Confessions 2016/2017 (tag)

confessions-tag

When I first started blogging (quite a few years ago) I remember the flood of tag’s that were always on the go. I adored reading them and getting to know my blog buddies through a wide range of fun questions… then somehow they disappeared into the virtual void & I rarely spotted them again – until now that is.

Needless to say the gorgeous Sarah from Sarah’s Cup Of Beauty, tagged me recently and so akin to my retro blogging ways I just had to roll up my sleeves and give it a go – particularly when as the word ‘Confession’ is involved 😉  Anyways, if you’ve a few minutes to spare or fancy giving this a go yourself then get comfy and keep reading…

.

Describe your 2016 in 3 words

Surprising, transformative, eventful

.

Write the name of 2 people that have characterised your 2016.

My husband, Steve. No matter what, he never fails to support whatever I do. Most definitely a huge part of the driving force behind my goals ❀

My daughter, Emma, who makes me feel so incredibly blessed to be a mama.

.

Write the most delicious food you’ve tasted in 2016

Hmmm, that’s a good question – honestly, I’d have to say smoked salted-chilli chicken with noodles. It’s amazing! Nom 🙂

.

Write the event which marked you most in 2016.

The decline of my health. When chronic illness hit me I felt utterly isolated in so many ways, particularly being so young. Thankfully keeping my focus on goals (that I can achieve) really has helped me to get through each day with an aim in mind.

.

Write the finest purchase you’ve made in 2016, and if you want link a photo.

My nail practice hand. Sounds utterly bizarre, but with so many new nail products on the market it gives me a chance to test them all out on something that is such a great help. Definitely a worth while investment for any nail tech J

.

Write 3 good intentions for 2017

1. Be as active as possible without letting chronic pain terrify me into exclusion.

2. Work on some really exciting projects.

3. Spend as much quality time with my family as possible – they come first and foremost!

.

Write 1 place you want to visit in 2017

Considering that I’m absolutely terrified of flying I won’t be going very far
. As much as I dream of visiting the United States one day, it feels like it may never happen – unless I manage to overcome my fears! For now, it might just be the local beach
. having said that it’s pretty darn beautiful so no major grumbles here. The weather could be a bit nicer for it though!

.

Write 1 plate of food you’d like to eat in 2017.

My Christmas dins – yep, sounds bizarre so early in the year but if I make it to Christmas and spend it with those that mean the most then I’m as happy as can be!

.

Here are the tag rules:

1. Mention the creator of the TAG.

2. Use the image that you find in this article.

naamloos.png

3. Mention the blogger who has chosen you.

4. Answer the questions.

5. Mention 9 bloggers/friends and let them know through a comment on their blog.

.

And the nominations are
.

YOU!

Okay so I might be a bit of a rule breaker.. but without tagging a heap of my blog buddies I thought I’d leave this one open for the any of you lovely lot to attempt.

Feel free to use my main image (very top) or you can use the one above that has been supplied by the original poster.

Don’t forget to give me a mention so I can check out yours too, I’d love to read your answers!

A huge ‘thank you’ to the lovely Sarah over at Sarah’s Cup Of Beauty for nominating me… do pop over and say a huge hello, she’s super friendly!

pink heart

As always, whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below, so do stop by and say a quick howdy 🙂

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fitness, fashion, food, fun
 and positivity!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started my first blog about 25 goals I wanted to accomplish by the time I was 25 years old.  Once that was completed, I wanted to keep going!  It became my creative outlet and I thrived on the positive community.  Here I am, still going strong several years later!

.

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

I was looking for something that encompassed a life of balance.  Yes, I work out, but I also love sweets.  And thus
 Semi-Sweet Tooth!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Of course!  But I have my handy notebook that I bring with me almost everywhere and write down post ideas regularly.  Inspiration is everywhere!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh goodness, this is a tough one!  Two actually come to mind:

The Proposal: Because it was about such a huge, life-changing day.

6 30 15_1

An Ode to Girlfriends: In life, my girlfriends mean the world to me and keep me sane. This was the best way I could think of to say thank you. 🙂

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I go for classic and traditional everyday style.  If it gives any hints, my recent style icons are Joanna Gaines, Ashley Olsen, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Arbonne Mascara, Chantecaille Highlighter, and, recently, hair milk.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A glass of Red and a great book or favourite show.  (For those in America, “New Girl,” “Modern Family,” & “Fixer Upper.”)

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

After a great morning workout and healthy brunch with the girls, I’d have a steak dinner and glass of red with my fiancĂ©e and get early to bed.  Spending the day laughing and smiling with my friends and family sounds perfect to me!

.

What do you do to relax?

A great workout typically gets the job done, but if I really need to relax after a tough day, I go with yoga, meditation, or some time with my Bible.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Ugh
biting my nails and cuticles.  The worst.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, although I’ve used a steady mix of Math and English ever since that elementary school.

