Behind The Blog… featuring Megan from Triumphs & Tears

Triumphs And Tears

‘Top O’ The Mornin’ my fellow Cosmetic Cravers…

I seem to have developed one of these bizarre dislikes for using brand spanking new beauty goodies for the first time. Sounds weird right? *imagines a sea of confused head nodding* However after such a huuuge beauty blow-out over the weekend, my make-up collection is bunged full of gorgeous new treats that look so darn good in their freshly packaged appearance that it’s surprisingly painful dipping in for the first time! The flinching reaction of disturbing a perfectly new lippy or smudging a fresh eye shadow palette is just crazy. Am alone in this weird little phase or do the rest of y’all prefer jumping straight in to testing out your new purchases? *dramatic eye roll*

However chums, it’s time to get focused on today’s fun-filled post as I have thee stunning Megan Bayne gracing our virtual sofa of sassiness this morning. Megans blog, Triumphs and Tears, is her very own little online haven filled with lots of lifestyle features & personal updates, so if you adore meeting friendly new blog buddies to chat & interact with then you’ll undoubtedly adore keeping up with Megan.

You know the drill by now ladies: it’s time to grab that cuppa, rest your tootsies for ten & get to know the girl Behind The Blog

Megan Bayne

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Open honesty of daily happenings.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Well I have a friend, Nadine from Ladies and Lace, that has a blog and she absolutely loves it and I was eager to help her out with something that she has an absolute passion for. My mom found out and suggested I start my own blog, but mainly a lifestyle based blog because I am a tiny bit different from the average 18 year old. And like that, my blog was born.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blogs name is Triumphs and Tears. I decided on that name because life hands out many things. Some bring you to tears and some you triumph over. I have had many occasions where I have sobbed and many occasions where I have overcome things. So I thought it was rather fitting to be able to share those things with people, show that they aren’t alone.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes I do. Often I sit starring at the little flashing cursor and draw blanks all the time. In times like those, I choose not to write because I don’t want to write something half-heartedly and for that reason, I wait until something worth writing, something I am passionate about, comes to mind and then the words find their own place as I write.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Probably my post titled Family, Fun and Fatigue. Http:// It was rather fun and light hearted which I enjoyed writing. It also had a tiny education lesson that many can relate too. It was just an overall enjoyable piece.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Relaxed. I live in oversized hoodies and jerseys and leggings. Although, when I need too, I can get dolled up and make an effort to look good but generally, I’m always in oversized jerseys. Being home-schooled has it’s perks. 😀

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Essence, Essence and more Essence! I have to buy my own cosmetics so I go for good quality makeup with a reasonable price.

Essence Soft Touch Mousse 01 Matt Sand

Essence Matifying Compact Powder 02 Soft Beige

Brilliant Lash Mascara from Ralo. (I got this as a gift and it is magical.)

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I am a book worm. I read and read and read. Reading allows me to escape my world and join another one.  I throw myself into drawing and painting as well. It is incredibly cathartic.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

At home, in my fluffy pyjamas and a book or a movie. I am not one to go out and party into the wee hours of the morning, it doesn’t appeal to me.

What do you do to relax?

I read or go for a walk with my dog Domino. I like to keep to myself.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Mine would probably be me biting the skin around my nails when I’m anxious.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Probably the time my parents brought my dog home.  I could not have been a happier child.

What was your favourite school subject?

Well when I was in public school it was Art and English but now being home-schooled, it’s just English.

What’s your dream job?

To be a successful lawyer.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself studying at the Harvard extension college in the UK and building a life and a name for myself there.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Go for a trail ride on horse back again.

Travel to Italy.

Get my cosmetics degree.

As cliché as this is, I want to swim with dolphins.

Vacation away at a game reserve.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I am not entirely sure on how to answer this but probably the fact that I am excelling at the job I have and the relationships I have built and expanding on.

Who inspires you?

My mom. She is such an incredibly strong person and she has taught me so much. She has taught me how to be strong and independent and confident. The things and person I have developed into is someone like my mom and I have always wanted to be like her.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Never look down on someone unless you are helping them up.”

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I am fairly new to this so I would say that you should make sure that it is something you are passionate about and something that you can write about easily. Blogging for me is incredibly cathartic so it’s about passion and interest in the idea or theme of your blog. Something you can relate to.

  2. Lovely interview as always! It’s so great to get to know more about other bloggers. 🙂 Karen – I know what you mean about not wanting to use products right away. When I got my Tartelette palette I didn’t want to ruin it for the longest time lol. Also I always have to make sure I take good pictures of my beauty products before using them lol. #beautybloggerproblems XXXXX
