Easy Peasy Ombre Nail Art…

Ombre Nail Art Tutorial

It’s not just my make-up that’s getting a bit of an overhaul in terms of breaking out the colourful shades – it’s my nails too! After months of hiding under dark polishes (which I admittedly adore) I seem to recently be magnetising towards bright cheery colours, combined with eccentric nail art – which is exactly what I aiming for with this fun nail design. So if you love sassy ombre tones and wild prints then check out this easy peasy tutorial!

1) Blank Canvas…

DSC02499

Starting off with the basics, it’s time to clean, prep and file the nails. Remember, when you’re filing the natural nail to sweep in one direction only to avoid any damage… my nails aren’t in tip-top condition at the moment so it really helps to deter any further nail catastrophes.

.

2) Pick Your Polishes…

DSC02500

Time to raid your stash for a selection of sassy shades. I’ve opted for bright spring colours that will hopefully give a bit of a sunset look during the ombre fading. However you can stick with multiple shades of the one colour, darks, neons, brights, pastels… the only limitations is your own creativity 😉

.

3) All About The Base…

DSC02505

In order to make the colours of your ombre effect stand out more vivid, it’s best to paint your nails in a white base coat. This doesn’t have to look finish perfect – it’s simply a base to brighten up the layers you’ll be adding on top!

.

4) The Sponge…

DSC02501

Ideally the best sponge to use is a wedge shaped sponge, however as I didn’t have any in stock (hehe) I opted for a basic circular sponge which I cut into quarters so I could easily get a few uses out of one sponge.

Ps: This could be a great way to make use of old beauty blenders that you’re ready to bin – just make sure they’re cleaned out really well and completely dry before applying polishes.

.

5) The Fun Bit...

DSC02506

The great thing I love about this look is that you really don’t need any expertise in nail art, it’s just a matter of layering the polishes onto your sponge and dabbing straight onto the nail. Easy peasy! If you’re unsure about how the colours will look try it sampling it on a false nail first… you can even buy little packs of falsies from a local discount store just to play around with some design ideas. In order to help your ombre fade out more, try dabbing your sponge lightly on the nail a few times to create a softer blend.

Ps: Just dab a cotton bud into some nail polish remover to wipe away the excess polish!

.

6) The Finishing Touches…

nail stamp

Naturally gals, your ombre will look absolutely gawjush if you just simply settle for adding a clear top coat. However if you do fancy adding a little bit of extra detail then why not invest in a nail stamping kit! They’re incredibly easy to use & you can create some really fun designs. You can find them on Amazon, Ebay or pretty much any beauty/nail art store. Most kits come with a stamper and selection of plates with funky designs you can stamp straight over the top of your polish. I opted for a fun animal print… okay so I might have gone a little bit stamper crazy but it’s definitely added character to my nail art!

.

Taaa Daa….

Ombre nail art

And here it is, the finished look… a sassy sunset ombre nail with a fun animal stamp in black polish straight over the top. I’ve also added a few coats of clear polish to ensure durability & extra wear!

Are you a fan of ombre nails? What colours would you opt for? Have you tried a nail stamping kit? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by and say a quick howdy 🙂

Anyways, enough from me, time to get comfy as we take a peek Behind The Blog

IMG_0225072

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fitness, fashion, food, fun… and positivity!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started my first blog about 25 goals I wanted to accomplish by the time I was 25 years old.  Once that was completed, I wanted to keep going!  It became my creative outlet and I thrived on the positive community.  Here I am, still going strong several years later!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I was looking for something that encompassed a life of balance.  Yes, I work out, but I also love sweets.  And thus… Semi-Sweet Tooth!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Of course!  But I have my handy notebook that I bring with me almost everywhere and write down post ideas regularly.  Inspiration is everywhere!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh goodness, this is a tough one!  Two actually come to mind:

The Proposal: Because it was about such a huge, life-changing day.

6 30 15_1

An Ode to Girlfriends: In life, my girlfriends mean the world to me and keep me sane. This was the best way I could think of to say thank you. 🙂

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I go for classic and traditional everyday style.  If it gives any hints, my recent style icons are Joanna Gaines, Ashley Olsen, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Arbonne Mascara, Chantecaille Highlighter, and, recently, hair milk.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A glass of Red and a great book or favourite show.  (For those in America, “New Girl,” “Modern Family,” & “Fixer Upper.”)

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

After a great morning workout and healthy brunch with the girls, I’d have a steak dinner and glass of red with my fiancée and get early to bed.  Spending the day laughing and smiling with my friends and family sounds perfect to me!

.

What do you do to relax?

A great workout typically gets the job done, but if I really need to relax after a tough day, I go with yoga, meditation, or some time with my Bible.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Ugh… biting my nails and cuticles.  The worst.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, although I’ve used a steady mix of Math and English ever since that elementary school.

.

What’s your dream job?

