Behind The Blog featuring Teresa from Mama Muse Me…

Mama Muse Me

Happy Tuesday Beauty Buddies…

Okay, Okay, I admit – I may have put a scud on the mild November weather having been caught gloating about it on Sunday’s Keep Up With Karen post as ever since that post has been published it’s like mama nature has flicked a switch and sent nothing but howling wind and rain. On the plus side, it’s guilt free weather for dusting off the candles, lighting the fire, grabbing a cup of hot chocolate & snuggling down into a comfy chair… which I what I suggest y’all do right this very moment as I have the fabulous Teresa from Mama Muse Me joining me on the virtual sofa this morning!

Teresa’s blog pretty much sum up her positive & warm nature. Reading through her posts feels like you’re catching up with an old friend over a great cup of coffee. Maybe it’s her former career in journalism & promotional writing that makes her features such a great read? It’s chatty, inspirational & very much focused on creating a positive and welcoming online haven for anyone interested in a sprinkling of curvy couture, lifestyle & beauty musings.

Teresa Mama Muse Me

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

curvy fashion, creativity, encouragement, musings.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I was a journalist and promotional writer before I married my husband. I was very dedicated to my career and even won several state-level journalism awards. My husband and I dated long-distance and saw each other on the weekends while I continued my promotional writing career, but when I moved back to a rural area to marry him in my late 20s, I never found another solid writing job, even though I tried very hard. It was heart-breaking for me. The economy had a lot to do with it (it was a rough time for print journalists), and I also realized that, since I was ready to start a family, I had to be more selective about the hours I would work than I would have been in my single days. I did some freelance work, but eventually I decided to look seriously at teaching as a career path for myself. It seems like the doors are opening for me in that direction. Writing is still a passion of mine, so that is why I blog. I want to send my words out into the world. Yet, if some career doors had not closed, I probably would not have had the opportunity to stay home with my son full time, which has been priceless to me.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Mama Muse Me is word play. I was thinking about “muse” as inspiration, and I was also thinking about how the phrase sounds like “Mom, amuse me” since I spend a lot of days amusing my little guy.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

After I come up with an idea, the words usually flow pretty easily. I think this comes from writing on a deadline for many years. On the other hand, when I try to write fiction, that’s when I get writer’s block.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

It’s a tie between these two.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm, anything from Clinique, imPRESS Press-on Nails

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I usually don’t get to relax since I am a full time mom, and I’m working on my master’s degree (lol). When I do get some time, I like to read other people’s blogs or a good book.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

It would be a relaxed date night with my husband. We would go to dinner and a movie, take a walk, or come up with something else fun. Most of the time, Saturday nights are family time, but that is beautiful too.

.

What do you do to relax?

I go for a walk, drink chai tea, or read.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I used to show goats, chickens, and rabbits at the fair through 4-H. I was a farm girl.

.

Who inspires you?

Jesus, Melissa McCarthy, Rachael Ray, Jen Hatmaker, Steve Harvey (the comedian), Maggie Gobran, Tia and Tamera Mowry

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Walking, I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. “Be still,” they say. “Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands.” – Linda Hogan, Native American writer

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just start it! It probably will not make you rich or famous, but if you can handle that, you will be fine. If you want to make money or be famous, you will need advice from someone else!

Behind The Blog featuring Myra from The Plus Size Movement…

The Plus Size Movement

Howdy chums…

WHAT A DAY!!! Talk about nightmare Mondays… try breaking down miles from home at 7 am followed by a 5 hour wait in a freeeeeezing cold mechanics waiting room as my poor wee Florence (AKA my beloved Ford Focus) was slowly brought back to life with the help of a new alternator. Curse these mechanical gadgets that have nothing better to do than ruin my day! Thankfully I’m now fully thawed out & have a working car once again on my drive way *happy dance* If anything yesterday highlighted A) How much I take my little veee-hickle for granted, B) Car garage waiting rooms are a place of torture & grimness of immeasurable depths, C) WHO in their right frame of mind would electively want to make a career out of working with dirty cars in the freezing cold anyway? D) Actually, on hindsight, I’m incredibly grateful that folk out there do make that career choice… unsung hero’s the lot of them!