.

What’s your dream job?

When I was little, it was to be a rock star.  So why not?  I want to be a rock star!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list? Living big

Visit every continent

Become a published author

Be a parent to happy, loving children

Have a bit part in a major motion picture (no speaking lines necessary)

Be President of the United States (told you
 living big)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Growing into my own and becoming my own person has been quite the achievement, although that’s an ongoing process.

What would technically be my largest achievements would be graduating from college, competing on Team U.S.A. for ice skating (we won!), or starting my own brand and business with Semi-Sweet Tooth.

.

Who inspires you?

Several people, but primarily my parents.  They’re both incredibly different, one entirely left brain and one entirely right.  Both have inspired me in different ways and they’ve made me more confident and optimistic than many in the world.  They inspire me to achieve and follow my intuition every day.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Why settle for a spark when you can light a fire instead.”

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just start writing and write consistently.  Be open to the possibilities and see where it takes you!

Behind The Blog featuring Deborah Bazeley…

Deborah Bazeley Wanderlust

Hey Blog Buddies,

Before we jump right into today’s exciting addition, I’d like to thank y’all soooo much for your lovely comments on yesterdays post the Spring Inspired Makeup Menu featuring Max Factor. I’m chuffed you guys enjoyed the finished look, your comments we’re indeed a treat to read! Also, quite a few of you seem just as impressed with the gorgeous Excess Shimmer shadow as what I am! It really is just as stunning up close & personal ❀

Talking of up close & personal, I have a incredibly inspiring gal gracing the virtual sofa today as the gorgeous Deborah Bazeley stops by for a quick chatter on her blossoming lifestyle blog: Deboarh Bazeley Wanderlust. As much as I adore my daily news feed sprinkled with beauty related news & reviews, I’m also a great fan of travelling, lifestyle & heaps of encouragement when it comes to *trying* to be a little more health conscious… heaven knows I need all the inspiration I can get from the aftermath of the Easter weekend *hides a multitude of chocolate egg wrappings*

So if all this sounds like something you’d love to check out too then get yourself over to Deborah’s blog – word of warning though, you may end up getting slightly addicted as it’s packed full of a multitude of fun features: procrastinators beware! 😀

Deborah Bazeley

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Backpacking, healthy living, fitness + humour

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I discovered blogging back in 2011 when I was in my final year of university. I attempted to write a number of blogs ranging from a cringey anonymous relationship blog (less Carrie Bradshaw and more Bridget Jones) to an incredibly embarrassing politics blog (I was studying Political Science at the time). The idea of having a free platform on which to voice your opinions and be published was almost unheard of back then, and I jumped at the opportunity.

However, my travel and lifestyle blog (and the one that you see today) began when I merely wanted to document my solo backpacking adventure through South America, USA, Fiji and New Zealand for my friends and family. I wrote purely for fun and from the heart, and it was the first and only blog of mine to receive a decent amount of hits and followers. From there, I started writing stories and discussing lifestyle and fitness, and I’ve never left it since no matter where I have been in the world!

 .

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

Deborah Bazeley (‘Bazeley’ is pronounced ‘Baze-ley’, like ‘paisley’) is my full name and super easy to find on Google. I also wanted my name to be the primary focus so that if my travels ever stopped or if I wanted to talk about topics beyond backpacking, my blog could expand.

Wanderlust is the irresistible urge to travel, but I also see it as the urge to explore life itself. My blog is about exploring the world with our minds and bodies, as well as our passports. That’s why you will find everything from fitness posts, to solo female travel advice and reviews, to creative writing pieces.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! At those times there are a few things I do. The first is that I go for a walk as this is when all of my best ideas come to me. Secondly, I read other blogs and scour Pinterest for ideas. Thirdly, I ask myself “What information would you have found useful when
[travelling, writing, getting into the gym, etc]?”. (This was how I came up with my First Time Backpacker Series.) Fourthly, and finally, I write any old thing down and tell myself that it will be good enough – blogger’s block often comes when we’re determined to be the best, or when we start comparing our blog to other people’s. Some of my most popular posts are the ones that I thought to be my worst! Write it, edit it, add a picture and tell yourself, “It is good enough.”

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I would say my first post because it’s where I began, but my absolute favourite was my “Bridget Jones in Ilha Grande” post. It’s written in the style of the Bridget Jones’ Diary series, but it is actually what happened to me on a beautiful island off the coast of Brazil. The horny couple, the storm and the food ordering debacle are all real!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Jeans/leggings, loose t-shirt, check shirt over the top + Converse (or boots in winter). Easy, comfortable and simple.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Rimmel’s Radiance BB cream – it’s light and yet offers pretty good coverage, and it’s hands down my favourite BB cream that I’ve tried so far.

Coconut oil in my hair – I have so many hair masks, but nothing softens my hair like coating it in coconut oil overnight and washing it off in the morning.