When I was little, it was to be a rock star.  So why not?  I want to be a rock star!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list? Living big…

Visit every continent

Become a published author

Be a parent to happy, loving children

Have a bit part in a major motion picture (no speaking lines necessary)

Be President of the United States (told you… living big)

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Growing into my own and becoming my own person has been quite the achievement, although that’s an ongoing process.

What would technically be my largest achievements would be graduating from college, competing on Team U.S.A. for ice skating (we won!), or starting my own brand and business with Semi-Sweet Tooth.

.

Who inspires you?

Several people, but primarily my parents.  They’re both incredibly different, one entirely left brain and one entirely right.  Both have inspired me in different ways and they’ve made me more confident and optimistic than many in the world.  They inspire me to achieve and follow my intuition every day.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Why settle for a spark when you can light a fire instead.”

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Makeup Revolution: Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Palette

Bright, bold & beautiful is how I would describe the Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette at first glance. Boasting 32 gloriously vibrant colours to dress your lids in, there’s literally a shade selection for almost every occasion – and at £8, the price tag is most certainly pocket friendly.

Rummaging through my palette drawers I seem to be building quite a nifty little collection from Makeup Revolution. But it’s not just me that’s falling head over heels for their range of affordable cosmetics, makeup lovers all over the globe are raving about the outstanding pigmentation and long lasting wear of a majority of their lines. But does this colourful Mermaid really match the wow factor of her tempting price tag? Let’s take a closer peek…

MUR Mermaids Palette

So here they are, all 32 colours – ranging from soft neutrals, punchy peaches, vibrant pinks, deep blues, rich browns and beyond. There’s certainly no lack of thought gone into the gorgeous range of shades, and if you’re having a tricky time of selecting tones then you’ll notice that diagonally the colours are set in complimentary blocks of 4 to keep you on the right path to successfully matching colours, ensuring you get the perfect blend! Certainly a great start for beginners in lid fashion 😉

MUR Mermaids Palette a

As for the packaging, it’s simple & chic. Although I’d love to see the palettes personalised in outer case styling a little more, perhaps one of the reasons they’re so affordable is Makeup Revolution keeping everything low keyed and simple to justify the price point. However the bright metallic blue storage box is certainly an eye-catcher… but if truth be told, I’d much rather have a great internal product with minimal packaging than a disappointing product that looks like it’s been designed by the hands of Picasso.

MUR Mermaids Palette b

(image taken with the plastic name cover over shadows)

Inside the palette the shadow pods are simple round pans. Granted they’re not overly big, so fluffly brushes beware! However for those that adore plenty of reflection room the mirror is huge (the entire size of the outer case) which makes it a great travel companion as you’ve every shade you’d need along with one giant mirror to play about with all the colours. Jolly hols = sorted!

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette

As for pigmentation… well, I must admit a few of the lighter colours (particularly in the first diagonal row) will need a little more work to really pack a punch, however the brighter colours are beautifully vibrant and blend incredibly well onto the skin. When I’m trying shadows for the first time I usually just pop them on a naked lid (no primer, foundation or base layer underneath) so I can really test the staying power on the skin. I applied my shadows at 11am and low and behold, they were still sitting just as pretty come 8 pm later that evening. A pretty impressive time frame for no base whatsoever, which of course can only get better with a great primer to pull out the intensity of the colour and help settle the shadows to prevent fallout or fading… which, I like I said, hasn’t been the case here. No primer and very happy lids many hours later *Yippeee*

DSC02425

All in all the Mermaids Forver Palette is certainly a winner in my eyes! Sure some of the lighter colours require a little bit more work (though I find that’s even the case in some of my high end palettes which are x5 more expensive) however a slightly dampened shadow brush really helps to restore the colour pigmentation and keeps the shadows consistency from risk at crumbling too.

.

The Final Look…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette Look DSC02420

What d’ya think gals? Today, I opted for a gorgeous mix of bright pinks – and keeping to the diagonal pink line, with just a touch of seashell in the inner corner, I thought the overall look was vivid and perfectly matched. Most definitely a palette I’ll be reaching for regularly and recommending to friends who love to hoard a selection of fabulous colours for special occasions or simple everyday use!

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

It’s official: My name is Karen and I’m a YouTube addict.

I’ve spent more hours trailing the internet for info this weekend than the last few weeks put together – however there’s a really good reason for what seems like my multiple hours of procrastination gals. You see, back when I was 21 I spent a crazy amount of money training to become a nail technician, & for a short while I even had my own little nail bar in a salon. Since then I’ve always harboured a fascination for nails and nail art, and have occasionally indulged in keeping on top of my skills by enhancing the claws of friends and family members.

