My Top Ten ‘Must Read’ Posts For New Beauty Bloggers…

Must Read Posts For New Beauty Bloggers

One of the many reasons I adore blogging is constantly getting to meet new blog buddies – both experienced bloggers and completely new to the blogging community. However when you’re starting out, blogging can be a really daunting process – particularly hitting that ‘publish’ button for the first time. In fact if you’re anything like me it can rev up the anxiety levels and leave you in a state of ‘what the heck have I just done?’ and ‘Oh my gosh I hope nobody I KNOW reads this’ – don’t worry we’ve all been there and done it, am I right experienced bloggers?

So seeing as so many lovely new bloggers have taken the time to stop by Confetti & Curves to say hello I thought I’d share a few of my own ‘words of wisdom’ when it comes to blogging. After all it’s something that has personally helped me cope with anxiety and some really rough days – put your all into blogging and you’ll get so much in return as it really is a fantastic family to be a part off.

So grab your biggest cuppa and check over some of my personal top tips for new bloggers or those thinking of starting a blog anytime soon…

10 Things I’ve Learned About Beauty Blogging…

10 Things I've Learned About Beauty Blogging

There’s an old Chinese proverb which states ‘The journey of a thousand mile starts with a single step’. Isn’t it beautiful? These words have always rung true throughout the many journeys I’ve been on, some of them great and others not so much. But after stumbling across this little proverb over the weekend again it’s made me reflect back on a few journeys I’ve been through, am still going through & those yet to come. One of the most inspiring journey’s I’ve been on is blogging. Not only has it helped me manage my anxiety immensely, but the fun I’ve had and the friendships forged have been totally unforgettable. So with that in mind today’s post is simply a light hearted reflection on a few of the things I’ve learned since taking my first ‘virtual’ footstep with Confetti & Curves almost 3 years ago…

.

Hoarding becomes normality…

No, really it will. Say goodbye to your trusty little zip-up makeup bag and hello to a room dominated by skyscrapers of muji drawer sets and decorative Ikea plant pots crammed with makeup brushes. Of course that’s ONLY the cosmetics… your bathroom shelves, bedside cabinets, kitchen table and handbag will become a breeding ground for skincare, moisturisers, lip balms…

pink heart

There’s no such thing as free time…

If you’re a busy little blogging bee who hits the ‘publish’ button multiple times per week then the likely hood is that your free time is spent scrawling down post ideas, making mental notes of points to mention, scouring beauty magazines, responding to PR companies, replying to comments, attempting to keep up with social media, recharging your camera batteries, cursing the lack of natural daylight, typing into the early hours of the morning – oh, and juggling your job/life/kids/family commitments into the mix too 😉

pink heart

“But it’s for the Blog”…

Payday should be everyday when you’re a beauty blogger with a wish list as long as a fresh loo roll, but it aint, so funds needs to be juggled with care and the mightiest of resistance to splurge. However there’s always that delicious moment when birthday & Christmas rolls round and you’re handed cards filled with gift vouchers for your favourite beauty havens *happy sigh* In the mean time you’ll keep convincing yourself that every item you pop in your basket is all in the name of beauty blogging. What a selfless trooper you are! 😀

pink heart

Nothing gets used until your camera says so…

And I mean absolutely nothing. The thought of applying a fresh tube of lippie before it’s been photographed almost makes the eyeballs in your head roll back in horror. And heaven forbid an eye shadow pan gets disturbed or a new makeup tool gets used BEFORE it’s had a photo shoot.

pink heart

There’s no such thing as “Just popping in”…

Are you serious? When was the last time you actually ‘just popped in’ to any makeup store? When you’re a beauty blogger avoiding the makeup aisles is virtually impossible. We have miniature magnets entwined into our DNA that simply doesn’t permit us to casually dander past a wall of beauty goodies but instead be drawn helplessly towards them. We’re goin’ in and we ain’t coming back out until our forearms resemble a patchwork quilt of many many many colours.

