Why It’s OKAY To Take A Blogging Break…

taking-a-blogging-break

A few months ago, the thought of taking a short break from blogging left me riddled with guilt. For over two years I’ve poured my heart and soul into rolling up my sleeves to scribe (what I hope are) engaging blog posts, edit creatively styled photographs & have spent countless hours banging an impatient fist on my desk at the painstaking task of video editing – trust me my poor hand has came off so much worse than my videos usually did *sigh*

However a few weeks ago I was faced with the dilemma of either taking a short-term blogging break or running myself into some sort form of breakdown… considering I’ve already more grey hairs than I can shake a Garnier bottle at I decided on an extended blog holiday instead! So I slipped myself into the background to get a whole host of things tied up, rearranged, planned and not to mention the ongoing health battles that are forever a pain in my existence. Little did I know I was slowly but surely burning myself out… in fact, it TOOK a blogging break for me to realise just how much I pressure I was putting on myself without even realising it.

As much as I initially wandered the floors with a cloud of guilt looming over my head, after a few days I loosened up and slowly began to busy myself with all the things that have been cluttering up my to do list. One thing I will say, is that although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my blogging break I have reeeeeally missed my online community of blog buddies. It’s great to be back but for anyone who’s currently mulling over the prospect of a blogging break here’s a few reasons why you shouldn’t hold back or let guilt deny you a virtual jolly hol…

.

1) Time to simmer your creative juices.

Regardless of how much of a super-human blogger you may seem, just like any mere mortal we’re not pre-programmed with an abundant flow of creativity. Writers block and running out of steam can end up making your blog lack it’s orignal sparkle. So if you feel you’re losing your mojo then it’s time to step away for the keyboard until you’re ready to bedazzle your audience once again!

.

2) Get some life order.

Like a bazillion other bloggers out there I can’t just spend my days glued to the laptop screen conjuring up my next batch of posts – as much as I’d want to of course! I’m a mum, a wife, I have family commitments, my health etc etc. We ALL have ‘stuff’ outside of the virtual realms – a vacay really helps to focus on getting that other ‘stuff’ done without the pangs of guilt from not hitting the ‘publish’ button. It also enabled ME to see the busiest external areas in my life and work my blogging around my other commitments.

.

3) Helps reassess your blog path.

Hmm, this sounds a little deep, however, it’s true. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really assessing where I want to go with my blog and what I want to do with it. Right now I’m in the throws of organising a mass of stuff for Liquid Glamour, planning for college refresher courses next year, as well as testing a variety of new products I’ve been sent. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE blogging but I feel it needs to reflect & tie in with exactly where I am in life at the moment. People change, evolve, move on etc. I adore Confetti & Curves dearly but my blogging break helped me consider important things like rebranding and how to move forward with content that’s a little more relevant to my present circumstances.

.

4) Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Just because you step away from your blog for a while doesn’t mean you stop thinking about it all together, in fact, for me, it had the completely opposite effect. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to wondering if indeed it was getting any views, comments or if it had just disappeared into the blogosphere with a stat count emptier that a chocolate advent calendar on boxing day. I’ve built such great friendships throughout my blogging journey – it’s amazing just how much you miss the community and what a great feel it is stepping back into the arena from a short break. There’s nothing that warms the heart more that the ‘Welcome Back!!’ messages when logging on for a chat – it’s food for the soul!

.

5) YOU time.

It’s so easy to forget the one thing that makes a blog the thriving little corner of the internet that it is – YOU. You take a break from school, work and even just a holiday from life in general so why not the same for your blog? Blogging can be bizarrely addictive but if we’re not careful it’s easy to get sucked into a routine of churning out post-after-post. A break from blogging & social media can be just as refreshing as a holiday itself and can really help you evaluate if the amount of effort you’re pouring into your blog works with your lifestyle. Thankfully for me, blogging is simply a hobby – it’s not a means of income or a full time job. However, IF that was the case my uniform would probably be a pair of pj’s and slipper socks… now there’s a life goal to aim for hehe 😉

blogging-break-1

Have you thought about taking a blogging break? Maybe it’s something you’ve done in the past? Are you a blogger that often feels guilty about taking time away from your blog? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below.

