GlowDry Mini LED Nail Lamp from Vanity Planet…

Vanity Planet LED Gel Nail Lamp Review

Whatever you’re doing stop. You NEED to check out this little cutie by Vanity Planet, it’s the Glow Dry LED gel manicure nail dryer. Isn’t it just the cutest little thing? I’ve been on the hunt for a portable LED lamp for quite a while now, particularly as I’m stepping up my nail game. What handier little device to help on the move than something as neat, nifty and portable as this? Let’s take a closer peek…

.

vp1

Vanity Planet LED Glowdry Nail Lamp

Contents include: A mini 6 Watt lamp, with it’s adorable heart shaped timer button that allows you to pre-set either 45 seconds or 60 second intervals so you don’t lose track of time – particularly useful if you chatter as much as I do! There’s the neat little two pin adapter – UK residents, no need to stress as the solution for using it in UK sockets is right down below. Finally the Instruction manual & a great money saving coupon entitling you to 50% off your next purchase!

Sounds a treat? Well that’s cause it is. However for those of you (like myself) who rely on a three pin plug (as opposed to a two) you’ll need to invest in your own wall adapter which you can pick up in most stores for about £2.50. These are super value for money & also useful should any visitors need to use it… or if I’m sent any future foreign goodies to sample 😉 Check it out, it’s great value & really handy!

Cures Gel polish in as little as 45 seconds

Up to 50’000 hours of performance thanks to the energy efficient bulbs

6 Watts of LED Power

Automatic shut-off

Preset 45 or 60 second intervals

Compact design for easy-peasy travel solutions if you’re on the go!

Okay so it might initially seem a little pricey at bang-on $100, but considering the usage hours you’re getting for the price it would easily last one person a lifetime of gels! As the lamp is quite compact you can’t fit your entire hand in at once, however that’s easily overcome by curing both thumbs first then moving onto the fingers! Do keep in mind that it only works with LED compatible gels, however considering that LED lamps are the way forward you’ll not have any issues finding a great selection of gels to treat yourself too!

.

vp4

Vanity Planet LED Nail Lamp Review

Can the Glow Dry lamp be used with ordinary polish?

No. LED lamps can’t cure your ordinary polishes as they don’t have the accelerated LED drying properties required, so keep to gels only!

How long should I cure my nails for?

The lamp has two timers, 45 seconds & 60 seconds. If after 45 your nails aren’t cured then opt for the 60 seconds instead.

Can I touch my nails straight after using the Glow Dry lamp?

Yes! It cures your nails on the spot so you don’t have to worry about any nasty smudges *woo hoo*

Can it be used on Toe nails?

Although it’s primarily used on fingers there’s no reason why you can’t use it on your toe nails either!

Do I need to wear fingerless SPF gloves?

Although fingerless SPF gloves aren’t essential, it certainly reduces the risk of LED light radiation. Although this isn’t enough to harm you in one interval, if you use any LED lamp over a period of time taking precautions is always advised. Alternatively you could apply a small amount of SPF to your fingers to help protect exposed skin.

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

This weekend I’ve let my hair down, donned on a full face of makeup (eyelash extensions included), for a night out with the girls. I can’t even remember the last time this happened… meal, drinks, dancing, giggles, gossip, cocktails… you know the usual shenanigans. After a pretty rough few weeks this is just what the doctor ordered – well, he’d probably advise against it in my current condition but I’m pretending otherwise. Sometimes when we hit a stressful patch in our lives the best thing for getting out of the rut is to at least make an effort to get back on the bandwagon & start living. I’ve moped around too much & with the great friends (and sister) that I’m blessed with a night out is always a guaranteed cheer-me-up. Needless to say I’ll probably feel a little worse for wear over the next few days but it’s a small price to pay for a few hours with my squad!

So for those of you, who like me, are taking it easy this fine Sunday then why not curl up and check out what’s been happening here on Confetti & Curves this week! But before I leave y’all to a catch up thank you guys so much for taking the time to leave such awesome comments everyday – I can’t tell you how much it means to read your super encouraging words! Don’t forget to leave a link to any of your own posts that you’d like us to check out in the comments below, I love catching up with what’s been going on with you guys too 🙂

Monthly Favourites…

Monthly Favourites April

Every month I convince myself that I’m going to be super organised & keep a list of things I’m loving! Of course every month I fail. Miserably. The ironic thing is, is that I LOVE lists… in fact I quite often find myself sneaking things I’ve already done onto them, just for the satisfaction of ticking them off. After all, it seems a waste of a good chore not to tick it off, are you with me organised ladies? Anyways, the point is: every month I’m left foraging around my mental notes for things I know I’m loving and can’t wait to tell you guys about, but end up drawing a blank. However, low and behold this last few weeks I’ve managed to successfully keep tabs on a few little goodies I’ve been reaching for the most. So without further ado, here’s my monthly favourites for y’all to feast your eyes on…