However, time for calmness & a steaming hot cuppa as I delight in introducing y’all to the gorgeous Myra, who’s kindly gracing the virtual sofa this nippy November morning, to give us a quick peek behind the scenes of her blog The Plus Size Movement. This curvacious beauty adores sharing posts about friends, lifestyle, body positivity & encouragement. One thing I love about Myra’s features is how incredibly genuine they are which gives such a warm & natural flow to her writing. It almost feels like you’re reading a letter from a friend or pen pal (anyone else remember the days of pen-pal letter writing?)

Anyways, enough gabbling from me; time to hand you over to the lady herself as we go Behind The Blog

Myra

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Honesty, body positivity, encouragement, motivation, personal experience

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I was looking for a blog that I can personally relate to but all the blog I kept finding had to do with either fashion or makeup. I’m plus size and I wanted to read about other plus size females and how they get through life. When I couldn’t find any blog like that, I decided to make a blog based on plus size but also body positivity and encouraging others to love who you are no matter the size. I wanted to touch on different topics and be honest about it.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blog name is The Plus Size Movement. I started thinking about how plus size and body positivity is becoming a current movement, thus the name. I loved the sound of it, it had a ring to it to me so I decided to use it.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

All the time!! Sometimes it is difficult trying to think of what should I write next. I overcome it by going into my thinking mode. I think of anything and everything that could possibly relate to my blog, I pick a thought and I run with it.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post to date is Validation to love yourself, it’s a poem about how we feel we need society’s approval to be beautiful.

http://wp.me/p5W8kT-2T

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

It definitely depends on how I am feeling for the day but my overall appearance is vintage inspired. I love vintage things so most of my clothes kind of look old fashion but modern. But I never fail to run to jeans and a t-shirt when I just want to be comfy.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My eyebrow makeup kit, my mascara, and my lipsticks.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

After a stressful day, most of the time I will stay in my room and just listen to music and watch movies. Food is usually involved of course.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Well I am an introvert, that night life is not my life. My perfect Saturday night would be doing anything but going to the club. I like going out to eat, going to the movies, bowling, laser tag, go kart riding, I’ll even settle for a water balloon fight, I’m a kid at heart. But sometimes I do appreciate my alone time and would rather stay home and relax or have a nice conversation with a friend.

.

What do you do to relax?

I have different things I like to do to relax but my top ones are listening to music and writing. Both provide me that escape into my own world.

 .

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I avoid talking about my problems. When it comes to other people, I encourage them to talk and remind them I’m always here but when it comes to me, I just tell everyone that I am fine and I smile.  The people who really know me, can see through my act.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I guess my most cherished childhood memory would have to be the first time I got to go to Florida with my mom and sister. It was just something new and I loved it, but that is also how I found out I am terrified of planes.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

My favourite school subject was English. It had to do because of the fact that I love to write.

.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job will always be to be a journalist, to be a writer. It’s why I love blogging, it gives me that feeling, in a small way it’s like my dream came true. But I am currently working on becoming a substance abuse counsellor, that’s something I want to do also.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully married with a stable job and a family. I hope to generally be happy with myself and my life.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I actually don’t have a bucket life. Well maybe I do but the only thing on my list is to go to Italy and to travel and experience different thing.s

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Graduating College with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology.  I was never more proud of myself than the day I crossed that stage.

.

Who inspires you?

No one really. I was never the one to look up to someone else and gather inspiration from them, I always did my own thing. I have respect for those people who are inspiring though.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I don’t have a favourite inspiration quote, but I love a lot of different quotes, it’s hard to pick one.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I would say just do it and keep going. If it is something that you feel will help you and help other’s, go for it and don’t stop. I’ve been blogging for a few months now and I love it. Even if my posts don’t reach the amount of audience I would like it to, I’m honestly happy just to have the couple views I get. Be interactive with other bloggers also, that really helps and you will make friends.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Coffee

Coke or Pepsi = Pepsi

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Super Organized (Sometimes)

My Top YouTube Channels…

My Top YouTube Channels

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine admitting to a *slight* addiction to watching YouTube videos. In fact this time last year I could probably count on both hands how many times I’d ventured onto the site to watch anything at all, yet over this past 8 months (certainly since launching Confetti & Curves) I’ve not just grown to making it my viewing preference over TV… I’ve even gone and launched a channel of my very own, *click here* to check it out –  craziness, I know!!