pink heart

EVERTHING gets critiqued…

Even things your friends and family treat themselves too , you’ll more than likely find yourself saying “Ooh, very nice, but you really should try…” Oh yes, you become obsessed, not only with your own stash but also with the stash of others too. Not to mention the almighty moment of “YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS… No, really you HAVE to, I insist, in fact let’s go RIGHT NOW and buy it for you. Yes NOW!” You become delirious when you find a mascara that does what it promises or a drugstore lipstick that puts your favourite Mac to shame.

pink heart

The guilt, oh the guilt…

Oddly enough I had this very conversation with a blog buddy quite recently, when we were discussing the waves of quilt from the very thought of not posting. It’s remarkably amazing just how much effort goes into maintaining a blog, including sticking to a routine. Sadly many of us often get swamped into feeling pressured to fulfilling that day in day out. Remember, we’re only human, we need our blog breaks, holidays and time away to recharge our batteries. Blogging should be fun, breaking the guilt is tough but it has to be done to realise that there’s a life to live away from the laptop too.

pink heart

You’ll have an all year round need for fairy lights…

Your new slogan will be ‘fairylights aren’t just for Christmas..’ as you’ll soon discover that there’s an all round yearly requirement for obtaining that perfect background bokeh effect to woo the eyeballs of your readers with. Yes, your room will partially resemble Santa’s grotto 356 days of the year… 366 if it’s a leap year. Just saying.

pink heart

Lighting becomes your enemy …

Summer time is a blessing but winter is just a plain old pain in the virtual arse cheeks. With gloomy grey skies and sunlight disappearing faster than your patience cares to admit, you’ll possibly find yourself timing your photo shoots to day-light perfection as you huddle eagerly beside your biggest window… until you spend your entire savings on ring lamps powerful enough to flood light Wembley Stadium.

pink heart

You’ll become besties with people you’ve never met…

This is by far the best bit, the community spirit. When I started beauty blogging my misconceptions were that it would be a ferociously bitchy place full of ‘Makeup Experts’ just waiting to correct your every damn opinion. How wrong I was. In fact, it’s the total opposite. I’ve met people that will remain friends for the rest of my life, people who have built my confidence, encouraged me, supported me and even spent the time selflessly promoting my little corner of the interweb.  These are the people who lift you up on the crappiest of days, they’re the ones that make you feel  a very special part of one big cheery internet family. Thank you ❤

.

What have you learned from beauty blogging? Do you relate with anything mentioned? What’s been your favourite or most challenging thing about blogging? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by and say a quick howdy!

Wishing y’all a fab day ahead 🙂

Now when I think about it, I wish I had  a very creative one but it’s just my name which is rather boring!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes absolutely, It happens all the time. think it’s important to put out content that you believe in. Never put out anything because you have to or you’re under pressure to do so. I look to people, nature, magazines, websites, for inspiration always.

My blog is an art for me, it’s a visual medium so I try to make sure only content that I’m truly happy with makes it even if I’m a little late in delivering.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I enjoyed writing for all my travel posts, but the one that stands out for me has to be the Bicester Village one.

It was a rainy day but I managed to get some good pictures. Also, a little nostalgic as the Carluccio’s restaurant is no longer there and I have very fond memories of it and it’s luckily been captured in the post.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I’d say my style is feminine and fun. I love colour and fabrics and love to mix and match. I love wearing long flowy dresses, with accessories..  a little bohemian touch.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Lipstick, mascara and a concealer.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Watching tv with a good cup of coffee is a great relaxation for me. I also love listening to music too.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

If a good movie is out then def a visit to the cinema is a must! Otherwise I enjoy staying at home compared to going out. I love spending time with friends and family as everyone is always so busy during the weekdays and this is the only time we get to hang out with each other .

.

What do you do to relax?

As before, catching up on tv shows and reading is a great relaxation for me. I watch many re-runs of the cheesiest tv shows, such a guilty pleasure!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

In terms of beauty, I hoard a lot of makeup. I don’t wait till it’s finished and will end up buying more. So that’s a habit that I’m trying my best to change now.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

There are so many fond memories..! Hmm the one that comes to my mind is going to the farm with my parents and siblings when we were younger and picking strawberries. We used to go pretty much every weekend and I really miss those times.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I really enjoyed my English lessons, I had also written many poems in school and so my teacher got it published for me. It was only one book for school use but it was an achievement for me.