Radiant overnight mask (skin phase 2)

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I have the same routine every evening: Turn on my fairy lights and light the candle by my bed. Write in my journal (I’ve kept a diary since I was 10). Write down five things that I am grateful for, as well as the happiest moment of that day. Then I curl up in my bed with my colouring book and my two ragdoll cats (called Merry and Pippin), and watch some Netflix.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Netflix, cuddles with my cats, a good hearty meal, and either my friends, family or boyfriend. I haven’t been particularly interested in going out or partying for more than a year now!

.

What do you do to relax?

If I’m really wound up and have a tension headache, I do a four minute meditation and stretch out like I used to in ballet class. Otherwise I go for a refreshing walk/run or I lift some weights in the gym.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails, and I let anxious thoughts run the show a lot of the time.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I don’t have a specific one, but my parents, brother and I would all go for either a hike or a bike ride every weekend. We didn’t have proper gear or fancy bikes as we didn’t have much money, but all of my best childhood memories come from those trips. Plus, I have never felt fitter or more alive as I did back then!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, though I equally loved Politics when I reached A-levels.

 .

What’s your dream job?

Full time cat nanny, but I will settle for working in marketing!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working in marketing, writing and blogging, living with cats (and hopefully my boyfriend!), and exploring the world.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Learn French and practice my skills in France, volunteer for a cause I believe in, travel South East Asia, write a novel, and go on safari somewhere in Africa.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Travelling by myself around the world. I started in Brazil and I was utterly terrified as I suffered with General Anxiety Disorder, but I faced my fears and did it anyway.

.

Who inspires you?

Elizabeth Gilbert – I am such a walking clichĂ© with my adoration of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, but I bloody love both her writing style and her worth ethic.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it.

I used to get so worried about what people would think of my writing (“What if they hate it?” or “What if I write something that I would be embarrassed of in the future?” or “What if no one reads it at all?”), but after a few posts I realised that when you first start out, the only people who will really read your blog are your friends and family (ie. the people who support you the most). This makes it a hell of a lot less scary and takes the pressure off when you first start posting content! See it simply as a chance to practice your writing skills (try to keep all posts to around 1000 words) and share your thoughts.

When you feel ready, get on social media and seek out similar blogs and new blogger friends, and get sharing and posting. Networking and supporting others is the only way that your blog will grow – take an interest in the community, and it will welcome you back.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Tea

Coke or Pepsi = Coke

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Somewhere in the middle, but closer to the organised side of things

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = KITTEN

Night In or Night Out = Night in (I’m an old cat lady these days)

Heels or Flats = Flats

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = Lip Stick (or a lip butter)

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Pop Princess

Paperback or E-book = Paperback (the majority of the weight in my travel backpack was taken up by my many paper journals and novels
I probably should invest in a Kindle but I just love an actual book!)

Behind The Bog featuring Sprinkle of Surprise…

Sprinkle of Surprise

Hey Beauty Buddies…

I’m curled up in my fluffiest pj’s listening to the wind howling outside whilst the rain batters noisily against the window. As much as this weather often gives us something to grumble over, it’s moments like this I’m super grateful to be perched all nice & cosy inside my dry little home. It’s most definitely book, tea & ‘toasting the toosies in front of a glowing fire’ weather! However the more time I spend happily couped up inside, the more eager I become to start making changes by toying with the idea of reshuffling furniture to create a fresh look for the new year. Does anyone else feels like the new year encourages us to rejuvenate our little nests?

Talking of fresh starts, I’m super excited to introduce y’all to today’s awesome blogger who happens to be doing a little renovating and refreshing of her own: it’s the lovely Sprinkle of Surprise! Being an avid blogger with a passion for all things beauty & lifestyle, Sprinkle has made it her goal to re-design her virtual haven this year; which I have to say is already absolutely gorgeous with the launch of her stunning new logo & look! Check it out for yourself chums, and don’t forget to pop by her Instagram where she also keeps us posted on her plans to continue revamping, along with a wealth of incredibly pretty pictures to feast your eyes upon!

You know the drill by now: grab your cuppa & nestle into your comfiest chair for 5 minutes as we take a peek Behind The blog…

.

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:
Fun, style, fashion, food, beauty!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve always had a passion for writing, since I was in middle school. I began to write a lot of poetry and creative pieces for fun, but as I grew older and life got busier, it became harder to keep up with writing. I came across many fun blog sites in the past year, and realized how it would be a perfect avenue to begin my writing again! So I decided to start my blog and I’m so glad I did! It’s allowing me to channel my inner creativity on topics that are relatable to me.

 .

