Monthly Favourites…

Monthly Favourites April

Every month I convince myself that I’m going to be super organised & keep a list of things I’m loving! Of course every month I fail. Miserably. The ironic thing is, is that I LOVE lists… in fact I quite often find myself sneaking things I’ve already done onto them, just for the satisfaction of ticking them off. After all, it seems a waste of a good chore not to tick it off, are you with me organised ladies? Anyways, the point is: every month I’m left foraging around my mental notes for things I know I’m loving and can’t wait to tell you guys about, but end up drawing a blank. However, low and behold this last few weeks I’ve managed to successfully keep tabs on a few little goodies I’ve been reaching for the most. So without further ado, here’s my monthly favourites for y’all to feast your eyes on…

Revlon Photoready Concealer – Light

Revlon Photoready Concealer

No monthly favourites would be complete without a standard makeup staple & this month I’ve been loving the Revlon Photoready Concealer. As opposed to some of the usual doe-foot liquid-applicator concealers I’ve used in the past, this one has the same format as a lippy – and honestly it’s sooooo much easier to apply. Granted, it’s a little thicker than most concealers but it’s done an awesome job of keeping the patches where my face drinks my foundation the most well covered and looking fresh for as long as possible. Big thumbs up from moi 😉

.

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Apart from being made and manufactured in good old Blighty, this is a fabulous cuticle oil. It’s not overly greasy like some I’ve used in the past and it hasn’t got a bizarre odour either. Although I’m a fan of savvy scents, this is a great happy medium for everyone as it’s not perfumed or infused with any kind of sweet/sickly smell. Just a great cuticle oil that’s been a life saver to saving the dire state of my own disastrous digits in these post winter months. Yaa hoo!

.

Rio Nail Art Pens – Neon Collection

Rio Nail Art Set

You gals know how much I love to dress up my nails with fun little nail art shenanigans, and although I’ve had this cute set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens for a few years now it quite often stays in hibernation until spring/summer when the colourful polishes come out of hibernation. This week I’ve been falling in love with polka dot nails all over again & these little pens are the perfect tool for dotting… OR stripping as they have alternative lids to meet all your nail art demands. Pretty cool huh?

.

Nail Stamping Kit

Nail Stamping Kit

Yep, I’m at it again… yet another nail art favourite. I just can’t seem to help myself this weather. But having created the most gorgeous little ombre animal nail prints, which you can check out for yourself by *Clicking Here* , I’m totally smitten with the endless possibilities this fabulous stamping kit has to offer! If you fancy taking a peak at it in action then *Click Here* to visit this weeks upload where you can see me demonstrating it in a fun how-to style video. Just don’t forget to hit that subscribe button while you’re over there 😉 hehe

.

Pearl Drops Hollywood Smile Teeth Whitener

Pearl Drops Ultimate Whitening

I’ve been hoarding this in my drawer for ages and finally it’s seen the light of day and got put to use a few weeks ago. I have to say I’m really beginning to notice a difference as my teeth are appearing a whole lot more shinier than before. Matching this up with my sensitive tooth paste, I now feel I’m well on my way to a much healthier looking smile 😀 Such an affordable and easy way to gently brighten and whiten your teeth!

Bubbles and Macaroons

Howdy beauty chums…

As per usual a big thanks to all who checked out yesterdays post: Nail Stamping Kit For Beginners! I have to say it’s always pretty weird filming from an angle that I’m not in view, as my hands seem to do most of the talking in this one 😀 Nevertheless you guys left some awesome comments! I do hope all you manicure addicts interested in cheering up the claws with some fun nail art give it a go. It’s such an affordable little kit, and one that’ll undoubtedly start a whole obsession with collecting exciting nail & stamping goodies. So if you haven’t checked it out then why not pop over and see just how easy peasy it is to dress up your digits 🙂

However, it’s time to prep the virtual sofa yet again as we welcome our second blogger of the week… it’s the gorgeous Tessa from Bubbles and Macaroons! How cute is that blog name? Tessa Bubbles and Macaroons

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Readers can expect beauty looks, reviews, tips, inspiration and fun!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

