Christmas Nail Art: Santa Claws

christmas-nails

The countdown is officially on… Only 5 more sleeps (as Em’s constantly reminds me) til the man in the big red suit & fluffy white beard makes an appearance at the Confetti & Curves HQ.

Surprisingly enough, this year’s taken me longer than anticipated to find my Christmas sparkle. Maybe it’s the queues of stressed out shoppers, my lack of patience when it comes to waiting for parcels or perhaps (and most likely) it’s down to the fact I haven’t had my Christmas tipple to officially declare the festivities open. Hopefully, all that will change this evening as schools are now off for the jolly hols which means it’s ‘okay’ to pour an extra large glass of something fruity and whilst flicking trough the channels to find a cheesy Christmas film.

However, to feed my obsession with all things sparkly, I took to giving my nails a bit of a seasonal makeover. Now although I’m not usually a fan of ‘themed’ nails, I’d be a bit of a nail grinch if I didn’t at least do a little something to get my fingers feeling a little more festive… it also gave me an opportunity to test out a few of my newly acquired goodies from my Secret Santa Swap Box – if you haven’t already seen it yet then *click here* to take a peek at what was inside!

 christmas-santa-hat-nails-a
The nails are actually a very short acrylic sculpt, as this year I’ll be hosting dins for all the family so I needed a length that won’t cause any mishaps with the turkey *rolls eyes* The gel polish colour I opted for is a vivid red by Saint Nails. Their range is fantastic for longevity when painting over acrylic, it’s also a great price point for nails techs looking to build their range of gel colours without breaking the bank!

christmas-santa-hat-nails-2a

For a fun, but simple Christmas inspired design I couldn’t wait to test drive my fancy schmancy Born Pretty BP01 plate. I just love the cute little snowflakes, that look really eye catching against the bright red gel!

santa-hat-christmas-nails

For a fun feature nail I opted for a simple little Santa hat! The red and white go perfectly with the above snowflake design, not to mention the fact it’s fun and super easy to do! I opted for Saint Nails gel polish over my acrylic overlays, however, this would be easily achievable with standard polish – just be sure to allow the layers drying time before top coating to help avoid any smudging!

christmas-nail-collage

So there we have it gals, I’m all ready for Christmas with my festive themed nails… I’m pretty sure they’d get Mrs Claus seal of approval too!

Bundle Monster Lotus Mat…

As a Nail Technician, I’m all for anything that makes my life a little easier – particularly when it comes to hand painting teeny tiny intricate designs that’s just about visible to the naked eye, swatching colours and figuring out what stamping polishes or glitters go best on dark or light contrasting backgrounds. But what could possibly offer all these helpful design aids in one handy dandy roll up gadget?! Cue the Bundle Monster Lotus Mat.

Apart from looking as pretty as silicone could be (and saving my beloved nail station from endless colourful mishaps) the Lotus Mat Nail Art Workstation has literally become one of my most frequently used nail art necessities. Okay, so I could battle on through without it, but the handy little features this mat has to offer will undoubtedly give a helping hand to experienced nail pro’s or budding nail art enthusiasts. Either way if you adore creating, stamping, painting and swatching then check out today’s YouTube chatter as I showcase one of my most cherished nail tools to date!

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Beauty, Lifestyle, and many wishlists

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I really can’t remember, it’s a bit fuzzy but all I can say is: best decision ever.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I recently changed my blog name because I felt like my old name wasn’t really coherent with my blog topics or who I wanted to be anymore so I thought for a good few weeks before I landed on Born To Be Bright.  It kind of means to be yourself and not change yourself for other people.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Only a few times, I usually try to plan out posts at least a few days in advance so I can put a lot of time and effort into my content and really be happy and proud of what I’m posting.  I have a running list of post ideas so I never really run out.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I really liked writing my Welcome back post, although I think there was a glitch and literally no one saw it oops.  I also really like writing makeup bag posts, those are always fun because I like to do them with my pal Makena!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Comfortable but still shows some effort.  I’ve been testing out 2 week capsules so by the time Spring rolls around I’ll have a super clear idea of what types of pieces I like to wear and I can shop effectively for my first real Capsule!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Origins SmartyPlants CC, life-changing light foundation for dry skin.

Clark’s Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask, the most life-altering product I’ve ever discovered despite the insane price tag.