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

I had no idea what to name my blog when I started! The only thing I knew was that I wanted it to start or contain the word ‘surprise’ in it! This was because I wanted people to remember the word when they came to my blog, and incorporating this word would have my audience guessing what my blog is all about, and once they’d read the content, they would discover the ‘surprise’.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! To overcome this, I’m going to find time to browse the internet, websites, blogs and whatever is trending these days, to find some inspiration and pull some ideas together from that. Hopefully I’ll get rid of this bloggers block really quick!

.

What’s your favourite post to date? *please include link*

There are quite a few I like! I like a lot of my OOTD/OOTN posts, but if I had to pick, here’s what I narrowed it down to:
Makeup Addiction: https://sprinkleofsurprise.wordpress.com/2015/05/08/makeup-addiction/

Change & New Beginnings: https://sprinkleofsurprise.wordpress.com/2015/08/21/change-new-beginnings/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Simple, sophisticated, comfortable. I believe that the most important thing about dressing up/styling, is comfort. You want to make sure you feel good in the clothes you are wearing. Likewise, dressing for the occasion is also important. On a daily basis, I have to dress business casually/professionally, so my style is simple blouses, tops, pants and blazers, but by incorporating colors and trending styles, I’m able to pull off a well put together look.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My NYX eyeliner
Nars Creamy concealer
Lorac Pro palette

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to either take a nap, or grab a good book and delve into it and forget everything going on around me!

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

That’s a hard one. It really depends on my mood! Sometimes I’d like to go out for dinner with friends and/or family, otherwise I’d like to kick it back at home, with a movie and some chips and relax.

.

What do you do to relax?

I will either read, sleep, watch tv, or eat! Best ways to chill and relax!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Overthinking and over worrying about things.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

So many! My whole childhood was pretty good! I guess I’d have to say, playing in our old plastic play house with my sisters, and when I used to pretend to be the leader/teacher and boss my sisters around lol.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I enjoyed math & history the most. I had some really good math teachers, who taught me the subject well, and I love solving for 1 simple solution, so math was always a favorite. History was as well, I enjoyed especially learning about the government and politics.

.

What’s your dream job?

That’s another tough one! I really like what I’m currently doing, but I think I can achieve more and more in life. But I’d love to work in the fashion/merchandising industry maybe someday, or be a professor in a college.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope to be blogging still, and growing my reach out here. I also hope I’m moving upwards and forwards in my career professionally, and academically achieving my master’s degree. Hopefully I’ll also be happily married by that point with a place of my own!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Travelling to Europe
Skydiving
Going to more professional sporting events
Taking a trip anywhere with just my friends

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Probably graduating with my degree!

.

Who inspires you?

My parents! Where would I be without them? They’ve been through everything with me, and no matter how much I may be annoyed with them, they still are my backbone and strength in this world to achieve all I ever dream of.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

‘Verily, with difficulty, there is ease’
This quote/verse has gotten me through a really rough part of my life almost a year and half-two years ago, and it’s something I remember to live by when life gets hard.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Be yourself! Know what you want to talk about/believe in everything you post about! Network!

Behind The Blog featuring Oana from Not Just Makeup…

Not Just Make Up

Top O The Morning Chums…

Firstly a huuuuge thanks to all who stopped by yesterday’s post ‘When To Trash Your Stash‘… as much as I hate being the bearer of bad news when it comes to parting with your favourite nostalgic lippy it’s equally as important we realise the pesky hidden dangers that can lurk in the depths of our make up bags… that could end up corroding our complexions with a cocktail of nasties *eurgggh* However it’s been great reading your comments & tweets about the subject, I’m glad I’m not the only one guilty of hoarding beauty goodies a little longer than recommended *ahh hmm*

However onto today’s fun filled blog post as I have yet another cosmetic craving blogger to introduce y’all too as the lovely Oana from Not Just Make Up joins me on the virtual sofa for a behind the scenes chatter of her blossoming beauty & lifestyle blog  – pretty much as the name suggests!

So grab yourself a huge big mug of hot choccie & nestle down in your comfiest chair for another peek Behind The Blog

 Olana

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Makeup, books, passion, easy read, quality.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I wanted to share my love for makeup and beauty (first of all), books, cooking and any other things I’m passionate for.

 .

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

I didn’t want a name that restricted me to write just about a certain area, so I came up with Not just makeup, that implies that I’ll write a lot about makeup/skincare, but I’ll also feel like sharing some trips or some good books with my readers.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Even though I only have this blog for only 5 months, I also “suffer” from Blogger’s Block from time to time, especially because I want to keep my schedule and post every Tuesday. To overcome it I try as best as I can to write down all my ideas in advance so when I can’t find anything good for a certain week, I’ll just read through them. Also if I have a really great idea and I’m in the mood to write some articles, I’ll do it then and keep it for “rainy days”.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Summer evening makeup look using Sephora Kit – https://goo.gl/9NOo6l.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Casual, comfortable and a hint of sexy.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Apivita Tonic Lotion for Normal/Dry Skin,

Liquid lipstick Rouge Edition Velvet from Bourjois in 07 Nude-ist

and of course my LORAC Pro Palette.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Depends, either I’m staying in, drinking a glass of wine and watching funny, mindless TV series with my boyfriend or we’ll go out and meet with some friends.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

If it’s summer, I’d like to go really late, when it’s less hot outside, for a long walk and then stop somewhere to drink lemonade.