.

What’s your dream job?

I love travelling and photography. So maybe a travel photographer or an interior designer. I love the creative aspects of these jobs.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would just like to live a healthy happy life with near and dear ones.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

* I’m fascinated by stars, so walking under the stars on a beach

* to see the northern lights

* to watch the running of the bulls in Pamplona Spain

* to have a bonfire party

* to travel as much as I can

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Gosh, I think it’s yet to come

.

Who inspires you?

As cliched as it may sound, my inspiration comes from my parents first. I think any child looks up to their parents especially during their early life. Then, all those people who make such a positive change with their thoughts and actions inspire me greatly.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I love this quote by Rumi which is so uplifting ” Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure”.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

If there’s one thing that I have learnt, it is to be patient. A lot of people give up early. It takes time and effort for results to show. So keep working on good content and success will follow surely.

Connecting with fellow bloggers is key! Try to engage and communicate with likeminded people and it opens up the communications channels for you.

Most importantly be you!

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Tough one.. I love both!

Coke or Pepsi = neither (no fizzy drinks)

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Super organised

A New Arrival…

A New Arrival

On yesterday’s catch up post I mentioned I had a little surprise to share with you all pending a few special little photographs of our new arrival…

Maine Coon Kitten 1

Gals, I’d love to introduce you to little Borris, our 9 week old baby Maine Coone kitten. Cuteness overload *swoooon* Ohhh how this past weekend has been such a treat in so many ways… there’s been cooing, giggling and lots of cuddles as we welcomed him into his new forever home.

Maine Coon Kitten 3

Now as many of you know, I already have one gorgeous big boy at home, Gomez, who’s a rather handsome Tuxedo cat. After loosing his playmate Hector last year, Gomez went into a bit of a kitty depression for a while and mulled around looking very sorry for himself.

Gomez Kitten Gomez and Emma

(Gomez as a kitten & all grown up with his favourite human, Emma)

Considering that he has a few issues of his own to contend with we knew that introducing another adult kitty just wouldn’t work, and would stress him out even more than he already has been, so instead we decided to hunt for the perfect little companion that would be fun company for him and the purrrfect little addition for us too. *Apologies for the dreadful cat pun*

Maine Coon Kitten 5 Maine Coon Kitten 2

Little Boris is a Maine Coone which is one of the biggest domestic cat breeds. At 9 weeks old he’s already pretty sturdy for such a young’un. His mama had a gorgeous litter of 3, unfortunately though the little runt of the litter didn’t make it and died a few weeks ago. His little sister is still with mum as she’s very timid and dependant on her just yet but Boris is ready to take on the world – one paw at a time!

Maine Coon Kitten 4 Maine Coon Kitten 9

This little ball of fluff has kept us all entertained this weekend as he’s been climbing up our legs, the sofa, chairs and even attempting to scale the stairs at one stage – of course there was many miaows of protest when Emma disturbed him from his climb for a few cuddles.

Maine Coon Kitten 6

Needless to say he’s fitted in perfectly, so much better than we could have imagined. As predicted he’s a bit confused with Toby (our beagle) who’s beyond eager to make friends, however little Boris isn’t showing him the same love, but moreso returning the gestures with teeny hisses and a few paw swipes. Fiesty huh?

Maine Coon Kitten 10

All in all the house is pretty much loved up right now. Gomez is a little wary of his new play pal but over time I’m sure they’ll become the best of friends. Well, paws crossed on that one!

pink heart

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

(Gosh, this is hard!) Beauty, lifestyle and blogging tips. (Darn it, I was hoping to be a bit more creative than that…)

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Probably my friend Asha from Miss Asha Blog… when she showed me her blog I instantly wanted to start one and after a bit of fiddling around with WordPress, my blog was born. I also loved watching YouTube, and since I’m not really a natural in front of the camera, blogging was my next best option.

