See You Soon…

The time has come. Just one more sleep…

Only one more night of shut eye before we set sail for England (Birkenhead to be exact) and road trip ourselves down to South Wales. Our bags are packed, we’re ready to go. The final wedding of 2016 draws oh-so-near as my gorgeous step-daughter Hayley prepares for her trip down the aisle. I can’t believe the little girl I first met back in the summer of 2004 is now all grown up and getting ready to marry the groom of her dreams! It’s her fairytale day – and my does she deserve it!!

(Hayley on her bridal shower)

Hayley (and Jessica – my eldest step-daughter) lost their mum, Sian, to breast cancer just a few years before I met their dad; my hubby Steve. It’s almost impossible for me to fathom just how raw it must feel when you’re a little girl, losing one of the most important and cherished people in your life. But they have coped astoundingly well, in fact, they’re two of the bravest girls I know. They’re also two of the most accepting and beautifully natured in their own extra special ways, and I’m beyond blessed to have been so warmly welcomed into the family all those years ago.

Of course, the little thread that bound us even closer together was the arrival of my daughter Emma – their little sis. Em’s hasn’t slept a wink these past few nights with excitement for the trip… and the all important task of being one of her big sister’s bridesmaids! Seeing my three girls together again will be incredible. I’m not even going to speculate the sheer amount of emotional selfies I’ll return home with ❤

(My 3 gorgeous girls… Jessica, Emma & Hayley)

So to keep today’s post short & sweet, it’s just to say I’ll be taking this week to spend time with my girls, catch up with family I haven’t seen in years, help with wedding planning and of course celebrate with the occasional strawberry daiquiri… you should all know by how vulnerable my weakness for vibrant coloured cocktails is!

Wishing you all a fabulous week ahead, whatever you’re up to – I’ll be back early next week to resume normal blogging service!

Cocktails, Cake & Celebrations…

As promised, I mentioned I would post a few pics of the wedding for y’all to have a gander at! For those new to Confetti & Curves, it was my mum’s wedding recently & as we celebrated the occasion the shameless selfies were in full flow! Here’s just a few of the fun shenanigans that made her wedding day such a memorable one…

The location…

The bride and groom choose the Dunadry hotel, a gorgeous old mill house tucked away in the country side with a real cosy family feel.

The staff were incredible – as were the cocktails 😉

Of course to help burn off all those extra calories the hotel had a leisure suite & swimming pool which Steve, Emma & I managed to visit during our stay. Ridiculous as it may seem, it was actually my first time in a jacuzzi… what a relaxing experience that was after emerging from the hot mass of bubbles *happy sigh*

The night before…

With most of the bride’s closest family members checked in, the celebrations were already in full swing the night before the wedding as we gathered for mums last meal as a single gal! How excited does she look?

Naturally it wasn’t long before the silliness & selfies commenced… thanks to my younger sis Leah for bringing along some fun face accessories 😀

Somebody call Vogue….. my two brothers, Kirk & Curtis posing for the camera.

Even uncle Clifford gave it a go!

Leah *pretending* to look civilised 😉

The Big Day…

The morning of the wedding seemed a bit hit or miss with a few light showers… however by afternoon the sun rays were peeking through the clouds. How gorgeous is the garden?!

It was an early start in the bridal suite as the makeup artists arrived to work their magic ❤

Shameless self promo alert: a quick peek at my wedding nails – don’t forget to pop over to Liquid Glamour on Facebook & hit the like button!

By midday we were glammed up and ready to go! Nerves were on the up but the champagne & strawberries helped keep us all a little more chilled out *clink*

Lynn (our incredibly talented hairdresser & family friend) who is skilled beyond words… not a follicle out of place the entire day! How gorgeous do both these ladies look? Loving Leah’s floral dress!

Finally it was time to take our seats and test our waterproof mascara as the ceremony commenced. Such a beautiful room!

The bride and groom getting ready to sign the register as little Emma watched over her gran ❤

Officially husband & wife as the witnesses sign the register!

The cutest favour bags filled with homemade fudge (thanks to Leah’s baking skills) along with my little crafted ‘Eat Me’ tags… such a fun project that was so simple to make!

The cutting of the cake… a very happy Mr & Mrs Smith ready to dance the rest of the evening away!

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

What a week it’s been here at Confetti & Curves HQ as the overnight bags were packed & we all set sail for the gorgeous Dunadry Hotel to help celebrate the wedding of Mr & Mrs Smith (aka mum & her new hubby!) There was confetti, strawberry daiquiris & plenty of water proof mascara (accompanied by copious amounts of tissues) as the happy tears rolled. It was brilliant – however I’m still in hotel mode… Oh to be waited on – I could easily get used to that lifestyle no problemo gals 😉

As for yesterday we took a fab family trip out to our local aquarium Exploris in Portaferry, which has just reopened its doors after a lengthy refurbishment. If anyone’s planning on visiting the gorgeous Co. Down coast line be sure to pop in – it’s a fantastic day for the entire clan. Needless to say our trip ended with a yummy meal in the Quays restaurant… and yes the ‘Death by Chocolate’ fudge cake was every crumb as ahhhhmazing as the glowing recommendations *nom*

And so today is all about catching up with the mountain that is my ‘To Do’ list. As much of a fun week as it’s been I’m in desperate need to get back into a routine and simmer into reality again. But for the moment it’s time to chill & catch up with some blog reading as I sip on my Sunday morning cuppa. And if you’re doing the same then why not check out a few of the fun features that’s been hot of the virtual press this week on Confetti & Curves.