So being a Friday *yippeee* which is the night most of us are curled up with a bag of malteasers & glass or two of vino, I thought it would be the perfect time to share my favourite interweb celebs that I highly suggest you settle down to watch… however, I take no responsibility whatsoever should you become as obsessed as I am!!!

.

Grav3yard Girl

Bunny Graveyard Girl

I distinctly remember the first time I stumbled across Bunny’s channel, not only was I intrigued by her quirky ‘who gives a toot what I look like on my pj days’ attitude I was reeled in pretty darn quickly by her addictive “Does This Thing Really Work?” series. She’s one hilarious gal that has bags of confidence, never fails to make me giggle and is so refreshingly down to earth! Check her out for yourself ladies…

.

Wayne Goss

Wayne Goss

Okay, I admit it – it’s not just his brilliance with a blusher brush or cracking contouring skills that has me clicking for more, he’s also rather pleasant on the eyes isn’t he gals?! *swoon* 😉 However keeping in mind I’m a happily married woman (with no desire to window shop) I’m a huge fan of Wayne’s as he shares some pretty nifty tips that have undoubtedly accelerated my learning curve to the perfect winged liner and ultimate eye-shadow blend. If you’re not watching Wayne, you’re missing out!

.

 Sprinkle of Glitter

Lousie Sprinkle of Glitter

She’s the mama of mischief & mayhem. Watching Louise’s vids makes me feel like I’m catching up with an old friend.  She’s so wonderfully down to earth, wears her heart on her sleeve and is always on point at embracing her curvy silhouette!

.

Vivianna Does Makeup

Marlena – Makeup Geek

Marlena Makeup Geek

I’m pretty sure there’s not a beauty blogger or makeup maven out there that hasn’t heard of The Makeup Geek. Yes, the stunning Marlena and her mind blowing tips on how to get the best out of your cosmetic stash never fails to entertain me for hours on end. One of the most genuine & talented gals to grace our laptop screens for sure… if only she’d hurry up and launch her brand in the UK *sob*

Sassy Spring Essentials…

Step into Spring

Hey lovelies…

As my spring clear out is (almost) complete, what better way to celebrate than to dreamily ponder over what gorgeous goodies to restock my closet and beauty shelves with?! After spending a few hours mulling around the interweb I’ve found a few little items of inspiration that will undoubtedly get us in the mood to dust of the winter gloom and step boldly into a new season of vibrant colours. Are you sitting comfy? Then lets’ get started…

.

Spring Essentials

1) ASOS Curve Swing Dress: After packing away those winter woollies this gorgeous Asos Swing Dress (available in sizes 18-28) is the perfect patterned addition to brighten up any wardrobe. I love these shorter dresses for us taller gals too as they make the perfect maxi style top with a sassy pair of skinny jeans or leggings!

.

2) Marc Jacobs Daisy: No spring wishlist would be complete without a fresh waft of perfume that also happens to be contained in one of the prettiest daisy-clad bottles you’ll set your peepers upon. Marc Jacobs Daisy is the ideal spring scent that smells every bit as fresh and feminine as it looks.

.

3)  Superdrug Colour Performance: New season, new hair! After surviving those harsh winter months, most follicles are screaming out for a little TLC. The Superdrug hair colour range is by far one of the best I’ve tried and tested (many times I should add *aah hem*) It’s undoubtedly one of the most vibrant finishes that holds it’s colour for such an impressive length of time. For the price it really is a bargain girls. Oh, and the freebie conditioner is phenomenal for taming even the frizziest of manes! You’re welcome 😉

.

