USPICY 48W UV/LED Nail Lamp: Unboxing & Review…

Regardless of whether you’re a well-seasoned pro, start-up nail tech or simply obsessed with a glossy gel polish; there’ll be one thing that’s top of your equipment ‘must have’ list – a fabulous nail lamp. But what to choose when there’s so much choice out there? Does affordability mean cutting quality or does sticking with the salon established names mean you’re paying over the odds? Does it have to be LED or UV? Is there room for an entire hand, and what about toes too? Is it able to travel well if you’re out on the road a lot? So many questions, and that’s just the tip of the Iceberg! *sigh*

Digging a little deeper into what (most) nail techs want from a lamp, and it’s no surprise to find out that my needs are exactly that as a majority of nail artists out there – a reliable, spacious, easy to use lamp that can cope with a wide range of gel products without taking up half of my desk and draining my bank account! Doesn’t seem an overly ambitious ask, right? However, over the last 9 months alone I’ve blazed my way through 3 lamps – all of which have turned out have more cons than pro’s when it comes to assessing my needs.

But could my curing woes be a thing of the past?

Cue the USpicy nail lamp… a 48W, sassy little lamp that fits neatly on my desk, looks smart and seems to tick all my shopping list requirements. In fact, it even has a bonus item of coming complete with its own little USB light which is perfect for any mobile nail tech, or notoriously badly lit area!

So this week’s upload is taking a peek at this fabulous little lamp that could just be the answer to our curing prayers… an affordable lamp that actually does the job! Grab a cuppa, nestle down, press play & find out for yourself…

How To: Chrome Powder Nail Tip (with a dash of sparkly holo)…

If you’re a nail tech, or even if you’re just obsessed with nails, you’ll probably be only too familiar with the chrome powder trend that’s been sweeping the nation over the past few months. Now while I’m not personally a huge fan of it on my own talons (it doesn’t seem to compliment my pink sausage like fingers) there’s no denying it does look impressive elsewhere… a hefty mix of futuristic meets chic.

Having invested in a few pots of powder, I’ve been playing around with it over a number of weeks – some clients love it some just aren’t so sure. However, for those that simply want a touch of chrome, this funky metallic nail design could be just what the nail tech ordered! And yes, it’s super easy peasy – no degrees in artistic nail studies required!!! *hooray*

So if you’re thinking of investing in some mirror powder or a little pot of chrome, then why not check out this week’s chatter as it may help sprinkle some design inspiration when creating a few eye-catching looks for yourself!

Is that the kettle I hear? 😉 Time to grab a coffee and get comfy… don’t forget, you can *click here* to subscribe to the Confetti & Curves YouTube channel so you never miss an upload!

Ooft, what a busy little bee I’ve been this week….

Keeping Up With Karen

What a week…

Between a potent concoction of hospital appointments, blood tests, running errands, organising Emma’s Halloween costume, school appointments etc. These days I’m sure I moan 70% more than I ever did before… not getting time squeezed in for filming, trying to lift my head of the pillow some days, whilst other days I’m ever so thankful that I’ve managed to get up and dressed. Sounds crazy right? Especially at the age of 34. But this last month seems to be this very scenario on repeat play – kind of like groundhog day but in a week-to-week format. If anything, this past month has taught me to be grateful for schedules AND the ability to stick to them… something I was always good at but not so much lately. Is that an excuse to buy myself an Erin Condren planner? Nah, didn’t think so gals, but maybe a Christmas treat to roll in 2017 – I guess I should start leaving hints for Santa sometime soon 😉

But as always, I love to get a little Sunday chatter in with you lot… and if you’re scrolling through the interwebs on the search for a few fun snippets whilst you sip your ‘Sunday mug of yumminess’ then why not check out a few of the links below? If you’re a blogger too, you’re welcome to leave a link to any blog posts you’d like me to check out – which reminds me Emma from Country Girl Em, I’m still to catch up with your previous weekly round-up so I’ll be sure to pop by today for a chatter 😀 Why not check out her blog for yourself too, it’s certainly a favourite of mine!

The Makeup Menu: Inside The No 7 Gift Box…

no-7-gift-box

Oooh erm, hello Tuesday…. it’s been a while since I slipped from my normal routine, however with what feels like half the house turned upside down from re-decorating at the moment, it’s no surprise that I’m thrown into domestic chaos – and so is the blogging routine until the paint brushes are fully packed away again *sigh*.

HOWEVER, enough waffle as I grab my cuppa and tell you guys all about the fabulous little No 7 gift box I received in-store as part of a promotion when treating myself to a few beauty goodies. It’s been sitting patiently on my beauty table for a number of weeks now, eagerly waiting to be opened. Time to take a peek inside…

AIRBRUSH AWAY PRIMER

dsc03576

“No7 Airbrush Away Primer for days when you want your skin to look flawless and your makeup to apply perfectly.

Pores and fine lines appear to disappear and wrinkles are put into soft focus leaving your skin perfectly smooth and even all day.

Contains hyaluronic acid moisture locking spheres to help soften the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin.”