Essie Master Plan, which is my favorite neutral nail polish.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I usually like to watch a few episodes of Friends, Gossip Girl, or take a shower then light a candle and catch up on blog posts.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Two choices: one is driving around with one of my best friends and having a good time singing along to music and talking then going to another friend’s house for some pizza and ping pong and the other is just catching up on everything like reading, watching some Gossip Girl and Friends, and painting my nails and cleaning up.  I like very low-key evenings.

.

What do you do to relax?

To relax I take long, hot showers with the best smelling bath products I own and again turn on a good TV show to take my mind off anything.  If I’m feeling anxious before I go to sleep I listen to some of my favorite songs for a while before I turn on Relax + with Andrew Johnson it seriously calms me down so much.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

It used to be biting my nails and when I’m nervous for a decent amount of time like a few days I turn back to it *glances down at short nails*.  Other than that, when I’m nervous about time management that’s when I start rubbing my face and we all know that that isn’t good so that is something I’m trying to stop.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

It’s not so much a memory as a person, my great-grandma is who I get my eye color from and we are the only two in the family with blue eyes.  She’s so inspirational to me and I can only remember a little bit of her from when I was young but she’s always been a role model to me since I can remember.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Definitely math, I’m one for a strictly right or wrong answer.  Formulas and calculations were always my strong suit, even though most people hate it.

.

What’s your dream job?

I’d love to do this for the rest of my life, I love blogging and the community around it.  If that isn’t possible I like to learn bits and pieces of code and would love to work on web design as a possible career path.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I will be in my third or last year of college and by then I hope to be going to school abroad full time, I’d love to go to Australia, Norway, or Germany.  I have wanted to live abroad when I got older for quite a while.  My aunt always inspired me to do so, she moved to Australia a few years out of college and has been living there happily since.  I think her and I are similar in mentality and personality so I hope I can do it too.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

  1. Travel as much as I possibly can all around Europe and Australia
  2. Go to as many concerts as I can specifically the 1975
  3. Learn 2 languages fluently (Spanish and either French or German)
  4. Learn to cook some pretty kick butt homemade things like homemade noodles and pasta sauce
  5. Find what makes me happy and stick with it

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I think it might be investing in my blog for the first time and renaming it.  I was up until 2 or 3 AM so many nights trying to figure things out and I really think that it was an achievement for me to do so much all by myself.  I am no computer genius so I think that getting my blog set up on a new platform alone and actually investing in it really has been one of my biggest achievements.

.

Who inspires you?

People who can balance friends, family, and work inspire me, also people that have really become life-long learners and aren’t just done learning after high school or college.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.  Henry Ford

I hope you live a life you’re proud of.  F. Scott Fitzgerald

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Firstly, do it.  Secondly, don’t do what everyone else is doing, in other words, be who you are.  We read blogs to get your honest opinion and thoughts, we don’t want you to change what you have to say so it agrees with everyone else.

.

However, enough from me – time to chat to the lady herself. As always, grab your cuppa, curl up and enjoy getting to know the girl Behind The Blog

Dannie

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Style, Photo, Food (hence the name), beauty, and lifestyle!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Very specifically, Rosie the Londoner and Damsel in Dior. Then I started exploring the blogging community as a whole and went “Hell yeah, I want to be part of this!”

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Stile.Foto.Cibo translated from Italian is “style.photo.food” because those were the three things I wanted to focus on. Were I to do it again, I would probably have replaced “stile” with “moda,” the Italian word for fashion but I love my name all the same. I love the ring it has to it.

I went with Italian because it’s the language I took in high school and college and I just love it. I have to brush up on it before I decide to go venturing off to Italy, though. Lol!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Ugh, all the time! I have a notebook in my purse at all times with a pen and a pencil so I can take down any ideas I get throughout the day or sketch outfits I want to make and such.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Fishtail French Braid Updo, Blanket Scarves, and Doggy Debut!

This one was so much fun to shoot and write. We’d just adopted our dog, went for a super long walk, and took a ton of photos on the way. Half the excitement of blog posts is the work that goes into writing them and this one was particularly fun. Though I have a few in the works coming up that could just as easily take first place for favorite.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I’m a big fan of casual with dressy highlights. Jeans and a t-shirt paired with heels and a pretty necklace is a dream!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Ooh, this is a tough one as I just got a ton of really great beauty stuff for pretty cheap.