At first, my blog was a project in my journalism studies. I am now in my second year and the lecturers encouraged us to start an online project in any medium with the thing you love the most. I always loved writing and make-up and fashion is my biggest passion. I took some beauty classes a couple of years ago, which explains my knowledge. Now, my blog has grown out to be my own place. Blogging really relaxes me, and I can write about the things I love the most.  I am inspired to work more everyday so it turns out into a professional blog!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Bubbles and macaroons, yes it looks a bit random, which it was at the time I created my blog! My blogname was literally something that popped into my head at the moment I was building my site. I just decided to roll with it. The only thing I knew was that I wanted something that featured two things so the “and” factor was a necessity. It also had to be English. I am actually a Belgian, so I speak Dutch in everyday life! I love to blog in English because it allows me more, and my network can be bigger than just Belgians and Dutchies. Right now, I actually like my name, ha ha!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I am lucky to have never experience Blogger’s Block before. I had writer’s block before (as a journalism student) but I never had it on my blog! I see a lot of things around me and then I think: “that should be a good post.” Tips for posts I use are looking into the seasons. What events are happening right now? What does the season require? Usually something pops up then. Another way to overcome it is to read magazines like Elle or Vogue, or watch some YouTube videos. Pinterest helps as well.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

That’s a really hard question! I had fun creating every single post that is up on my blog right now, so it is hard to choose. I guess I’ll have to go with my carnival make-up post. There were no borders creating the look since it was carnival. Creativity was the main focus in that post! You can check it out here: https://tessadewolf.wordpress.com/2016/02/12/my-carnival-make-up/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I would have to go with preppy college student. I love this style so much and when in store, I tend to reach for preppy clothing the most. I have other things as well, but mostly this style. It makes me feel confident, classy and successful. And you know what they say: a well-dressed woman is a successful woman! Oh well, everything can help, right?

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My absolute number one is the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. I take it with me to the student house, on holidays, friends,… I love the shades and you can use the palette for any occasion! Number 2 would have to be the Yves Saint Laurent Touche éclat foundation. It is such a healthy looking foundation and it looks so natural. I use the smallest pump possible and distribute it all over my face to freshen up my complexion. Number 3 is the Maybelline Brow Drama brow gel. I cannot go without filling in my eyebrows and with this product you are ready in 10 seconds! The product lasts forever as well.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to take a long hot shower and then watch some Netflix in bed. Netflix is essential in my life!

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Since I go out with my friends on Friday night, Saturday is usually a stay-in evening. I study late, because I am a perfectionist, and after that, my parents and I go out for some delicious food and watching tv together, while my dearest friend Sammie (the cat) sleeps in between us.

.

What do you do to relax?

Same thing as I said above, Netflix is my life guys, it literally is. Ha ha! Who’s with me?

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I have the bad habit of staying up wayyyy too late and then waking up wayyyy too late in the morning. I just can’t get myself in bed before 11:30. In the morning it is same but the other way around. I just sleep too long. My rhythm is just totally confused! (Let’s blame it on the student life). I tend to make any appointments I need to go to in the morning, so I have to wake up early, like I have to for morning classes at college.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

That’s a hard one, because I had a very nice childhood, so it is hard to pick just one. Maybe I pick the first time I went to Disneyland. I was about nine years old and we were already on a vacation in France where I made some friends, we played on the beach and had the best time. When my parents dropped the bomb that we were going to Disneyland, my summer couldn’t go wrong!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I really liked history. At college I still have a lot of history, since journalists need to know what is happening and happened around the world. I love the stories and most of the times, I try to imagine what it was like to live in that specific period.

.

What’s your dream job?

I would love to be a successful journalist at a womens’ magazine like Vogue or Elle. Then I would be doing the things I love the most as a job! Writing, taking pictures and talking about beauty and fashion.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Ideal, I would have successful job and met the love of my life. More realistic, I hope to still work at a nice place and have my own apartment or something!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Traveling, a lot!

Visit Thailand

Visit Dubai

Go to the ABC islands

A roadtrip through America

Start my own beauty and fashion magazine

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I would have to go with passing my first year in journalism college without any retests. Here in Belgium, it is very common to have so, so I was very proud to pass without them!

.

Who inspires you?

I am much inspired by a lot of beautyguru’s on Youtube. They inspired me to start this blog as well!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I do not really have a favourite, mostly “positive and get things done”-quotes are my favourites!

