Meet The Tech Monday featuring Sanita Ozolina…

MEET THE TECH MONDAY

Howdy lovelies…

It’s that time again for another dose of Meet The Tech. A fun feature where we make room on the virtual sofa for an aspiring or professional nail artist to tell us more about their experiences in the industry so far! This week we have the lovely Sanita Ozolina with us chatting about life as a nail tech, including sharing some pics to be proud of!

Don’t forget, if you’re a UK based Nail Tech (or training to become one) then *CLICK HERE* to get yourself over to the Nail Tech Chat & Support UK Facebook Group where you can meet oodles of new nail buddies, pick up a wealth of insider knowledge & chatter with a wide variety of like-minded techs – including some of the UK’s top educators too!

Anyway, that’s enough from me… are you sitting comfy? Then let’s get started…

.

What social media links can we find you on?

Facebook and linkedin

.

A huge thanks to the lovely Sanita for taking part in Meet The Tech Monday… be sure to pop by her social media pages to check out her fantastic work or why not take a moment to say a quick howdy in the comments below. As always, thanks for stopping by 🙂

Doing my Own Nails: Mint Green, Grey & Chrome…

If there’s one thing us nail techs quite often find a drag it’s doing our own nails… I guess it’s kind of like a gardener not being arsed enough to keep his own lawn manicured or a hair-dresser overlooking her mass of split ends. It takes multiple cups of tea and a firm talking to in order to get me at my nail desk for some TLC of my own… not to mention the task of doing the non-dominant hand too – arrrghh! Yet on the other hand (excuse the pun) I could sit and watch YouTube videos from my fav nail gurus for hours without a single grumble – if anything, there’s something slightly therapeutic about it.

So if you’ve got a few minutes to burn and fancy seeing how I tackle bringing my own pinkies to life then why not get yourself comfy & hit the play button… if you’re feeling super generous you might even want to subscribe to keep up with my latest uploads – which you can do by *Clicking Here*

Anyways, more from me when I’ve recovered from my dose of the winter lurgies…. yes, I’m huddled up drinking copious amount of Lucozade and munching my way through vitamins to lift the aches a little quicker with any luck.

Confessions 2016/2017 (tag)

confessions-tag

When I first started blogging (quite a few years ago) I remember the flood of tag’s that were always on the go. I adored reading them and getting to know my blog buddies through a wide range of fun questions… then somehow they disappeared into the virtual void & I rarely spotted them again – until now that is.

Needless to say the gorgeous Sarah from Sarah’s Cup Of Beauty, tagged me recently and so akin to my retro blogging ways I just had to roll up my sleeves and give it a go – particularly when as the word ‘Confession’ is involved 😉  Anyways, if you’ve a few minutes to spare or fancy giving this a go yourself then get comfy and keep reading…

.

Describe your 2016 in 3 words

Surprising, transformative, eventful

.

Write the name of 2 people that have characterised your 2016.

My husband, Steve. No matter what, he never fails to support whatever I do. Most definitely a huge part of the driving force behind my goals ❤

My daughter, Emma, who makes me feel so incredibly blessed to be a mama.

.

Write the most delicious food you’ve tasted in 2016

Hmmm, that’s a good question – honestly, I’d have to say smoked salted-chilli chicken with noodles. It’s amazing! Nom 🙂

.

Write the event which marked you most in 2016.

The decline of my health. When chronic illness hit me I felt utterly isolated in so many ways, particularly being so young. Thankfully keeping my focus on goals (that I can achieve) really has helped me to get through each day with an aim in mind.

.

Write the finest purchase you’ve made in 2016, and if you want link a photo.

My nail practice hand. Sounds utterly bizarre, but with so many new nail products on the market it gives me a chance to test them all out on something that is such a great help. Definitely a worth while investment for any nail tech J

.

Write 3 good intentions for 2017

1. Be as active as possible without letting chronic pain terrify me into exclusion.

2. Work on some really exciting projects.

3. Spend as much quality time with my family as possible – they come first and foremost!

.

Write 1 place you want to visit in 2017

Considering that I’m absolutely terrified of flying I won’t be going very far…. As much as I dream of visiting the United States one day, it feels like it may never happen – unless I manage to overcome my fears! For now, it might just be the local beach…. having said that it’s pretty darn beautiful so no major grumbles here. The weather could be a bit nicer for it though!

.