I’m a huge fan of my em cosmetics bronzer and blush. I went for a bolder palette than I normally would and I’m loving the results! It’s Coral Temptations for those wondering.

I’m also loving this mascara from e.l.f.

And this nail polish from Julep!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I’m such a fan of baths. A bubbly lavender bath with Epsom salts, candles, a glass of wine, and a good book is the fast track to relaxing for me. But as I usually don’t get home from work until midnight or later and often am waking up around 6:30, I settle for snuggles with my lady and my dog.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

As I work in the entertainment industry, Saturday nights are when I’m working so those who have traditional work weeks can go out and enjoy themselves! Were I not working most Saturday nights, my ideal would probably dinner at a favorite restaurant, drinks at my favorite pub, then either seeing a show or going home and having a few friends over. My ideal Saturday night based on my work week’s equivalent of a Saturday (which usually ends up being Wednesday night) is cooking at home and relaxing with my lady and some wine.

.

What do you do to relax?

Baths, puppy cuddles, and beach walks!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Nail and cuticle biting! You’ll notice I almost never post or talk about my nails at all. They’re so bad. I know it’s a bad habit and I’m trying so hard to stop biting them (with wedding motivation currently fuelling that fire) but it’s so hard!

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Going to the zoo with my mom. We were members at one of the zoos here in Chicago so every week during the summer we would hop in the car and go to the zoo. We would go straight to the dolphins and sit and watch them for hours.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Choir/Music.

.

What’s your dream job?

Going to get real specific here. My absolute dream job would be to become a rare books & manuscripts conservator working at the British Library Conversation Studio. Fun fact, I have a Master’s in Library and Information Science. I love love love working with old and rare books and I love doing preservation and conservation on them. I got to visit the studio in 2013 and instantly knew where I wanted to work. It’s a super lofty goal but everyone’s gotta have big dreams, right?

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully at least living in London if not working in conservation in London. If not, just doing my theatre stage manager thing here in Chicago.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I don’t know that I have a specific bucket list, per se, just things I really want to do.

Visit Firenze, Italia.

Live in London permanently

Travel everywhere I have the opportunity to

Marry my fantastic lady. (oh wait, that’s happening!)

Climb more mountains.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

This is a super loaded question! I’m going to go with having some marked success stage managing. Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be on stage. Now I sort of am! But in a way that suits me much better. I think ten-year-old me would be proud of current me.

.

Who inspires you?

Everyone around me! People who are excited about what they are doing and who are fully present and engaged in their work inspire me. People who bring enthusiasm into their daily lives. People who aren’t afraid to make eye contact and smile at strangers in the street.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Get up, show up, and never give up.”

Sometimes the sheer act of getting out of bed is near impossible. But I know that if I get up and get to the job at hand, it will get done and I will feel better. Helps to dress like a beast, too.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just do it! Even if you’re not aiming to make a career out of it (I would like to one day), just do it. If it makes you happy, if it’s something that you can be present and engaged in, then do it!

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Both! A time for tea and a time for coffee.

Coke or Pepsi = Coke, 100%

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = I’m a librarian and a stage manager. If I’m not super organized, call for help.

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = I’m a dog person if there ever one. Give me a wiggly tail any day!

Night In or Night Out = There’s a time and place for both but I have preference for nights in with wine, homecooked food, a book/movie, and my lady.

Heels or Flats = So long as I’m not working backstage, heels all the way!

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = tough call. Gonna go with lipstick.

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Rock chick!

Paperback or E-book = [puts on librarian voice] I have a preference for paperbacks but I understand and appreciate the place of e-books in giving easier access to books.

It’s packed full of fantastic features on everything from beauty to crafts that’s sure to keep even the most wandering of mind well and truly captivated. So do pop over and check her out, but not before you’ve settled down with a cuppa to find out more about the lovely lady herself…

Britney Lee

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

DIY, style, beauty, sewing, life.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I had been following blogs for a while and they were always inspiring me to try a new hair curling technique, or a new craft, or just made me feel the warm fuzzies. One day I just realized I want to be that kind of person for others! I want to inspire and teach others to do things that they didn’t think they could do. And then I started my blog and realized how much fun putting a post together is and how much I LOVE the blogging community. It’s pretty freakin’ amazing.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I didn’t know what focus I wanted my blog to have (sewing, diy, beauty, fashion, lifestyle) and I have SO many different things that I love so I just decided that I wanted my blog to have an all-encompassing name and so “all things britney lee” kinda just happened. I decided to use my first and middle name because it just sounded good when I said it. You know how certain phrases or words just sound better than others? It sounded better than with just my first name. I am continually thinking of different names though so it could change! haha

 .

