Bourjois Air Mat Foundation…

Bourjois Air Mat Foundation Review

I’ve done it… as unbelievable as it may seem, I’ve FINALLY popped my Bourjois foundation cherry gals!! You see the teeny tiny issue I have is when I find a foundation I love (and I mean adore here) I tend to buy ONLY that brand for the rest of my days – ever fearing that the formula will change or the company will dissolve over night leaving me grasping onto my final dregs. However lately I’ve been hopping about from foundation to foundation like a dismissive cosmetic tart.

Bit of a mini back story to this purchase… a number of weeks ago (when summer declared it had finally arrived) I was getting rather tedious of foundations sliding of my face at the mere sight of a single sun ray. Deciding it was high time to tackle the issue, I took to the aisles of Superdrug in search of my next purchase… something that suggested “hey you, I’m a summer-lovin little bottle of goodness that won’t chase your concealer half way down your chest” So when I spotted the bright and chic looking bottle of Bourjois Air Mat (coupled by a rather tempting deal for a pair of free sunglasses) it comes as no surprise I was loading my basket with beauty goodies that seemed to fill me with confidence for facing the sweltering summer sun. After a few weeks of wear here’s my findings…

.

So What’s The Hype?!

According to Bourjois…

“Bourjois’ Air Mat foundation has been specially developed to give skin a smooth, matte finish that lasts for up to 24 hours. Its non drying, lightweight formula lets skin breathe throughout the day and provides high coverage for a flawless finish.

Enriched with mattifying micronized powders, it elimates shine with no mask effect for an undetectable result.

Starting at the centre of your face blend the formula outwards and upwards for a flawless finish whilst erasing any imperfections.”

.

Application Results

As any thorough beauty blogger would, I’ve pretty much tried this with every application tool I would normally apply foundation with. Here’s a quick peek at how it fairs with half of my face blended with the Air Mat compared to my natural skin tone…

DSC02882

Stippling Brush: Tends to lean towards a dry and uneven appearance. The more I worked the brush the more disastrous the results appeared. Looked dry, skin felt very dehydrated and super difficult to blend = 2/10.

Beauty Sponge: For this I trialled it with both the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge & the original Beauty Blender. Personally I felt the RT sponge left a slightly better finish as it seemed to retain less of the product whereas I had to use a little more product with the Beauty Blender. Strange but true *sigh* Not the best coverage and looked rather patchy as the day wore on = 5/10.

Fingers: Low and behold my very own digits seemed to be the best for the job as the warmth generated when smoothing really helped to blend the product out around the edges of the jawline and across the face = 7/10.

.

Formula

The consistency of the product is actually really lovely, it’s not too watery but at the same time it’s not like smearing peanut butter across your face (though I must admit I’m yet to try that so I could be wrong *ponders pensively*) Considering I picked up the shade ‘Ivory Rose’ it’s surprisingly yellow toned & should be valued as ‘warm ivory’ than what I assumed had slightly more pinkish undertones.

DSC02895

Initially the smell of the foundation seemed pleasing, slightly unusual and reminded me of something I couldn’t quite place… something that I’d smelt before that could be a tad offensive if whafted in large doses. After a week of slowly agonising over the aroma it became all too clear: seaweed. Yes, seaweed – more precisely the Lush Seaweed Fresh Faced Mask. Of course once my sniff sensors registered this I’m afraid it all went a tad downhill as I slowly turned myself against the pungency of the fragrance. Maybe my sense of smell has slightly malfunctioned, or maybe I’ve just got an over active nose canal – either way the strength of my stomach doesn’t agree with it and I’m afraid to say the pong of Air Mat has slowly turned me 50 shades of green.

.

 Staying Power?

I’m afraid this is where my opinions begin to landslide a little lot. Okay, so it looked decent when freshly applied but over the two weeks (and regardless what primer I paired it with) the formula began to very quickly sit in the fine lines under my eyes. My cheek bones, chin & nose all had the appearance that I’d somehow managed to miss them out during application too. Considering that it claims to be a 24HR foundation I’m assuming it’s been tested on a plastic doll as anyone with pores with inevitably find it being soaked in and (at best) lasting 4 hours, let alone another 20.