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Do not overthink. Just do what you like and see your blog as your own personal space where you can put your own thoughts. If somebody doesn’t like it, well then just click the close button. Your blog is your space in the first place, so you should be your number one fan and be proud of it. That’s my golden rule!

Behind The Blog featuring Traci-Ann Loves…

Traci Ann Loves

Hey Beauty Buddies,

Arriving home from work yesterday I was so moved to find quite a few of you had emailed such kind words of support in relation to my intro on Sundays Keeping Up With Karen. Can’t thank y’all enough for such caring messages – you all know who you are & I couldn’t be more grateful to have such an awesome bunch supporting me. And just while I’m dishing out the compliments… thanks so much to all who checked out yesterday’s post Makeup Revolution Iconic 2: Metallic Eyes. Some of you gals are really eager to invest in it & I’m pretty sure you’ll love it as much as I do! Don’t forget you can buy it in Superdrug or online if you’re an international customer or someone who prefers to shop from your comfy arm chair!

However onto today’s post & I’m beyond delighted to introduce y’all to one of my loveliest blog buddies… the gorgeous Traci Ann from Traci-Ann Loves. Apart from sharing a mad obsession with eye shadows, Traci-Ann is one of those bloggers I just instantly clicked with. She’s funny, sassy, knows her cosmetics, regularly stops by for fun beauty chatter & is always super duper supportive & encouraging. It’s blog buddies like Traci-Ann that I consider a friend I’ve yet to meet! So if you haven’t check out her fabulous corner of the interweb then get yourself over pronto & say a huge hello, you’ll not regret it 🙂

Traci Ann

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Honesty, humour, makeup, ramblings & stuff!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I originally had a closed facebook group for my friends where I shared beauty tips and let them know of the latest products and sales. This developed into a public facebook page and from there a blog. I still have my facebook page and now have Twitter and Instagram which I use a lot. I also have Pinterest, Google + and Bloglovin’ which I don’t really get if I am honest but I am working on it!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I am currently on my third blog name! In January 2015 t was originally Tip-tastic TAS as I gave tips and my initials are TAS. This changed to Traci-Ann Blogs in October 2015 to make my blog name more personal. This then changed to Traci-Ann Loves… in January 2016 as I wanted to start doing YouTube videos and just wanted one name to suit all. I am hoping that this is it and I don’t change my mind again…changing everything over to a new name is a nightmare! Lol!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I do! If I am blocked I just don’t write and wait for inspiration to strike. I read a lot and peruse the internet as well as consider my current interests…usually inspiration will strike when I least suspect it! My blog is my hobby and not my job so it doesn’t matter if I don’t post for a few days or a week or so. I take breaks when I feel like it and definitely don’t feel pressured to have a schedule or post my content to a specific time frame.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I don’t have a favourite as I don’t post anything I don’t like. One of my posts that is my readers’ favourite and still gets hits every day, more so than any other blog post I have written, is ‘Decluttering the Blusher Drawer’ http://traciannloves.co.uk/2015/04/12/decluttering-the-blusher-drawer/  I am planning a decluttering series with some blog posts and YouTube videos which hope that people will love as much as they do this post. I am desperate to declutter so I am quite excited to get started!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I have three main styles. My ‘I’m off to work, look at my totally unflattering uniform’ style. My ‘I am not leaving the house and yes I will wear PJs all day’ style. And the other days where I always wear a dress (as I am too lazy to choose matching coordinates), tights and pretty shoes or boots.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

  1. Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer. This stuff it just brilliant and covers everything without caking up. If I can’t be bothered to wear foundation I just splodge this randomly around my face and blend and it does the job just fine!
  2. Lipstick! Any super opaque bold and bright lipstick…and coordinating lip liner of course! It finishes off any look just perfectly.
  3. Face oil. I just cannot get enough and literally drench myself in it on a night. I am yet to try mixing it with foundation but YouTube assures me this is something I really need to do!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A bath and a bit of Netflix usually sorts me out. I love the LUSH bubble bars and I am currently watching Pretty Little Liars, The Goodwife, Reign, Homeland and Vampire Diaries on Netflix.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

I would pop out for an early dinner with friends, have a drink or two then go home nice and early, change into my PJs and curl up in front of the TV to watch Saturday night TV or Netflix. 🙂

.