4) MUA Spring Break Palette: Having road-tested an entire batch of MUA products over the last few months I’m mightily impressed with this budget busting range of cosmetic goodies. How beautiful is this spring palette that’s simply bursting with super delicious pastille shades guaranteed to brighten up even the most lack-lustre of lids. For a mere £4.00 you just can’t go wrong!

.

5) Marni Leather Boots: Okay I’ll admit ladies, they’re a little ‘unique’ compared to my normal choice of foot fashion, however I adore the quirky heel design and neutral colour that will look great with almost any spring outfit… and with 60% off they make a great new season investment!

.

6) Benefit CORALista Coral Blush: I’ve yet to meet a beauty addict yet who isn’t a fan of Benefit’s mighty range of captivating cosmetics. I’ve noticed so many rave reviews about this beautiful blush set that it’s edged its way straight to the top of my spring wishlist! Check it out ladies – it even comes with it’s own cute little blush brush ❤

.

7) Dior Addict Lip lipgloss: I’ve had my eye on this little tube of lip-candy for a while now. Not only is the packaging a visual treat but the product itself is available in a huge range of delicious colours that’s guaranteed to perk up any pout.

.

8) Michael Kors (Brooke) Leather Shoulder Tote: You all know how much of a handbag addict I am, of course after stumbling upon this stunning tote from one of my favourite handbag designers, I simply had to sneak it onto the Wishlist. At £310 it’s a little on the pricey side but worth every penny for a high quality bag that’s sure to drop a few jaws in the process (mine included) I’m in love!

So there you have it beauty buddies, my Step into Spring wishlist. What’s top of your seasonal must haves? Are you all set to wave goodbye to your winter thermals?

As always thanks for reading… don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below 🙂

This or That? The Beauty Edition…

This or That The Beauty Edition TAG

It’s Friiiiday *happy dance*

Have you’s all had a fab week? I sure hope so! It’s been a busy one here with Em’s back to school, hubby off to work and little ole me back to the writing grindstone. Not that I’m complaining of course, being able to do what I love is such a blessing but it’s nice to switch off come the weekend, we all need a little time to recharge the batteries, spend time with the clan and just generally pamper ourselves right?

Oooh, talking of pampering oneself… hugggeee thanks to the lovely Melissa over at www.melissaclaireleslie.com for thoughtfully nominating moi to take part in the fun filled This Or That? Beauty Edition Tag.

So without further ado, time to roll up my sleeves and jump right in…

.

Makeup

Blush or Bronzer?
Okay, already I’m stumped and it’s only the first question *rolls eyes* I’ve always loved a little light pink glow but recently I’ve been uping my contouring game so I’d have to say bronzer. It seems to be suiting my skin tone much better this weather!

Lipgloss or Lipstick?
Arrrgh. Erm. Lipstick. Nooo – gloss. Wait!! Hmm. Okay, stick with gloss…

Eyeliner or Mascara?
Oh for heavens sake, that’s not even fair. Even though I adore my liquid liner I’d have to go with Mascara, it just adds that finished look.

Foundation or Concealer?
Hands down foundation.

Neutral or Colour Eyeshadow?
Even though I love a pop of colour I’m instantly drawn to soft neutral shades for everyday wear so I’d have to go with neutral!

Brushes or Sponges?
Brushes. Sponges just don’t do it for me – sorry Beauty Blender lovers!

.

Nails

OPI or China Glaze?
I’ve yet to try China Glaze so I’m sticking with good old OPI.

Long or Short?
Definitely short. I’ve never actually been a fan of long nails, I think short is much more elegant and practically – I couldn’t write all day with a set of talons… well I could but most of it would be unreadable.

Acrylic or Natural?
Natural. Any acrylic nail extensions I’ve worn in the past has always ended up damaging my nail bed. Last time it took months to repair *sigh*

Brights or Darks?
Brights, I love baby pinks, bright corals, fuschia, lilac. Pretty much anything girly and sweet will catch my eye and tends to suit my skin tone so much better.

.