Ps: Oh and one last thing – GEE I’VE MISSED YOU GUYS!!! 😀

Until I Met You: Awesome Things About Being A Mum…

me and ems

Whoever suggests being a parent is easy is either in complete state of denial or 5 years old & cuddling a Tiny Tears doll. I’m convinced of this not just from my own experience but from also watching my own mum raise 4 children of her own. Okay, so I admit she made it look a little easier than anticipated… even during those days when I’m pretty sure all she longed for was a one way ticket to an undisclosed desert island with a suitcase full of her favourite tea bags & four finger Kit-Kats. Needless to say I adore her for everything she unknowingly taught me about raising a little person of my own. Nothing was sugar coated – she’s real, honest and fiercely protective of “her wee chicks” as she dotingly called us.

Yep, I know – this post seems totally out of the norm from my usual beauty rambles, but having spent the last few days cooped up & recharging the batteries back to some kind of normality it’s got me feeling all smushy about just how much I wholeheartedly appreciate my own little girl. As much as I could sit here and roll my eyes about every tiny little nuisance that us parents put up with, on the contrary I’m reflecting on all the things I love about having a daughter. All the things that make me smile, those little moments your heart captures and you think to yourself “this little person will never truly understand just what they mean to me”.

I’m sure many of you who are mums (or dads) will already get what I mean – there are days that you can literally feel the arrival of countless grey hairs, but then there’s the other days when you just know you’re beyond blessed to have such an almighty purpose in your life. Well for me, today is one of those days… the blessed kind. And so thank you Emma for everything you do; the morning hugs, always telling me I’m beautiful, asking me if I’d like a cup of tea, kissing me on the cheek as you run outside to play in the garden, breaking my mood by erupting into cheeky fits of giggles when I’m angry, making me little hand drawn cards, putting your absolute heart & soul into revising so darn faithfully for your upcoming exams – even though it’s your summer holidays!!! You deserve everything you wish for, not because you want it but because of the patience & strength you pour into working for it. At only 10 years old you’re inspiring your mum beyond measure. I thought I had determination, until I met you.

pink heart

So, what’s your plans for today? I’ll be having giggles galore spending time with my daughter, then afterwards I’ll call my mum and tell her all about it 🙂

I’ve Had Better Days…

not well 1

I really do feel like I’ve a HUGE apology to make chums… I know many of you have left such lovely comments & email catch-up’s over the weekend, most of which I haven’t had a chance to even glance at yet let alone muster up the energy to reply too. Unfortunately I’ve been cooped up since yesterday with my chronic pains flaring up to the point I had to bum shuffle down the blooming stairs in sheer agony *sobs* but also the summer lurgies has been bestowed upon me. I assumed all my sneezing and wheezing on Saturday evening was a kick-ass dose of hayfever (something I’m no stranger to living in the country) however by Sunday lunch time I knew it was so much more than that, and so as I type I’m half buried under a mountain of tissues, nasal sprays, cough relievers & cold remedies. I sound a right bundle of fun, eh?! *aahhh choo*

not well 3

It was only as I was wrapped up under a blanket yesterday afternoon that I thought back to the days when I was a little girl – feeling sick was soooo much nicer as my gran would have made a big pot of vegetable soup, brought me a bottle of Lucozade (you know the 80’s glass dimpled bottle clad in the orange cellophane wrapping) and of course the obligatory punnet of seedless grapes. Cartoons were put on & you just lay there feeling so comfy whilst being fussed over *happy sigh*