The Big Day Has Arrived…

Wedding Day

Today’s the day my mum is getting married. Seems strange typing those words… my mum, getting married. It’s been a crazy year with lots of fun prep and she’s been excitedly counting down the days – getting more nervous as the weeks pass, just like every bride does.

Of course, it’s not everyone gets to see their mum getting married. However I’m one of the lucky few who can watch her take her vows knowing that she is the happiest I have seen her in a very long time. Thank you Ray, you’ve brought a whole lotta sunshine into her life (no pun intended, hehe)

So today, I’m donning my best dress, have my waterproof mascara on and am ready to celebrate two awesome people saying their ” I Do’s”. Only instead of it being a friend it’s my mum – and I’m so utterly happy for her.

Love you mum, hope you have the day you’ve always dreamed off. No matter what your surname is or who you walk down the aisle too, when you look around I’ll always be there making sure you’re okay ❤

Now time to party… have a great day folks, see y’all when I’m back on Friday!

The Nail File: Bridal Nail Art Designs…

Bridal Nail Art Designs

With two major weddings this year to attend (my mums in just over a week and my step-daughters in mid November) its certainly been wedding fever gallore within the Rees household. Bridesmaid dresses, outfits, sparkly accessories, hotels booked etc etc It really is all go. Having worked in the bridal industry a good few years ago it takes me back to some of the fun being involved in planning weddings – of course at the time I had a bridal shop and was working closely with a number of brides from all aspects of their outfits. However now I’ve moved on it’s great once again to get the opportunity to be creative with some other aspects of bridal designs – namely nails. This week I thought I’d showcase some of the fun and simple nail art I’ve been working on over the last few days, it may even inspire any brides-to-be readers. Sitting comfy? Then let’s take a peek…

Simple French tip with an antique gold flower design

Bridal Nail 1

A slightly unique twist on a classy bridal favourite – the French tip. This would also look stunning in silver or rose gold… alternatively it could be put into the same colour as your maids dresses. What a cute way to blend in perfectly!

Lace effect matte nail in ‘Cake Pop’ pink

Bridal Nail 2

I must admit I’ve never been a fan of matte but I love the lace design against the backdrop of this beautiful opaque pink. This would also be equally stunning is a huge array of other colours too… I’m tempted to try it with a black and white design!

Gold floral lace-effect stamp on nude gel base

Bridal Nail 3

Although I’m usually more creative on longer nails, it gives a really good impression of just how pretty shorter nails can look too. If you’re anything like me, long nails are a certainly bit of a challenge to work with… don’t even get me started on attempting to type with them! *rolls eyes*

Bride-To-Be pink & white nail with single crystal & mermaid effect nail powder over white

Bridal Nail 4

I love this cute little design I spotted recently on Facebook, unfortunately I can’t remember the artists name to credit them but it really inspired me to give it a go myself! I adore the teeny necklace which adds such a fun yet simple elegant to the design.

The Grooms Tux black & white nail design

Bridal Nail 5

Bit of a unique one – but super fun for any bride who fancies something a little different that will certainly catch the eye of her guests and look really playful in photographs too!

Behind The Blog featuring Dawn from March To The Aisle…

March To The Aisle

Hey Beauty Buddies

It’s Tuesday which can only mean one thing on Confetti & Curves… our first fun-filled Behind The Blogger of the week joins us on the virtual sofa! *woo hoo* Today I’m deeelighted to introduce the lovely Dawn from March To The Aisle. As I’m sure you can tell, Dawn’s blog follows her journey as a bride-to-be in the throws of wedding planing alongside her fiance Lee (the rather handsome chap pictured below!) Of course being a seemingly cool & collected bride, Dawn is taking to wedding planning like a duck to water and as a result her blog is sprinkled with some valuable hints & tips that will undoubtedly come into great use for others in the same bridal boat.

However fear not for those readers who aren’t currently up to their eye’s in bridal fairs and dress fittings, as Dawn wonderfully intertwines a sprinkling of beauty & life-style features to keep readers of all marital statuses entertained along the way.