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I talked about this in a post once so I’ll just summarise it. When I was about 6 or 7 I went to my best friend’s house so we could watch this Barbie movie. I think it was called Barbie Princess Charm School. After watching it, my friend and I tried to balance a book on our heads like the princesses in the movie. I was horrible. But my friend (being the epic person she was) told me that I was her princess anyways, and for some reason the event stuck to me and I loved the sound of ‘Nearly A Princess’ so I made that my all around anonymous Internet handle.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I actually don’t! Am I weird? (I also never wet my toothbrush before brushing my teeth which is another way people can’t trust me.) I find that it’s best to have huge brainstorming sessions and always keep a notebook with you to write ideas down in.

.

What’s your favourite post to date? *please include link*

This is hard to answer. My favourite post to ever publish would have been my post announcing that I was writing an album (https://nearlyaprincess.wordpress.com/2016/02/07/want-to-help-me-write-an-album/), because, you know, it was a pretty big deal for me! But my favourite post that was a legit post (content wise, not announcements) is probably one of my posts 50 Open Ended Words To Give You Ideas (https://nearlyaprincess.wordpress.com/2016/01/17/50-open-ended-words-for-ideas/). I got a lot of traffic on it and everyone seemed to really enjoy it!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I tend to just wear really simplistic things like striped shirts and denim jeans, but I guess you could describe it as an urban girl look. I love to dress up and stuff, but for me I just love boots and t-shirts so urban is my main style.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

I’m currently loving:

Rimmel London Liquid Mousse Foundation

Numtrimetics Apple Fresh Toner

NIVEA Soft Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Check up on all of my notifications and leave some comments of other blogs. Then I repeat. The listen to music. Then I repeat. Can you tell that my iPad is my baby?

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

On Saturdays I go from Saturday sport (generally 8:30-9:30 am) to Saturday School (10am-12pm) and then to my triple threat class (1pm-4:30pm) and then I catch the train to Starbucks for a bit before heading home and making it home by about 5:30pm. Obviously that’s a big day (for me anyways) so I always just plonk myself in front of the TV with some warm milk and honey and binge watch all the shows I recorded throughout the day. I always sleep very well that night!

.

What do you do to relax?

Sometimes I stop by at a café that sells really nice Blue Heaven Milkshakes and then go window shopping along my favourite outlet street. Other times I just write blog posts on my iPad and watch a bunch of TV. It changes!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I know this is so unoriginal it’s not funny (I love being original, even in circumstances like this, my dad says I’m on the road to becoming a hipster, haha), but I am a HUGE procrastinator. Just now I’m crying in my own head because I didn’t do my Humanities homework and my teacher is going to kill me. Yay.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Oh goodness, how do I answer this? I guess my main childhood memory (I think it’s my earliest memory, to be honest) would be meeting my little brother for the first time when he was born. I was three at the time, and all I remember was holding him for the first time and Mum buying me lots of white Lindt Chocolate, which sparked my love of that particular kind.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I’m actually still in school, and my favourite subject is probably either Design or RE. I score really high in all of those subjects and I have some really great teachers. To be honest, having good teachers makes all the difference.

.

What’s your dream job?

I’d love to continue as a blogger, as I love doing something I’m good at (writing!) and I’ve met some amazing people. As my hobbies have faded in and out, I’ve never gotten sick of blogging and it definitely NEVER feels like work.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I don’t really know how to answer this question. I’ll be eighteen, so I would still be in high school and I’d just be studying for my IB exams (my dad is making me do IB, so doing the state exams, VCE, is out of the question). I guess I just can see myself working as hard as I can in every subject and getting some good marks. After that, I just want to do something that makes me happy… and of course, if I’m still blogging that would be awesome!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I have a bucket list with 50 things on it (I’ve currently completed seven… I think) so I’ll just pick my favourites. I really want to watch Dan and Phil live on their tour should they come to Australia, go to at least one live concert with Brendon Urie in it, one day become a backing dancer for a live concert (preferably with Brendon Urie in it, who are kidding here), go to GoodLife (can you tell I LOVE live performances?!) and to finish writing my album (and possibly write more in the future).

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Probably when I got accepted into something I really wanted to get into and was incredibly hard to do so. I was really nervous and was pretty sure I wasn’t going to make it but I did!

.

Who inspires you?