Body

Perfume or Body Spray?

Perfume – and before you ask Miss Dior thank you very much *swwwoooon*

Lotion or Body Butter?
Lotion, every time.

Body Wash or Soap?
I’d have to go with a highly moisturising body wash, soap leaves my skin really tight, blotchy and feeling like it’s on fire.

Lush or Other Bath Store?
Considering I haven’t yet tried Lush *gasps of shock* I’d have to go with other bath store… namely The Body Shop, I adore their range of yummy products that smell good enough to eat. NOM!

.

Fashion

Jeans or Sweatpants?
Jeans Dahhhling. Having said that Friday night is sweatpants night 😉

Long Sleeved or Short?
Oh heck long – really not a fan of exposing my pale and portly arms thank you very much!

Dresses or Skirts?
Hmmm, I’d probably say skirts. I’ve had quite a few really long denim skirts in the past that have look amazing with boots in the winter and equally gorgeous with sandals in the summer.

Stripes or Plaid?
Stripes, so pretty!

Flip Flops or Sandals?
Although I wear both I’d have to say there’s nothing comfier than a really good pair pf pretty little sandals.

Scarves or Hats?
SCARVESSSS!!! I’m rarely spotted without one!

Studs or Dangly Earrings?
Oooh, my fav pair of owl earrings are dangly but I love studs *hmmm* Lets go with studs, just because.

Necklaces or Bracelets?
Braclets. I actually own very few necklaces however I never take my Pandora charm off my wrist… sleeping, showering, swimming… it’s always there. I know, the people at Pandora wouldn’t be impressed with my continuous wear but I just don’t see the point of having such a beautiful piece of sentimental jewellery and keeping it stashed away. Life’s too short & all that!

.

Hair

Curly or Straight?
I’m rocking my natural curls this weather, so definitely curly!

Bun or Ponytail?
I’ve always thought a little messy bun was quite cute. Yep, bun.

Long or Short?
Long(ish)

Light or Dark?
I’ll stick with my natural colour and go with Dark.

Side Swept or Full Bangs?
Side swept, it’s a classic.

Up or Down?
Always down, very rarely up.

So there you have it beauty buddies, my This Or That Beauty Edition Tag… thanks again to the gorgeous Melissa for nominating me, I had super fun giving this a go! I’m going to pass the Beauty Baton onto…

 Katie from Plus+ Beauty

Kaily from Someday Sunny

The Look Of Love…

The Look Of Love

Hello Lovelies…

Can you believe it’s February already? Nope, me either. However seeing as it’s the first post of such a loved up month I thought it was only fitting to start it off with a sprinkling of fashion inspiration for all those ladies who’ll be stepping out in style this Valentines night. So whether you’re off to see the highly anticipated 50 Shades Of Grey or cosying up in your favourite restaurant with your other half, it’s inevitable you’ll want an outfit to impress…

 Valentines Style

 1) I spotted this gorgeous hot pink dress whilst flicking through the latest Simply Be catalogue. I absolutely adore the vibrant colour and sassy little metallic waist band detail… best of all it’s available in sizes 12-32 *click here* for more details.

 2) What glamour obsessed gal doesn’t love a metallic clutch? I spotted this gorgeous little number on Chic Bag and thought it would tie in perfect with my Valentines outfit choices. Shockingly (I hope you’re sitting down) it’s reduced from £180 down to a staggering £11.99!

 3) If you love layering up your lashes then Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is right up your street. Its hourglass shaped brush and lash lengthening formula will undoubtedly bestow you with movie-star eyes. Available from Debenhams.

 4) This is probably one of my all time favourite perfumes… Miss Dior is a fragrance that I can only describe as liquid love in the most daintily pretty little bottle. After my hubby treated me to a bottle at Christmas I’ve been hooked ever since. Check out the scent-sational range of Dior fragrances available from Boots.

 5) What outfit would be complete without a statement MAC lippy to add a perfect pop of colour? This gorgeous shade ‘All Fired Up’ is one of my favourite passionate pink tones. Check it out by visiting the MAC store online.