Needless to say I’m a mama now, and so lying about for too long isn’t an option as there’s my own little lady to take care off – who I must say is  such a sweetheart to me. Steve has made the yummiest pot of stew I’ve ever tasted and for the entire day I was ordered to rest up whilst they tackled tidying up, housework and topping up my glass with much needed fluids… not to mention the occasionally pineapple ice lolly 🙂 I’m blessed to have such a great wee team who muddle together and allow me to feel sorry for myself for a day or two.

not well 2

So please bear with me chums, I promise I haven’t forgotten about replying to you guys nor am I ignoring your emails, I’m just simply out of order for a few days until I’m feeling a little more able to stay on the computer for a longer period to chat with you all!

pink heart

Really hope everyone had a lovely weekend and that you’re all keeping as well as can be… and if you’ve a few minutes to spare say hello in the comments below – the virtual company would be lovely and it’s always a treat hearing from you guys!

Six Steps for Flawless Foundation…

Flawless Foundation Steps

I’ll let y’all in on a little confession… up until a few years ago I was a daily wet-wipe offender *shakes head* My poor face rarely ever seen anything other than baby wipes, not even moisturiser *gasps of horror* and needless to say I was paying the price for it. Badly. My skin was dull – almost grey in fact. My foundation looked blotchy and my red patches where blazing so hot you could’ve lit a Yankee candle of them. Then beauty blogging happened, and it saved my skin. Yes, YOU lot quite literally saved my face.

However in the process I slowly discovered that you don’t NEED to spend a fortune on making your complexion the best it can be (unless you really want to that is) and because of this, over the past few years I’ve been blessed to have had quite a few compliments on how well my foundation looks, or how youthful my skin is. Like any mortal being, there are days I royally slip of the skin-care bandwagon and without surprise I can notice a difference almost instantaneously as my makeup begins to show the price of my laziness. So with that in mind I thought I’d share a few of my own hints and tips on creating a great blank canvas for foundation. Needless to say I’m by absolutely no means a skincare expert, if anything I’m merely a novice looking after the skin I’ve been blessed with using the budget I have. So if this sounds like something you might be interested in taking a peak at then get yourself comfy as I uncover my six essential tips in prepping your face for an outstanding base…

.

Step 1: Cleanse

No 7 Soft Skin Cleanser

Wash your face thoroughly using a mild facial soap that’s suitable for your skin type. I have oily/combo skin and find that Olay works really well for me (personally) However other great drugstore brands include Simple which is a great pocket friendly alternative, or if you fancy extending your budget a little further Boots No 7 range is truly the bee’s knees!

.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Seaweed Exfoliator

Remove all those nasty dead skin cells to reveal a squeaky clean and smooth surface which is perfect for makeup application! The Body Shop’s Seaweed Exfoliator is PERFECT for the job as it leaves your face feeling totally refreshed and silky smooth. For a mere £10 it’s well worth the investment! No wonder it gets 5 star reviews 😉

.

Step 3: Tone

Olay Toner

Although I’ve always been a little dubious over the need for toning I must admit I’ve quite recently started to notice a significant different in my skin on those lazy days when I tend to skip this step. My Olay Daily Essentials 2-in-1 Toner always helps remove the last remaining traces of any nasties clogged up in the pores whilst gently restoring the balance of my skin after a good old deep cleaning.

.

Step 4: Moisturise

Astral

For me this step has always ended up the key to how good (or bad) my face is going to look for the remainder of the day. Too much moisturiser and everything ungracefully slides off, too little and I end up with more dry patches than a patchwork quilt. Getting the right moisturiser to suit your skin is absolutely essential. Personally the champion of all moisturisers I’ve used is Astral. It’s pocket friendly at a mere £3.99 but knocks the absolute socks of the more expensive brands with their unpronounceable advertising gibberish. Yep, sometimes basic really is best. In fact don’t just take my word for it… check out the reviews on the Boots website by *clicking here*

.

