The ‘Starting Over’ Tag…

The Starting Over Tag

Top O’ the morning Beauty Buddies…

(I bet you’ve read that in a cheery Irish accent, right? *grins*)

It’s Friiiiiiiday *happy dance* and of course it’s not just any old weekend – it’s Valentines weekend ❤ Whether you’re single & ready to mingle or perfectly paired, I wish you all a loved up few days ahead whatever your plans are. I’m off tomorrow night for a VIP showing *ooo err* of the much talked about 50 Shades of Grey movie. I’ll not need any blusher that’s for sure!! Of course with the leading actor (Mr Jamie Dornan) hailing from only a few miles up the road, it’d be rude not to go and support the locals… agreed ladies? 😉

However onto today’s exciting post… I’ve been tagged by the lovely Katie over at Plus+ Beauty to take part in the rather fun and slightly stress inducing Starting Over TAG.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, here’s what it’s all about…

Starting Over Tag

Oddly enough I mentioned to Katie yesterday that this would be a walk in the park for me – HOW WRONG I WAS!! Finally, after much deliberating, I thought I’d stick to my tried and tested drug-store favourites… okay there’s maybe a few luxury items thrown in; just for good measure of course!

Here’s my top 16 ‘Start Over’ picks…

1) Real Techniques ‘Nic’s Picks’ Brush Set

Real Techniques NICS PICKS

Luckily my hubby has a super sharp memory! After dropping a few hints his way throughout the year I was chuffed to rip open one of my Christmas pressies to find this gorgeous set of brushes staring right back at me… my only gripe being; why haven’t I took ownership of these sooner? They’re every bit as good as the top reviews, I love them!

2) Garnier Micellar Water

Garnier Micellar Water

I must admit, the first few weeks of trying this I was really sitting on the fence – after reading such amazing reviews I felt like a bit of a deflated balloon particularly over the lack of smell… what can I say, I love a great scent! However one month on and I was hooked as a bottle of this wonder water sits beside my bed at all times. It’s incredibly refreshing and does an amazing job at removing even the most stubborn of make-up. If you haven’t tried it for yourself yet get out and grab a bottle… you’ll not regret it!

3) Olay Gentle Refreshing Toner

Olay-Gentle-Refreshing-Toner-

This is a staple in my nightly make-up strip off. Not only does is smell indescribably beautiful, it pulls every last bit of grime out of my pores with minimal effort. You only need the teeniest drop of this toner to make an big impact, so the bottle will last for ages. If you haven’t checked out my Beginners Night-Time Skin Care Routine post, then do pop over to read about a few of my favourite skin care products – it’s perfect for routine newbies!

4) Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer

Rimmel Fix & Perfect

Okay, I admit, primers are completely new ground for me as they’re not something I used before stumbling across the Rimmel Fix & Perfect. However this works wonders for helping my favourite foundation looking fresh and dewy all day long. No more dry patches for this gal; and for under a fiver you cannot go wrong. A great primer really does make a lasting difference.

5) Rimmel Lasting Finish 25Hr Foundation

Rimmel-lasting-finish-25hr_product

Without a shadow of a doubt the best foundation I’ve ever wore. If (like me) you adore full & even coverage that lasts well beyond your energy levels then look no further. Better still, check out my recent review *click here* as I rave about how blooming marvellous this little bottle of make-up magic really is.

6) Urban Decay Eye Primer

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer

Whatever eye-shadow palette I’m using, Urban Decay Eye-Shadow Primer Potion never fails to let me down. It puts a halt on creasing and stops premature fading by leaving your lids looking luscious all day (& night) long. Okay, its a little pricier that drug store alternatives but I promise you a tiny amount goes a looooong way.

7) Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

too-faced-mascara

Have you seen the before and afters? This is one heck of an eyelash enhancer in such a cute little tube. It doesn’t leave you with huge clumps of dried up mascara but instead lengthens and separates your lashes. It’s the next best thing to wearing falsies.

8) Revlon Creme Gloss

Revlon Creme Gloss

Okay, it might be a little tackier than I like a lip gloss to be, but this perfect-pout product really does last the duration. In fact I wore it last night to Emma’s school performance – applied at 5pm and by 9pm it was still going strong, which isn’t bad for a gloss! I adore the twist action release and the colour is perfect for my paler than pale complexion. The only issue being is that it’s pretty hard to get hold off now  *sob*

9) MUA Bronzer

MUA Bronzer

Even though this is one of the most inexpensive bronzers I’ve purchased, it’s one of the very few that consistently holds it’s tone and contour throughout the day… proving that you really don’t need to spend a fortune on high end products to get great make-up that lasts.

10) Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette

Naked 1 Palette

Okay, contradicting my last comment about spending a fortune (or at least a small one) I’ve been obsessed with the Urban Decay Naked range since my ever-so-generous hubby bought me both 1 & 3 for Christmas. I know, he’s a good’un! You can imagine my shrills of joy (that put my 9 year old to shame) when I ripped open the luxurious gold wrapping paper to be confronted with not one but two of these eye-mazing palettes. They really are worth every the extra splurge!