Probably Melanie Martinez and Halsey. I know that the stuff they sing about isn’t exactly something to aspire to (dying children and drugs… hmmm…) but I just love how they are so confident in what they are and how they want to express themselves and it’s made them famous and successful musical artists. Melanie Martinez also was very resilient as even after she lost The Voice she continued to make her own music and still did an amazing job. It just shows that you don’t have to be labelled as ‘the best’ to be one of the best.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Oh, it changes all the time! I think the main one (at the moment) would probably be either an actual ‘quote’- ‘be sure to taste your words before you spit them out’ by who knows what- or some song lyrics. The lyrics aren’t ‘inspirational’ as such, but more just cool and fun- ‘we could be immortals, but not for long’ or ‘you can set yourself on fire but you’re never gonna burn’- by Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco respectively.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

  • Start on WordPress.org! Seriously. I started on WordPress.com instead of WordPress.org and I kick myself for doing so, and now I can’t really move to WordPress.org, even though I really want to. If you start with WordPress.com, sure it’s free, but you are virtually owned by WordPress unless you pay the ‘oh so small’ fee of $130 a year. At least. If you gain a large fanbase on WordPress.com, then want to move to WordPress.org, it is so hard to direct all your followers over there and you lose a lot of readers. You cannot use any of your own custom designs, plug ins or any other form of personalization unless you either go to WordPress.org or pay the fee on WordPress.com (and even then, the options on paid WordPress.com is limited). JUST DO IT FOR THE SAKE OF EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL! XD
  • Find other blogs in your niche and reach out, whether you just comment regularly or do a collaboration etc. People are more likely to find your blog this way- no-one’s just going to ‘come and find you’. Soz.

.

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Beauty, reviews, skincare, tips and opinions

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started watching beauty YouTube videos a long time ago and I have always wanted to do something like that, but never had the confidence to start making videos. So I decided to create a blog instead and instantly loved it.

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Well, my actual blog address is ‘chloemartinn’ but I decided to keep it and give my blog a little nickname instead, which is ‘CNMbeauty’. I kept ‘chloemartinn’ as my address because that is my username on social media like Instagram and Twitter, so it just makes things easier.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes, I did suffer from it a couple of weeks ago but I keep a little list on my phone of potential posts I could do, so they always gets me back into it. Also, I always find that going on Instagram helps to motivate me and give me new ideas.

My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chloemartiinn/

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Most probably the post about ‘Hair-do and don’ts – Collab with Madison Reed’. This is because it was the first ever collab I did on my blog and it was so exciting!

https://chloemartinn.wordpress.com/2016/01/21/hair-do-and-donts-collab-with-madison-reed/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I love my Black Topshop Joni Jeans, so if you ever see me then I’ll probably be wearing those. Also, I like to switch up my shoes, from high boots to flats. I think my everyday clothes style would be simple, comfy but with a splash of colour!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Mac – New York Apple lipstick

Review on my blog-

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A big bar of chocolate, my duvet, the TV and maybe a few cuddles from my boyfriend.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Lots of food (especially Chinese!) and watching ‘Take Me Out’ on television.

.

What do you do to relax?

I like to have a nice bath or shower, do a face mask and paint my nails.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Mine is not too often but sometimes I get really lazy when it comes to taking off my makeup. Some days I love doing it but others I just don’t want to, and end up taking it all off with a makeup wipe (which I know is bad!)…

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

This is a hard one… but it probably has to be when my family got our first dog, which we still have! And we have another dog now too, oh and two cats!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Well, I am still in Sixth Form so I’ll tell you my favourite subject from GCSE and then my favourite from A-Levels. My favourite GCSE subject was either business or music, and for A-Levels I think it is English Language.

.

What’s your dream job?

I never know how to answer this question because I honestly don’t know. I’m not sure if I want to go to University yet or just start to get a job somewhere. It’s a tricky one!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully in a job that I enjoy, in a nice house and in a happy relationship J

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Skydive

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Have a beauty/makeup room in my house

Go to Pairs

Have a shopping spree in New York

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

When I was in year 11 I achieved my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, I wish I did silver and Gold but it is a lot to cope with, along with GCSE’s and Sixth Form.

.

Who inspires you?