However, with almost £1k of nail kit sitting idol in my beauty room, I thought it was high time I started to get back into the swing of things. After searching online, I found a local refresher course for a couple of hundred pounds. As much as I’d love to indulge in topping up my skills by attending a day course, right now I’ve more pressing bills to spend my hard earned cash on. However YouTube has proved it’s virtual weight in goal as I stumbled across a full length refresher tutorial with the brand I originally trained with! *yippeee* I couldn’t believe my luck! As soon as I settled down to watch it everything came flooding back and before long I was unearthing my bottle of monomer, coloured acrylics and sculpting brushes! How fabulous 🙂 Hopefully within the next few weeks It’ll be an exciting little project I’ll be getting back into, a few practice runs and I know I’m good to go. That’s the great thing about training, it’s always something to dip back into when the notion rises. Ps: If you can recommend any great nail YouTubers to add to my subscription list let me know in the comments below!

As for today, well it’s all about filming, blogging and catching up with you lovely lot… and if you’re planning a little catch up of your own then why not start by checking out what’s been happening over the last week here on Confetti and Curves

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fun, personal opinions and insights.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

My dad is actually the person who first suggested I start a blog. He writes a blog for his business, and he thought I might enjoy it too! Turns out, he was right. I tried blogging a few times in high school and then really got into it when I studied abroad for a semester in Spain.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blog name is actually just my first and middle name. When I was younger I thought that Shelly Ray could be my stage name when I became a famous actress, but a blog will have to do for now.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Oh yes, I definitely suffer from it. I’ll go through phases of having no problem writing, and then phases of suddenly having no ideas and no motivation to blog. What helps me is to actually set a day and time that I want to commit to writing so that I can’t keep making excuses. I also like to get out of the house and head to a coffee shop to write, because once I’m there I don’t have the option of watching YouTube or TV instead of writing!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I think my favorite post would have to be Be proud of yourself. I had a moment of inspiration, headed to a coffee shop, and just typed away until I finished it. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from it, and it also just made me feel really good to get my feelings written down like that.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I would say my everyday style is casual-chic (I just made up that term on the spot, aren’t I clever?) I tend to go for comfort over fashion and can hardly ever be caught wearing heels or a dress. However, I do like to look put together and cute. A nice sweater, jeans and boots is my go-to for Winter.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to come home, make a hot cup of tea and/or treat myself to a yummy dessert and watch some YouTube, or whatever TV show I am into at the moment.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday night would be very relaxed and low-key. I would probably want to go out to dinner somewhere new, then invite some friends over to play Cards Against Humanity or something fun like that, and just hang out. Nothing too crazy.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

When I was eleven, my parents, younger sister and I went on a six-week-long vacation and visited a bunch of different states! We camped for part of it and stayed in hotels for part of it and just had an awesome time exploring new places.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

My favorite subject was always English in high school, because I love reading and writing. In college I took some fun electives like Film Music where I learned all about movie soundtracks.

.

What’s your dream job?

I would love to be an author. I’ve had a few ideas for books throughout the years, but never taken the time to actually write one. I think being a full-time writer would be awesome!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself in more of a leadership/influential role in my career, with a successful blog and maybe even a book written (or at least partly written). As far as my personal life, I see myself being married by that point, which is kind of crazy to think about. But also exciting!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

The top item on my bucket list would have to be writing a book, like I just explained. As for the other four, I actually can’t think of specific things besides that I really want to travel more! So I’ll give my top four travel destinations: Brazil, Greece, Norway, Germany.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I would say my biggest achievement would be studying abroad. It’s actually the topic that got me started with blogging (check out my study abroad blogs). But I was really really nervous to leave behind my friends and family for an entire semester, and it was very difficult at times, but I got through it and I will always look back on my time abroad and feel proud of myself for doing it!

.

Who inspires you?

My family and friends are my main inspirations. I feel really lucky to be surrounded by amazing people in my life.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. That’s who you really are; let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it.” C. Assaad

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

My main tip is to just go for it! You won’t know if it’s for you until you try it. I also recommend to be patient and stick with it. As I said above, Bloggers Block is definitely a real thing and sometimes blogging might feel more like a chore than a hobby. But if you stick with it I promise it will be worth it!

The Lovin’ List: My Top Ten Picks of the Month…

Monthly Favourite

As we wave goodbye to yet another month, that can only mean one thing amongst the calendar of most beauty bloggers… the monthly favourites. Oddly enough I seem to have skipped the last couple as I usually like to keep a page in my organiser to remind myself exactly what I’ve been loving.. yes my memory is THAT bad(!!) However as March exits and April enters I find myself with a wealth of little bits & bobs that have managed to make me smile in many different ways throughout the last 4 weeks. So if you fancy finding out what’s been high on my ‘Lovin List’ then make yourself comfy and check out this lovely lot…

.

Nail Polish Rack

Ikea Picture Shelf Nail Polish Storage

Storing nail polish has always been a bit of a stickler for me. I’ve had boxes, bags & cute little drawer units, but nothing has compared to how handy this picture rack from Ikea has been! Now I can reach for whatever colour I like at a mere glance, without having to spend an age rummaging through hidden stashes to find that perfect shade. Best of all it well well under £10 & saves loads of space into the bargain!