11) Naked 3

Naked 3 Palette

I know, I know – I’m being greedy now! Sorry, it had to be done… it’s just so darn beautiful!

12) Collection Lip Butter

Collection Lip Butter

Have you tried these yet? If not, you’re missing out. I bought the Vintage Rose shade late last year and since then have fell head over heels for this creamy lip treat. Not only is the colour range incredibly beautiful but they’re super moisturising too!

13) Rimmel Stay Blushed – Pop of Pink

Rimmel-stay-blushed_pop of pink

I’m not normally a fan of pink blusher but after buying this little tube of goodness I was seriously impressed with how a tiny dab on the apples of my cheeks really brightens up & compliments my complexion. It leaves me looking radiant, dewy and is the perfect rescue remedy for a refreshing look throughout the day!

14) MUA Eyebrow pencil

muastore_eyebrow-pencil-brunette

Again another budget buy from MUA, however it’s one of the few pencils that really works well with my eyebrow shade… and I love the little brush. One of the best I’ve tried for taming & shaping my brows!

15) MUA Liquid Liner

MUA Liquid Liner

I confess ladies – I’m a liquid liner addict. Thankfully it’s something I tend to be rather good at! Clearly years of practice in my teens has paid off; even if I did resemble Alice Cooper at one stage. Of all the brands I’ve tried and tested (for me) this is the ultimate product for creating effective eye-liner flicks. The brush tip is short, stiff and very well tapered which makes it super easy to control. Give it a go – for a few quid you’ll not regret it!

16) Miss Sporty Eye Liner

10110185

Oddly enough my interest in eye-liner pencils has dwindled over the last few years, however my make-up bag wouldn’t be complete without one. For me one of the best buys is the Miss Sporty liner pencil. It’s a soft kohl which allows it to glide on with ease and is really buildable for a strong statement look. Great price, great staple product!

So there you have it, my top sixteen ‘Start Over’ essentials. I think I’ve managed to squeeeeze in as many of my everyday make-up must haves as I possibly could. It wasn’t an easy task girls, there was a lot of head scratching, wincing and groaning over this one but none the less it was a super fun tag and thanks again to the gorgeous Katie for my nomination!

Time to pass on the gauntlet…

  1. Have so much fun at the 50 Shades Of Grey! I’ve seen quite a few previews on tv for it. I love? Love, love the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. (I bought 2 of them :)) the Naked 1 and 3 I own and are great palettes! Palettes are the best and come in handy! Too many makeup items a girl can have. No! 🙂 xo

  2. It is so difficult isn’t it? You think it will be easy but I ended up running back and forth with products mumbling ‘but I need this as well…’ Great choices though, I think this says a lot about anyone.
Let me know what the movie was like! I love Jamie Dornan, but I am having trouble adjusting to the clean shaven look 🙂

    • lol – that was exactly me Anne… the contents of my make-up case were strewn over the bed in a state of despair! Can you imagine if we had to whittle it down to 5?!?! Oh the pressure! I felt like the Bear Grylls of Boots yesterday lol
Will do, hoping it’s good – I guess I’ll find out soon! Jamie seems lovely, funnily I prefer the clean shaven on him, which is odd as I’m normally a facial hair lover on most men! Have a super weekend chum 😀 X

      • Total panic and chaos! Five would have been utterly impossible… like the bear grylls analogy 🙂
Oh, hmm. I guess I just really liked him in the Fall and I am having some trouble adjusting. Enjoy your weekend 😀

      • OooOooOooh – I like the sound of that… shame about season two though – hate it when that happens *grrr* Do you watch The Following by any chance – if you like serial killer things I think you might like it too… and James Purefoy isn’t hard on the eyes either 😉 x

        Liked by 1 person

      • Oh he is definitely on the list of attractive killers 😉 I only managed to see season 1 so far, which I liked although the plotlines were a bit much sometimes. Have you seen season2?

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yes, seen season 2 and loved it Anne 😀 I will say I’m very new to this type of TV drama so I don’t really have much to compare it too – but I loved it, can’t wait for season 3 *woo hoo* loling at your ‘attractive killers’ list 😀 Xo

      • Haha, the Bear Grylls of Boots…love it! I can’t imagine how I would react if all of my beauty products suddenly disappeared, but it would NOT be pretty (and neither would I! eeep!) 😉

      • HA! Not a breeze…more of a hurricane of horror!! Though I suppose losing all my products would give me a valid excuse to buy everything in sight at Sephora. But the 16 product thing…oh man. Just for fun maybe I’ll count how many products I actually use in the course of a day!

        Liked by 1 person

      • Good idea – it actually really makes you aware of how many things you use every day… I honestly thought it would be easy, not realising the lotions and potions I go through!!! Haaaa Hurricane of Horror indeed lol XX

  5. I totally read that in an Irish accent. Haha. Ohh you must tell me how 50 Shades was. Super awkward and weird or sexy. Lol. I am curious. I haven’t tried that cleansing water yet but am curious how it does! I have heard MUA makeup is great!