Personally, I’m a huuuge fan of the No 7 primers and this is no exception. With its silky texture that doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily, Airbrush Away helps to smooth out imperfections allowing your foundation to appear slightly more airbrushed and flawless. It glides on like a dream and makes a considerable difference to keeping your makeup looking fresher for longer. Say goodbye to parting with unnecessary wads of cash for a decent primer, as for £16.50 this is definitely an affordable investment – and a little goes a loooong way ladies! It’s definitely worth the spend!

.

STAY PERFECT EYESHADOW in MATTE MOCHA

dsc03577

“No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow delivers high impact colour. Blends effortlessly and lasts for hours.

For even longer lasting results, use over No7 Stay perfect Eye Base and apply with the No7 eyeshadow brush.”

As many of you already know, I’m a bit of a magpie when it comes to eyeshadow – the more shimmer the better. If truth be told… if you take a peek into any of my palettes you’ll notice that the matte selections are barely touched, so needless to say I was a little sceptical when it came to imagining me falling head over heels for this particular formula. Okay, so it hasn’t got the glam of my beloved shimmer however this is a gorgeous shadow that truly deserves the praise. It may not be over dazzling in appearance but this beautiful warm grey is a gorgeous colour that works incredibly well with so many other tones (I’ve found it especially fabulous with plum tones!!) Just as I’d expected from No 7, it outlasted my expectations. I applied this at 10am and by 6:30pm it was still looking fresh and well. At £7 it’s not the most pocket-friendly of drug store options however its endurance makes the spend completely justified. Available in 22 individual shades or you can buy the trio’s – one thing I will say is that this particular shade (mocha) is a fantastic staple for anyone!

.

DRAMATIC LIFT MASCARA

dsc03579

“Inspired by haircare, No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara contains flexible polymers and Keratin to help boost lash from root to tip.

The curved brush helps to capture all lashes and push them upwards, No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara is proven to lift lashes by 70%.

Wand Style- A curved styling brush that fits perfectly in to the roots of the lashes to help lift each individual lash to create the ultimate wide awake look.

Finished Look- Lashes are lifted by 70% and are boosted from root to tip.”

Okay, this is where I tend to grumble a little. No doubt about it, at £13.50 it’s not the most expensive of mascara’s by a long shot however why-oh-why do I never see a dramatic difference in my lashes compared to some of the cheaper drugstore brands? In fact, one of my biggest disappointments in mascara has got to be from MAC – which certainly wasn’t priced for what it was worth. Yes, the No 7 Dramatic Lift is a nice mascara but unfortunately I didn’t see anything extraordinary about my lashes after application. One thing I did notice is that the mascara didn’t tend to flake like many of the cheaper alternatives too. On the whole, not enough drama for me however so I’ll still be sticking to my classic Max Factor False Lash Effect. Sorry No 7 *sob*

.

SHEER TEMPTATION LIPSTICK

dsc03581

“Colour glides easily over the lips, creating a shiny lipgloss effect without any stickiness.. Now we’ve added some gorgeous new bang-on-trend colours to the range, perfect for a subtle daytime look or more dramatic evening lips.

Enriched with natural waxes and Theobroma oil (which you’ll find in chocolate!) to care for your lips, and Maxilip to help hydrate the lips.”

Tucked inside the little box of goodies was a lipstick voucher for a Sheer Temptation Lipstick. I opted for the shade Caramel Kiss… which seems to be a bright pink on the website – yet nothing of the sort in reality! So as you can imagine by the name of the formula this is certainly not a heavy matte concoction, but instead, a beautiful lightweight lippy that feels incredibly nourishing and kind to your lips. There was no bizarre taste, no nasty stickiness – just a smooth & silky coating of lip colour that felt intensely hydrating to wear. Of course being a sheer lippy it doesn’t have overly lengthy staying power, though I managed to get about 2.5 hours out of it – which in my humble opinion isn’t anything to grumble about for something that feels so nourishing to wear. Okay, so you may have to reapply, but honestly gals, once you feel how soft this is on your lips you won’t have any hesitation to pampering your pout a second time round!

.

Final Thoughts…

dsc03571

No 7  continuously seem to impress me the more I dip into their product range. I started a number of months ago with their Beautifully Matte foundation and since then I’ve been hooked. Considering this was a freebie gift set that has a great range of goodies to suit everyone, I’d certainly recommend any makeup maven yet to try No 7 to pop into your local Boots store and give them a go. The staff have always been so incredibly helpful, so if you’re not sure what you’re looking for don’t worry as they’ll certainly keep you right without seeming pushy!

no7-collage-review

I love the final look and this is definitely a great range of staples I’ll enjoy using as part of my daily routine. Thanks No 7 – you’ve converted me once again to even more of your fantastic range!