.

Tesco LIVE Wax Melts

Tesco Live Wax Melts

I’m becoming rather impressed with some of the own-brand finds in my local Tesco’s of late, and being a lover of scented candles I simply had to invest in a few of these yummy looking little melts. I picked up the Vanilla, Damson & Pomegranate and Passionfruit & Melon. All of which smell absolutely divine and aren’t giving me a throbbing headache… unlike like many of the scented home goodies, including some of the elite brands! These cheerful little wax melts last such a long time too & are great value at under £2. Go get ‘em if you love a home filled with glorious scents too.

.

MAC Amplified Lipstick in Craving

Mac Amplified Lipstick in Craving

It may seem a tad deeper in the picture but don’t let it fool you as this stunning shade is totally build-able. It starts off as a sumptuous rosie pink and develops into a stronger tone the more you layer the formula. It’s incredibly comfy to wear and being rather pale in complexion I can vouch that it works wonders with lighter skin tones. Check out my post The Makeup Menu featuring MAC Craving to see a final look featuring this must-have shade!

.

Alex Drawer Set, Ikea

Ikea Alex Drawers Makeup Storage

What an investment for any beauty enthusiast! I bought the mini set which cost approx £40, but it’s by far the best investment for make-up storage I’ve purchased to date. Having browsed around the internet I couldn’t believe that some of the designer cosmetic bags cost just as much, if not more! If you need a stylish looking home to store all your beauty goodies in then look no further than Ikea Alex range… they have a chic and simple solution for almost everything.

.

William Morris Notebook Trio

William Morris Writer Notebooks

There comes a point in every stationery addicts journey when hoarding gloriously designed paper goods becomes a bit of an issue in stock piling – particularly when storage for a small army of note books, post-it-notes & office accoutrements is limited *sigh* One of my lovely friends treated me to this beautiful little trio of notepads quite a while back & it’s only now that I’m getting round to finally using them. I’m not gonna lie, it was a hard decision to make to use them, but the reality of buying no more stationery until I’ve used what I’ve got is a rule I’m determined to stand by. However, I’ve a lingering feeling that my blog buddy Emma from Puddleside Musings will at some point lead me astray with her cutesy paper purchases & awesome craft hauls!

.

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Palette & NYC Cream Blush

DSC02334

It’s all about radiant cheeks & a subtle dewy complexion for me this spring, and nothing has brought a delicious smidgen of glorious colour to my cheeks more than these two. I’m beyond impressed with the pigmentation and shade selection of the Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar palette, not to mention the creaminess of the NYC Beautifying Blushable Creme Stick in Soho Pink… perfect for those days when you just want a natural dewiness radiating from your skin. Love them both, though utterly gutted the NYC blush has now been discontinued *sob*

.

Kindle

DSC02343 DSC02344

Stocked with more Marian Keyes books that you could shake a librarians stick at, I’m very much in literary heaven. For quite a few months I went to bed without lifting my Kindle last year, which was unusual for me as I’m a nighttime reader. But from getting back into books since last October I’ve noticed that I’m sleeping better at night and looking forward to getting tucked into bed to find out what happens next. Now that the sunshine is making a more regular appearance I’ve even been able to sit out in the garden with it too – albeit with a few layers on, it aint summer yet gals! It may be one of the first edition kindles, but it’s working like a dream… how cute is the little owl cover that my brother bought me? hehe

.

Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pink Opal

Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pink Opal

Since buying this shadow I don’t think there’s a day has gone by when I haven’t wore it. Super long lasting & the prettiest colour for spring, this is a gorgeous shadow for all you gals who adore an icy wash of pink (which works perfectly with a defined crease in a rich damson shadow, or any warm earthy tone) I adore the soft mousse formula that’s so easy to apply & sets beautifully without any creasing or moving. Max Factor have truly struck gold with this one.  *Click Here* to check out my very own eyelids modelling it proudly for y’all on Mondays Make-up Menu.

.

Barry M Brow Kit

Barry M Brow Kit Shape & Define a

EVERY time I wear this brow kit (and I do mean every!!) I always get asked and complimented on where I get my HD Brows done. Who would’ve guessed a mere £5 investment would have been so influential! The easy-peasy 3 step system consists of 1) Wax to smooth and shape, 2) Eyebrow powder to fill and define 3) Highlight powder to accentuate. It literally couldn’t be any simpler!  As many of you lovely lot already know I adore my brow products, but rummaging through my brow stash (including products ranging up to & slightly beyond £60) this is by FAR my favourite, and the one brow kit I reach for most often. If you haven’t tried it already then bump it to top of your shopping list, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it every bit as much as I do ❤

.