Revlon Photoready Concealer – Light

Revlon Photoready Concealer

No monthly favourites would be complete without a standard makeup staple & this month I’ve been loving the Revlon Photoready Concealer. As opposed to some of the usual doe-foot liquid-applicator concealers I’ve used in the past, this one has the same format as a lippy – and honestly it’s sooooo much easier to apply. Granted, it’s a little thicker than most concealers but it’s done an awesome job of keeping the patches where my face drinks my foundation the most well covered and looking fresh for as long as possible. Big thumbs up from moi 😉

.

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Nail HQ Cuticle Oil

Apart from being made and manufactured in good old Blighty, this is a fabulous cuticle oil. It’s not overly greasy like some I’ve used in the past and it hasn’t got a bizarre odour either. Although I’m a fan of savvy scents, this is a great happy medium for everyone as it’s not perfumed or infused with any kind of sweet/sickly smell. Just a great cuticle oil that’s been a life saver to saving the dire state of my own disastrous digits in these post winter months. Yaa hoo!

.

Rio Nail Art Pens – Neon Collection

Rio Nail Art Set

You gals know how much I love to dress up my nails with fun little nail art shenanigans, and although I’ve had this cute set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens for a few years now it quite often stays in hibernation until spring/summer when the colourful polishes come out of hibernation. This week I’ve been falling in love with polka dot nails all over again & these little pens are the perfect tool for dotting… OR stripping as they have alternative lids to meet all your nail art demands. Pretty cool huh?

.

Nail Stamping Kit

Nail Stamping Kit

Yep, I’m at it again… yet another nail art favourite. I just can’t seem to help myself this weather. But having created the most gorgeous little ombre animal nail prints, which you can check out for yourself by *Clicking Here* , I’m totally smitten with the endless possibilities this fabulous stamping kit has to offer! If you fancy taking a peak at it in action then *Click Here* to visit this weeks upload where you can see me demonstrating it in a fun how-to style video. Just don’t forget to hit that subscribe button while you’re over there 😉 hehe

.

Pearl Drops Hollywood Smile Teeth Whitener

Pearl Drops Ultimate Whitening

I’ve been hoarding this in my drawer for ages and finally it’s seen the light of day and got put to use a few weeks ago. I have to say I’m really beginning to notice a difference as my teeth are appearing a whole lot more shinier than before. Matching this up with my sensitive tooth paste, I now feel I’m well on my way to a much healthier looking smile 😀 Such an affordable and easy way to gently brighten and whiten your teeth!

So there you have it ladies, my top 5 monthly favourites. Have you tried any of the above? What have you been reaching for most often over April? Have you created a monthly favourite of your own you’d like us to check out? If so leave the link below – we’d love to take a peek! Don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below, thanks for stoppping by – wishing y’all a fabulous weekend!

Easy Peasy Ombre Nail Art…

Ombre Nail Art Tutorial

It’s not just my make-up that’s getting a bit of an overhaul in terms of breaking out the colourful shades – it’s my nails too! After months of hiding under dark polishes (which I admittedly adore) I seem to recently be magnetising towards bright cheery colours, combined with eccentric nail art – which is exactly what I aiming for with this fun nail design. So if you love sassy ombre tones and wild prints then check out this easy peasy tutorial!

1) Blank Canvas…

DSC02499

Starting off with the basics, it’s time to clean, prep and file the nails. Remember, when you’re filing the natural nail to sweep in one direction only to avoid any damage… my nails aren’t in tip-top condition at the moment so it really helps to deter any further nail catastrophes.

.

2) Pick Your Polishes…

DSC02500

Time to raid your stash for a selection of sassy shades. I’ve opted for bright spring colours that will hopefully give a bit of a sunset look during the ombre fading. However you can stick with multiple shades of the one colour, darks, neons, brights, pastels… the only limitations is your own creativity 😉

.

3) All About The Base…

DSC02505

In order to make the colours of your ombre effect stand out more vivid, it’s best to paint your nails in a white base coat. This doesn’t have to look finish perfect – it’s simply a base to brighten up the layers you’ll be adding on top!

.

4) The Sponge…

DSC02501

Ideally the best sponge to use is a wedge shaped sponge, however as I didn’t have any in stock (hehe) I opted for a basic circular sponge which I cut into quarters so I could easily get a few uses out of one sponge.