Lots of people inspire me, when I started Sixth Form I made sure to surround myself with people that inspire me and support me. But if we are talking about who inspires me to do my blog then it would be people like Tanya Burr, Inthefrow and Niomi Smart.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I’m not really sure if it’s inspirational but my dad always says this to me – “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just be yourself, don’t be scared to create a blog, come up with a great blog username, have a good camera, find people who have similar blogs to yours and make new friends, I’m always around for a chat!

Monthly Favourites…

Monthly Favourites April

Every month I convince myself that I’m going to be super organised & keep a list of things I’m loving! Of course every month I fail. Miserably. The ironic thing is, is that I LOVE lists… in fact I quite often find myself sneaking things I’ve already done onto them, just for the satisfaction of ticking them off. After all, it seems a waste of a good chore not to tick it off, are you with me organised ladies? Anyways, the point is: every month I’m left foraging around my mental notes for things I know I’m loving and can’t wait to tell you guys about, but end up drawing a blank. However, low and behold this last few weeks I’ve managed to successfully keep tabs on a few little goodies I’ve been reaching for the most. So without further ado, here’s my monthly favourites for y’all to feast your eyes on…

Revlon Photoready Concealer – Light

Revlon Photoready Concealer

No monthly favourites would be complete without a standard makeup staple & this month I’ve been loving the Revlon Photoready Concealer. As opposed to some of the usual doe-foot liquid-applicator concealers I’ve used in the past, this one has the same format as a lippy – and honestly it’s sooooo much easier to apply. Granted, it’s a little thicker than most concealers but it’s done an awesome job of keeping the patches where my face drinks my foundation the most well covered and looking fresh for as long as possible. Big thumbs up from moi 😉

.

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Apart from being made and manufactured in good old Blighty, this is a fabulous cuticle oil. It’s not overly greasy like some I’ve used in the past and it hasn’t got a bizarre odour either. Although I’m a fan of savvy scents, this is a great happy medium for everyone as it’s not perfumed or infused with any kind of sweet/sickly smell. Just a great cuticle oil that’s been a life saver to saving the dire state of my own disastrous digits in these post winter months. Yaa hoo!

.

Rio Nail Art Pens – Neon Collection

Rio Nail Art Set

You gals know how much I love to dress up my nails with fun little nail art shenanigans, and although I’ve had this cute set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens for a few years now it quite often stays in hibernation until spring/summer when the colourful polishes come out of hibernation. This week I’ve been falling in love with polka dot nails all over again & these little pens are the perfect tool for dotting… OR stripping as they have alternative lids to meet all your nail art demands. Pretty cool huh?

.

Nail Stamping Kit

Nail Stamping Kit

Yep, I’m at it again… yet another nail art favourite. I just can’t seem to help myself this weather. But having created the most gorgeous little ombre animal nail prints, which you can check out for yourself by *Clicking Here* , I’m totally smitten with the endless possibilities this fabulous stamping kit has to offer! If you fancy taking a peak at it in action then *Click Here* to visit this weeks upload where you can see me demonstrating it in a fun how-to style video. Just don’t forget to hit that subscribe button while you’re over there 😉 hehe

.

Pearl Drops Hollywood Smile Teeth Whitener

Pearl Drops Ultimate Whitening

I’ve been hoarding this in my drawer for ages and finally it’s seen the light of day and got put to use a few weeks ago. I have to say I’m really beginning to notice a difference as my teeth are appearing a whole lot more shinier than before. Matching this up with my sensitive tooth paste, I now feel I’m well on my way to a much healthier looking smile 😀 Such an affordable and easy way to gently brighten and whiten your teeth!

So there you have it ladies, my top 5 monthly favourites. Have you tried any of the above? What have you been reaching for most often over April? Have you created a monthly favourite of your own you’d like us to check out? If so leave the link below – we’d love to take a peek! Don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below, thanks for stoppping by – wishing y’all a fabulous weekend!