Bourjois Air Mat Foundation

Pros

At £9.99 and available from local drugstores, it’s pocket friendly and easy peasy to get your hands on.

The packaging is bright, cheery and has a hint of ‘I’m a summer staple’ about it. PLUS it’s plastic, which is great to travel with and easily trimmed in half should you need to scoop out those last remaining dregs.

It’s matte. Wait, in fact it’s VERY Matte! There’s no denying it’ll certainly eliminate shine without a hint of dewiness if that’s your thing.

Feels very velvet to touch as it leaves what feels like a very fine powdery finish over the skin.

.

Cons

Most definitely not 24 HR – unless you’re completely poreless of course.

The smell. Oh the smell.

Colour choice – personally there aint much that I’ve seen available and considering the shade I picked was the lightest of the bunch, I actually thought it was pretty warm and oxidised on application. Not great for us palers! Darker skinned ladies, from what I’ve seen the choices are limited – very limited in fact 😦

Dry, itchy, flaky & patchy. My skin just didn’t like it one iota *sigh*

A nightmare to blend which can lead to it seeming very cakey around the hair line etc so smooth with caution!

Definitely doesn’t cover flaws as well as other full foundations.

.

Final Verdict

DSC02889

Don’t get me wrong, once applied it looks rather pretty. If anything it actually gives the appearance that your complexion is very softly airbrushed. However, as the hours whittle away so does the staying power. Maybe it’s my skin, which happens to be combo and quite often a little unsettled with matte finishes. Unfortunately I won’t be reinvesting in this anytime soon, it’s just not for me *sob*

Makeup Revolution Metallic EyeShadow Review

What I adore is the subtle colour of the shade, yet the vibrancy of the metallic finish. The colour isn’t overly coppery on one application however the more layers are added the stronger the shade becomes which makes it perfect to work with if you only want a hint of rose gold OR if you’re up for the full copper experience!

Makeup Revolution Iconic 2: Metallic Eyes…

Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Eye Shadow Palette

I’m in love. Sounds a bit over dramatic when it comes to eye shadow, huh?

Of course this past number of weeks I’ve been so wrapped up in pastels & pinks that I’ve almost managed to forget how beautiful a metallic semi-smokey eye really is… and how damn wearable whether it be day, night, summer or winter. Although I’m often intimidated by bold shades of lippy, a dramatic eye never fazes me. In fact, the bolder the better is quite often my motto when it comes to dressing up my lids. So this weekend I waved a dismissive hand to pastels and said hello to mesmerising metallic’s; all thanks to the pocket friendly Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 palette & it’s array of show-stopping shades…

MUR Redemption Iconic 2

Okay so the title may be a tad grammatically dramatic but it’s certainly in keeping with the pigmentation that’s simmering below the lid. But let’s start at the beginning gals = price. Everyone knows I LOVE a bargain, and what could be better than parting ways with a mere £4 for a medley of twelve cool toned shadows? For just short of fiver, Makeup Revolution have managed to create what I’d consider to be the closest dupe to the Naked 2 I’ve yet to sample. Crazy, huh?

MUR Redemption Iconic 2 palette

DSC02549

DSC02528

In fact, the pigmentation is so good it makes me question if high end offerings are indeed overpriced and over-rated in comparison. Are we unnecessarily paying an arm and a leg just for fancy schmancy packaging? Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE my pricier palettes, but for anyone who hasn’t yet invested in any I’d be pretty quick to recommend the Makeup Revolution as a worthy alternative equivalent.

Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Palette Review

Taking a quick peek at the shade selection, it’s a sassy range of cool matte & shimmering metallic tones that will undoubtedly work well with pretty much any complexion. One thing I will say is that the lighter matte shades are slightly disappointing compared to the rest of the colours. The highlighter & base tones pale into insignificance against the mighty pop of the bold metal tones which are even more impressive if you decide to use them with a slightly dampened brush = a semi foiled finish that’s utterly multifaceted *swoon* The colour literally lights up the lid *more swooning* Check out a close up of the scrummy copper coloured look I created this weekend…

Copper and Gold Metalic Eye Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 Palette

Of course any cosmetic craver will more than likely agree that when you find something so damn fabulous in (almost) every way you can’t help but insist anyone with a pulse NEEDS to have it in their life. But what’s not to love? The pricing, pigmentation & consistency are all clear winners. Okay, so the outer casing is a tad uninspiring but I’d much rather have quality on the inside than pretty packaging containing shadows that pack as much colour punch as self-raising flour *sigh*

.

The finished look…

Smokey Copper Eye Look  DSC02513

So if there’s any pocket friendly treat you’re putting on your ‘pay day me spree’ this month make it the Makeup Revolution Redemption Iconic 2 palette. Your bank account & eyes will love you for it ❤

Makeup Revolution: Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Palette

Bright, bold & beautiful is how I would describe the Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette at first glance. Boasting 32 gloriously vibrant colours to dress your lids in, there’s literally a shade selection for almost every occasion – and at £8, the price tag is most certainly pocket friendly.

Rummaging through my palette drawers I seem to be building quite a nifty little collection from Makeup Revolution. But it’s not just me that’s falling head over heels for their range of affordable cosmetics, makeup lovers all over the globe are raving about the outstanding pigmentation and long lasting wear of a majority of their lines. But does this colourful Mermaid really match the wow factor of her tempting price tag? Let’s take a closer peek…

MUR Mermaids Palette

So here they are, all 32 colours – ranging from soft neutrals, punchy peaches, vibrant pinks, deep blues, rich browns and beyond. There’s certainly no lack of thought gone into the gorgeous range of shades, and if you’re having a tricky time of selecting tones then you’ll notice that diagonally the colours are set in complimentary blocks of 4 to keep you on the right path to successfully matching colours, ensuring you get the perfect blend! Certainly a great start for beginners in lid fashion 😉

MUR Mermaids Palette a

As for the packaging, it’s simple & chic. Although I’d love to see the palettes personalised in outer case styling a little more, perhaps one of the reasons they’re so affordable is Makeup Revolution keeping everything low keyed and simple to justify the price point. However the bright metallic blue storage box is certainly an eye-catcher… but if truth be told, I’d much rather have a great internal product with minimal packaging than a disappointing product that looks like it’s been designed by the hands of Picasso.

MUR Mermaids Palette b

(image taken with the plastic name cover over shadows)

Inside the palette the shadow pods are simple round pans. Granted they’re not overly big, so fluffly brushes beware! However for those that adore plenty of reflection room the mirror is huge (the entire size of the outer case) which makes it a great travel companion as you’ve every shade you’d need along with one giant mirror to play about with all the colours. Jolly hols = sorted!

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette

As for pigmentation… well, I must admit a few of the lighter colours (particularly in the first diagonal row) will need a little more work to really pack a punch, however the brighter colours are beautifully vibrant and blend incredibly well onto the skin. When I’m trying shadows for the first time I usually just pop them on a naked lid (no primer, foundation or base layer underneath) so I can really test the staying power on the skin. I applied my shadows at 11am and low and behold, they were still sitting just as pretty come 8 pm later that evening. A pretty impressive time frame for no base whatsoever, which of course can only get better with a great primer to pull out the intensity of the colour and help settle the shadows to prevent fallout or fading… which, I like I said, hasn’t been the case here. No primer and very happy lids many hours later *Yippeee*

DSC02425

All in all the Mermaids Forver Palette is certainly a winner in my eyes! Sure some of the lighter colours require a little bit more work (though I find that’s even the case in some of my high end palettes which are x5 more expensive) however a slightly dampened shadow brush really helps to restore the colour pigmentation and keeps the shadows consistency from risk at crumbling too.