Wow, what a week it’s been here at Confetti & Curves HQ! Firstly thank you all sooooooo so much for your kind congratulations and lovely messages in regards to my 2nd blogiversary. It’s been a fantastic journey so far and I’m hoping there’ll be many more blog birthdays down the road to celebrate. Also, a huge thanks to all who have participated and shared the exciting international giveaway I’m currently running – Win a Kat Von D Eyeshadow palette of your choice. If you haven’t already entered, never fear there’s plenty of time to get your name down as the competition closes at midnight (GMT) on 31 October! *yippee*

In other news, I’ve spent much of the weekend deliberating over various colours of paint to revamp the kitchen with. Here in N.Ireland, the kitchen is always the heart of the home, as it’s the one room we seem to spend most of our time in…. chatting, drinking tea, eating dins, discussing how our day went etc. So I’m eager to make it as cosy & fresh looking as possible. As much as I love neutral walls I’ve opted for a soft pistachio green; well, actually the colour is called French Vine but you get the idea gals 😉 The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the chaos that’ll be caused in my kitchen over the coming week – but hey, as long as the tea bags and kettle are accessible I’ll stifle my grumbles.

Talking of kettles, why don’t you flick the switch on yours, put your feet up for five mins and check out some of the shenanigans that’s been happening here on Confetti & Curves this week…

Seven Spooky Shadow Designs For Halloween…

seven-spooky-shadow-designs-for-halloween

It’s (almost) that time of year again… pumpkins, kids trick or treating, a ridiculous array of cheesy cackling ornaments lining the shelves of supermarkets. Yes, Halloween is certainly on the countdown radar for us all. However if like me, you’re hoarding a selection of eyeshadows that rarely see the light of day, then now’s the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and get creative as today I’m sharing some of the most interesting eye shadow designs created by a selection of makeup geniuses I found in & around the interwebs. Just to be perfectly clear chums, these are by no means my creations, but simply the outstanding work of fellow makeup addicts. So if you’re in the mood for vamping up your lids on fright night then look no further than these spooktacular concoctions…

.

1) Peek-a-boo

hw3

How cute & quirky is this fantastic kitty design by Tal Peleg? I adore the subtle green base, slender liner and simple illustration… and the teeny little paws finish it off purrrfectly.

.

2) Leopard Lid

hw5

Although I’m quite often found designing animal prints on nail art I’m yet to try it on my lids, thankfully this design is actually pretty simple to recreate so you don’t need to be a Picasso to master the craft. A gorgeous smokey shadow, vibrant inner lid & viola your base is done. I love the whispy lashes too – not too overdressed & lets the artwork speak for itself.

.

3) Nightmare Before Christmas

hw7

Who doesn’t love a dose of Jack Skellington? Even Mr Burton himself would be in awe of this gorgeous shadow art design brought to life by Kiki Makeup. Maybe a little over-ambitious for my skill set but I’d love to give it a go… not quite sure my patience & shaky hand would agree *sigh*

.

4) Harley Quin

hw1

It’s pretty safe to say that this year Halloween parties across the globe will be awash with Harley Quin costumes, however this animated inspired look is super eye catching & works a treat with the vibrant red brows and long playful lashes.

.

5) Cat Woman

hw2

Sticking with the Batman theme, I adore the pop of bold colours so brilliantly used in this fabulous Cat Woman inspired shadow design. That gorgeous blended purple & super sharp cat line is on fleek 😉 not to mention the stunning purple contact lens and feather lashes to create a dramatic look that’s bound to catch a few eyes!

.

6) Star Trail

hw8

It may not be the most colourful but I absolutely adore this fun star-trail design! It’s simply the perfect way to dress up your eyes without needing a masters degree in art & design!!! Better still, you can purchase temporary eye tattoo’s to achieve this look (and many others) without having to spend hours creating a mini galaxy… check out Anteatersink on Etsy for lots of great temporary eye tattoo designs!

.

7) Playful Kitty

hw7

Being a maaaahoosive cat fan I simply had to include this final awe-inspiring kitty design, complete with its own little ball of yarn and string. It’s adorable in every way – maybe not the easiest to recreate, nor the most stay-proof for an all night spook fest, but it’s utter genius none the less! Love it!

Howdy Chums…

Yippee, it’s the first Sunday of October – and you know what that means… autumn is officially here, AS is the countdown to ‘Trick or Treating’ too 😀 *dramatic cackle* When I was a little girl, Halloween was probably my favourite time of year. There was something so exciting about dressing up in ghoulish costumes and scaring yourself witless with local ghost stories etc. Now I tend to look forward to the fireworks, pumpkin carving and curling up with a DVD; namely Hocus Pocus, which never fails to amuse me – even into my 30’s! Are you a fan of Halloween, or like my hubby do you consider it just another day of the year? *eye roll*

As for today, well I’ve a few things on the agenda – firstly a huge mug of tea followed by a good read of my favourite glossy mag ‘Glamour’. It seems like forever since I’ve sat down and spent some time flicking through the pages, cooing over all the makeup goodies and reading the fun articles. I’m also hoping to get a little filming done as unfortunately my aches and pains put a ginormous scupper on my schedule this week – so keeping fingers crossed I gather up the energy for a beauty chatter today!