Step 5: Spritz

Caudalie_Grape_Water

I must admit gals, this is a step that I frequently tend to forget however when I do remember to spray my face with a light facial mist it makes my skin feel incredibly refreshed and hydrated. I also notice quite a considerable difference when I do, particularly if I’ve had a few lazy days where my skin care routine has been a top priority! I personally love the Claudalie Grape Water which I mentioned a few weeks ago in my Beach Bag Essentials post.

This gorgeous organic grape water contains no nasties whatsoever and works wonders even on the most sensitive skin types. It gives an extra boost of hydration and can even been used as a toner right after cleansing!

.

Step 6: Prime

Olay Primer

Before going any further, I always ensure my moisturiser has well and truly seeped into my skin otherwise I end up with makeup that doesn’t cover evenly or leaves my foundation quite patchy, which gets more noticeable as the day rolls on. Once my moisturiser is absorbed I love using Olay Anti Wrinkle Firm + Lift Primer as it really helps to smooth out my skin, reduces my redness and makes a great base for foundation that lasts considerably longer. Don’t be put off by the name if you’re blessed with baby faced looks as this is suitable for ALL ages gals!

Smashbox primer water

A great way to save time (without skipping Step 5) is opting for Smashbox Photo Finish Primer water, which is a rejuvenating facial spray that hydrates, moisturises and primes all in one go. It’s a little pricier at £20 but well worth the extra spend for a great prep & prime spray!

What’s your pre-makeup skincare routine? Do you have any tips for building a great base for your foundation? Have you any products you love to prep your skin with? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by and say a quick howdy 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

Behind The Blog featuring Claudia Marie…

Claudia Marie Fit

Hey Beauty Buddies…

Firstly, a huuuuge thank you to all who checked out yesterdays post Is It That Time Already?! Monthly Favourites. I’m still reeling at the fact that June has crept up on us so quickly, however I may be more shocked at the fact my YouTube subscriber list has grown instead of diminished after uploading yesterdays video(!!) If anything it’s certainly prompted me to up my game with summer make-up necessities, and with that in mind if you’ve any great recommendations for long lasting beauty goodies that bode well on these hot sunny days then do let me know in the comments below… heaven knows I need all the suggestions I can get right now gals 😀

However onto today’s post as I introduce y’all to the gorgeous Claudia from Claudia Marie Fit. I’m sure many of you are already familiar with this fresh-faced beauty as she regularly graces readers with glamorous make-up and lifestyle features. Can we also take moment just to congratulate her on losing a super impressive 60lbs!!! If you too could do with a dose of inspiration then why not *Click Here* check her recent feature where she talks all about her fantastic transformation into feeling more strong, confident & healthy about herself.

“Before I start answering Karen’s questions, I would like to take this moment to thank Karen so much for being such a kind and empowering woman and blogger. I am always so passionate when it comes to empowering women and that is why I immediately was drawn to Karen’s positive blog and connected with her. Thank you!” – Claudia.

(Ps: Thank YOU so much. What a fantastic compliment!!! *blushing*)

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I have always been that person who loved seeing others being happy and smiling…that is truly when I am the happiest (I mentioned that in my ‘Happiness Tag’ here: https://claudiamariefit.com/2016/05/10/the-happiness-tag/ ). It may sound cheesy but that comes truly from my heart.

My family and friends always come to me for beauty and fitness advice and I love sharing my knowledge, tricks and tips. I love how I can now extend this to my blog ohana (=Hawaiian for family) and reach even more women.

Once I obtained my 60lbs weight loss mark and kept it off, I thought to myself that I would love to start a blog where I hopefully will be inspiring and motivating other women. I know first-hand how difficult it can be to start a new lifestyle and moreover, to stick to it. Combined with my passion for beauty and traveling I created claudiamariefit.com. which I am so happy I did.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Uh that was a tough decision because all the names I was thinking of at first were already taken. So, I had to be creative and try different variations.

‘Claudia’ is my first name, so I definitely wanted to have that component in my name – simply because that is who I am!

