The Manicure Menu: Lush Lilacs…

Lilac Nail Polish Collection

If there’s one colour I always feel drawn to when shopping for nail polish, it’s lilac. Okay, so some often see it as a bit wishy-washy but in my opinion it’s beeeeautiful. Girly but not tooooo girly, soft enough to go with most outfits, a great everyday colour, works in summer, works in winter… particularly in some of the gorgeous icy shades *swoon*

So to pay homage to such a versatile shade, I’ve showcased some of my very own luscious lilacs and prettiest purples! Sitting comfy? Then let’s take a closer peek at today’s mani menu…

.

Barry M Chameleon Nail Polish in Lilac

Barry M Chameleon Lilac Nail Polish

A gorgeous icy- grey is what this can only be described as. It really is a stunning multi-tonal shade that has to be seen in real-life to be fully appreciated! I quite often wear these colours in winter as they’re just so fresh and crisp, however these cool tones are equally beautiful for summer months and go with so many outfit colours too! Ideal for those who love metallics but prefer just a slight whisper of lilac. For extra longevity coat nails with a layer of micro sparkle polish… it’ll help lift the icy tone, bring out the metallics and keep your colour as long-lasting as possible!

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine in Prickly Pear

Barry M Gelly Shine in Prickly Pear

For me this is the classic ‘lavender’ tone. It’s so darn pretty, and surprisingly beautiful on soft tanned tootsies – if anything it makes the tan stand out just a little bit more. A classic holiday shade, this is one shade of lilac I never get tired of wear. The formula of the Gelly Shine could be a little thicker in my opinion as it can be quite streaky unless several coats are applied, however if worn correctly & with a high quality top-coat this can look amazing. I love it ❤

Rimmel London 60 Second Super Shine in Lovey dovey

Rimmel London 60 Second Shine in Lovely Dovey

I love, love, LOVE this colour. Rimmel always seem to get their shades bang on trend, and how cute is the name?! A classic soft berry shade this beautiful polish can actually look quite deep compared to the bottle. For me this is the perfect playful purple shade for summery themed nails. It’s bright and beautiful – a treat to wear all year round in fact. Check out the huuuuge range of colours on the Rimmel London website in the link below!

Avon Nail Wear Pro

Avon Nail Wear Pro

This colour always reminds me of Parma Violets, do you remember those strange little sweeties that taste suspiciously like wild flowers? Natually it smells nothing like them but as for the nail colour it’s a stunner. Soft grey undertones make it such a great colour for everyone. It’s not too girly, yet still eludes a touch of sweet femininity. Is there any colour this shade wouldn’t work with right now? Okay, so the formula could be a little longer lasting considering it’s branded as a ‘pro’ product, however with a great top coat it’s pretty resilient up to about 4/5 days before any wear or tear starts showing. Pretty standard, but the tone wins me over every time 🙂

New York Color In A Minute Nail Polish in Prince Street

NYC Quick Dry Nail Polish in Prince Street

Okay, so it’s not (exactly) lilac… but…. never-the-less it’s SUCH a gorgeous shade of purple that’s perfect for a night on the town, a rich sassy colour for summer or deep dressy tone for winter. All in all it’s the ideal purple, and if truth be told one of the most popular shades I ever sold in bridesmaid dresses when I owned my bridal suites. But then, who could resist such an amazing shade? It’s a collection staple for sure as not only does it work well with bright coloured outfits, it also works incredibly well with neutral colours too. A pop of Prince Street & a pair of nude peep-toe stilettos = utterly stunning gals ❤

NYC Shine In A Minute ‘Prince Street’ Nail Polish…

Cadbury Purple Coloured Nails

There’s no denying it… purple is one of those lusted after colours that 99.9% of us have a weakness for. Regardless of whatever your favourite tone happens to be, purple has well earned its credentials as a show stopper amongst a wealth of individual styles. However, one of the most iconic shades of purple is undoubtedly ‘Cadbury’ purple. In fact, 4 years ago when I was the proud owner of my bridal boutique, it was BY FAR the most requested colour of bridesmaid dresses by brides both near & far. Of course it doesn’t surprise me; I mean, all you have to do is roll your eye balls over it to ignite a dose of swoon factor.

So when I spotted this amazing shade lurking rather sassily on the NYC stand in Superdrug, there was no question that it would end up straight in the shopping basket. Again I’m agast to find that I’ve harboured nothing like it previous in my collection. I’ve a multitude of bedazzling purple’s from lilac to plum, but the iconic Cadbury shade? No where to be found… I know, I know… #WhatTheFudge ?!

NYC Prince Street Nail Polish

So here it is in all it’s glory, the beautiful Prince Street from NYC. I must admit the name throws me a little, personally I’d wanna tie it in to the choccie bar… after all everyone recognises ‘that’ colour, but not one to dis someone’s creativity in nail polish naming we’ll not raise too much of an eyebrow.