Spiral Hair Bobbles

Spiral Hair Bobbles

I honestly thought getting my hair cut a little shorter would save me hassle, instead it’s gave me more grief as whatever I do I have to constantly style it… gone are the days when I could leave it dry in bouncy spiral curls. One of the biggest challenges is keeping my follicles tied back neatly, and with them being much shorter than before my hair often slips out of the usual hair bands UNTIL I discovered these fabulous little life savers. If you have super-slippy hair that simply won’t hold its grip, then check these fabulous spiral bobbles out. They are phenomenal! Particular handy for gym-ers & swimmers who need a great solution for water or workouts. Available from Claire’s Accessories, Primark, Asda and a whole heap of other local stores!

My Beauty Room

beauty-room-and-office-space

I still give a little ‘EEEEP’ with excitement every time the words ‘Beauty Room’ rolls of my tongue. Having a spare room that was pretty much dormant of use 99% of the time, Steve suggested I use it as a little blogging/makeup haven, as a corner of our bedroom was vastly becoming stock piled with an army of lotions and potions. So with a teeny budget and a lot of hard work we embarked on transforming our little spare room into the fabulous Confetti & Curves sanctuary it is today. Wanna check out the finished results for yourself? Then *Click Here* to take a mini tour!

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Beauty, Lifestyle, and many wishlists

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I really can’t remember, it’s a bit fuzzy but all I can say is: best decision ever.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I recently changed my blog name because I felt like my old name wasn’t really coherent with my blog topics or who I wanted to be anymore so I thought for a good few weeks before I landed on Born To Be Bright.  It kind of means to be yourself and not change yourself for other people.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Only a few times, I usually try to plan out posts at least a few days in advance so I can put a lot of time and effort into my content and really be happy and proud of what I’m posting.  I have a running list of post ideas so I never really run out.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I really liked writing my Welcome back post, although I think there was a glitch and literally no one saw it oops.  I also really like writing makeup bag posts, those are always fun because I like to do them with my pal Makena!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Comfortable but still shows some effort.  I’ve been testing out 2 week capsules so by the time Spring rolls around I’ll have a super clear idea of what types of pieces I like to wear and I can shop effectively for my first real Capsule!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Origins SmartyPlants CC, life-changing light foundation for dry skin.

Clark’s Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask, the most life-altering product I’ve ever discovered despite the insane price tag.

Essie Master Plan, which is my favorite neutral nail polish.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I usually like to watch a few episodes of Friends, Gossip Girl, or take a shower then light a candle and catch up on blog posts.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Two choices: one is driving around with one of my best friends and having a good time singing along to music and talking then going to another friend’s house for some pizza and ping pong and the other is just catching up on everything like reading, watching some Gossip Girl and Friends, and painting my nails and cleaning up.  I like very low-key evenings.

.

What do you do to relax?

To relax I take long, hot showers with the best smelling bath products I own and again turn on a good TV show to take my mind off anything.  If I’m feeling anxious before I go to sleep I listen to some of my favorite songs for a while before I turn on Relax + with Andrew Johnson it seriously calms me down so much.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

It used to be biting my nails and when I’m nervous for a decent amount of time like a few days I turn back to it *glances down at short nails*.  Other than that, when I’m nervous about time management that’s when I start rubbing my face and we all know that that isn’t good so that is something I’m trying to stop.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

It’s not so much a memory as a person, my great-grandma is who I get my eye color from and we are the only two in the family with blue eyes.  She’s so inspirational to me and I can only remember a little bit of her from when I was young but she’s always been a role model to me since I can remember.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Definitely math, I’m one for a strictly right or wrong answer.  Formulas and calculations were always my strong suit, even though most people hate it.

.

What’s your dream job?

I’d love to do this for the rest of my life, I love blogging and the community around it.  If that isn’t possible I like to learn bits and pieces of code and would love to work on web design as a possible career path.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I will be in my third or last year of college and by then I hope to be going to school abroad full time, I’d love to go to Australia, Norway, or Germany.  I have wanted to live abroad when I got older for quite a while.  My aunt always inspired me to do so, she moved to Australia a few years out of college and has been living there happily since.  I think her and I are similar in mentality and personality so I hope I can do it too.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

  1. Travel as much as I possibly can all around Europe and Australia
  2. Go to as many concerts as I can specifically the 1975
  3. Learn 2 languages fluently (Spanish and either French or German)
  4. Learn to cook some pretty kick butt homemade things like homemade noodles and pasta sauce
  5. Find what makes me happy and stick with it

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I think it might be investing in my blog for the first time and renaming it.  I was up until 2 or 3 AM so many nights trying to figure things out and I really think that it was an achievement for me to do so much all by myself.  I am no computer genius so I think that getting my blog set up on a new platform alone and actually investing in it really has been one of my biggest achievements.

.

Who inspires you?