Ps: This could be a great way to make use of old beauty blenders that you’re ready to bin – just make sure they’re cleaned out really well and completely dry before applying polishes.

.

5) The Fun Bit...

DSC02506

The great thing I love about this look is that you really don’t need any expertise in nail art, it’s just a matter of layering the polishes onto your sponge and dabbing straight onto the nail. Easy peasy! If you’re unsure about how the colours will look try it sampling it on a false nail first… you can even buy little packs of falsies from a local discount store just to play around with some design ideas. In order to help your ombre fade out more, try dabbing your sponge lightly on the nail a few times to create a softer blend.

Ps: Just dab a cotton bud into some nail polish remover to wipe away the excess polish!

.

6) The Finishing Touches…

nail stamp

Naturally gals, your ombre will look absolutely gawjush if you just simply settle for adding a clear top coat. However if you do fancy adding a little bit of extra detail then why not invest in a nail stamping kit! They’re incredibly easy to use & you can create some really fun designs. You can find them on Amazon, Ebay or pretty much any beauty/nail art store. Most kits come with a stamper and selection of plates with funky designs you can stamp straight over the top of your polish. I opted for a fun animal print… okay so I might have gone a little bit stamper crazy but it’s definitely added character to my nail art!

.

Taaa Daa….

Ombre nail art

And here it is, the finished look… a sassy sunset ombre nail with a fun animal stamp in black polish straight over the top. I’ve also added a few coats of clear polish to ensure durability & extra wear!

The Lovin’ List: My Top Ten Picks of the Month…

Monthly Favourite

As we wave goodbye to yet another month, that can only mean one thing amongst the calendar of most beauty bloggers… the monthly favourites. Oddly enough I seem to have skipped the last couple as I usually like to keep a page in my organiser to remind myself exactly what I’ve been loving.. yes my memory is THAT bad(!!) However as March exits and April enters I find myself with a wealth of little bits & bobs that have managed to make me smile in many different ways throughout the last 4 weeks. So if you fancy finding out what’s been high on my ‘Lovin List’ then make yourself comfy and check out this lovely lot…

.

Nail Polish Rack

Ikea Picture Shelf Nail Polish Storage

Storing nail polish has always been a bit of a stickler for me. I’ve had boxes, bags & cute little drawer units, but nothing has compared to how handy this picture rack from Ikea has been! Now I can reach for whatever colour I like at a mere glance, without having to spend an age rummaging through hidden stashes to find that perfect shade. Best of all it well well under £10 & saves loads of space into the bargain!

.

Tesco LIVE Wax Melts

Tesco Live Wax Melts

I’m becoming rather impressed with some of the own-brand finds in my local Tesco’s of late, and being a lover of scented candles I simply had to invest in a few of these yummy looking little melts. I picked up the Vanilla, Damson & Pomegranate and Passionfruit & Melon. All of which smell absolutely divine and aren’t giving me a throbbing headache… unlike like many of the scented home goodies, including some of the elite brands! These cheerful little wax melts last such a long time too & are great value at under £2. Go get ‘em if you love a home filled with glorious scents too.

.

MAC Amplified Lipstick in Craving

Mac Amplified Lipstick in Craving

It may seem a tad deeper in the picture but don’t let it fool you as this stunning shade is totally build-able. It starts off as a sumptuous rosie pink and develops into a stronger tone the more you layer the formula. It’s incredibly comfy to wear and being rather pale in complexion I can vouch that it works wonders with lighter skin tones. Check out my post The Makeup Menu featuring MAC Craving to see a final look featuring this must-have shade!

.

Alex Drawer Set, Ikea

Ikea Alex Drawers Makeup Storage

What an investment for any beauty enthusiast! I bought the mini set which cost approx £40, but it’s by far the best investment for make-up storage I’ve purchased to date. Having browsed around the internet I couldn’t believe that some of the designer cosmetic bags cost just as much, if not more! If you need a stylish looking home to store all your beauty goodies in then look no further than Ikea Alex range… they have a chic and simple solution for almost everything.

.

William Morris Notebook Trio

William Morris Writer Notebooks

There comes a point in every stationery addicts journey when hoarding gloriously designed paper goods becomes a bit of an issue in stock piling – particularly when storage for a small army of note books, post-it-notes & office accoutrements is limited *sigh* One of my lovely friends treated me to this beautiful little trio of notepads quite a while back & it’s only now that I’m getting round to finally using them. I’m not gonna lie, it was a hard decision to make to use them, but the reality of buying no more stationery until I’ve used what I’ve got is a rule I’m determined to stand by. However, I’ve a lingering feeling that my blog buddy Emma from Puddleside Musings will at some point lead me astray with her cutesy paper purchases & awesome craft hauls!

