Why It’s OKAY To Take A Blogging Break…

taking-a-blogging-break

A few months ago, the thought of taking a short break from blogging left me riddled with guilt. For over two years I’ve poured my heart and soul into rolling up my sleeves to scribe (what I hope are) engaging blog posts, edit creatively styled photographs & have spent countless hours banging an impatient fist on my desk at the painstaking task of video editing – trust me my poor hand has came off so much worse than my videos usually did *sigh*

However a few weeks ago I was faced with the dilemma of either taking a short-term blogging break or running myself into some sort form of breakdown… considering I’ve already more grey hairs than I can shake a Garnier bottle at I decided on an extended blog holiday instead! So I slipped myself into the background to get a whole host of things tied up, rearranged, planned and not to mention the ongoing health battles that are forever a pain in my existence. Little did I know I was slowly but surely burning myself out… in fact, it TOOK a blogging break for me to realise just how much I pressure I was putting on myself without even realising it.

As much as I initially wandered the floors with a cloud of guilt looming over my head, after a few days I loosened up and slowly began to busy myself with all the things that have been cluttering up my to do list. One thing I will say, is that although I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my blogging break I have reeeeeally missed my online community of blog buddies. It’s great to be back but for anyone who’s currently mulling over the prospect of a blogging break here’s a few reasons why you shouldn’t hold back or let guilt deny you a virtual jolly hol…

.

1) Time to simmer your creative juices.

Regardless of how much of a super-human blogger you may seem, just like any mere mortal we’re not pre-programmed with an abundant flow of creativity. Writers block and running out of steam can end up making your blog lack it’s orignal sparkle. So if you feel you’re losing your mojo then it’s time to step away for the keyboard until you’re ready to bedazzle your audience once again!

.

2) Get some life order.

Like a bazillion other bloggers out there I can’t just spend my days glued to the laptop screen conjuring up my next batch of posts – as much as I’d want to of course! I’m a mum, a wife, I have family commitments, my health etc etc. We ALL have ‘stuff’ outside of the virtual realms – a vacay really helps to focus on getting that other ‘stuff’ done without the pangs of guilt from not hitting the ‘publish’ button. It also enabled ME to see the busiest external areas in my life and work my blogging around my other commitments.

.

3) Helps reassess your blog path.

Hmm, this sounds a little deep, however, it’s true. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been really assessing where I want to go with my blog and what I want to do with it. Right now I’m in the throws of organising a mass of stuff for Liquid Glamour, planning for college refresher courses next year, as well as testing a variety of new products I’ve been sent. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE blogging but I feel it needs to reflect & tie in with exactly where I am in life at the moment. People change, evolve, move on etc. I adore Confetti & Curves dearly but my blogging break helped me consider important things like rebranding and how to move forward with content that’s a little more relevant to my present circumstances.

.

4) Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Just because you step away from your blog for a while doesn’t mean you stop thinking about it all together, in fact, for me, it had the completely opposite effect. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to wondering if indeed it was getting any views, comments or if it had just disappeared into the blogosphere with a stat count emptier that a chocolate advent calendar on boxing day. I’ve built such great friendships throughout my blogging journey – it’s amazing just how much you miss the community and what a great feel it is stepping back into the arena from a short break. There’s nothing that warms the heart more that the ‘Welcome Back!!’ messages when logging on for a chat – it’s food for the soul!

.

5) YOU time.

It’s so easy to forget the one thing that makes a blog the thriving little corner of the internet that it is – YOU. You take a break from school, work and even just a holiday from life in general so why not the same for your blog? Blogging can be bizarrely addictive but if we’re not careful it’s easy to get sucked into a routine of churning out post-after-post. A break from blogging & social media can be just as refreshing as a holiday itself and can really help you evaluate if the amount of effort you’re pouring into your blog works with your lifestyle. Thankfully for me, blogging is simply a hobby – it’s not a means of income or a full time job. However, IF that was the case my uniform would probably be a pair of pj’s and slipper socks… now there’s a life goal to aim for hehe 😉

Howdy Beauty Buddies…

What a fabulous weekend it’s been. Friday night was a loooong overdue evening out to Belfast for a yummy meal with my little sis, which I must admit was deeelish – followed by a few cheeky cocktails thereafter 😉 I know, I’m a sucker for a strawberry daiquiri, needless to say my IBS didn’t show the same enthusiasm *sigh*  However, on Saturday afternoon Emma attended her bridesmaid fitting for her sister’s big day! I can’t quite believe my beautiful little step-daughter is getting married. Hayles and I first met when she was just a teeny bit older than Emma – it’s been such a journey over the years and I know I’m going to be a mass of tears and hankies on the day. Yes, waterproof mascara is top of my makeup essentials gals! Needless to say, I can’t wait to make the trip over to Wales for it, it’s been soooo long since I’ve seen the Welshies. There’ll certainly be lots of hugs and catching up to do!