What do you do to relax?

I watch Netflix, surf the web and catch up on reading posts from the bloggers I follow. I LOVE NETFLIX!!! 🙂

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I pick at the skin on my lips and bite the inside of my mouth. I am also the queen of procrastination…it’s amazing how clean my house becomes when I have a project to complete or uni work to do! 😉

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I am afraid that I didn’t like school at all! I tolerated it and passed the exams I needed to pass very averagely…but there was nothing that I actually liked doing. One of my most hated subjects was computer studies…I know right! This was back in the day when Windows was a mere twinkle in the everyday computer user’s eye and computers had black screens with green writing. I had a dot matrix printer and learnt ‘go to’ programming…I only managed to scrape an E in my high school exams and I vowed never to use a computer ever again! Lol!

.

What’s your dream job?

I love the job I currently have! I am an occupational therapist and I work with people with brain injuries. It is a challenge that makes me laugh and cry in equal measure but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I would really love to win the lottery and spend the money on setting up a specialist rehabilitation unit as my client group have very limited choices when they leave hospital. I absolutely adore blogging but it really is a hobby for me…a space where I can totally turn off from work and do something totally fun and just for me.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope that I will have finished my MSc degree. I am currently doing it alongside a full-time job which is really hard.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I have never thought of a bucket list so I’m making this up as I go along!

  1. Win the lottery – not sure if this is really bucket list material but a girl’s gotta dream!
  2. Buy a house – run-of-the-mill for some people but this is a biggie for me!
  3. Own a really massive car with ginormous wheels – because why not!
  4. Travel the world for as long as I want and not have to worry about money. J
  5. Write a book. Subject tbc! Lol!

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Passing my driving test on the 5th attempt! It is one thing I feel the proudest of as I did not let failure stand in my way! My academic achievements are great, I got a first class degree, a bit of a change from my mediocre school grades, but nothing beats the freedom a driving licence gives me.

.

Who inspires you?

People who are fearless and who do not take no for an answer when trying to achieve something.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Consider your reasons for starting as this will determine the shape and style of your blog. If it’s just a hobby like mine then just hop onto WordPress, get started and figure it out as you go along. If you want your blog to make money and be your job…well I can’t really help you there but I am sure some sort of plan and strategy is in order to make that work.

Behind The Blog featuring Simply Shanice….

Simply Shanice

Hey beauty buddies…

Firstly, a super duper big thank you to all who checked out yesterday’s post Contouring with L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt… your fab comments & lashings of support were much appreciated, particularly as it was my first time rolling up the sleeves to give contouring a go. I have to admit that little L’Oreal kit made it incredibly easy-peasy for a beginner like myself. So if contouring is something you’re still aiming to get to grips with then definitely check it out – I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed ladies 🙂

However as another weekend races towards us, it’s that time of the week to plump up the cushions on the virtual sofa and welcome yet another blossoming blogger on board. Today I have the gorgeous Shanice joining me from Simply Shanice, as she stops to chat about life behind the scenes of her beauty, fashion & lifestyle blog! With a virtual haven crammed full of super chic posts, news & reviews this is definitely one blogger you need to check out. Don’t forget to pop over & say a huuuuge hello. I’m pretty certain you’ll adore her blog just as much as the rest of us do!

Humorous, beauty, fashion & lifestyle posts

What inspired you to start blogging?

Well , I saw what other bloggers post about and I thought “I can do that” and “I wonder would people be interested in what my life looks like” — It’s still a work in progress

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I wanted it to be about me and my life, and I figured Simply Shanice is pretty much to the point. I also think it’s a name that I can stick with “forever” 🙂

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Not really Blogger’s Block because I have so many ideas every day but more like “I don’t want to go out and do it” mood.. Being a flight attendant is kind of tough so when I have a day off it’s hard to get motivated. I’m working on it though!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My MAC lipstick collection post probably because I tried to make it super detailed 🙂

http://damascenesnf.com/2015/09/05/mac-lipstick-collection-lip-swatches/#more-668

Describe your everyday clothes style:

It depends on my mood. I’m one of those converse 1 day heels the next day type of girls. (I’m also from Ireland so if you see me in the supermarket looking like a homeless person in joggers with a messy bun just remember I don’t know any better it’s our uniform back home! 😀

Out for dinner with my boyfriend and then straight home for a chill couch and movie night. I like to go out for dinner and during the day, but I’m not a Club kind of girl.