People who can balance friends, family, and work inspire me, also people that have really become life-long learners and aren’t just done learning after high school or college.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.  Henry Ford

I hope you live a life you’re proud of.  F. Scott Fitzgerald

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Firstly, do it.  Secondly, don’t do what everyone else is doing, in other words, be who you are.  We read blogs to get your honest opinion and thoughts, we don’t want you to change what you have to say so it agrees with everyone else.

Behind The Blog featuring Deborah Bazeley…

Deborah Bazeley Wanderlust

Hey Blog Buddies,

Before we jump right into today’s exciting addition, I’d like to thank y’all soooo much for your lovely comments on yesterdays post the Spring Inspired Makeup Menu featuring Max Factor. I’m chuffed you guys enjoyed the finished look, your comments we’re indeed a treat to read! Also, quite a few of you seem just as impressed with the gorgeous Excess Shimmer shadow as what I am! It really is just as stunning up close & personal ❤

Talking of up close & personal, I have a incredibly inspiring gal gracing the virtual sofa today as the gorgeous Deborah Bazeley stops by for a quick chatter on her blossoming lifestyle blog: Deboarh Bazeley Wanderlust. As much as I adore my daily news feed sprinkled with beauty related news & reviews, I’m also a great fan of travelling, lifestyle & heaps of encouragement when it comes to *trying* to be a little more health conscious… heaven knows I need all the inspiration I can get from the aftermath of the Easter weekend *hides a multitude of chocolate egg wrappings*

So if all this sounds like something you’d love to check out too then get yourself over to Deborah’s blog – word of warning though, you may end up getting slightly addicted as it’s packed full of a multitude of fun features: procrastinators beware! 😀

Deborah Bazeley

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Backpacking, healthy living, fitness + humour

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I discovered blogging back in 2011 when I was in my final year of university. I attempted to write a number of blogs ranging from a cringey anonymous relationship blog (less Carrie Bradshaw and more Bridget Jones) to an incredibly embarrassing politics blog (I was studying Political Science at the time). The idea of having a free platform on which to voice your opinions and be published was almost unheard of back then, and I jumped at the opportunity.

However, my travel and lifestyle blog (and the one that you see today) began when I merely wanted to document my solo backpacking adventure through South America, USA, Fiji and New Zealand for my friends and family. I wrote purely for fun and from the heart, and it was the first and only blog of mine to receive a decent amount of hits and followers. From there, I started writing stories and discussing lifestyle and fitness, and I’ve never left it since no matter where I have been in the world!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Deborah Bazeley (‘Bazeley’ is pronounced ‘Baze-ley’, like ‘paisley’) is my full name and super easy to find on Google. I also wanted my name to be the primary focus so that if my travels ever stopped or if I wanted to talk about topics beyond backpacking, my blog could expand.

Wanderlust is the irresistible urge to travel, but I also see it as the urge to explore life itself. My blog is about exploring the world with our minds and bodies, as well as our passports. That’s why you will find everything from fitness posts, to solo female travel advice and reviews, to creative writing pieces.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! At those times there are a few things I do. The first is that I go for a walk as this is when all of my best ideas come to me. Secondly, I read other blogs and scour Pinterest for ideas. Thirdly, I ask myself “What information would you have found useful when…[travelling, writing, getting into the gym, etc]?”. (This was how I came up with my First Time Backpacker Series.) Fourthly, and finally, I write any old thing down and tell myself that it will be good enough – blogger’s block often comes when we’re determined to be the best, or when we start comparing our blog to other people’s. Some of my most popular posts are the ones that I thought to be my worst! Write it, edit it, add a picture and tell yourself, “It is good enough.”

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I would say my first post because it’s where I began, but my absolute favourite was my “Bridget Jones in Ilha Grande” post. It’s written in the style of the Bridget Jones’ Diary series, but it is actually what happened to me on a beautiful island off the coast of Brazil. The horny couple, the storm and the food ordering debacle are all real!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Jeans/leggings, loose t-shirt, check shirt over the top + Converse (or boots in winter). Easy, comfortable and simple.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Rimmel’s Radiance BB cream – it’s light and yet offers pretty good coverage, and it’s hands down my favourite BB cream that I’ve tried so far.

Coconut oil in my hair – I have so many hair masks, but nothing softens my hair like coating it in coconut oil overnight and washing it off in the morning.

Radiant overnight mask (skin phase 2)

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I have the same routine every evening: Turn on my fairy lights and light the candle by my bed. Write in my journal (I’ve kept a diary since I was 10). Write down five things that I am grateful for, as well as the happiest moment of that day. Then I curl up in my bed with my colouring book and my two ragdoll cats (called Merry and Pippin), and watch some Netflix.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Netflix, cuddles with my cats, a good hearty meal, and either my friends, family or boyfriend. I haven’t been particularly interested in going out or partying for more than a year now!

.

What do you do to relax?