Talking of catching up, if you aren’t up to speed with this week’s shenanigans, then why not grab yourself a cuppa and check out some of the fun features I’ve linked below. Hope you’ve all had a fabulous week, don’t forget you’re welcome to link any of your own blog posts you’d like me to stop by and check out too 🙂

Okay, I’m off to dig out the suitcases and make a packing list, what’s your plans for today?

The Beauty Collective…. What Do YOU Wanna Know?

the-beauty-collective-intro

Fancy taking part in something exciting? Course ya do!

Wanna interact with others? Meet new blog buddies? Find out what makes your fellow bloggers tick? Then why not roll up your creative sleeves and take part in an exciting new mini-series The Beauty Collective!

the-beauty-collective

Okay, bit of a back story for those of you who’s ears are perked and eyes are peeled… As you can see (up along the menu bar on Confetti & Curves) there’s an intriguing little tab entitled ‘Behind The Blog‘ – this was a series of fun weekly interviews that a whooooole host of fabulous bloggers took part in over a two-year period. The point of it? To allow the rest of us nosey bloggers to learn a little more about you & your fabulous corner of the interweb.

Of course after taking a break from Behind The Blog I’ve been inundated with emails from new bloggers asking if it’ll be making a return. However, fear not my little computer companions as it’s high time we started afresh  – and YOU have control in choosing the questions.

SO, in a digital nutshell, I’m inviting you lovely lot to submit a burning question you’ve been itching to ask other bloggers… this can be anything like:

‘How obsessed are you with your stats?’

‘Are you a self-confessed blog-stalker?’

‘What made you start blogging?’

‘Where do you see your blog in 5 years time?’

‘What ticks you off the most about blogging?’

‘How do you organise your blog schedule?’

(…and lots of other blog & beauty related questions)

.

A list of chosen questions will be compiled into a questionnaire and used as a great way to get to know fellow beauty bloggers. Sounds simple? Thought so 😉

For those eagerly waiting to take part, feel free to submit a question and if YOU would like to be a featured blogger on The Beauty Collective leave your details in the comments below & I’ll be in touch with more info very shortly.

Howdy chums,

Arre you all having a fabulous weekend? I done something I haven’t done in a looooooong time this weekend – went on a movie night with the gals. Yep, it was the Belfast premiere of Bridget Jone’s Baby on the big screen and we hit the town for a quiet night of giggles and chatter! How good is it to get out with the gals for a bit? After a yummy pizza, we made our way to the cinema and sat back in our leather recliners and watched in style. I think it’s safe to say our future cinema trips will certainly be VIP style for sure… so a huuuge thanks to Shelia & Kerry for such a fun night out! And yes blog buddies, the movie is a hoot – so if you haven’t seen it already make sure to treat yourself! Erm…. how hot is Patrick Dempsey?! *swoooon* 😉

As for today, I’m afraid it’s at home for me as I’m really battling through a tough run of pains, headaches and complete exhaustion – on a brighter not my appointment with the Rheumatologist has come through sooner than anticipated so I’m clinging on with hope that things may look a little more positive once I’m in his care. This is by FAR the toughest health issue I’ve been through, but I’m fighting it – one day at a time. So thanks to all you guys who are always so supportive and just an utterly fab bunch that never fail to keep my spirits up.