.

Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar Palette & NYC Cream Blush

DSC02334

It’s all about radiant cheeks & a subtle dewy complexion for me this spring, and nothing has brought a delicious smidgen of glorious colour to my cheeks more than these two. I’m beyond impressed with the pigmentation and shade selection of the Makeup Revolution Golden Sugar palette, not to mention the creaminess of the NYC Beautifying Blushable Creme Stick in Soho Pink… perfect for those days when you just want a natural dewiness radiating from your skin. Love them both, though utterly gutted the NYC blush has now been discontinued *sob*

.

Kindle

DSC02343 DSC02344

Stocked with more Marian Keyes books that you could shake a librarians stick at, I’m very much in literary heaven. For quite a few months I went to bed without lifting my Kindle last year, which was unusual for me as I’m a nighttime reader. But from getting back into books since last October I’ve noticed that I’m sleeping better at night and looking forward to getting tucked into bed to find out what happens next. Now that the sunshine is making a more regular appearance I’ve even been able to sit out in the garden with it too – albeit with a few layers on, it aint summer yet gals! It may be one of the first edition kindles, but it’s working like a dream… how cute is the little owl cover that my brother bought me? hehe

.

Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pink Opal

Max Factor Excess Shimmer in Pink Opal

Since buying this shadow I don’t think there’s a day has gone by when I haven’t wore it. Super long lasting & the prettiest colour for spring, this is a gorgeous shadow for all you gals who adore an icy wash of pink (which works perfectly with a defined crease in a rich damson shadow, or any warm earthy tone) I adore the soft mousse formula that’s so easy to apply & sets beautifully without any creasing or moving. Max Factor have truly struck gold with this one.  *Click Here* to check out my very own eyelids modelling it proudly for y’all on Mondays Make-up Menu.

.

Barry M Brow Kit

Barry M Brow Kit Shape & Define a

EVERY time I wear this brow kit (and I do mean every!!) I always get asked and complimented on where I get my HD Brows done. Who would’ve guessed a mere £5 investment would have been so influential! The easy-peasy 3 step system consists of 1) Wax to smooth and shape, 2) Eyebrow powder to fill and define 3) Highlight powder to accentuate. It literally couldn’t be any simpler!  As many of you lovely lot already know I adore my brow products, but rummaging through my brow stash (including products ranging up to & slightly beyond £60) this is by FAR my favourite, and the one brow kit I reach for most often. If you haven’t tried it already then bump it to top of your shopping list, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it every bit as much as I do ❤

.

Spiral Hair Bobbles

Spiral Hair Bobbles

I honestly thought getting my hair cut a little shorter would save me hassle, instead it’s gave me more grief as whatever I do I have to constantly style it… gone are the days when I could leave it dry in bouncy spiral curls. One of the biggest challenges is keeping my follicles tied back neatly, and with them being much shorter than before my hair often slips out of the usual hair bands UNTIL I discovered these fabulous little life savers. If you have super-slippy hair that simply won’t hold its grip, then check these fabulous spiral bobbles out. They are phenomenal! Particular handy for gym-ers & swimmers who need a great solution for water or workouts. Available from Claire’s Accessories, Primark, Asda and a whole heap of other local stores!

.

My Beauty Room

beauty-room-and-office-space

I still give a little ‘EEEEP’ with excitement every time the words ‘Beauty Room’ rolls of my tongue. Having a spare room that was pretty much dormant of use 99% of the time, Steve suggested I use it as a little blogging/makeup haven, as a corner of our bedroom was vastly becoming stock piled with an army of lotions and potions. So with a teeny budget and a lot of hard work we embarked on transforming our little spare room into the fabulous Confetti & Curves sanctuary it is today. Keeping Up With Karen

Every time I prep a Keeping Up With Karen post I’m astounded at how quickly the weeks are rolling by. This weekend has been utterly fabulous, as it’s one of those lazy yet productive 48 hours. Rimmel Glitter in Sparkle Everyday

Rimmel Sparkle Everyday

As you can tell, there’s a bit of a Rimmel theme running in todays feature, but to be fair they’re such great polishes for such minimal spend. Okay, so this glitter (like pretty much every other) is a tad exhausting to remove but just look how pretty it is. Worth the effort? I think so! Pick yours up from Superdrug for £3.99.