.

The Final Look…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette Look DSC02420

What d’ya think gals? Today, I opted for a gorgeous mix of bright pinks – and keeping to the diagonal pink line, with just a touch of seashell in the inner corner, I thought the overall look was vivid and perfectly matched. Most definitely a palette I’ll be reaching for regularly and recommending to friends who love to hoard a selection of fabulous colours for special occasions or simple everyday use!

The Makeup Revolution Menu: First Impressions…

Makeup Revolution First Impressions Haul

A few months ago I treated myself to a rather sizeable Makeup Revolution haul… you can *Click Here* to check it out if you missed it! Having never tried any of their products before, I was filling the contents of my virtual shopping basket based on two things: blog buddy opinions & my own curiosity. To be perfectly honest, I’ve never been a fan of buying makeup over the internet, simply because I’m one of those curious little individuals that like to swatch half way up my arm, whilst casting a critical eye under the harsh lights of my local drug store. So with fingers firmly crossed & hope in my heart I hit the ‘Buy Now’ button – quietly confident that all really would be as good as what my fellow cosmetic critics had announced. Needless to say, over the weekend I was *finally* able to try out a few of my new purchases whilst sipping over a cup of tea & basking in time to really get to know my new products.

Fancy finding out more about my first impressions of Makeup Revolution? Then get yourself comfy and let’s get started….

MUR1

Makeup Revolution - face makeup haul

The One Foundation in Shade 1: Okay, so I’d never read a review about this particular foundation, but the description on the website intrigued me enough to take a punt… after all £4 wasn’t going to break the bank if it was an epic fail. Unfortunately though (at the time of ordering) the shade selection wasn’t clear on the website and the colour I choose (shade 1) is literally as white as an Arctic landscape. Having had to mix it with a considerable amount of an alternative everyday-foundation to build up a bit of warmth, I couldn’t honestly say what my final thoughts were. Thankfully though my skin did feel surprisingly velvety soft, however come my next haul I’ll be aiming for shade 4/5 . Review to be continued gals…

.

Focus & Fix Foundation Liquid Concealer: As many of you already know, concealers & I have had a bumpy road this past year. I haven’t reeeeeally found the one that I can honestly say ‘voila – that’s IT!’. However that’s not to say I don’t appreciate the qualities that some of them bring to the beauty table. Focus & Fix is a quite a light weight concealer, and although buildable I have to say my skin almost drank it within a few hours (though that’s no surprise as it does with most things these day). Thankfully this one didn’t sit in my lines and cause that horrid aging effect that most do. If you’re looking for something that’s affordable, brightening and light enough to compliement a light/medium foundation then I’d certainly encourage you to give it a go. What’s there to lose with a price tag of £2?

Link To Buy: http://www.makeuprevolutionstore.com/focus-fix-liquid-concealer.html

.

Ultra Blush Palette in Golden Sugar: Having seen a number of reviews of this stunning blush palette from several bloggers I literally couldn’t wait to get my hands on it; and ladies it didn’t disappoint! Hailed as ‘The one you have been waiting for’ on the description, it certainly ain’t far from the truth.

Makeup Revolution - Golden Sugar Blush Palette

What a beautiful selection of creamy, warm and totally wearable bronzers, merged blushers, baked bronzer and 2 merged baked highlighters. Simply gorgeous & incredibly pigmented, for £6 it’s such a bargain.

MUR2

Makeup Revolution - eye makeup haul

5 Baked Eye Shadows in Electric Dreams: I have hunted shelves high & low for that perfect pigmented purple, and just when I thought it wasn’t to be Makeup Revolution save the day with this little beauty. Five glorious colours ranging from soft shimmering lilac to an intense deep purple. These shadows are so intense they almost seem foiled in consistency – particularly when used with a wet brush for an even more striking finish. At £2.50 they are more than worth the investment!