As always, I’ve posted below what’s been happening this week on Confetti and Curves! Don’t forget you’re more than welcome to leave links to blog posts you’d like me to check out too – I don’t always get to see what pops up on my blog WordPress reader so do paste your link below and I’ll be chuffed to pay you a visit 🙂

Howdy chums…

What a busy little week it’s been here at Confetti & Curves HQ – what with nails, catching up with chums, getting cuddles from my bestie’s new born baby boy & prepping for lots more shenanigans coming up next week; I kinda feel like I haven’t had a moment to sit down and chatter with you lovely lot… until now that is! So my apologies if replies are running a little later than normal this week, however I’m afraid time is precious and I truly wish I could magic a few more hours into the day. What a week it’s been here at Confetti & Curves HQ as the overnight bags were packed & we all set sail for the gorgeous Dunadry Hotel to help celebrate the wedding of Mr & Mrs Smith (aka mum & her new hubby!) There was confetti, strawberry daiquiris & plenty of water proof mascara (accompanied by copious amounts of tissues) as the happy tears rolled. It was brilliant – however I’m still in hotel mode… Oh to be waited on – I could easily get used to that lifestyle no problemo gals 😉

As for yesterday we took a fab family trip out to our local aquarium Exploris in Portaferry, which has just reopened its doors after a lengthy refurbishment. If anyone’s planning on visiting the gorgeous Co. Down coast line be sure to pop in – it’s a fantastic day for the entire clan. Needless to say our trip ended with a yummy meal in the Quays restaurant… and yes the ‘Death by Chocolate’ fudge cake was every crumb as ahhhhmazing as the glowing recommendations *nom*

And so today is all about catching up with the mountain that is my ‘To Do’ list. As much of a fun week as it’s been I’m in desperate need to get back into a routine and simmer into reality again. But for the moment it’s time to chill & catch up with some blog reading as I sip on my Sunday morning cuppa. And if you’re doing the same then why not check out a few of the fun features that’s been hot of the virtual press this week on Confetti & Curves.

What are you up to today? Don’t forget to say a quick howdy in the comments below ❤

Websites For Free Makeup & Beauty Samples….

Free and Luxury Sample Makeup And Beauty Websites

If you’re as obsessed about beauty (and blogging) as I am, you’ll know only too well how long your wish list is and how expensive sampling new products can be when you’re loading a shopping basket in your favourite makeup store – not all of us have the cosmetic budget of Kim Kardashian *sob*

One question I get asked pretty frequently, particularly from new bloggers, usually evolves around approaching brands to review samples which can be especially daunting when you’re working hard on building a community of regular readers. However both consumers and bloggers are using dedicated websites to request free samples more than ever before – okay, so for some freebies you may have to answer questionnaires etc but if you’re eager to try something for zero spend then surely it’s worth a few minutes of your time?

Alternatively there are ‘Luxury Sample’ sites where you can purchase a range of high end creams, lotions and potions that you’ve been wanting to try before taking a risk spending £££’s on the full size product – and potentially not liking it as much as you hoped! In fact I’ve lost count of the amount of times a product has been raved about in reviews, and after purchasing  it myself have discovered it just wasn’t for me. Needless to say it’s pocket wrenching clearing out a makeup stash crammed with stuff you don’t like or never use *sigh*

So for those of you who are eager to give the freebie sites a go – or toying with the thought of investing in some luxury samples, here’s a comprehensive list of some of the most popular UK sites I’ve found from around the interwebs…

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

I’ve found a new addiction gals… Candy Floss Grapes. In fact by the time I’ll have hit the ‘publish’ button I’ll have most likely munched my way through a quarter of a punnet – they’re incredible. Have you tried them? I know, I know, I’m late on the ‘candy floss grape wagon’ but nevertheless if you haven’t then you absolutely must!

However apart from consuming vast amounts of grapes, it’s been a busy little weekend here for us all. Between nails, new goodies arriving, planning wedding outfits, finalising a bridesmaid dress for Emma and trying to pick a colour for the kitchen walls… I’m currently stuck between duck egg & pistachio green – all votes welcome ladies!! The bizarre thing is I’m only EVER indecisive when it comes to making decisions for myself. If this was someone else’s kitchen I’d be totally on the ball, but the natural thing for me to do is torture myself for a few weeks (possibly months) before deciding on a colour and then change my mind at least a dozen times thereafter *dramatic eye roll*

Nevertheless onto what’s been happening this week on Confetti & Curves… well thankfully my mouth is healing fabulously so a YouTube chatter is most definitely on the cards for next week sometime, but of course the guilt of not having filmed anything this past few days looms large. Why oh why do I do it to myself?! 😀 Anyhoo, for those of you curled up on the couch today or resting with the feet up and taking it easy – here’s a quick run through of what’s featured over the last few days… just in case you fancy a spot of catching up!