Cadbury Purple Coloured Nails 2

This luscious polish is actually part of the ‘Shine In A Minute’ collection, which (you guessed it) claims to dry in 60 seconds. Fast AND fabulous looking? Surely that can’t be?! Well, kind of… yes, the initial first coat dries in a minute but considering it’s a pretty weak colour when first applied you just know it’s going to take a good 3 coats to get it built up to the same consistency as the colour in the bottle; which I have to say is incredibly surprising considering the formula is relatively thick. In fact I’ve had much runnier polishes that are considerably more opaque on their first stroke. Bit of a baffler if truth be told. Naturally, the more coats applied the longer the drying time. Whatever you do don’t give this a go in a hurry… unless you’re secretly wishful for  a multitude of smudges and sticky nails.

NYC New York Color Prince Street Nail Polish

As for the Longevity, I’m impressed. At a mere £1.79 you really couldn’t grumble about this polish. The packaging is fun but chic, the consistency of the formula isn’t too runny, the shade is most certainly buildable, the finish has a healthy shine to it & it’s thee most beautiful colour. Having worn it for 4 full days I can safely say there’s no signs of chipping, however I would suggest adding a little clear top coat throughout the week to keep the colour looking fresh, shiny & vibrant.

NYC Shine In A Minute

All in all a superb buy for such a pocket friendly price. I’d definitely be happy to recommend to any purple polish purchaser!

The Make-Up Menu: Perfectly Plum

Plum Makeup

Hey Beauty Buddies…

I seem to be lusting after plum colours right now, which is no shock whatsoever considering that autumn is my favourite time of the year. After almost an hour perusing the shelves of my local Superdrug store I invested my hard earned pennies in a few new delicious little items that would suit my pale skin & fall wardrobe perfectly; and there’s nothing quite like a splash of sumptuous plums and playful purples this time of the year! Let’s check out the menu…

DSC01102

1) Nivea Rich Moisturisning Day Cream: I always apply a small amount of this cream before adding my foundation. I find it helps keep my skin feeling hydrated & my make-up last longer. The perfect primer in my opinion!

2) Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte Foundation in Warm Ivory: Words cannot describe just how much I’m currently loving this foundation. Although it’s a full coverage matte formula it glides on with such ease, looks flawless, matches my skin perfectly and stay fresh looking throughout the entire day & night!

3) Collection Gorgeous Glow Blush Block: This is such a creamy blush that just seems to contain the perfect amount of glow and dewy looking shimmer to brighten up the apples of my cheeks. Hands down my favourite budget buy of the year… yes it’s THAT good.

4) L’Oreal Lumi Magique in Shade no. 2 Medium: I’m still currently in the testing stages of the Lumi Magique, but so far it hasn’t blown my socks off with the results… however it is a nice creamy formula & I am a fan of the brush applicator as opposed to the usual doe-foot. It does brighten up under my eyes, however for a fraction of the price the MUA dupe done a virtually identical job for a fraction of the price.

5) Sleek Face Form Contour Palette in Fair: Yet another new addition to my collection! When I initially tried this out I wasn’t entirely sure about the colour pay-off… it almost seemed to immediately evaporate into my skin without a hint of colour. Now that I’ve used it a few times I’m building up a much better relationship with it… shall keep you update on my final thoughts soon!

1) Soap & Glory Archery Pencil: The well established dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. This pencil is a super quick way of taming the brows; it gives a softly groomed finish that’s incredibly natural looking.

2) Seventeen Eye Eye in Funfair: This looks suspiciously like a mini blush pot in the picture rather than an eye-shadow. Unfortunately the camera isn’t picking up the gorgeous rose gold multi-tonal sheen, but I find it the perfect transition shade for blending softly into the crease.

3) Seventeen Eyes Trio in Enchanted Smoke: A trio of autumnal shades for the perfect blend of plum, soft goldy pink and shimmering olive green. Gorgeous.

4) Maxfactor Wild Shadow Pots in Vicious Purple: I adore this little single pot of purple goodness, it really lifts the lid by adding a layer of shimmering deep lilac… perfectly compliments rich plum tones.

5) MaxFactor False Lash Effect in Black: What a find… all thanks to the lovely Anne over at Doves & Roses for her recommendation – this gal really knows a thing or two about quality alternatives to high-end spending! I have literally fallen head over heels for this powerful lash lengthener. The rich black formula adds lashings of volume from root to tip and really does leave your lashes looking every bit as dramatic as falsies. Well worth the investment!

6) Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light: I know, I know… it’s not exactly an eye product but I find this concealer exceptionally superb for tidying round my freshly sculpted brows for a clean shapely finish. Best applied with a small concealer brush & steady hand 😉

7) Rimmel Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner: With its ultra fine brush this jet black liner requires super precise application so shaky hands beware! My absolute staple liner – nothing has came close to rivalling it’s staying power and sleek finish. A make-up must have for any winged liner lover.

1) Collection Work The Colour Lip Butter in Perfectly Plum: Just as the name suggests, this really is the perfect shade of plum for a pop of autumnal colour. Even the palest of skin can rock this sassy shade as it’s not too dark to drain the complexion. It’s super moisturising and makes the ideal balmy top coat to keep your lips feeling totally hydrated.