.

What do you do to relax?

I’d like to say take a bath but I don’t really like baths. It’s like as soon as I get in I’m over it 😀 I’d say I look at furniture magazines/websites or watch movies to relax.

 .

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I am extremely inpatient. I need everything done immediately otherwise I feel like everything will be stressful and messy.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Well I don’t really have all that many but one memory I still cherish is when me and my aunty dressed up in the same outfits and made a dance choreography which we then performed in front of my family. Our dance group was called SHALA btw (Shanice & Laura) 😀 We had so much fun!

What was your favourite school subject?

Probably art class, although I did like business as well when I got older. Again, I’m really a mix of opposites when it comes to everything in life.

.

What’s your dream job?

My absolute dream job would be to become a professional blogger/stay-at-home dog mom 😀 However Event Manager or Interior Designer would also make me happy!

.

Hopefully in a big house with my boyfriend and dog, doing something that I love and makes me happy.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Be more confident (No idea how one can ever cross that off the bucket list)

Blog more about personal things (my life and what i want not what i think people want)

Go to Paris,Amsterdam, India, Thailand, Maldives and New York (all planned in 2016)

Get my drivers licence (I know, I know, but the theory is like more than 1000 questions!)

Use my days off to actually get out and do things that make me happy

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I think probably getting this job as a flight attendant. I got it by myself without the help of anyone and it changed my life. I started travelling a lot, paying my own bills, moved in to my own apartment basically became independent because of it.

.

Who inspires you?

My grandmother. She raised me, she has been through so much in her life and managed to stay positive. Managed to be happy and see the good in everything and everyone. She never complains about anything. She still travels from Hungary 8 hours on the bus to come and watch our dog when we go on holiday. She is the best person i have ever met in my entire life, I admire her and I aspire to become just like her one day. (Wipes tears away)

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“We know what we are, but know not what we may be” -William Shakespeare

.

.What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

DO IT! It doesn’t matter what you want to blog about just start your blog and start writing or posting your photos. Try your best to do it for you. (that’s something I’m working on)

Behind The Blog featuring Sarah from Alisvolatpropriis…

Alisvolatpropriis

As always, a mahhoosive thank you to all who checked out yesterday’s post TheMakeup Menu: First Impressions. Some of your comments really made me smile… and giggle!! That’s what I love so much about blogging – regardless of how tough my day has been, you guys really know how to cheer me up at the end of it all! So thank you, all your support is much appreciated and never goes unnoticed ❤ What an encouraging community we have here – it really is fabulous, wouldn’t you agree ladies? 🙂

Talking of community spirit… I’m plumping up the cushions for another awesome blogger who’s gracing the virtual sofa today, as I’m deeeelighted to introduce you all to the gorgeous Sarah from Alisvolatpropriis. I swear, I’ve checked my spelling countless times & I fear I still have the name incorrect – apologies Sarah if I do!! Anyways, Sarah is a blossoming beauty & lifestyle blogger with a special place in her heart for pugs, pasta, her faith & of course beauty! The two of us would certainly get on well beyond the virtual realms – though I do have a soft spot for kittens, nevertheless a pug always manages to tug on my heart strings!

So if Sarah sounds like your kinda blog buddy too then make yourself comfy and get to know her that little bit better as we take a quick peek Behind The Blog

Ps: Don’t forget to pop over and give her blog a follow – she has some awesome posts you don’t wanna miss out on!

Sarah

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog?

A lot of makeup & happiness!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Simple answer: my friends. After having a few of them tell me that they would love reading a blog if I had one, I finally decided to create one. So thank you to my friends for pushing me (politely) because I love blogging!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I actually wanted to get this saying as a tattoo, it means “she flies with her own wings”. However, I have commitment issues and feared I would come to dislike something so permanent. So I thought a blog url instead would be a better idea. I also wanted my url to describe me, and being a very independent person, I found this saying to be very fitting.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Oh yes, all the time! If you’re someone who is always able to come up with ideas, I envy you! Usually when I’m stuck, I’ll read other blogs for inspiration or search blog post ideas on Pinterest. My number one fall back when writers block hits? A tag post!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh goodness it’s kinda difficult to choose! A while back I wrote a post called a letter to my person, it is probably the most personal thing I have written to date and I genuinely enjoyed creating it!