‘Marie’ is my third middle name (I know I have a lot of names lol) but also my alter ego kind of name. I am typically a mix between introvert and extrovert but Marie stands for ‘get out there and achieve what you put your mind to.

‘Fit’ came to me as I changed my lifestyle to becoming more fit and healthy and my love for fitness and working out.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I have only started 1.5 months ago with my blog and so far I have a lot of ideas but I am a perfectionist and want to make sure that I am satisfied with the quality of my post. That is why I deleted quite a few posts which were not up to my standard.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

That is difficult as I put my heart into each one but…

The most heartfelt post must be the “How I lost 60lbs” post as I put myself out there and make myself very vulnerable https://claudiamariefit.com/2016/05/06/how-i-lost-60lbs-part-i-of-my-journey-to-healthy-strong-confident/.

My favourite post might be my very first one https://claudiamariefit.com/2016/03/24/aloha-and-welcome-to-my-blog/ because I remember all the emotions I had while writing and publishing it.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I would say that I am a casual chic type of girl 🙂 However, I also love to wear sporty clothes as well as sexy dresses depending on where I go and in which mood I am. I don’t like to be put in one category as I decide every morning how I want to feel/look like…

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

TooFaced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Medium- Dark

I just recently came across dermarolling and I love the difference it makes in my skin; so probably my dermaroller

Make Up Forever Aqua Lip Liner in the color 1C – I love this color to line my lips and to make them look full and pouty but still keeping them very natural.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I am a total beach person. If you can’t find me…chances are high,  that I am in the ocean. The ocean is my therapy and no matter what happened during the day, the ocean literally washes it off.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

I used to love going out with my friends and party (when I was in my late teens, early twenties) but now I would say that my perfect Saturday evening would incorporate having a nice BBQ on the beach, listening to reggae music in a hammock and talking about life with good people.

.

What do you do to relax?

In my day to day life I try to breath – sounds easier than it is. I use different breathing techniques which totally relax and calm me and down. Deep breathing makes me more focused and present as well.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

When I eat Nutella or cookies I can’t stop at one…the whole package or half of the pot is gone. I became much better since changing my lifestyle but Nutella is still my vice…and on bad days Nutella and a spoon has to be there to fix it J

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I am truly lucky and grateful because there are so many wonderful childhood memories that I have. But if I have to name only one, than it must be my summers in the South of France, where I spent the most amazing time with my aunties, uncles, cousins and friends. I remember the smell and taste of my uncles amazing paellas which made everyone come together and have a good time.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Chemistry – I loved mixing substances and creating solutions. I still think that it is pretty fascinating and with one of my best friend having a PhD in Chemistry and working for a big makeup brand fostered that fascination even more.

.

What’s your dream job?

Being a Forensic Psychologist. That is what I have studied and I love it!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I am not too sure – I just hope that I am happy no matter what I am doing.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Traveling – I would love to go to French Polynesia, Africa and Borneo

Giving back – that can be in different ways

Diving in Belize

Buying a house

Seeing Orang Utans in the wild (in Borneo)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I have obtained my degree in Psychology, I have lost 60lbs and I have made a difference in kids’ lives when working in an orphanage in Costa Rica.

.

Who inspires you?

My mother… she is such a positive person, and always sees the good side of everything.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I have two:

If you really want something (with all your heart), the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it – Paulo Coelho

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

If you have thought about it, than just do it. Sometimes we think too much and too long about things and even end up not doing it. Life is too short for not doing what you want.

Think about what you are truly passionate about and then start posting about it.

You may think that there are so many other bloggers out there who write about similar things but there is only one YOU out there and that will make the difference.

Needless to say he’s doing superbly, and a few of you mentioned you’d like to see a little more of him so watch this space… I just might get the camcorder out this week to record his cute little waddle! .