Bubbles and Macaroons

Howdy beauty chums…

As per usual a big thanks to all who checked out yesterdays post: Nail Stamping Kit For Beginners! I have to say it’s always pretty weird filming from an angle that I’m not in view, as my hands seem to do most of the talking in this one 😀 Nevertheless you guys left some awesome comments! I do hope all you manicure addicts interested in cheering up the claws with some fun nail art give it a go. It’s such an affordable little kit, and one that’ll undoubtedly start a whole obsession with collecting exciting nail & stamping goodies. So if you haven’t checked it out then why not pop over and see just how easy peasy it is to dress up your digits 🙂

However, it’s time to prep the virtual sofa yet again as we welcome our second blogger of the week… it’s the gorgeous Tessa from Bubbles and Macaroons! How cute is that blog name? Apart from having as sweet a name as she is, Tessa is an avid beauty blogger and cosmetic craver who loves to fill our news feeds with fabulous news, reviews and great make-up looks to help inspire! .

What inspired you to start blogging?

At first, my blog was a project in my journalism studies. I am now in my second year and the lecturers encouraged us to start an online project in any medium with the thing you love the most. I always loved writing and make-up and fashion is my biggest passion. I took some beauty classes a couple of years ago, which explains my knowledge. Now, my blog has grown out to be my own place. Blogging really relaxes me, and I can write about the things I love the most.  I am inspired to work more everyday so it turns out into a professional blog!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Bubbles and macaroons, yes it looks a bit random, which it was at the time I created my blog! My blogname was literally something that popped into my head at the moment I was building my site. I just decided to roll with it. The only thing I knew was that I wanted something that featured two things so the “and” factor was a necessity. It also had to be English. I am actually a Belgian, so I speak Dutch in everyday life! I love to blog in English because it allows me more, and my network can be bigger than just Belgians and Dutchies. Right now, I actually like my name, ha ha!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I am lucky to have never experience Blogger’s Block before. I had writer’s block before (as a journalism student) but I never had it on my blog! I see a lot of things around me and then I think: “that should be a good post.” Tips for posts I use are looking into the seasons. What events are happening right now? What does the season require? Usually something pops up then. Another way to overcome it is to read magazines like Elle or Vogue, or watch some YouTube videos. Pinterest helps as well.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

That’s a really hard question! I had fun creating every single post that is up on my blog right now, so it is hard to choose. I guess I’ll have to go with my carnival make-up post. There were no borders creating the look since it was carnival. Creativity was the main focus in that post! You can check it out here: https://tessadewolf.wordpress.com/2016/02/12/my-carnival-make-up/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I would have to go with preppy college student. I love this style so much and when in store, I tend to reach for preppy clothing the most. I have other things as well, but mostly this style. It makes me feel confident, classy and successful. And you know what they say: a well-dressed woman is a successful woman! Oh well, everything can help, right?

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My absolute number one is the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I take it with me to the student house, on holidays, friends,… I love the shades and you can use the palette for any occasion! Number 2 would have to be the Yves Saint Laurent Touche éclat foundation. It is such a healthy looking foundation and it looks so natural. I use the smallest pump possible and distribute it all over my face to freshen up my complexion. Number 3 is the Maybelline Brow Drama brow gel. I cannot go without filling in my eyebrows and with this product you are ready in 10 seconds! The product lasts forever as well.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to take a long hot shower and then watch some Netflix in bed. Netflix is essential in my life!

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Since I go out with my friends on Friday night, Saturday is usually a stay-in evening. I study late, because I am a perfectionist, and after that, my parents and I go out for some delicious food and watching tv together, while my dearest friend Sammie (the cat) sleeps in between us.

.

What do you do to relax?

Same thing as I said above, Netflix is my life guys, it literally is. Ha ha! Who’s with me?

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I have the bad habit of staying up wayyyy too late and then waking up wayyyy too late in the morning. I just can’t get myself in bed before 11:30. In the morning it is same but the other way around. I just sleep too long. My rhythm is just totally confused! (Let’s blame it on the student life). I tend to make any appointments I need to go to in the morning, so I have to wake up early, like I have to for morning classes at college.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

That’s a hard one, because I had a very nice childhood, so it is hard to pick just one. Maybe I pick the first time I went to Disneyland. I was about nine years old and we were already on a vacation in France where I made some friends, we played on the beach and had the best time. When my parents dropped the bomb that we were going to Disneyland, my summer couldn’t go wrong!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I really liked history. At college I still have a lot of history, since journalists need to know what is happening and happened around the world. I love the stories and most of the times, I try to imagine what it was like to live in that specific period.