Christmas with the Rees’s

Christmas Rees

Hello lovelies,

Firstly, I trust you’ve all had an amazing Christmas? It’s certainly been a fun filled one here – apart from being held ransom by a viral infection *blurrrgh*  Yep, it would just be my luck to catch something on the one day of the festive season where you hope to be germ free. Yesterday was spent wrapped up in my duvet beside a small mountain of grotty tissues *yukkk*, cough meds and bottles of fizzy red grape Shloer to keep my sugar levels at a all time high. Thankfully it’s paid off as today I’m feeling a tad more human… still, I’m hoping to get fully recovered for New Years Eve celebrations *fingers firmly crossed*

Anyways onto the exciting stuff… did Santa bring you all you hoped for? I have to admit I done exceedingly well thanks to my incredibly thoughtful hubby, and of course Christmas day was a roaring success with everyone full to the brim on turkey, stuffing, roast veg & lashings of my sisters amazing Pavlova… possibly the best dessert I’ve ever tasted, all thanks to Leah’s creative culinary skills 😉

So, for any of you who may be eager to know what goodies I ripped opened on Christmas morning I thought I’d show you my favourite picks… I’m beyond excited to get using them all!

Shopping For The Perfect Dress…

Dress Shopping

Shopping for any dress can be quite the task but when it comes to shopping for the most memorable dress you’ll probably ever wear it’s a whole new ball game girls! Having worked with hundreds of brides over the years and booked many (many) appointments, it’s safe to say I’m well aware of how exciting it can be for any blushing bride out browsing for her gorgeous gown. Yet in the midst of all the eager emotions it’s deceptively easy for things to get a little overwhelming. To keep things cool, calm and collected here’s a few of my tips when preparing to shop for that show stopping frock…

The budget
Okay ladies, it’s not all fun and games so let’s get the boring bit out of the way first – budget! It’s absolutely ESSENTIAL you do the maths before running riot in your local boutique. Wedding dresses can range from a few hundred pounds right up to thousands, and falling in love with a fancy frock before you’ve ascertained what your purse strings can stretch to is undoubtedly playing with fire. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than nursing a broken hearted bride on a budget! If your funds are limited let the consultant know in advance so she’s not under the assumption you have an open cheque book, otherwise it wastes both your time & hers… especially if you’re playing dress up in gowns you can’t afford to commit to rather than trying on the ones you can!

Get In Touch
Believe it or not but here in the UK January-March is one of the busiest times for bridal boutiques so it’s only natural that diaries fill up fast. If you’re eager to secure a Saturday or late night appointment it’s vital you get in touch ASAP to avoid disappointment. However before you make plans on where to book always do your research by contacting the shop first to ask if they carry your size, confirm if they have any specific dress styles you’re on the hunt for and also what their price range is… there’s no point in making the effort to visit somewhere that doesn’t cater for your shopping needs!
Don’t solely rely on what their website states either as it may not have been updated in quite a while. I know a few retailers who aren’t sensational at keeping their websites or on-line presence updated, which only leads to disappointed and agitated customers.
When I was shopping for my dress (quite a few years ago *gasp*) I found a good way to test the customer service of a shop was by emailing a query. If they got back to me pronto and professionally I felt pretty confident the customer care was going to be positive, however if I received a late response without justification, or worse still none at all, it made me think long and hard about whether I wanted to spend a significant amount of money with a store that doesn’t seem to be making much effort with me.

Battling Body Confidence
If you’re quivering at the mere idea of trying on all those gorgeous gowns in front of a shop full of strangers, it’s probably best you opt for some of the smaller boutiques and/or those that offer one-on-one appointments instead of multiple bookings. That way you can bring along your nearest and dearest without the worry of having to feel too uncomfortable in a shop full of unfamiliar faces and other browsing brides. I’ve found many of the girls I’ve worked with in the past actually much prefer solitary appointments so they have time to look & try in complete privacy before choosing ‘the one’.
Quite a common yet personal issue that many brides face is often feeling conscious about stepping in and out of the gowns in front of the consultants. Just keep in mind they’re professionals that have worked with a small army of women who own an eclectic range of boobs, bums and tums! However, if you’d still prefer to step in and out of the dresses without assistance don’t be afraid to say so. Some brides are terrified at touching the gowns let alone putting them on single-handedly, whereas others are much more confident when left to their own devices and simply only want help to zip or lace them up.