Write 1 plate of food you’d like to eat in 2017.

My Christmas dins – yep, sounds bizarre so early in the year but if I make it to Christmas and spend it with those that mean the most then I’m as happy as can be!

.

Here are the tag rules:

1. Mention the creator of the TAG.

2. Use the image that you find in this article.

naamloos.png

3. Mention the blogger who has chosen you.

4. Answer the questions.

5. Mention 9 bloggers/friends and let them know through a comment on their blog.

.

And the nominations are….

YOU!

Okay so I might be a bit of a rule breaker.. but without tagging a heap of my blog buddies I thought I’d leave this one open for the any of you lovely lot to attempt.

Feel free to use my main image (very top) or you can use the one above that has been supplied by the original poster.

Don’t forget to give me a mention so I can check out yours too, I’d love to read your answers!

A huge ‘thank you’ to the lovely Sarah over at Sarah’s Cup Of Beauty for nominating me… do pop over and say a huge hello, she’s super friendly!

Acrylic Unicorn Nail

Bonjour, Hello, Howdy, G’day…

How the devil are you lovely lot? I do apologise for the slight absence, as luck would have it I’ve been having a blooming headache of a time with my trusty laptop which seems to have all the symptoms of old age setting in *sigh* You know… slow to start, easily confuddled, muddling information, not remembering passwords, cripplingly slow – hmmm, actually it sounds scarily like me and I’m only 34… anyways…. I’ve spent the last few days cleaning the darn thing out before undertaking the monumental task of video editing; which is something I can only describe as wandering through an unchartered circle of hell when your laptop is as slow as mine. Needless to say after sprouting a few more grey hairs, shaking my fists vigorously in the air and clearing the kitchen of all other human life I emerged victorious! A video was born!

So this week I decided to attempt my own version of a unicorn nail… ‘A what?’ I hear you say… yes, a unicorn nail. Well, the unicorn’s horn, though mine started off looking more like a teeny Mr Whippy cone before somehow evolving into (what I can only describe) as a glitzy seashell. The thing is, the gorgeous Kirsty Meakin from Naio Nails, was the inspiration behind my attempt as her recent upload made the whole darn thing look so blooming easy. However, when you’re as awkward at acrylic nail art as I am, it simply shows what an utter dog’s dinner can be made compared to the seasoned pros. Okay, so it’s not the worst thing I’ve clamped my lamps on lately, but let’s just say 2017 is most certainly the year for me to get my practice hand out a little more than I have been. Hmm, maybe this is the beginnings of a little mini series… a first attempt kinda thing?! Something the world can chortle at as I try wholeheartedly to broaden my skill-set. Who knows.

Anyhoo if you’re waiting on the number 10 bus, sitting patiently in your local takeaway with a rumbling tummy or simply figuring out how else you can procrastinate for the next few minutes then why not press play. If you’re feeling really generous you can even *click here* to subscribe so you never miss out on any future snigger-inducing videos 😉

My New Life Book & Personal Organiser for 2017…

If there’s one thing I love when a new year roll’s in, is that with it, rolls shopping for a brand new diary… including an array of accessories: pens, dividers, post-it-notes etc. *happy sigh*

As I’ve stated MANY times before I’m a self-confessed stationery addict. There is (almost) nothing that fills me with more satisfaction that filling in a blank info page of a brand new personal organiser for the very 1st time. I even deliberate over the most ridiculous of details… what style of handwriting I should adopt, what colour ink, where I’ll be positioning my little sheet of mini post-its… the whole event in its entirety is a complete & utter joy AND this year it was even better as I finally got my hands on a planner I’d been lusting over for weeks on end. Is there ANYTHING as painful during a ‘no spend December’ than that horrid panic from wondering if your other half has managed to pick up on your sledgehammer hints and get their order in on time? All to avoid the utter catastrophe of seeing those dreaded 3 words: OUT OF STOCK *eeeeek* Painful huh?

However THIS year I succeeded in ‘taking control’ of the situation… long story short, the Personal Planner is now mine ‘Mwah ha ha’ *evil laugh* Unfortunately, the spend on a brand new Erin Condren was just out of the question. As utterly beautiful as her planners are, when I totted up the shipping etc it was just ridiculously expensive and couldn’t be justified. I’m not a spend-thrift but I know when silly-spending becomes apparent in the grand scheme of things.