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh no! How am I supposed to pick this?! It’s like picking your favourite child! I can’t do it! Honestly, I try to only write posts that are my favourite. Which is probably why I don’t blog super often…or it’s because I am unorganized lol

the last post I wrote was about my pretty hunter green peplum top that I made for all the holiday parties and it was so much fun to show all my lovely friends my outfit! My little sister and I had so much fun taking photos of each other and my mini pro photographer did so well! Heres that post: https://allthingsbritneylee.wordpress.com/2014/12/30/pretty-party-peplum/

 .

Describe your everyday clothes style:

It depends on what I am doing that day…if I am working then I am wearing all black (the uniform of a hairstylist lol) and it is either a pencil skirt and loose top or skinny ponte knit pants and a loose top. I try to find unique pieces with cool textures like sequins, fun details like studs and pockets or white polka dots on it or something.

If I am not working then I am either in jeans and a cute tee for when I have to run errands, or I am in sweat pants and a super comfy graphic tee when I am at home and don’t have to see anyone’s face!

I have to say that I am not very happy with my wardrobe. I only really LOVE about 10% of my clothing. I have a goal to create a wardrobe I love this year and I want it to be mostly handmade! And just so you know, I am going to blog about that.   😉

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

1) Too Faced Melted lipsticks. I AM OBSESSED WITH THEM AND I WANT EVERY COLOR. They hit all the good points: long lasting, amazing color payoff, easy to apply, not shiny but not matte, doesn’t dry out your lips super bad. It is the best.

2) I.T.Cosmetics under eye bye bye under eye concealer. It’s a miracle worker!

3) all my NYX lip butters and butter glosses. Color payoff is AMAZING and they feel like BUTTER! (duh lol)

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to take my shoes and bra off and put on comfy clothes (like the aforementioned sweats and graphic tee) and I love to eat Nutella. Straight out the jar. I love to read blogs and peruse Pinterest too!

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Saturday night is the only night during the week that my husband and I spend together because he is in college full-time and works full-time…so I love to spend it with him. One thing that we have been doing quite a bit is going to the movie theatre. There is this super amazing one that we love to go to that has yummy nachos and instead of those small crappy seats you get your own personal comfy recliner chair. AND you when you buy your tickets you choose were you want to sit and those seats are RESERVED! It’s so magical.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I procrastinate way too much…and I’m sooooo lazy.

 .

What was your favourite school subject?

I was always in some sort of choir class throughout schooling and those were always my absolute favourite! And I’m one of those weird people that actually liked math…yeah yeah I know…I’m crazy.

 .

What’s your dream job?

You know what…I haven’t figured that out yet. I know that I want to be teaching and inspiring people my whole life. When I figure it out I will let you know!

 .

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself having at least one kid. Maybe working on my second one. Hopefully I stick to blogging and I will have learned how the heck to make all the different kinds pf posts I want to like picture and video tutorials that look amaze and sponsored posts! (mama’s gotta pay for all those diapers)

I hope to still be doing hair professionally whether it’s just for my close friends and fam or for more people.

That’s as much as I have thought about! Everything else can do whatever it needs/ wants t do. Those are the things that I want to make happen!

 .

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I love all sorts of quotes! but my recent favourite says:

“Anything is possible if you’ve got enough nerve” – J.K.Rowling

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I actually wrote a blog post about this for a blogging challenge I did in September and I still feel the same now! Read it here: https://allthingsbritneylee.wordpress.com/2014/09/29/day-twenty-nine-blogging-tips/

 .

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = I don’t drink either

Coke or Pepsi = I don’t drink soda anymore but my favourite is cherry coke!

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = SUPER ORGANIZED

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = I’m allergic to both!

Night In or Night Out = Night in. with netflix

Heels or Flats = Flats all the way.

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = lipstick (too faced melted lipstick to be exact!)

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = I think I listen to pop more than rock but I love both!