2) MUA Power Pout Acrylic in Potency: For those of you who love a deep damson coloured lip the ultra rich colour of this liquid style lippy is fierce. Incredible staying power I put a very light layer and blotted it heavily with a tissue before apply my balmy top coat of Collection lip butter (see above details) Beware ladies, this colour applied straight from the tube isn’t for the faint hearted!

Passionate for Purple?

Passionate for Purple profile image

Purple is by far one of my favourite wedding colour themes. It’s sassy, classy and full of visual flavour so it’s no surprise that in recent years it’s became one of the top requested colours by brides all over the world. From soft lilac hues to rich Cadbury tones – purple is an instant hit that can exquisitely compliment all four glorious seasons.

However as we’re all feeling a little festive now that December has arrived, I thought I’d put together a post of inspiration for all you lovely ladies out there who are either planning a trip down the aisle, dreaming of it, or just like me – done it but still swooning over the finer details!

So without further ado, I bring a purple coloured sprinkle of inspiration for all you like minded ladies who relish in the thought of combining this beautiful tone with such a cheery time of year…

The Dress

Firstly, if you’re planning a purple winter wonderland themed affair you’ll probably want a dress that suits the occasion. I found this amazing a-line gown by the award winning Sonsie range from Veromia. It boasts the most beautifully detailed bateau neckline that gives an elegant visual with the sweetheart effect, but as a curvy girl I like a little bit of coverage without being too smothered in fabric and this is the perfect compromise… how pretty is the bodice detailing? *sigh*

SON91465-01

The one thing I love about Sonsie is the quality behind every gown – it’s exquisite. And as a responsible ex-retailer & supporter of local businesses make sure you visit their website to get a list of authorised stockists, rather than opting for an inferior internet copy that could potentially cost you heartache and money!

The Jewellery

If you’re opting for purple, why not incorporate hints of colours into your wedding accessories? This delicate lilac charm bracelet, necklace and earring range by Julieanne is the perfect way to playfully add your favourite shade into your ensemble. I love the range of purple tones and with prices starting from £19.50 for such beautifully crafted handmade items, they’re a must-have! Of course items like this can be worn time and time again after the big day so you’re able to always make use of your stunning accessories; rather than hiding them away in a jewellery cabinet for years to come.

The Shoes

Of course no outfit would be completely without a dazzling pair of party feet – and this isn’t the time to get all tootsie shy girls! A statement pair of coloured stilettos has been fast becoming the rage amongst brides for quite some time now, and with high street stores awash with so many lavish designs it’s not hard to find yourself feeling just as excited as the iconic Carrie Bradshaw would be. I’m personally in love with this designer pair from Alexander McQueen. I know, I know – you’re lost for words right?! *deep breaths*

The Maids

One of the things I love most about this sassy shade is the fact that’s is so darn versatile. Literally any shape, size, skin or hair tone can pull off purple with ease – unlike many of the other shades on a colour chart. Purple is incredibly flattering and with a multitude of seriously beautiful hues you’re never stuck for choice. It can look amazing teamed up with other vibrant shades such as fuscia, merged with dazzling metallics, or kept classy with mono-tones such as black or ivory. Take a peek at this gorgeous trio of purple clad lovelies also available from D’Zage by Veromia… the striking colour, soft dipped neckline and flattering bodice that is gathered by a side embellishment makes for the perfect maids gown, don’t you think?

The Venue

I must say in all my experience of working with brides the venue is something that can easily overwhelm, thankfully wedding planners and venue designers are much more affordable and easy to come by these days, so if you’re stuck for inspiration the best place to start for guidance is your venue who will more than likely have their own wedding co-ordinator on site. For me this wonderful Purple Winter décor is an absolute visual stunner – just look at the detail, it’s like something from a Disney movie. Again, it shows how incredibly well purple and winter go hand-in-hand!

Purple Venue

The Little Details

As I was wading my way through images of inspiration, I came across this beautiful little picture of a table set with some cute clear/purple baubles that can also double as place settings. Aren’t they gorgeous? I’m also rather taken by the purple wine glass too – it’s all those fun little touches that bring the whole look together.

Purple table details

The Cake

Gone are the days of boring cake designs as the revolution of self taught bakers and cup-cake makers take over our social media news feeds and dominate our extra special occasions. However for me I still love the classic ivory cake finished off with just a pop of colour, and what better way to do this than with gorgeous purple sugar petals? Just look at how vibrant it sits against the traditionally classic cake. I’d happily renew my vows for this alone!! *hehe*

Purple Cake

The bouquet

Brooch bouquets are one of my all time favourite bridal accessories and this one by the talented Noaki absolutely blows me away – it’s utterly breathtaking. The wonderful thing about a brooch bouquet is not only is it something you can keep forever as a sentimental heirloom, you can also incorporate any little treasures from loved ones who aren’t able to join you on your special day.

Purple Brooch Bouquet

So there you have it, my little pearls of inspiration when it comes to planning a purple themed winter wedding – I hope you like all my top picks.

Is purple one of your favourite colours? What theme would you fall in love with? Whether you’re single, engaged or already hitched I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below…