So, after taking to the interwebs (for a good old personal organiser browse) my lamps finally caught sight of this little gem – it’s the Organised Mum Life Book. Now before you protest that you’re not a mama, calm your jets, as although they have a wonderful range of helpful planners for busy families, this one is personal! It’s one on one. Perfect.

dsc03772

So if you’re still on the lookout for a personal organiser that doesn’t cost the earth but has lots of helpful planning features then take a peek at this little beauty. However, be quick if you’re ordering as stocks are sold-out on Amazon and extremely limited on the OM website. I’ll link it below if you’re on the verge of treating yourself 😉

Hope you enjoy the video tour of my new Organised Mum Life Book – don’t forget you can *CLICK HERE* to subscribe to the Confetti & Curves YouTube channel so you don’t miss any future uploads!

Why It’s OKAY To Take A Blogging Break…

taking-a-blogging-break

A few months ago, the thought of taking a short break from blogging left me riddled with guilt. For over two years I’ve poured my heart and soul into rolling up my sleeves to scribe (what I hope are) engaging blog posts, edit creatively styled photographs & have spent countless hours banging an impatient fist on my desk at the painstaking task of video editing – trust me my poor hand has came off so much worse than my videos usually did *sigh*

However a few weeks ago I was faced with the dilemma of either taking a short-term blogging break or running myself into some sort form of breakdown… considering I’ve already more grey hairs than I can shake a Garnier bottle at I decided on an extended blog holiday instead! So I slipped myself into the background to get a whole host of things tied up, rearranged, planned and not to mention the ongoing health battles that are forever a pain in my existence. Little did I know I was slowly but surely burning myself out… in fact, it TOOK a blogging break for me to realise just how much I pressure I was putting on myself without even realising it.

As much as I initially wandered the floors with a cloud of guilt looming over my head, after a few days I loosened up and slowly began to busy myself with all the things that have been cluttering up my to do list. One thing I will say, is that although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my blogging break I have reeeeeally missed my online community of blog buddies. It’s great to be back but for anyone who’s currently mulling over the prospect of a blogging break here’s a few reasons why you shouldn’t hold back or let guilt deny you a virtual jolly hol…

.

1) Time to simmer your creative juices.

Regardless of how much of a super-human blogger you may seem, just like any mere mortal we’re not pre-programmed with an abundant flow of creativity. Writers block and running out of steam can end up making your blog lack it’s orignal sparkle. So if you feel you’re losing your mojo then it’s time to step away for the keyboard until you’re ready to bedazzle your audience once again!

.

2) Get some life order.

Like a bazillion other bloggers out there I can’t just spend my days glued to the laptop screen conjuring up my next batch of posts – as much as I’d want to of course! I’m a mum, a wife, I have family commitments, my health etc etc. We ALL have ‘stuff’ outside of the virtual realms – a vacay really helps to focus on getting that other ‘stuff’ done without the pangs of guilt from not hitting the ‘publish’ button. It also enabled ME to see the busiest external areas in my life and work my blogging around my other commitments.

.

3) Helps reassess your blog path.

Hmm, this sounds a little deep, however, it’s true. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really assessing where I want to go with my blog and what I want to do with it. Right now I’m in the throws of organising a mass of stuff for Liquid Glamour, planning for college refresher courses next year, as well as testing a variety of new products I’ve been sent. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE blogging but I feel it needs to reflect & tie in with exactly where I am in life at the moment. People change, evolve, move on etc. I adore Confetti & Curves dearly but my blogging break helped me consider important things like rebranding and how to move forward with content that’s a little more relevant to my present circumstances.

.

4) Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Just because you step away from your blog for a while doesn’t mean you stop thinking about it all together, in fact, for me, it had the completely opposite effect. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to wondering if indeed it was getting any views, comments or if it had just disappeared into the blogosphere with a stat count emptier that a chocolate advent calendar on boxing day. I’ve built such great friendships throughout my blogging journey – it’s amazing just how much you miss the community and what a great feel it is stepping back into the arena from a short break. There’s nothing that warms the heart more that the ‘Welcome Back!!’ messages when logging on for a chat – it’s food for the soul!

.

5) YOU time.