If it’s winter, I’ll probably be too lazy to want to go out. Maybe a cup of a warm beverage and a good book should do the trick.

.

What do you do to relax?

Like I said before: mindless TV series, some alcoholic beverage or a book. I also like to do my nails when I’m in the mood.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Binge eating when I watch something.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Hmm… I don’t know. They’re many. I like a lot all of my birthdays. They were all so different and I can remember well almost all of them.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Physics and Inorganic Chemistry.

.

What’s your dream job?

Some job where I do want I like, where my results are significant for the people I work with and I wake up most of the time looking forward for the rest of the day.

I know that no job it’s perfect but there have been periods of time in my life where I felt I had my dream job.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Living in Germany with my boyfriend, “having my dream job” and visiting different places every time we got the chance.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I never thought about this subject and honestly I have no idea. I think I just want to be happy and surrounded by the people I love. (I know… cheesu)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I don’t know. Probably having a good and stable income.

.

Who inspires you?

Everyone who works hard and knows what he/she wants.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Do it for you, not for the money or “fame”.

Don’t compare yourself to others.

Make a schedule and try you best to keep it.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Coke or Pepsi = Coke

Planning The Perfect Girls Night Out…

Planning A Girls Night Out

Tis the season… to stumble home at 1 am with blisters on your feet from dancing the night away, draped in tacky tinsel and wearing a giant pair of flashing antlers. Sound familiar? Oh yes, the festivities have indeed arrived which can only mean it’s time to don your sparkliest of outfits & unleash your inner diva for a night on the town.

So whether it’s the cheesy office Christmas bash or a night out celebrating the jolly hols with your closest gal pals, I’ve whipped up a nifty little run through of a few of my night-out essentials to ensure you haven’t missed a trick this party season…

Party1

Christmas Attire

1. What an eyecatcher
this stunning black & gold bodycon dress by Little Mistress has the best of both world. A simplistic LBD coupled with a glamorous gold appliquĂ© and mesh neckline! Available up to size 26 from EVANS – ÂŁ68.

2. When I spotted this sassy little clutch bag from Accessorize for £29 I knew it would have to go on my Christmas party attire menu. I’m in love with the coloured bands – undoubtedly a wardrobe staple that could compliment almost any party outfit, any season! I love it *swoooon*

3. Baby it’s cold outside
so get your sparkly New Look gold boot shoes on. Warm, sassy & full of festive cheer, at £24.99 these pocket friendly little beauties could be yours to dance the night away in this Christmas & New Year. Aren’t they amazing?

4. Considering the neckline is strikingly detailed I opted for these Champagne crystal drop earrings from Mikey London as an ever so elegant finishing touch. Better still they were retailing for ÂŁ21 but are now reduced to mere ÂŁ14 from Debenhams!!

5. Retailing at £14.99 this beautiful light gold paisley pashmina from Scarf Room is the perfect accessory for dressing up my black woollen winter jacket when braving the cold winter air. Isn’t it glorious? I’m in love!

.

Party2

The Make Up Menu Feeling Festive

Of course every night out on the town requires a sprinking of super-glam make-up! In Mondays post I recreated my favourite make-up menu of the season by opting for glitzy gold’s and a classic red lip courtesy of MAC’s iconic Ruby Woo. If you fancy checking it out for yourself just *click here* to visit the blog post or alternatively you can watch all the action by feasting your eyes upon my video tutorial by *clicking here*

.

Party3

dinner

This time of year restaurants are often alive with corporate parties & family get-togethers, so even though your favourite little haunt may seem like a pretty safe choice it’s best to call and pre-book well before your big night out… simply to avoid a two hour wait in a chilly winter queue just to get your bum on a seat.

As most work parties tend to book hotels and traditional restaurants for their Christmas dins, it could be a good idea to branch out and try Cantonese, Indian or Italian food as there’s less chance they’ll be hiving with half drunken CEO’s… and of course so you don’t end up tired of Turkey before Santa’s even had a chance to pack his sleigh! Alternatively, if you’re keeping a watchful eye on the purse strings why not opt for dinner at home or a cheeky take away delivered to your door before hitting the town; this is always a good option for those who take multiple hours to get ready! *whistles innocently*

.