If I’m really wound up and have a tension headache, I do a four minute meditation and stretch out like I used to in ballet class. Otherwise I go for a refreshing walk/run or I lift some weights in the gym.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails, and I let anxious thoughts run the show a lot of the time.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I don’t have a specific one, but my parents, brother and I would all go for either a hike or a bike ride every weekend. We didn’t have proper gear or fancy bikes as we didn’t have much money, but all of my best childhood memories come from those trips. Plus, I have never felt fitter or more alive as I did back then!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, though I equally loved Politics when I reached A-levels.

 .

What’s your dream job?

Full time cat nanny, but I will settle for working in marketing!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working in marketing, writing and blogging, living with cats (and hopefully my boyfriend!), and exploring the world.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Learn French and practice my skills in France, volunteer for a cause I believe in, travel South East Asia, write a novel, and go on safari somewhere in Africa.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Travelling by myself around the world. I started in Brazil and I was utterly terrified as I suffered with General Anxiety Disorder, but I faced my fears and did it anyway.

.

Who inspires you?

Elizabeth Gilbert – I am such a walking cliché with my adoration of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, but I bloody love both her writing style and her worth ethic.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it.

I used to get so worried about what people would think of my writing (“What if they hate it?” or “What if I write something that I would be embarrassed of in the future?” or “What if no one reads it at all?”), but after a few posts I realised that when you first start out, the only people who will really read your blog are your friends and family (ie. the people who support you the most). This makes it a hell of a lot less scary and takes the pressure off when you first start posting content! See it simply as a chance to practice your writing skills (try to keep all posts to around 1000 words) and share your thoughts.

When you feel ready, get on social media and seek out similar blogs and new blogger friends, and get sharing and posting. Networking and supporting others is the only way that your blog will grow – take an interest in the community, and it will welcome you back.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Tea

Coke or Pepsi = Coke

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Somewhere in the middle, but closer to the organised side of things

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = KITTEN

Night In or Night Out = Night in (I’m an old cat lady these days)

Heels or Flats = Flats

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = Lip Stick (or a lip butter)

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Pop Princess

Paperback or E-book = Paperback (the majority of the weight in my travel backpack was taken up by my many paper journals and novels…I probably should invest in a Kindle but I just love an actual book!)

Behind The Blog featuring Colour Me Beautiful…

Colour Me Beautiful

Hey Beauty Buddies…

And so yet again you’s have made my day with another dose of fantastic support on yesterday’s post Contacting PR Companies! Like I’d mentioned previously, it’s a bit of a sensitive subject to write about as some bloggers have some seriously varied views on the topic, but low & behold many of you were superbly grateful for the feature & I’m beyond delighted it was received in the best possible way… as merely a smidgen of encouragement & guidance for those amongst us who are indeed ready to take on the blogisphere one PR at a time 😀

Talking of blogispheres, it’s that time of the week once again where I prep the virtual sofa for yet another blog buddy as I have the lovely Catherine from Colour Me Beautiful joining me today for a quick peak behind the scenes of her budding beauty & lifestyle blog.

Just as the name suggests, Catherine’s blog sprinkles our news-feeds with a splash of colourful posts as she features some of her favourite products, beauty chatter and in-depth reviews. Of course being Irish (and a cat lover) I’m naturally biased to singing her praises, but for those who haven’t checked it out already then do get yourself over pronto! She’s such a lovely gal who’s warmth spills naturally into her blogging.

So without further ado, it’s time to grab your cuppa and chillax for five as we take a peek Behind The Blog...

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

I’ve always loved trying new beauty products and telling my friends or family about them and then one evening on a night out a girl I worked with told me i should start blogging so here I am.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

God, I was trying to come up with a name for weeks before I actually made a blog, I couldn’t decide on a name I liked at all, pretty sure I had my family and boyfriends head wrecked.. I was looking up other bloggers advice for picking a name and someone wrote that you should think of how whatever your blogging about makes you feel, so I brainstormed how makeup and all that stuff made me feel.. and somehow just came up with Colour Me Beautiful, soon as I said it out loud and I loved it.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I haven’t come across this yet as I’m only blogging a few weeks but I’m dreading this happening. I think whenever it happens I’ll have to go on a makeup shopping spree and do a blogging haul haha.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post so far has to be the L’Oreal Infallible 24h-Matte Foundation Review, I love this foundation so much I couldn’t wait to blog about it. https://colourmebeautiful.wordpress.com/2016/02/29/first-impression-loreal-infallible-24h-matte-foundation/

I’m a big fan of my trampoline, even though I’m nearly 22, its such a good way to relieve stress.. Nothing better than putting in my earphones bouncing away the stress 🙂

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

I feel so old saying this but my ideal Saturday night would be a few drinks in a pub with a good band or lying in front of the fire curled up with himself with a good horror.

.

What do you do to relax?