Link To Buy: http://www.makeuprevolutionstore.com/makeup/eyes/eyeshadow/5-baked-eyeshadows/5-baked-eyeshadows-electric-dreams.html

Amazing Eyeliner in Stardust: I confess, I very rarely (if ever) wear kohl eyeshadow on my lids but tend to reserve it for my water line when I’m dressing my eyes up for a sassy night out (which, funnily enough, is another rarity). However glitter Kohl liners have always intrigued me and having had a few bad encounters in the past they’ve been something I’ve naturally migrated away from…

MUR Eyeliner pencil

Yet something told me this little guy with the built in sharpener would change all that… thank you intuition – you done me proud!! Such a great liner that works perfectly when smoked out. The flecks of glitter aren’t too intense but not subtle enough to completely disappear depending on how you build or blend it. It didn’t crumble or make me work to get colour payoff. £1 well spent I’d say ladies 😉

MUR3

Makeup Revolution - ultra velour lips

Ultra Velour Lip Cream in Their Eyes Can’t Find Us: A velour matte lip cream with a beautiful wash of colour. From the moment of application I knew I’d fallen head over heels – even the sweet fudge cake smell of the formula is enough to win your heart before it even touches the lips. Okay, so the colour didn’t make it the full 8 hours for me, but with it feeling and smelling so darn good I certainly wasn’t grumbling when it came to re-applying. Available for a jaw dropping £3!

MUR5

Truthfully the quality, affordability, pigmentation and formula of the entire selection is without a doubt WOW. If you’re looking to top up your makeup stash with high quality products that won’t break the bank then I’m pretty sure you’ll be back-flipping with joy when your Makeup Revolution order arrives. Beautifully presented and a great colour payoff, it’s absolutely no surprise that beauty guru’s across the globe are stocking up their cosmetic kits with this fantastic range!

Battle of the Micellar Waters… Which Works Best?

Micellar Water Review

As much as I quite often adore my nightly cleansing regime, there’s some evenings that (let’s be honest gals) I just can’t be bothered with going overboard with the facial scrubs, or have decided upon a make-up free day and all I want to do is reach for my Micellar Water for a quick freshen up. The great thing about always having a bottle of Micellar Water close to hand is besides the fact that it’s a quick & easy peasy way to cleanse your face, it’s also widely known to be gentle on sensitive skin, a quick way to invigorate your face after a gruelling gym session or just for those lazy days…like the one’s I have much too often!

But which brand is best to buy? With Micellar Waters really taking off in recent months it seems every household name (supermarkets included) are jumping head first onto the cleansing water bandwagon. So with that in mind my mission began as I scoured the skin care shelves of my local stores to see what was on offer that was both affordable and easily picked up should I need a top up.

If truth be told, I wasn’t actually expecting much of a difference, after all how diverse could bottles of water really be? Surely they’d all be much of a muchness, right? Wrong. Comparing costs, with overall results I was pretty surprised by some of my findings. So if you’re on the hunt for a stash of Micellar Water then get yourself comfy and keep reading as I attempt to uncover which works best…

Brand:  Boots Botanics All Bright Micellar 3 in 1 Cleansing Lotion

Size of bottle:  250ml

RRP:   £4.49

Pros & Cons:  Initially it was the pretty packaging that initially caught my eye. I love the clear bottle very subtly detailed with pictures of flowers, embracing that it’s been created alongside Kew Royal Botanical Gardens. This felt incredibly fresh on my skin and left no obvious signs of agitation whatsoever. It also done a wonderful job of removing my make-up quick and easily, without any residue.

Just be careful when opening, the bottle neck is quite open so a much higher chance of spillage!

Works Best For: Dull skin that needs a little bit of cheering up.

Size of bottle:  200ml

RRP:   £3.69

Pros & Cons:  I’ve been a huge fan of Nivea for quite some time now, and have to say they’ve rarely disappointed in quality and affordability. Their Micellar water worked a treat for me, removing my make-up quickly and effortless ease. My skin felt always felt really refreshed and smooth after cleansing. Overall a great water and well worth trying out!