http://alisvolatpropriss.com/2015/10/22/a-letter-to-my-person/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

A lot of my friends claim that I am always dressed nicely, but I don’t always agree. I can be found in leggings 3-4 times a week (which I’m totally okay with). When I want to look a bit more “put together” my go to is a nice pair of skinny jeans, a blouse, and flats.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

In no particular order… Dr. Lin daily facial cleanser, Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer, and Too Faced Neutral Eyes matte palette the colors are so incredibly gorgeous and right up my alley!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Eat my feelings haha! In all seriousness, it takes a lot to make me feel stressed but when I do I find that unplugging from technology and reading a good book or my bible always lifts up my spirits.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

I am a total homebody, so I am perfectly content with staying in and reading a multitude of blog posts or going on Tumblr. However, dinner and/or drinks from time to time with friends is always fun!

.

What do you do to relax?

Take a long shower! And even though I don’t always like how time consuming it is, I find washing my face and using a mask to be really relaxing. We all deserve to care for and pamper ourselves, so spending time doing that always makes me calmer!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Spending the amounts of money that I do on makeup. I’m surprised my local Ulta store doesn’t know me by first name at this point! Also, biting my nails. I really need to stop doing that!

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I have a lot but this is the first that came to mind: when I was younger, my brother would start school before me and so after he was dropped off, my dad would take me out to breakfast before taking me to school. I loved spending quality time with him and the strawberry waffles I always got weren’t bad either!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Until college it was either History or Science. In college though I took a lot of women’s studies classes (it was my minor) and ended up loving all of them, most likely because one of my favorite professors taught most of the classes I took!

.

What’s your dream job?

Blogger. think that would be so fun, time consuming and challenging no doubt but totally enjoyable. I don’t think that will happen though (but I’ll keep  dreaming) my more realistic goal is to become a youth director of a church.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully living in my own home or apartment somewhere in Chicago would be amazing. Maybe with my dream guy ( eh romance and being sentimental) working at a job I love!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

– traveling the world

– get front row tickets to see one of my favorite artists

– own a pug

– buy my dream home

– adopt a child (hopefully three!)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Graduating college for sure!

.

Who inspires you?

My mom! I could spend hours praising and thanking her for all that she’s done for me. She is truly my best friend!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I’m not sure if it’s inspirational, but a quote that I always keep in my mind and try to live by is ” if you can’t find a nice person, be one.”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Don’t pay attention to stats. Enjoying what you write about is more important than page views or follower count

Engage with other bloggers even if it’s simply a comment to tell them you enjoyed reading a post of theirs

Be consistent with uploading

Most importantly, be yourself!!

.

The Makeup Menu: First Impressions…

The Makeup Menu First Impressions

As many of you know I love rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck into a make-up menu, however this week it’s a teeny bit special as everything I’ve included is pretty much a first impression – all if which have been recommended by bloggers scattered across the globe. After last weeks video HUGE Boots Haul a few of you were eager to find out about some of the intriguing new goodies I revealed from my shopping bag! So without further ado let’s gets investigating the makeup menu of first impressions…
.
FACE

 Face

L’Oreal True Match Foundation in 2R/2C Rose Vanilla:

I’ve lost count of the cosmetic cravers far and wide that claim this as their current favourite drugstore foundation… and I can (partially) see why. The shade and formula blended seamlessly with my natural skin tone, and it felt very velvety to touch. Unfortunately though it seems to aggravate my skin very slightly and has brought out a few tiny (very itchy) little spots. I also noticed that the lasting power of L’Oreal didn’t stand up to anywhere near my own favourite base (Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte) as it dried out and looked quite flaky after just a few hours. However when freshly applied it did cover a few of my rosey blemishes really well. I found a warm dampened blender sponge or fingers worked best as the stippling brush left quite a few obvious lines. All in all a nice foundation for everyday use, though it would really need to be a longer lasting for me to repurchase!

DSC02470

Seventeen Skin WOW Concealer in Light:

Seventeen have really upped their game with when it comes to launching sassy products that really work a treat. I love the little pump button on the bottom and the packaging us pretty eye catching too. More importantly the formula applied incredibly well, blended seamlessly with a medium/heavy finish that stayed put and brightened under my eye area!