Party4

ladies drinks

If like me you’re a hopeless case for a hangover, my advice would be to line that tummy with dinner before popping your corks so there’s something to help soak up the potential effects. Without sounding like an ageing party-pooper;  mixing a multitude of shots may seem like a barrel of fun, but keep in mind it’s more than likely going to end in a rather painful duvet-day the following morning. Who hasn’t seen the Sunday social media news-feeds filled with tales of woe and promises of never to so much as sniff a cork again?! My point exactly 😉

If you’re on the look out for something light and refreshing I’d personally suggest sticking to yummy little fruity spritzer style drinks. Just remember to enjoy it responsibly!

.

Party5

ent

Organising a night out takes a fair amount of planning – especially if there’s quite a few of you in tow. As much as I love dancing the night away, sometimes it’s fun to do something a little different; and come the festive season there’s just so much choice on offer. A few unique and fun ideas could be to catch a theatre show or musical, better still why not embrace your inner kiddie and opt for a pantomime instead? They’re full of cheesy Christmas cheer to get the giggles going, leaving the serious chatter for cocktails and dinner at a swanky venue afterwards. Alternatively if you’re feeling brave enough to embrace the cold winter weather then why not opt for some late night shopping at a local Christmas market? It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up some really unique little gifts and stocking fillers!

.

Party6

It’s one of the busiest seasons of the year, so if transport is top of your priority list make sure you book your taxi’s well in advance to avoid being stranded at your door step. Same applies for eating out too! Do keep a tight hold of your hand bag or purse wherever you go
a bustling night on the town is a pick-pockets dream particularly if you’re planning some late night shopping or Christmas fairs with chums. Try to carry as little cash as possible, make sure your abode is well secured before leaving for the evening & keep any pricey items such as laptops etc tucked well out of sight! Of course last but not least have fun, enjoy your night out & don’t forget the reason for the season guys 😉

pink heart

Do you have any up-coming fun nights out planned? What’s your top tip when organising an evening out on the town with friends? Or are you more of a cosy night-in kinda gal? As always I love reading your thoughts and feedback in the comments below

Cheerio chums!

Behind The Blog featuring Thistles and Whistles…

Thistles And Whistles

Ho Ho Ho….

The official count down to the big day has begun *excited air punch* have you’s all sent your letters off to Santa Claus yet? Or like me, is your list still continuously growing? Thankfully I’ve his email address so he’s used with getting a few new shopping links every couple of days… all thanks to my WordPress news feed of course 😉

Talking of which… some of you may not already know but although Confetti & Curves celebrated it’s 1st birthday back in October I’ve actually been blogging long before that, in fact I’ve had two previous blogs. Unfortunately I fell out of love with both of them. Oddly enough much as I adore the topic of ‘books & writing’ blogging about it is an entirely different ball game… just because you love something doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be any good at blogging about it – as I quickly came to realise! However although I don’t continue to blog about books or the process of writing them, that doesn’t mean to say it stops me from enjoying keeping up with those who do. So today I’d like to introduce y’all to the talented gal behind the beautiful Thistles & Whistles.

Although she’d prefer to remain anonymous, don’t be mislead into thinking her fantastic book & inspirational lifestyle blog doesn’t contain any personality. In fact it’s sprinkled with character & dusted with charm. So why not step out and add a little something different to your news feed, if anything Thistle’s & Whistles will certainly inspire you to curl up on your comfiest chair with a great read – and what could be better on these chilly winter evenings?

Thistles And Whistles Screen Shot

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Bookish conversations and finding inspiration.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I was a huge food blog reader many years ago; I would constantly look at recipes and read the personal stories attached to each recipe created. It was so inspiring to see how brave those bloggers were to put bits and pieces of their personal lives out there. Finally, about 3 years ago, I decided to take the plunge when I started my first blog on Blogspot which I then abandoned after 3 posts. A year later after that failure, Thistles and Whistles was born.

.

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

Funny story. Two years ago, when I was doing my Masters in Media and Communication, we were required to start our own blogs to practice writing. Since my first blog was already on Blogspot, I thought I would revive that and use it but our teacher insisted we all use WordPress. Everyone signed up with their own names and I was the only one who refused to do so because I wanted to maintain my privacy. However, no names were coming to me and since this was a class assignment and time was running out, I was panicking and a bit desperate. And then Eureka! I don’t know how but the name Thistles and Whistles just randomly popped into my head. I had never heard of it before, I didn’t know what it meant, it just came to me and it felt right somehow. And I decided to go with it.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

All the time. I mean literally all the time. I have these huge slumps where I don’t want to even look at my blog anymore but after weeks (or sometimes months!), I’ll remind myself that I am the happiest when I write and that if I don’t go through with this, I’ll always regret giving up too soon. Reminding myself why I started it in the first place always helps me get back on the horse. And reading other blogger posts and responses always gives me the motivation and the instant gratification helps me keep going! 🙂

.