Works Best For: Those with normal/dry skin, however can feel a little tightening on super-sensitive skin

Works Best For: Possibly those who wear very little/no makeup.

Pros & Cons:  As much as I hate to admit it, I’m really struggling to find positive feedback on this product. Firstly the packaging just doesn’t cut it for me. Compared to other products it looks outdated, bland and suspiciously like a bottle of nail varnish remover.  As for the formula it really wasn’t much better as it felt oily, greasy and had a hint of perfume (which I assume is the chemical ingredients) even though it claims to be fragrance free. Not great at removing eye make-up either though it did an okay job at removing foundation. Sorry Superdrug, back to the drawing board with this one!

Works Best For: The brand seems directed at a more mature customer base, with it’s elegant packaging and classic typography. Best suited to those with combination skin that don’t wear heavy eye make-up or lashing of waterproof mascara.

Pros & Cons:  Lovely packaging, adore the clear bottle – always gives an obvious indication of how much is left before hitting empty. Seemingly marketed for the slightly more ‘mature’ customer, however great for skin of any age in my opinion. Done a reasonably decent job of removing make-up, though struggled a little with mascara and darker coloured shadows. Also noticed that my skin felt a little tighter than usual after using.

Works Best For: Anyone with sensitive skin or prone to occasional breakouts.

Pros & Cons:  This seems a great brand for younger or troublesome skin – in fact my 10 year old daughter loves using this regularly as she has incredibly sensitive skin that flares up with most face soaps, yet Simple’s skin care range has never given her anything to grumble about. However for me (with non trouble-some pores) oddly enough I didn’t take to this as well as some of the others. Don’t get me wrong it done a great job at removing make-up effectively however there always felt like a slight residue on my face afterwards. Otherwise it was great to use, and I’d certainly recommend it to those looking a nifty cleanser for highly sensitive skin!

Brand:  Asda The Skin System Micellar Water

Asda Skin System Micellar Water

Description:  “Deeply cleanse dry and sensitive skin with Asda Skin Systems’ Micellar Cleansing Water. With added Chamomile Extract to gently and effectively cleanse without leaving skin feeling dry or tight. This mild and caring formula is specially formulated with Aloe Vera, Pro Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E to help nourish and care for skin. Hypoallergenic and Dermatologically Tested. Can be used on all skin types.”

RRP:  £1.50

Link to Purchase:  http://groceries.asda.com/product/facial-cleansing/asda-the-skin-system-micellar-cleansing-water/910002014376

Works Best For: Hmm, tough skin that’s pretty resilient to sensitivity (?) Hard to recommend this brand as it was quite harsh after multiple uses.

Pros & Cons:  Didn’t like this at all gals. Firstly, another bottle that looks almost twinned with my Tesco nail varnish remover. Formula seems harsh and very ineffective at removing both my mascara and full coverage foundation, ended up using it as a second stage cleanser after washing my face with Olay facial scrub. Almost always left my skin feeling tight & sensitive in patches.Would probably be better used as a cleanser if just wearing BB cream or something a little lighter, such as nothing at all!

Brand:  Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

Garnier Micellar Water

Description: “A super efficient and gentle way to cleanse, remove makeup, soothe the feel of skin and hydrate in just one step – it’s not magic, it’s Garnier Micellar!

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water contains micelles which act like magnets, gently lifting away makeup and impurities from the skin, without the need to rub or rinse. The result?

Beautifully cleansed and refreshed feeling skin in an instant. The formula is suitable for the face, eye area and lips, has no perfume and comes in a generous 400ml size.”

(Source: Boots Website)

Size of bottle:  400ml

RRP: £4.99

Link to Purchase:  http://www.boots.com/en/Garnier-Micellar-Cleansing-Water-400ml_1440752/

Works Best For: Pretty much everyone and anyone! Great on a multitude of skin types however if you’re prone to breakouts or have super sensitive skin opt for the Green Bottle version as it’s targeted for use with those issues.