You know the drill by now ladies, flick the kettle switch & nestle into your comfiest chair as we take a quick peek Behind The Blog

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Weddings, wanderings and wonderful things

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’m a designer but have always been interested in writing. I wrote a few blog posts a couple of years ago when I ran my first marathon and then just stopped (for no real reason) once the race was over. Once I was engaged last September I found my self reading lots of online resources for brides to be. My one issue with some of them is that they’re not that ‘real’ and so my idea for a blog where I would share my real life journey was born. Finally in June I published my first post and I’m enjoying writing about my journey so far. March To The Aisle isn’t just about the big day, it’s all the little things that happen in the lead up, so I’ll be reviewing products that help me in my everyday life and trips I take with my fiancé for example.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

March To The Aisle is a bit of a play on words. I’m heading to the aisle myself in March next year and The Wedding March is traditionally played at a wedding ceremony. So it’s my journey to the aisle next year, and I’ll be doing it in March. It made sense to me when I thought of it…

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I’ve only been actively blogging for just a few months and so at the moment ideas seem to be flowing thick and fast. I tend to do a lot of my writing on the train (as I have an hour commute to work) and I carry my iPad with me most of the time to note down any ideas I have. I’m trying to make a note whenever I think of an idea for a potential post so that I can expand on it later and I’m hoping that if I ever get Blogger’s Block I’ll have a little pool of ideas to turn to. Failing that I always find that a little browse on Pinterest helps to fuel my creative ideas.

What’s your favourite post to date?

For me this is a tough one. It’s a toss up between Honeymoon planning: It’s all booked and Saving our date

I loved writing about our honeymoon plans as it makes me feel excited about the amazing trip we’re going to take and I got to reminisce about holidays Lee and I have taken. But the save the dates were a chance for me to share some of my designs with my readers and it was cathartic to list out why I’d been delaying sending them for so long. I’ll let you pick a favourite!

Describe your everyday clothes style:

At the moment I wear a lot of pencil skirts, camisole tops and leather flip flops. Once the weather cools down I’ll be back in skinny jeans, chunky jumpers and ankle boots!

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Coconut oil – it’s so versatile

Benefit Gimme Brow – makes my brows look full and groomed

Perfectil – I’m not sure if it’s helping my hair but it’s definitely improved the dark circles under my eyes

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to cook a nice dinner and enjoy it with my fiancé Lee, then sit on the sofa with our cats Freddy and Missy and watch a good film.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

A nice meal and cocktails with Lee and our friends.

What do you do to relax?

I enjoy running and find that a good run will help to clear my head if I’m stressed. Otherwise I absolutely love a facial, it’s one of my favourite treats!

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I can find it quite hard to make decisions. It’s actually driving Lee a bit nuts with the wedding plans I think. For example I’ll suggest a style of cake I like and then 2 days later will find another one and then be unsure of which I prefer.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Holidays with my mum, dad, brother and nan.

What was your favourite school subject?

Graphics, I loved drawing and designing and now I get to do both everyday.

What’s your dream job?

Formula One reporter – If I ever win the lottery I’m going to spend a year going to every race on the calendar!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Married, happy and doing something I love.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Go on safari

Marry Lee

Start a family

Start my own business

Get an article published in a magazine

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Running the London Marathon. It’s an achievement in its own right but it’s also how I met the love of my life.

Who inspires you?

As cheesy as it sounds mum is a total inspiration to me. She is the kindest, most selfless person I know. She works hard and it’s the centre of our family, I admire the way she lives her life and what she has achieved. If I grow up to be like my mum it would make me proud.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Never above you, never below you, always beside you – Walter Winchell

It’s something my friends and I say to each other if we’re going to have a shot when we’re out drinking. I have the most amazing group of girlfriends from school and I know we’re always there for each other no matter how our lives change. This quote just fits us so well.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Give it a go, what do you have to lose. There’s never going to be a right time to start blogging and you could put it off forever. I’d say write about something you have passion for as this will come across in your posts and things will develop from there.

Ask Me Anything…

Hey Blog Buddies,

As most of you know, I launched Confetti & Curves back in October of 2014. Since then I’ve had the utter pleasure of making so many new interweb chummies – all thanks to the powers of WordPress & Social Media! Starting off in the blogging world is always pretty nerve wrecking but having a community of such supportive & encouraging folk really does wonders for the confidence and builds amazing new friendships along the way.

Of course being marinated with kindness from you lovely lot has also recently given me incentive and courage to even start my own YouTube channel *click here to check it out*… something I NEVER thought was personally achievable, yet it’s happened and I’m loving the *slightly intimidating* fun I’m having making my weekly rants and rambles. However recently it occurred to me that even though I blog 5 days a week, interview many of you guys for the roaringly successful Behind The blog series, read your posts & interact with as many of you as time allows me to, I thought it would be fun to invite you to ask me any questions you just might have that I normally don’t cover in my day-to-day posts. Sounds like fun? *Hmm* I thought so too 😀

So if there’s anything YOU would like to know – it could be about likes, dislikes, friends, personal life, family life, relationships, work, beauty, career, coping with anxiety, health, parenting, the blog…. *the list goes on*… then by all means leave your question in the comments below & I’ll be sure to tackle it all in a Q&A video. Oh, and do feel free to leave the url to your blog/YouTube channel too (if) you’d like me to include it in your mention.

pink heart

Wishing ya’ll a rather jolly Monday *if that’s at all possible* 😉

Cheerio chums…