What’s your favourite post to date?
I have a couple of them but I want to share the post I wrote called It’s All in the Mind which reflects how I have tried to change the inner dialogues that I keep having with myself.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Very casual; I prefer leggings, fitted tops, flats and minimal jewellery. I also love wearing dresses so you’ll always find me in either of the two.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

I’m a huge minimalist when it comes to make up,  but I always admire make up on others. From the little that I do use on a regular basis, the top 3 beauty items definitely have to be:

Patanjali Coconut Oil – Love it, recommend it. Coconut oil serves so many purposes and I sometimes use it as a body and hair moisturizer, even as a lip balm, for oil pulling, as part of a natural toothpaste and of course even for cooking. 😉 This particular brand doesn’t have a very overpowering coconut-ty smell which is perfect.

Himalaya Kajal stick – It’s herbal and I always wear it when I go out.

Kenzo Red Lipstick – I just love the color red!
.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Although I now avoid it, I used to love having a have a cup of hot sweet black tea when I came home tired. It’s so soothing. Apart from that, reading, watching comedy videos on YouTube and sleeping (haha!) are really great stress busters for me.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

I’m normally a quiet homebody on the weekends but if I had to idealize a perfect Saturday night, it would involve going to the beach with a few of my good friends, just sitting there till the sun rose and then going off to breakfast somewhere. 🙂

.

What do you do to relax?

I put on some old Bollywood music, put on a lavender scented candle, and either close my eyes and sing along or read a book.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I really need to work more on my planning skills. I start too many things at once, don’t get myself organized and eventually end up giving up on my goals too soon. Also, I procrastinate a lot until the idea becomes redundant.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

My dad always encouraged me to read, read, read and write, write, write. It didn’t matter what I wrote as long as I was consistently doing it. I would write short stories, letters et cetera on an old-fashioned typewriter (we also had a computer but it was a different feeling writing on the typewriter!) and my dad would send them to the local children’s magazines. It was the best feeling when my stuff would get published and the proud look on my parents’ faces was priceless. 🙂

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English! I was average at everything else but really good in English.

.

What’s your dream job?
I would love to write features and articles for magazines and have my own regular column.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I envision myself having the best level of health and fitness that I’ve ever had in my whole life. I also see myself being my own boss, i.e. being the owner of a small business that brings me joy. I can see myself travelling to a lot of places and speaking a couple of new languages. I can also visualize myself getting published in one form or the other (articles, stories et cetera.)

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Achieving optimum health and fitness

Learning French

Running a 5K

Starting my own small business

Travelling.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Getting on the permanent path of improving my health and fitness in a naturopathic way since 2010. I still have some way to go, but the journey has been very successful and rewarding so far! 🙂

.

Who inspires you?

I wish there was one person who I could attribute my inspiration to but I don’t have just one. Lately I have been getting inspired by so many people – family, friends, bloggers, YouTubers, writers, motivational speakers, leadership coaches, fitness experts, health and nutrition gurus, each one of them have been teaching me valuable lessons that I didn’t know before and I find that there is always so much more to absorb from everyone when you open your eyes to different possibilities.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

This too shall pass.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

  1. Plan, Plan, Plan – Something I am guilty of not doing very often but trying to be more diligent about. Planning is key before starting any blog. Write down your mission, vision and goals for the blog. Where do your blog to be in the next year? How do you plan on achieving these goals? Write down all your ideas in a notebook.
  2. Find your niche – Don’t get into something that you find everyone else doing. Start blogging about something you personally love and can see yourself continue writing about even 10 years down the line even if it’s something as uncommon as writing about plumbing or something. (Just an example!) Don’t worry, there are plenty of people who will share your interests.
  3. Get chatty – Network with other bloggers and be supportive. Blogging is all about sharing your ideas and opinions with your fellow peers, learn from them and to cheer each other on! It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

.

Behind The Blog featuring Chane’s Collection…

Chanes Collection

Hey Beauty Buddies…

Firstly, thanks to all who commented on yesterdays post ‘DIY Cute Snow Owl Christmas Decorations‘ both myself & Em’s had so much fun getting our sleeves rolled up on this little project. And how cute did they turn out right?! 😀 Also, first day of new job was a success – thanks so much for all your well wishes!! My new colleagues seem a fantastic bunch to work with. In fact I’m already feeling pretty settled in, which is a bit of a relief!

However onto today’s post as I have the gorgeous &  incredibly talented Chane from Chane’s Collection joining me on the virtual sofa this morning to give us all a little peek behind the scenes of her super stylish (and very beautifully designed) lifestyle, fashion & beauty blog. If you’re not already a follower of her features then don’t forget to head over and say a huge hello… I’m pretty sure you’ll love it just as much as I do 🙂

Time to grab that cuppa & get settled as we take a peek Behind The Blog

Chane

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

All things inspirational and fun.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Blogging has always been one of those things that I’ve wanted to do but I never really got round to doing it because of nerves. As an aspiring journalist, I wanted to discover a creative method which would enable me to share my daily thoughts and inspiration with others. Nearly a year on into my blogging journey, I have never felt more happier! All I do now is write, write, write!