I will either go for a looooong shower or head for a walk.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I’m extremely un-tidy…pretty sure there’s clothes I wore at Christmas still lying on my bedroom floor.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I think the days during the summer holidays when me, my brothers and my cousins use to head to our grannies and spend the entire day playing out in their fields as they had a big farm.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

It was definitely Art, it was the only subject I had an interest in doing and seemed to be able to do it well.
.

What’s your dream job?

Hopefully in a few months I’ll be a qualified nail technician, so that and a makeup artist would be incredible.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Imperfection is beauty. Madness is genius. It’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring – Marilyn Monroe

Behind The Blog featuring Jessica Anne from The Lawyer Look…

The Lawyer Look

Hey Beauty Buddies…

Would it be overly cliche to say I’ve broke yet ANOTHER nail? The last remaining one with a bit of length to it *sigh* I swear they’re dropping like flies here, gone are the days of my long, strong nails only to be replaced with a set of uneven stumps*sobs* So as it stands I’m currently stocking up on Vitamin D, in hope that it’ll some how save the day with a miracle cure before I end up with a row of exposed nail beds. All I have to do is look at the damn things and they split… a trip to Holland & Barrett couldn’t have come any sooner. Hmm, moving onto a more positive note, a huuuge big thank you to all who check out yesterdays post The Makeup Revolution Menu: First Impressions. As always, you guys leave the best feedback and smile inducing comments – I’m chuffed to bits you liked the finished look and loved the Golden Sugar palette & 5 Baked Eye Shadows just as much as I do. I’m still swooning 🙂

However time to grab the cuppa and get yourself comfy as we welcome our first Behind The Blogger of the week… the gorgeous Jessica-Anne from her absolutely stunning blog The Lawyer Look. If clean crisp photography, sophisticated styling and great reviews sprinkled with totally relate-able writing gets your vote then you’re going to ADORE Jessica-Annes blossoming corner of the interweb. This girl really knows how to combine great features with super-stylish presentation… in fact why take my word for it when you can just pop over and check it out for yourself, but be prepared as you might be on there for some time 😀

Anyways, enough waffling from me as it’s finally time to take a quick peek behind the blog…

Jessica Anne

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Opinions from a makeup hoarder!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I started blogging when I got myself really into watching YouTube videos and reading other people’s blogs, and I thought ‘I want to do this’. I had a massive love for everything beauty related and I just wanted to share my own opinions with people who can actually be bothered to read them!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blog name changed a few times, however I settled with The Lawyer Look. It comes from the idea that I’m a law student and soon to be lawyer hence ‘The Lawyer’ and my blog is mainly beauty related hence the ‘Look’!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I suffer from “Blogger’s Block” all the time, I seem to be going through it a few times every month! L However, I’m starting to try overcome it by writing about whatever I want and not putting myself into a niche. Also, I now have a little ‘Blogging Book’ where I put all my ideas in and it just means I have something to go to if I ever need a random blog idea!

.

What’s your favourite post to date? *please include link*

This is a tricky question… Can I have two?

One of my favourite is the ‘Things that made me happy in 2015’ because it was so lovely to reflect back on the year! Also, the second post I love is my most recent and it’s the ‘A-Z of me’, this was my first really personal post on my blog and I got such a lovely response for it!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

My every day clothes style is a cute dress and some leggings! I go more for comfortable cute clothes rather than attempting any out there style picks!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Foundation, Eyeliner and Mascara!!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to relax by sitting in my onesie with a lovely cup of tea!

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday night would be sat relaxing on the sofa with my lovely boyfriend binge watching our favourite TV shows!

.

What do you do to relax?

I love having a Lush bath bomb bath and some lovely smelling candles!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Biting my nails!

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I really don’t remember much of my childhood, but I think one of the earliest memories I have is walking my very first dog in the woods behind my house and playing chase with him haha!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I’m a bit of a nerd… so it’s got to be history!

.

What’s your dream job?

I want to be a solicitor… but secretly I’d love to own a zoo…

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I see myself hopefully out of education and finally working as a fully qualified solicitor! Whilst being a mummy to about 15 little puppies.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Cuddle a baby monkey.

Have 2/3 beautiful children!

Go spend a month in China seeing the pandas and going sightseeing.

Own a villa in a different country, somewhere hot!

Get the courage to go and do a skydive!

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement is probably sticking out university and almost making it to the end! When I started I really didn’t enjoy it, but now I’m going to be graduating in a few months!

.

Who inspires you?

I don’t really have particular people that inspires me. My mum and my boyfriend have always inspired me to be a better person and to try make something of myself!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I don’t!

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Don’t feel like you need to compare yourself to other people! Write whatever you want to write, post as many times as you want to post. I got myself stuck in a bit of a rut at the start of my blog and really didn’t know where I fitted within the blogging community. BUT THAT DOESN’T MATTER. The blogging community is great, because there are so many unique people out there and it’s great to get to know them better!