DSC02463
L’Oreal Infallible Contouring Kit in Light/Medium:

Admittedly my lack of experience in contouring has me running for the hills at even the slightest mention of the word.  The thought of smearing my face in a mishmash of coloured patches just seems a bit OTT… however this kit is super user friendly and even includes a handy little booklet for anyone like me who is rather clueless to it all. The formula is a gorgeous creamy powder consistency which glides on the skin very smooth and is really easy to blend. I adored the ashy shade of the deep tone which contrasted perfectly with the lighter highlighting option. A brill little kit for anyone new to contouring and wanting to master the basics!

DSC02461

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Blush Palette:

Although this isn’t entirely a first impression of the palette, as it’s featured briefly before, there are a few colours I haven’t tried out yet. This time I went for a more mauve tone to add a flush of complimentary colour to the look I was aiming for. I really can’t recommend this palette enough – the colours are fabulous and the pigmentation is incredible. A worthy investment for any MUA!

.

EYES

Eyes

Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow in Galaxy / Makeup  Academy Eyeshadow in Silver:

Both of these pots have been high on my review list to try out & finally I’ve gotten around to giving them a go. Although both their initial swatches turned out gorgeous I’m always a bit reserved until I see the colours directly on the lid, including the blendability. Both worked fabulous, blended well, felt soft and actually quite creamy for a powder consistency. They didn’t require lots of layers to build up to a decent colour either, so you don’t have to spend ages working the colour. For a mere £1 each these are amazing value for money!

DSC02475

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara in Black:

If truth be told I feel this is the one thing that’s been on my ‘blogging made me buy it’ list forever. I’ve read countless recommendations and rave reviews about this supposed ‘Holy Grail’ mascara that puts the high-end competition to shame… and I’m deeelighted to report it hasn’t disappointed one iota! If long, exaggerated looking lashes is everything your heart desires then be sure to check this out next time you’re shopping for a new mascara!

.

LIPS

Lips

Seventeen Supreme Shine Lipstick in Barely Blush:

Just look at the packaging *inserts heart eye emoji* isn’t is gorgeous?! It has such sassy futuristic look going on which was one of the things that captured my eye almost immediately from the stand. This will definitely appeal to anyone who enjoys a surge of moisture in their lippy as the formula feels very hydrating & balm like. The colour was slightly lighter than I anticipated but it’s gorgeous nonetheless as it give a soft wash of baby pink to the lips.

.

THE FINISHED LOOK

The Makeup Menu First Impressions Finished look

Taa daa!

Okay, so the longevity of the foundation was my only major gripe, but overall I’m really liking the finished look. It’s fresh, dewy and great for day or easily glammed up with some dramatic liquid liner for night! What do you think gals?

Websites To Help Beauty Bloggers Collaborate With Brands…

Collaborating with Brands

Blogging is immensly fun for a number of reasons… you get to constantly challenge and improve your creative skills, interact with other bloggers and build your own virtual haven into something you’re super proud of. Bringing the latest news on new product launches can be a super exciting part of it too, particularly when you start building great relationships with brands of all sizes, who are often thrilled to bits for help on promoting, launching and reviewing new products. Adding your feedback to a campaign is incredibly beneficial to brands too – not only are you helping to spread the word about their product or service, you’re also passing on your worthy opinion… which in my opinion helps the brand better their products by recognising what they’re getting wrong just as equally as what they’re getting right.

So if you’re a new or established blogger who loves the idea of working closely with brands & PR companies then why not check out these websites? All of them work alongside bloggers / influencers by creating opportunities to try a whole range of products. So rather than daydreaming about fulfilling your blogging sponsorship goals you could get started on stopping by these great sites to help your blog get a slice of the beauty action…

.

Bloggers Required

BloggersRequiredCommunity

Bloggers Required work busily alongside brands and businesses to help connect bloggers with exciting assignments. Keep an eye on their website daily to ensure you don’t miss any great opportunities to review and test a pretty impressive selection of products.

.

BrandBacker

brand back

This is one of my personal favs, I’ve worked quite a lot with Brand Backer over the past year and have been delighted with the great range of Brands and PR companies I’ve had the opportunity of collaborating with. There’s also scope for paid posts too!