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve always had a passion for writing and photography. I’ve never enrolled for a photography course but it’s something I always wanted to do. So this time last year, I took the plunge and started blogging and have loved it since.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Now when I think about it, I wish I had  a very creative one but it’s just my name which is rather boring!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes absolutely, It happens all the time. think it’s important to put out content that you believe in. Never put out anything because you have to or you’re under pressure to do so. I look to people, nature, magazines, websites, for inspiration always.

My blog is an art for me, it’s a visual medium so I try to make sure only content that I’m truly happy with makes it even if I’m a little late in delivering.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I enjoyed writing for all my travel posts, but the one that stands out for me has to be the Bicester Village one.

It was a rainy day but I managed to get some good pictures. Also, a little nostalgic as the Carluccio’s restaurant is no longer there and I have very fond memories of it and it’s luckily been captured in the post.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I’d say my style is feminine and fun. I love colour and fabrics and love to mix and match. I love wearing long flowy dresses, with accessories..  a little bohemian touch.

.

What do you do to relax?

As before, catching up on tv shows and reading is a great relaxation for me. I watch many re-runs of the cheesiest tv shows, such a guilty pleasure!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

In terms of beauty, I hoard a lot of makeup. I don’t wait till it’s finished and will end up buying more. So that’s a habit that I’m trying my best to change now.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

There are so many fond memories..! Hmm the one that comes to my mind is going to the farm with my parents and siblings when we were younger and picking strawberries. We used to go pretty much every weekend and I really miss those times.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Gosh, I think it’s yet to come

.

Who inspires you?

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I love this quote by Rumi which is so uplifting ” Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure”.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

If there’s one thing that I have learnt, it is to be patient. A lot of people give up early. It takes time and effort for results to show. So keep working on good content and success will follow surely.

Connecting with fellow bloggers is key! Try to engage and communicate with likeminded people and it opens up the communications channels for you.

Most importantly be you!

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

10 Handy Makeup Application Hacks Everyone Should Know About…

Beauty Makeup Hacks

Regardless of whatever level we’re at when it comes to make-up application, it’s fair to say that there’s nothing quite as satisfying than finding a nifty little tip that really helps make life a whole lot easier. Thankfully the internet is awash with beauty secrets and handy hacks, some a little more surprising than others – in fact in some cases I often wonder who the heck was drunk enough to give them a go in the first instance. But hey, why ask questions if it works a treat, right ladies? 😉

So for those of you who love uncovering the simple solutions in life then check out these 10 handy make-up application hacks that every make-up maven, beauty blogger and cosmetic craver should know about…

#1: Embrace Your Inner Scrubber…

bubblegum-500x500

Using a lip scrub before applying your favourite lippy will help get rid of all the nasty dead skin, make your pout feel softer and in turn help your lippy to apply much smoother and stay on a whole lot longer.

I would personally recommend Lush Lip Scrub (the bubblegum flavour is deeeelish) as a prep and putting a light coat of Lip Cote over your lipstick after application to help keep your pout looking perfect for as long as can be. If you’re a fan of wearing bright red or dark plum shades it’ll also minimise any messy colour transference too!

.

#2: Bye Bye Concealer Crease…

elizabeth-arden-ceramide-concealer

If your concealer is prone to settling into the creases under your eyes try mixing it with a little eye cream before applying. Once mixed, smooth it out with a concealer brush for perfect coverage. This helps to add hydrating to under the eye area, hopefully minimising the effects of creasing!

.

#3:  Keep Your Head Up…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette

To help make your eyes look bigger, tilt your head back and slightly raise your eyebrows when applying shadows. Applying a shadow right on the crease can actually make your eyes look smaller so aim for the tilted area just above the crease and it will make your eyes appear that little bit bigger & brighter!

.

#4: Lay It How It Is…

DSC00632

If you find yourself a bit of a slow starter in the mornings or quite often pushed for time, then get into the habit of laying out your makeup the night before. It’ll only take a few minutes but will shave precious time off in the morning so you ultimately avoid groggily rummaging around your stash at the break of dawn. It’s a simple tip but surprisingly one heck of a time saver!