It’s so easy to forget the one thing that makes a blog the thriving little corner of the internet that it is – YOU. You take a break from school, work and even just a holiday from life in general so why not the same for your blog? Blogging can be bizarrely addictive but if we’re not careful it’s easy to get sucked into a routine of churning out post-after-post. A break from blogging & social media can be just as refreshing as a holiday itself and can really help you evaluate if the amount of effort you’re pouring into your blog works with your lifestyle. Thankfully for me, blogging is simply a hobby – it’s not a means of income or a full time job. However, IF that was the case my uniform would probably be a pair of pj’s and slipper socks… now there’s a life goal to aim for hehe 😉

blogging-break-1

Have you thought about taking a blogging break? Maybe it’s something you’ve done in the past? Are you a blogger that often feels guilty about taking time away from your blog? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below.

Ps: Oh and one last thing – GEE I’VE MISSED YOU GUYS!!! 😀

See You Soon…

see-you-soon

The time has come. Just one more sleep…

Only one more night of shut eye before we set sail for England (Birkenhead to be exact) and road trip ourselves down to South Wales. Our bags are packed, we’re ready to go. The final wedding of 2016 draws oh-so-near as my gorgeous step-daughter Hayley prepares for her trip down the aisle. I can’t believe the little girl I first met back in the summer of 2004 is now all grown up and getting ready to marry the groom of her dreams! It’s her fairytale day – and my does she deserve it!!

hg

(Hayley on her bridal shower)

Hayley (and Jessica – my eldest step-daughter) lost their mum, Sian, to breast cancer just a few years before I met their dad; my hubby Steve. It’s almost impossible for me to fathom just how raw it must feel when you’re a little girl, losing one of the most important and cherished people in your life. But they have coped astoundingly well, in fact, they’re two of the bravest girls I know. They’re also two of the most accepting and beautifully natured in their own extra special ways, and I’m beyond blessed to have been so warmly welcomed into the family all those years ago.

bcr

Of course, the little thread that bound us even closer together was the arrival of my daughter Emma – their little sis. Em’s hasn’t slept a wink these past few nights with excitement for the trip… and the all important task of being one of her big sister’s bridesmaids! Seeing my three girls together again will be incredible. I’m not even going to speculate the sheer amount of emotional selfies I’ll return home with ❤

hje

(My 3 gorgeous girls… Jessica, Emma & Hayley)

So to keep today’s post short & sweet, it’s just to say I’ll be taking this week to spend time with my girls, catch up with family I haven’t seen in years, help with wedding planning and of course celebrate with the occasional strawberry daiquiri… you should all know by how vulnerable my weakness for vibrant coloured cocktails is!

pink heart

Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead, whatever you’re up to – I’ll be back early next week to resume normal blogging service!

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

You know that scene from Alice In Wonderland when the March Hare scurries past Alice exclaiming “I’m late, I’M LATE!”? Well, that pretty much sums up how my week has been… scurrying around exclaiming I’m late – though when I say ‘scurrying’ I actually mean hobbling *rolls eyes* There’s been so much to do and so little time. Between preparing for our trip to Wales as well as Em’s 1st Transfer Test… there hasn’t been a free moment to catch my breath this week.

Thankfully the first of the 3 transfer tests went without a glitch. It seems such a horrid process for any little primary 7 student to go through as the workload has been utterly gruelling. Seeing her and countless other primary school children flood through the gates of the local grammar school on Saturday morning was heart wrenching. So many anxious little faces and equally anxious parents. There hasn’t been any of this process I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed. Worse still, after her last test in December there’s the waiting game for the results in January, followed by more waiting (well into 2017) to find out what secondary school each child has been accepted into. Such a dragged out process for everyone.

At last we have our trip to Wales to look forward to this week – a break from exams and all the other pressures will do us all the world of good I’m sure. As I’m away, there’ll be a small Blog & YouTube vacation as I very much doubt I’ll get the time or energy with the wedding schedule and family catch ups arranged. However, I do promise I’ve a few super exciting posts lined up over the weeks after I return so I’ll certainly be making up for it!

As for this week’s shenanigans, if you’re in the mood for a glance over what’s been happening on Confetti & Curves lately then why not take a peek at the snippets below. As always, you’re more than welcome to leave a link to any blog posts you’d like me to check out too!

How To Promote Your Nail & Beauty Business On A Budget

how-to-promote-your-nail-and-beauty-business-on-a-budget-1

Did I mention I’m obsessed with marketing? Actually, it’s one of the business topics I’ve always thrived in! On Wednesday’s chatter, I discussed a few useful hints and tips on how to get the clientele for beauty business rolling in, particularly if you’re on a budget. Definitely worth a watch if you’re self-employed or freelancing in the beauty industry!