A good way to help boost body confidence is by donning support wear that offers more coverage than just your undies… even something simple as a pair of tights can make you feel less exposed during those quick gown change overs!

Taking Shape
Even if you’ve spent hours flicking through your favourite glossy magazines and top wedding websites it’s safe to say that many girls who fall in love with a dress on paper may find it surprisingly disappointing when they eventually try the shop sample on. However those gorgeous images you’re swooning over are indeed air-brushed, digitally perfected and the models chosen because of their seemingly appealing height & body shape – yes even the curvy girls!
However in the real world we come in a wonderful range of shapes and sizes. As beautiful as your favourite dress may look in the advertisement you need to be realistic that the sample may not look quite as amazing on you… a harsh pill to swallow but unfortunately it happens to us all *sigh*
Instead lean on the experience of your consultant – with any luck she will have worked with enough brides to advise on what materials, tones, shapes and silhouettes are going to compliment you best. Remember it’s her job to make you feel and look amazing!

No Pressure
This is your day, and like every other bride out there you’ll want it to be uniquely perfect. Never conform or agree to buying a gown you’re not 100% sure about, regardless of how much others try to convince you otherwise. A good bridal consultant will never make you feel cornered, pressured or uncomfortable – instead they’ll give you time to mull your decision over and respect that you may want to explore other options elsewhere.
The same applies when it comes to choosing who accompanies you on your dress shopping trip. Whatever you do don’t bring a whole bus load of onlookers as it will only add mass confusion to your shopping experience, particularly if you’re easily dented by others opinions!

I’ve witnessed quite a few brides fall in love with a gown only to be shattered when one of their many on-lookers blurts out ‘yeah, it’s amazing – but just not what I would personally pick.’ Arrrrghh! This often made my blood boil… it’s such a rude and pointless remark that unnecessarily scars judgement and could be very hurtful for a bride in love with the dress she’s standing in.
Those few simple words can break hearts and cause mass confusion, so if you’re bringing along additional friends or family for support keep it to a maximum of 2 people who have similar tastes, are open minded and fully understand what you want… not a self obsessed bridesmaid that only has eyes for herself or half a dozen huffy aunts that have very distinct tastes and no room for yours! Having positive leading ladies around you will make for a much more relaxed & productive experience for everyone involved.

pink heart

Have you made your trip down the aisle yet? If so how was your shopping experience… did you love or loathe it? Have you any tips of your own to share? Or, if you’re yet to make the trip down the aisle are you looking forward to shopping for your perfect gown?

As always I’d love to read your thoughts and feedback in the comments below, whatever your relationship status!

Top Tips For A Healthy Blog…

Blogging

Recently a few of my lovely followers asked me for some tips on how they could improve their blogging experience. Now although I’m no expert on the subject by any stretch of the imagination, I have been blogging for the last 18 months (Confetti and Curves is actually my 2nd blog) so it’s probably fair to say that I’ve learnt a few things along the way. However, everyone’s individual blogging goals & experience is very different. Some blog as a hobby, whereas others (such as myself) feel it’s essential for their career. Being a full time writer I believe it’s important to have a positive online presence, it also helps exercise my writing techniques, have fun and network with other writers and bloggers too – which is amazing for support & encouragement!