.

#5: Get Your Nude On…

nude liner

Are you often intimidated by some of the more intense lippy shades in your collection &  find yourself quite often avoiding using them? If so, invest in a simple nude liner. Applying this as a base will help tone the colour of your boldest lippies down but it’ll help keep your finished look fresh for so much longer!

.

#6: Milk It…

Milk of Magnesia

Oily skin affecting your foundation? Word has it that applying a light layer of Milk of Magnesia over your moisturiser before applying your makeup actually helps to mattify your foundation by soaking up excess oil. I personally haven’t tried this one yet but it’s something I’m oddly curious to give a go pretty soon!

.

#7: Keep It Neat…

Copper and Gold Metalic Eye Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Palette

Are you prone to smudged panda eyes under your lower lashes? Apparently the secret to avoiding this is by not using oil based moisturising eye creams but switching to a gel instead which helps eliminate the messy transference of mascara & liner running down to under your eye area!

.

#8: Blurred Lines…

DSC00508

Avoiding nasty un-blended lines when it comes to wearing bright eye shadow shades by applying a nude/skin tone shadow to your crease and brow bone as a base. This will help make those eye-poppin’ colours blend seamlessly together without any obvious lines.

.

#9: Dot To Dot…

Liquid Eye Liner Step by Step

Are you still finding it hard to master the perfect liquid liner? Find your flicks regularly more keek than on fleek? If so try using a series of little dots, starting with where you want your flick to end and then working your way towards the lid. All you have to do is simply join them once your done = viola, perfect liner!

.

#10: Powder Perfect…

blusher

Has your favourite powder compact developed a strange hard coating in areas making it pretty much ineffective? If so it’s more than likely a transference of natural oils from your fingers or make-up brush. To remove this hardened layer simply take a strip of clear sticky tape, place it over the hardened patch and rub the back (non sticky side) down with your finger. Peel the tape off the hardened area and it should restore your caked powder back to normal!

Monthly Favourites…

Monthly Favourites April

Every month I convince myself that I’m going to be super organised & keep a list of things I’m loving! Of course every month I fail. Miserably. The ironic thing is, is that I LOVE lists… in fact I quite often find myself sneaking things I’ve already done onto them, just for the satisfaction of ticking them off. After all, it seems a waste of a good chore not to tick it off, are you with me organised ladies? Anyways, the point is: every month I’m left foraging around my mental notes for things I know I’m loving and can’t wait to tell you guys about, but end up drawing a blank. However, low and behold this last few weeks I’ve managed to successfully keep tabs on a few little goodies I’ve been reaching for the most. So without further ado, here’s my monthly favourites for y’all to feast your eyes on…

Revlon Photoready Concealer – Light

Revlon Photoready Concealer

No monthly favourites would be complete without a standard makeup staple & this month I’ve been loving the Revlon Photoready Concealer. As opposed to some of the usual doe-foot liquid-applicator concealers I’ve used in the past, this one has the same format as a lippy – and honestly it’s sooooo much easier to apply. Granted, it’s a little thicker than most concealers but it’s done an awesome job of keeping the patches where my face drinks my foundation the most well covered and looking fresh for as long as possible. Big thumbs up from moi 😉

.

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Apart from being made and manufactured in good old Blighty, this is a fabulous cuticle oil. It’s not overly greasy like some I’ve used in the past and it hasn’t got a bizarre odour either. Although I’m a fan of savvy scents, this is a great happy medium for everyone as it’s not perfumed or infused with any kind of sweet/sickly smell. Just a great cuticle oil that’s been a life saver to saving the dire state of my own disastrous digits in these post winter months. Yaa hoo!

.