How To Promote Your Nail & Beauty Business On A Budget…

Be prepared, be very prepared… as today’s chatter is one heck of a verbal marathon gals! How I managed to whittle on for that length of time without stopping for water (or air seemingly) is beyond me, HOWEVER, it may be a really useful chatter for many budding beauty enthusiasts out there, as well as being one that’s close to my heart…

So many of us, every day, make the brave decision to go self-employed. It’s an exciting aspect, but it’s also one that fills many of us with dreaded thoughts such as… What if I don’t get enough customers? What if I don’t make enough money? What if it fails? Usually, a lot of these fears are united around one aspect – advertising to ensure enough people know your business exists. But how do you do that when you’ve already emptied your pockets on making ends meet, stock & paying general bills etc. It’s tough, really tough.

Over this past year, I’ve spent quite a lot of time on Facebook interacting with others in both nail tech and beauty groups. For many that either dream of freelancing, are in the process of setting up or are struggling to fill their appointment book it can be a stressful and frustrating process. But what if you don’t have to spend the earth letting people know you exist? Cue today’s upload of useful promotional tips…

Okay, so I may not have a masters degree in marketing or business studies, but what I do have has certainly been worth its weight in gold for me – hands on experience. Heck, I’ve made mistakes, BIG mistakes – but each time it was part of a learning curve. Get your fingers burnt once and chances are you’re not going to be stupid enough to repeat the process. However, it does make celebrating the successes even more meaningful!

So in a nutshell, if you have a dream to be your own boss and fear is holding you back, stop and evaluate exactly why. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your goals, and furthermore never give up on them. For those that are embarking on their journey in the beauty industry, in whatever role that may be, I really hope you find this video useful in helping to inspire you to promote your business without having to spend a fortune – which may make reaching your goal seem that little bit more achievable. Who knows 😉

Once again guys, a huge THANK YOU for helping me reach my YouTube goal of reaching 1000 subscribers! Wow, I still can’t quite believe it! And if you haven’t done so already, why not *CLICK HERE* to pop by and subscribe too – you’d certainly make my day!

1000 YouTube Subscribers… THANK YOU!!!

fireworks-1a

SO, I’m casually browsing around the interwebs this morning and to my shock and surprise discover that 1000 of you fabulous folk have subscribed to my little corner of YouTube! Naturally, such a revelation caused for celebrating with a mars bar square and cup of tea… aren’t I just the modern day party animal!!

So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! All those that have taken the time to stop by my channel, watch a video, leave a comment, hit the like button and of course (the golden ticket) subscribe. Like most YouTubers, taking the plunge to launch a channel wasn’t an easy step – my nerves were as solid as grated cheese as beads of sweat lashed from my forehead at the mere thought of a nasty comment (I’ve had a few but life goes on)… isn’t the block button a wonderful invention chums?! 😉

Thinking back to my very first video I almost cringe at how horrendously nervous I was. Revealing my blog to friends and family was one thing, but actually putting myself out there on YouTube was something else as a whole new world of realisation dawned… it isn’t like taking a selfie; you can’t sit still and hope for the best angle… everything is on show! Looks, personality, surroundings. Not that I’m in any way ashamed of myself, how I act or the home I live in – but there’s always that looming fear that some nasty critter stumbles across your channel and leaves a horrid comment that will make you hibernate below a duvet for months on end, pondering how on earth to rectify a smashed confidence. Thankfully that hasn’t been the case. If anything I’m more confident now than I’ve ever been about myself… at the end of the day, I’m a mere mortal, just like everyone else. I’ve good days/bad days/crappier than crap days but also days that I’m unbelievably thankful for what I’ve achieved in building my self-belief. Isn’t it amazing the influence a bunch of people who you’ve never met (and scattered all over the world) can make in building such positivity in your life?! Every time I’ve reached a blogging or YouTube goal it’s because of the support of others (aka YOU guys) and that’s something I’m incredibly grateful for.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m under no illusion that 1000 subscribers is a mere spec of dust on the moon compared to other channels – but for me, it’s a HUGE milestone. So once again THANK YOU blog buddies – for being not only the biggest part of my blogging journey but also my YouTube one too!