    • I think it’s on offer for £3 in Superdrug at the moment Jo, so if you’re passing by a store and have some change grab a bottle – great value 🙂 Hope you like it & thanks for stopping by huni Xo

  6. I loved reading this! Thank you so much for participating. It was a fun and a little bit of a challenging tag though wasn’t it? You might have made my shopping list a little bit longer with this one too lol. Now I am interested in that Olay Gentle Refreshing Toner as I recently purchased a face wash by them. Not too mention that Rimmel foundation…I have been wanting to try that too lol. Of course I still would love to have all 3 of the Naked palettes but I think my goal will be to get the Naked 2 one first because I love cool tones. I hope you have a great weekend and a great Valentine’s Day!! ❤ 🙂 Xoxo

    • Katie it was sooooo much fun – however you were right about how hard it is to narrow down the choices!!! lol I literally just had to go with basics wand work my way up lol Oh do try the toner – for just the smell alone, it’s gorgeous, but really great at doing its yukky job of banishing skin nasties!! My heart is firmly set on the Naked 2 as well Katie – like you I adore those tones!! Here we are still mentally spending a blooming fortune lol Same to you chum – hope you and Ron have a lovely time together 🙂 X

      • I am glad that you enjoyed it so much! I am going to pick up that toner when I get the chance to for sure. I probably spend way to much money on makeup anyway in general lol. Thank you so much! I hope you and Steve have a nice time too!! 🙂 X

      • Love it Katie – thank you again for tagging me, it was fab!!! Yes, do indeed – it’s Just under £3 here (which is about $4 – possibly less) so it’s really affordable and lasts for ages… I’m trying to limit my spending to drugstore only this weather. I think I’ve had enough high end treats – bargain finds from here on in lol Thanks so much huni, I’ll let you know how the weekend went in my next catch up novel haha 🙂 Xo

  8. I loved reading this tag, Karen! Your holy grail products all sound amazing! I am so in love with the Naked palettes. I really wish they were available here. There is no doubt that I would be able to justify the spoil of buying myself those three stunning palettes. 😀
Jamie Dornan is gorgeous! What did you think of the film? xx

    Liked by 1 person

    • Awh thanks so much chum 🙂 I’m so glad you like them – that is SUCH a shame you can’t get the UD palettes over in SA!!! Honestly you’d adore them Nadine 🙂 Oh do you like Jamie? He seems lovely and looked amazing in the film in certain scenes hehe 😉 Overall I wasn’t hugely impressed with it unfortunately 😦 The chemistry wasn’t there and it just didn’t flow very well for me either, wasn’t convinced it was directed well and the script writing was questionable. I must admit the books weren’t greatly written but I had hope the film would salvage it – it didn’t 😦 However had a great night out!!!! Xo

      Liked by 1 person

      • Jamie Dornan is a beautiful man. :’)
I also had hope that the film would salvage the books. I got past 200 pages on the first book and couldn’t get any further. It was quite boring ans it seemed like there were pieces which were just in it to take up space. I never did finish any of the books. That’s quite disappointing. It was so anticipated. Haha admittedly, I also got irritated by the characters while reading the book. I am glad you had a lovely evening out though! 😀 xx

        Liked by 1 person

      • I totally get what you mean Nadine… I battled on through all 3 books, and it didn’t really improve. (loling at you getting irritated at the characters haha) I thought the story line had good potential – it was just how poorly it was written/edited!
Absolutely, there was soooo much hype built around the film – maybe I have high expectations but it just didn’t work out for me unfortunately 😦 *sigh* X

        Liked by 1 person

      • I also noticed quite a few mistakes in the book. Hahaha I get very easily irritated with characters in shows and books and I particularly got irritated with Anastasia for how easily she just accepted everything he said and did no matter how much of a selfish idiot he was being. :’D The storyline did have potential. Honestly, though, I didn’t understand why everyone was raving on about how good the books were after attempting it myself.
Maybe our high expectations were the problem, Karen. :’D xx

        Liked by 1 person

      • We’re clearly literary connoisseurs Nadine that have very little time for all this shenanigans lol How refined!!! hehe 😀 I completely understand, it seemed a little unrealistic!! I’m not sure why it got the hype it did – even the film was a let down in that department! I was hoping good scriptwriters would salvage the plot but no go 😦 x

        Liked by 1 person

      • Hahaha definitely, Karen. 😉 I like the idea of being a literary connoisseur. 😀
Oh well, I suppose it was sort of the first of its kind. It probably got so much hype because it was daring, different and unexpected. What’s new has a way of making people curious. Maybe that’s why E.L James won in that department. I hope you are having a stunning Tuesday, Karen! 😀 xx

        Liked by 1 person

      • lol Me too Nadine 😀 I think you’re spot on… it wasn’t something I would have ever read until a friend recommended I try it out! What’s new is always a curiosity eh?! Have a super day too lovely ❤ Xo xo

        Liked by 1 person

      • I also tried it because friends of mine were carrying on about how good it is. :’D Hahaha next time I know to give what they suggest so chronically a miss. 😉 xx