The Natural Collection in Shimmer Pink

Natural Collection Shimmer Pink

What Spring nail polish catwalk collection would be complete without a baby pink to end the show? The staple of almost every Spring theme in one way or another. What I love about this polish is the micro glitter that runs through the entire formula, but doesn’t tend to effect removal too much at all. Such a beautiful soft shimmery pink – and for a mere £1.99 it’s the perfect pocket-money treat to brighten any tired looking post-winter nail 🙂

Keeping Up With Karen

I love Sunday mornings… the smell of coffee wafting through the house, bacon sizzling on grill pan as I flick open the laptop and get caught up on some blog scheduling. As much as I try to keep to eating healthy during the week, Sunday morning is always my guilty pleasure but then again I opted for a ‘vino free’ night out with the gals last night as we danced our heels off to an Abba tribute band 😀 Okay, so the music might be a little ‘before my time’ but who doesn’t love warbling “Thank yoooo for the mussssic…” at the top of their lungs?

However, if like me, you’re starting Sunday off on a rather chilled note and fancy glancing over what shenanigans has been happening on Confetti & Curves this week then here’s a quick catch up of what’s been happening on the blog over the past few days…

Champney’s Luxury Nail Polish Collection…

Champneys Nail Polish Main Blog Image 1

With spring lingering in the air, I’m getting a little bored of my deep winter shades and muted nudes. Heck, if my daffodils can make an early appearance then so can my spring polish shades, right gals? A few months ago I treated myself to this rather opulent set of Champneys Health Spa Luxurious Nail Polishes. For those of you who aren’t overly familiar with the Champney’s brand, it’s a range of stunning health spa’s renowned for their sumptuous range of exquisite beauty & body treatments. In addition with top class pampering they also have a range of highly tempting lotions & potions, which make the perfect gift for those who adore a little high end indulgence or as a treat… just for being you of course! 😉

Champneys Nail Polish Collection

So naturally, when I spotted this beautiful set of polishes that were available from Boots during the New Year sales I couldn’t resist the temptation… particularly as the entire set was reduced down to a mere £6 *gasp*. Potential bargain of the year? I think so ladies! Considering these polishes are currently available on the Champneys website for £5.00 each (which is already pretty good value) I was reaping a pretty impressive saving of £24… which I most likely went on to spend on topping up my basket full of more treat *sigh*

In the set is six staple (but stunning) shades including Nude, Pink, Wisteria, Plum, Mulberry & Clear Top/Base Coat. All of which seem to just ooze the appeal that your nails are going to look awesome whatever the season. Today I opted for the brightly coloured Wisteria which is an ever so delicate lavender shade that seems to just instantly brighten up my nails. Isn’t it beautiful?

But as pretty as they look, are they really worth the drastic saving let alone the full price spend?

Let’s take a closer peek…

Champneys nail polish set

The colour intensity is pretty strong, two coats and you’re left with perfectly polished nails, voila!

Streak free shine as yet again the formula really sets this apart from my recent polish trials.

You may not be a ‘pro’ at smooth application but in my opinion you really don’t need to be with these polishes as the formula is incredibly self-levelling which gives beautifully even results.

At £5 per single bottle, it really is affordable luxury that won’t break the bank.

Even compared to some of the supposed ‘gel like’ polishes I’ve tried, this range really supersedes all expectations. In fact it has a better finish than some of the over-hyped drug store brands that are considerably more expensive!

I personally find this set the perfect staple colours. From clear base/top coats, to soft baby pinks, cheery lavender tones and deep rich berries. There’s pretty much something for every season!

They’ve kept the packaging simple, contemporary & stylishly to the point. I personally adore the no fuss approach, and how pretty is the frosted gold lid just while we’re discussing style?

They’re made in England! Always great to find a brand that takes pride in manufacturing their products closer to home.

Apart from battling my way through boxing day crowds at Boots, this is the only outlet where I’ve recently spotted the range of Champneys polishes. As easy as it is to order online, I personally love to browse colour choices up close and personal, particularly as colour resolution on computer monitors can really throw some of the shades true tones.

Another little grumble was the lack of shaker in the bottle. A little steel ball inside the bottle to help ensure the colour is mixed and applies evenly would be the cherry on the cake for this lovely lot… and potentially help minimise some of the tiny air bubbles that I noticed after drying.

Champneys Wisteria

Personally ladies, I’m in love. The formula is fantastic compared to anything I’ve tried recently. On hindsight, and after testing, I would happily have paid the full price for this set and not uttered a grumble. If you’re thinking of giving Champneys polishes a go then don’t hesitate to treat yourself to a bottle (or six if opting for the gift set 😉 ) they really are everything you’d expect from a luxury spa mani!