Rio Nail Art Pens – Neon Collection

Rio Nail Art Set

You gals know how much I love to dress up my nails with fun little nail art shenanigans, and although I’ve had this cute set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens for a few years now it quite often stays in hibernation until spring/summer when the colourful polishes come out of hibernation. This week I’ve been falling in love with polka dot nails all over again & these little pens are the perfect tool for dotting… OR stripping as they have alternative lids to meet all your nail art demands. Pretty cool huh?

.

Nail Stamping Kit

Nail Stamping Kit

Yep, I’m at it again… yet another nail art favourite. I just can’t seem to help myself this weather. But having created the most gorgeous little ombre animal nail prints, which you can check out for yourself by *Clicking Here* , I’m totally smitten with the endless possibilities this fabulous stamping kit has to offer! If you fancy taking a peak at it in action then *Click Here* to visit this weeks upload where you can see me demonstrating it in a fun how-to style video. Just don’t forget to hit that subscribe button while you’re over there 😉 hehe

.

Pearl Drops Hollywood Smile Teeth Whitener

Pearl Drops Ultimate Whitening

I’ve been hoarding this in my drawer for ages and finally it’s seen the light of day and got put to use a few weeks ago. I have to say I’m really beginning to notice a difference as my teeth are appearing a whole lot more shinier than before. Matching this up with my sensitive tooth paste, I now feel I’m well on my way to a much healthier looking smile 😀 Such an affordable and easy way to gently brighten and whiten your teeth!

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fitness, fashion, food, fun… and positivity!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started my first blog about 25 goals I wanted to accomplish by the time I was 25 years old.  Once that was completed, I wanted to keep going!  It became my creative outlet and I thrived on the positive community.  Here I am, still going strong several years later!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I was looking for something that encompassed a life of balance.  Yes, I work out, but I also love sweets.  And thus… Semi-Sweet Tooth!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Of course!  But I have my handy notebook that I bring with me almost everywhere and write down post ideas regularly.  Inspiration is everywhere!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh goodness, this is a tough one!  Two actually come to mind:

The Proposal: Because it was about such a huge, life-changing day.

6 30 15_1

An Ode to Girlfriends: In life, my girlfriends mean the world to me and keep me sane. This was the best way I could think of to say thank you. 🙂

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I go for classic and traditional everyday style.  If it gives any hints, my recent style icons are Joanna Gaines, Ashley Olsen, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Arbonne Mascara, Chantecaille Highlighter, and, recently, hair milk.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A glass of Red and a great book or favourite show.  (For those in America, “New Girl,” “Modern Family,” & “Fixer Upper.”)

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

After a great morning workout and healthy brunch with the girls, I’d have a steak dinner and glass of red with my fiancée and get early to bed.  Spending the day laughing and smiling with my friends and family sounds perfect to me!

.

What do you do to relax?

A great workout typically gets the job done, but if I really need to relax after a tough day, I go with yoga, meditation, or some time with my Bible.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Ugh… biting my nails and cuticles.  The worst.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, although I’ve used a steady mix of Math and English ever since that elementary school.

.

What’s your dream job?

When I was little, it was to be a rock star.  So why not?  I want to be a rock star!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list? Living big…

Visit every continent

Become a published author

Be a parent to happy, loving children

Have a bit part in a major motion picture (no speaking lines necessary)

Be President of the United States (told you… living big)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Growing into my own and becoming my own person has been quite the achievement, although that’s an ongoing process.

What would technically be my largest achievements would be graduating from college, competing on Team U.S.A. for ice skating (we won!), or starting my own brand and business with Semi-Sweet Tooth.

.

Who inspires you?

Several people, but primarily my parents.  They’re both incredibly different, one entirely left brain and one entirely right.  Both have inspired me in different ways and they’ve made me more confident and optimistic than many in the world.  They inspire me to achieve and follow my intuition every day.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Why settle for a spark when you can light a fire instead.”

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just start writing and write consistently.  Be open to the possibilities and see where it takes you!