 .

Tell us about your blog name
what made you decide on it?

My blog name is a portrayal of me. ‘Chane’s Collection’ is exactly that – it’s a collection of all things that inspire ME and hopefully, which will inspire others.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I suffer from Blogger’s Block at least 2-3 times a week. Blogging is always on my mind – I could be out shopping or having a cup of coffee and all of a sudden I’ll think, “What am I going to write about this week?” When this happens, I usually rummage through Pinterest in search of something that will inspire my next post. I also have a collection of other blogs that I read on a daily basis, Confetti & Curves included, that inspire my posts. It’s a working process.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post to date would have to be ’20 Things That Make Me Happy’ purely because it’s a portrayal of me as opposed to just being a blogger. I think it’s important for your readers to know who you really are as opposed to just being ‘the person who owns that blog’. It’s the only way you can make a real connection with your readers.

Read my ’20 Things That Make Me Happy’ post here:

https://chanescollection.wordpress.com/2015/08/22/20-things-that-make-me-happy/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

My every day clothing style is pretty basic. I like to feel comfortable so if I’m not wearing a pair of skinny jeans, you’ll probably find me in a pair of leggings and T-Shirt.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

I am currently in love with Bare Mineral’s Lash Domination mascara. I hate wearing heavy eye-make up but at the same time I crave long lashes. This product gives you long lashes in less than three coats. I’m also loving John Frieda’s Go Blonder Haircare range as I find that it enhances my highlights. I pretty much love all of Dermalogica’s facial products too. It’s the only brand that keeps my skin spot free!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

If I’ve had a really stressful day, I’ll run myself a hot bath in addition with a few bath bombs from LUSH. I literally chuck about one or two in my bath at a time. Besides, who wouldn’t want to sit in a pretty bath AND smell nice?

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday night would include a takeaway (Chinese of course) complete with either a selection of movies or watching the X Factor. You can’t beat Saturday night TV here in the UK.

.

What do you do to relax?

I often listen to serene music or watch a film in bed. I enjoy my own company…sometimes way too much. I’m not anti-social, I promise.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails…way too much.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

My most cherished memory as a child was the day I first learnt how to ride a bike without stabilisers. I felt like a living God! Seriously.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English has always been my favourite subject although I did hate the prospect of studying Shakespeare.

.

What’s your dream job?

Being a Journalist has always been a dream of mine. The thought of interviewing people from different backgrounds and cultures excites me. The prospect of actually writing for a magazine/newspaper and seeing my name in printed letters gives me heart palpitations. I can’t wait to have a career in Journalism!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I hope to have graduated with a degree and hopefully launch myself into the workplace with a career in editorial and Journalism. I crave the journo lifestyle.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Take a trip to New York.

Swim with dolphins.

Go skinny dipping (I like to experiment, people).

Take a trip to Paris and try a snail. I heard they taste like chicken.

Have a picnic in a deserted field somewhere complete with fairy lights, candles and a blanket large enough to fit a three course meal on. I think I watch too many movies.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement has to be passing my driving test. It took me four times…yes, really. However, now that I am driving, I have so much freedom. It’s a new chapter in my life which continues to excite me whenever I get behind the wheel!

.

Who inspires you?

My family, my Mom in particular. Whenever I’m feeling down, they are the only ones who keep me going.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I know this is cringe-worthy, but one of my favourite quotes has to be from the movie, ‘A Cinderella Story’. It states, “Never let the fear of keep you from playing the game”. God, I live for that movie.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

My biggest top would be to be YOU and be ORIGINAL. Every blogger is different, so you have to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Always look for ways to improve your blog whether it’s a simple case of changing your header or planning your posts in a more consistent way.

Every little helps, believe me. I recently wrote a post called ’10 Things Every New Blogger Needs to Know’ which features tips for writers who are new to the blogging world.  You can find it here: https://chanescollection.wordpress.com/2015/08/23/10-things-every-new-blogger-needs-to-know/

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Coffee. It wins every time.

Coke or Pepsi = Coke. Pepsi isn’t for me.

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Super organised. I think I have OCD considering how clean my room is. Not a dust ball in sight.

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = Puppies! Who doesn’t love puppies?

Night In or Night Out = I’m a night in kind of gal. All you need is comfort food, a million blankets and a Netflix account. That way, you’re pretty much sorted.

Heels or Flats = I’ll be honest with you all, I am an EMBARRASMENT when it comes to wearing heels. I live for flats.

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = Lipstick…but only if it’s matte!

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Pop princess…minus the crown.

Paperback or E-book = Paperbacks are so much better! I like to actually hold the book in my hands as opposed to reading it off a digital device. It enhances your reading experience as a whole.