.

Influenster

Influenster

With a huggge amount of social trendsetters and products on board, Influenster is certainly one of the most popular sites amongst bloggers who are eager to review and collaborate with a number of both established and emerging brands!

.

iFabbo

ifabbo

Although iFabbo is currently only available in the USA, they’re working on going international – so those of you scattered elsewhere across the globe keep an eye out, I’m eagerly waiting too! With seemingly great support for their members it’s definitely one to check out if you’re currently eligible to sign up! The rest of us will just have to sit and wait *sigh*

.

House Party

houseparty

Slightly different concept, but seemingly brilliant nonetheless! Having made headlines in a series of national publications such as the New York Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal; House Party seems to be an exciting new way to gather friends and family under one roof by hosting a product party. You’ll get your pick of Parties from brands that’s coming soon, all you have to do is pick one you’re interested in to get the ball rolling. Check out their website for more details – currently open to US residents only.

.

Blog Meets Brand

blog meets b

This is great for emerging companies and small businesses to get connected with bloggers who are super eager to create great media exposure for new product launches and campaigns. Blog Meets Brand tends to ranks bloggers on the valuation of their outreach, so although it may not initially be the best route for new bloggers it’s certainly something to stick at in order to work your way up the ranks for more lucrative blogging opportunities.

.

Grapevine

grapewine

This is one for the YouTubers amongst us… If you’ve got a complimentary channel for your blog that’s growing at a steady pace and you’re eager to bring the latest news & reviews to your subscribers then Grapevine just might be the place for you. Check it out to take avail of fun sponsorship opportunities to help empower your channel, perfect your creative skills and grow your viewer numbers! Win win in my opinion 😉

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fitness, fashion, food, fun… and positivity!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started my first blog about 25 goals I wanted to accomplish by the time I was 25 years old.  Once that was completed, I wanted to keep going!  It became my creative outlet and I thrived on the positive community.  Here I am, still going strong several years later!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I was looking for something that encompassed a life of balance.  Yes, I work out, but I also love sweets.  And thus… Semi-Sweet Tooth!

The Proposal: Because it was about such a huge, life-changing day.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Growing into my own and becoming my own person has been quite the achievement, although that’s an ongoing process.

What would technically be my largest achievements would be graduating from college, competing on Team U.S.A. for ice skating (we won!), or starting my own brand and business with Semi-Sweet Tooth.

.

Who inspires you?

Several people, but primarily my parents.  They’re both incredibly different, one entirely left brain and one entirely right.  Both have inspired me in different ways and they’ve made me more confident and optimistic than many in the world.  They inspire me to achieve and follow my intuition every day.

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

It’s official: My name is Karen and I’m a YouTube addict.

I’ve spent more hours trailing the internet for info this weekend than the last few weeks put together – however there’s a really good reason for what seems like my multiple hours of procrastination gals. You see, back when I was 21 I spent a crazy amount of money training to become a nail technician, & for a short while I even had my own little nail bar in a salon. Since then I’ve always harboured a fascination for nails and nail art, and have occasionally indulged in keeping on top of my skills by enhancing the claws of friends and family members.

However, with almost £1k of nail kit sitting idol in my beauty room, I thought it was high time I started to get back into the swing of things. After searching online, I found a local refresher course for a couple of hundred pounds. As much as I’d love to indulge in topping up my skills by attending a day course, right now I’ve more pressing bills to spend my hard earned cash on. However YouTube has proved it’s virtual weight in goal as I stumbled across a full length refresher tutorial with the brand I originally trained with! *yippeee* I couldn’t believe my luck! As soon as I settled down to watch it everything came flooding back and before long I was unearthing my bottle of monomer, coloured acrylics and sculpting brushes! How fabulous 🙂 Hopefully within the next few weeks It’ll be an exciting little project I’ll be getting back into, a few practice runs and I know I’m good to go. That’s the great thing about training, it’s always something to dip back into when the notion rises. Ps: If you can recommend any great nail YouTubers to add to my subscription list let me know in the comments below!

As for today, well it’s all about filming, blogging and catching up with you lovely lot… and if you’re planning a little catch up of your own then why not start by checking out what’s been happening over the last week here on Confetti and Curves