So to give those (who are interested) a smidgen of insight; when I started my very first blog, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing! The rest of mankind seemed to be clued up on blogging yet little old me had clearly skipped class the day of that lesson. However through trial and error I managed to pull my socks stockings up and realised that there’s actually a certain knack to this malarkey… especially having hit a few potholes of my own, sighed at the misery of dead stats and dealt with the agony of bloggers block. So here’s what I’ve learnt from my own personal blogging mishaps & merriment…

Content:
Firstly it’s important to decide what you’ll blogging about. It might seem like a good idea to write about a mish-mash of unrelated things, but rather than spread your topics too thin & wide, consider what the bulk of your writing will contain and who’s going to benefit from your pearls of inspiration. Most of all write about things that genuinely excite or interest you, that way you won’t run out of steam too soon or end up pacing the floors with bloggers block. Remember, if it’s fun to write it’s more than likely fun to read!

Find Your voice:
Keeping posts cheery, humorous, helpful, informative but sprinkled with a unique dose of personality is always a juggling act, but in order to gain interest you need to find a voice & writing style that will encourage your readers to stay on the page. Rather than write like your composing a yawn inspiring text book, try to sound more like you’re chatting to a friend over a cuppa or humongous glass of wine for that matter *without the slurring & hiccups of course*

Keeping things personal, fun & friendly really welcomes followers to connect and engage with you.

Design:
In my humble opinion design is hugely important – it’s the first thing your audience or potential new followers see when they first hit your page. It’s the face of your blog brand or an identity almost, and if it doesn’t reflect the content then it’s likely going to confuse or put readers off hanging around to find out more. If you’re stuck for colour or layout choices have a flick through some of your favourite glossy magazines or websites that have relevance to what you’re writing about. Make sure your blog is easy to navigate around too… it may seem totally on trend to have a flashy site packed full of bells and whistles but if someone easily confuddled (such as myself) comes along and can’t seem to find the start button then it’s more than likely they’ll be hitting the back button instead!

Interact:
So your blog looks like a slice of internet couture and your content seems sassy, yet no one’s saying hi or taking any notice of you, why?
On my first blogging adventure I found myself asking this question a little too regularly until one day the penny finally dropped… when was the last time I made the effort to read my follower’s posts? Had I ever even commented on any of their articles?
As you can imagine a big fat ‘POSSIBLY NOT’ was looming overhead like a giant blimp.
It takes time, effort and energy but if YOU make an effort to interact they *hopefully* will too; after all you’re not just in it to churn out articles day after day, you should be in it to learn, engage, have fun and feel inspired by others. Exercise those networking skills and you’ll soon see the results!

Promote:
Yet again another faux pas in my previous blogging experience… how is anyone expected to find my super-duper blog if the very creator isn’t shouting/ranting/flailing their arms in the air about it?
With social media tools such as HootSuite free to use, there’s no excuse for lack of self promotion. For those of you who aren’t clued up about it, check it out! Basically it’s a social media management dashboard that allows you to schedule various posts that will automatically be posted onto the likes of Twitter or Facebook. Take a moment to think about it… not everyone is on your time zone, so this is the perfect opportunity to reach a global audience whilst you’re tucked up in your cosy crib dreaming of your next dazzling blog article… Oh yeah!

Use Your Space:
Is your blog’s side bar decorated with pretty little widgets advertising where else to find you, what networks you may be part of, any recent blog awards & cool top posts for new follower’s to check out? If not, why not? There’s a whole empty strip of wasted space that you could fill with lots of your favourite articles… another way to tempt readers into clicking onto new content. Okay we’re not talking Times Square here, but as they say every little helps right?

Making Contact:
On occasion, pr companies or brands may want to drop you a line if they like what they see – it’s happened to me quite a few times now and this little blog just turned 2 months old! However in order to get in touch they’re going to need an email address to contact you on… and have you any idea the vast amount of bloggers that don’t have contact details on their site? Shockingly, quite a few!
Make sure your email address is visible – just in case the contact form happens to have a hissy-fit or the person simply just wants a good old fashioned @ address. It’s also a good idea to write a little bio about yourself; this doesn’t need to be your entire life story just a few paragraphs to inform the reader who you are & what you’re about, it simply lets the world know a little more about the person behind the blog.

How has your blogging journey been? Do you struggle in any particular area or alternatively have any top tips, thoughts or feedback to share? If so I’d love to hear from you in the comments below – you all know by now how much I enjoy a good old natter!