Pros & Cons:  I absolutely LOVE the Garnier Cleansing water. It’s such good value at a huge 400ml bottle for under a £5, however be sure to look around as often either Tesco, Superdrug or Boots will have it on offer. They also have a tiny travel bottle size which is ideal for popping into your gym or travel bag! This water does an outstanding job of removing all types of make-up & daily general build up, leaving skin feeling totally refreshed without any tightness, dryness or typical sensitivity reaction. Such great value & love the pretty packaging too. No cons for this clear winner. Woo hoo!

Review: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel…

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel

My mission: to find a swoon-worthy gel polish for my desperately weak and fickle nails! Could Sally Hanson’s Miracle Gel really live up to the hype & expectations? It certainly looked alluring as I turned the corner in my local Superdrug Store to be confronted with a blinding array of little coloured bottles jumping out from the pristinely arranged stand. Seemingly at the time I wasn’t the only one who was lured in by its visual wonderment, as a girl beside me turned and asked if I had tried it before. “Nope, but I think I’ll give it a go…” was my reply, as she seemed to mentally debate over the price tag compared to some of the other drug store bargains.

I for one was drawn towards the shade Totemly-Yours, a soft nude that would be the perfect tone for starting my new job. It’s chic, feminine & sophisticated – exactly the look I was hoping for. So with fingers crossed that it would look every bit the professional gel finish, I wandered happily towards the cashier so I could treat my disastrous digits to a mini make-over of the Sally Hansen kind.

Wanna check out my results? Then let’s get started…

£9.99 for the base colour & £9.99 for the gel top coat… quite an investment for a drug store offering in my humble opinion. I certainly had my fingers firmly crossed that it would be a winner!

Step 2: Apply 1 coat of Miracle Gel™ Top Coat *

2 Steps: with a base colour of over 45 delicious shades, Sally fans are certainly spoilt for choice – and the colours are incredibly beautiful. It really is tough narrowing down the choices!

Easy Removal: One swipe and it’s off. Really, it’s that easy.

No UV light required: That’s right ladies, a glossy finish without the need for any expensive gadgets!

Great self-levelling: As my nails are pretty much the furthest thing from smooth due to breakage etc It takes a really good formula to settle into the humps and bumps and smooth everything out. This done a pretty impressive job of making my nails bed look evened out and much healthier than before application.

.

Sally h 05

Gel? What gel? For the price (£20 for the base colour & gel top coat combined) I expected a gorgeous glossy gel finish for an entire fortnight… what I got however was a few days of high-shine that slowly merged into what looked like a standard glossy polish. Shiney yes, but not entirely gel-like.

Drying Time: Prepare to set up camp for the evening gals as this stuff stays tacky for what feels like a small lifetime. 2 hours later and I was still hesitant about touching things for fear of it ruining my new mani. Most certainly not for those in a hurry!

Longevity: 14 days you say Sally? Hmm, not this bottle huni. The results for me were (almost) the same amount of chips & wear as a standard polish after the end of week 1. What happened to 14 days of glorious gel-ness? *sigh*

Cost: Above all I really think my biggest bug-bearer lies with the cost. It’s not that the product is particularly bad… it’s an incredibly pretty polish and looks rather pleasing to the eyeballs! However for me the spend doesn’t justify the overall finish and longevity. Sure it may be a little more longer lasting than a standard polish, but not by a long shot.

If you’re eager for a gel like finish I’d save the hassle and book an appointment with a local nail salon as it would most likely last a good few weeks beyond what Sally promises in her Miracle Gel. Having said that, if you’re on the lookout for a very pretty finish that you’re aiming to get 4/5 days wear out of before it begins to show signs of tiredness (and don’t mind the over-spend) then go right ahead. Personally, I think I might just stick to letting the nail technician work her magic to save me the effort! Sorry Sally, I usually love your products but the Miracle Gel just hasn’t won me over *sob*