.

What’s your dream job?

I would love to be a successful journalist at a womens’ magazine like Vogue or Elle. Then I would be doing the things I love the most as a job! Writing, taking pictures and talking about beauty and fashion.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Ideal, I would have successful job and met the love of my life. More realistic, I hope to still work at a nice place and have my own apartment or something!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Traveling, a lot!

Visit Thailand

Visit Dubai

Go to the ABC islands

A roadtrip through America

Start my own beauty and fashion magazine

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I would have to go with passing my first year in journalism college without any retests. Here in Belgium, it is very common to have so, so I was very proud to pass without them!

.

Who inspires you?

I am much inspired by a lot of beautyguru’s on Youtube. They inspired me to start this blog as well!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I do not really have a favourite, mostly “positive and get things done”-quotes are my favourites!

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Do not overthink. Just do what you like and see your blog as your own personal space where you can put your own thoughts. If somebody doesn’t like it, well then just click the close button. Your blog is your space in the first place, so you should be your number one fan and be proud of it. That’s my golden rule!

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Coffee for the win!

Coke or Pepsi = Definitely Coke

Messy mayhem or Super Organised =Super organised

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = Cute kitten (crazy catloveralert!)

Night In or Night Out = Night out! You are just one time in young in your life, right?

Makeup Revolution Iconic 2: Metallic Eyes…

Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Eye Shadow Palette

I’m in love. Sounds a bit over dramatic when it comes to eye shadow, huh?

Of course this past number of weeks I’ve been so wrapped up in pastels & pinks that I’ve almost managed to forget how beautiful a metallic semi-smokey eye really is… and how damn wearable whether it be day, night, summer or winter. Although I’m often intimidated by bold shades of lippy, a dramatic eye never fazes me. In fact, the bolder the better is quite often my motto when it comes to dressing up my lids. So this weekend I waved a dismissive hand to pastels and said hello to mesmerising metallic’s; all thanks to the pocket friendly Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 palette & it’s array of show-stopping shades…

MUR Redemption Iconic 2

Okay so the title may be a tad grammatically dramatic but it’s certainly in keeping with the pigmentation that’s simmering below the lid. But let’s start at the beginning gals = price. Everyone knows I LOVE a bargain, and what could be better than parting ways with a mere £4 for a medley of twelve cool toned shadows? For just short of fiver, Makeup Revolution have managed to create what I’d consider to be the closest dupe to the Naked 2 I’ve yet to sample. Crazy, huh?

MUR Redemption Iconic 2 palette

DSC02549

DSC02528

In fact, the pigmentation is so good it makes me question if high end offerings are indeed overpriced and over-rated in comparison. Are we unnecessarily paying an arm and a leg just for fancy schmancy packaging? Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE my pricier palettes, but for anyone who hasn’t yet invested in any I’d be pretty quick to recommend the Makeup Revolution as a worthy alternative equivalent.

Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Palette Review

Taking a quick peek at the shade selection, it’s a sassy range of cool matte & shimmering metallic tones that will undoubtedly work well with pretty much any complexion. One thing I will say is that the lighter matte shades are slightly disappointing compared to the rest of the colours. The highlighter & base tones pale into insignificance against the mighty pop of the bold metal tones which are even more impressive if you decide to use them with a slightly dampened brush = a semi foiled finish that’s utterly multifaceted *swoon* The colour literally lights up the lid *more swooning* Check out a close up of the scrummy copper coloured look I created this weekend…

Copper and Gold Metalic Eye Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Palette

Of course any cosmetic craver will more than likely agree that when you find something so damn fabulous in (almost) every way you can’t help but insist anyone with a pulse NEEDS to have it in their life. But what’s not to love? The pricing, pigmentation & consistency are all clear winners. Okay, so the outer casing is a tad uninspiring but I’d much rather have quality on the inside than pretty packaging containing shadows that pack as much colour punch as self-raising flour *sigh*

.

The finished look…

Smokey Copper Eye Look  DSC02513

So if there’s any pocket friendly treat you’re putting on your ‘pay day me spree’ this month make it the Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 palette. Your bank account & eyes will love you for it ❤
