Autumn Inspired Makeup: Purple Smoky Eyes…

There’s few words that can truly portray just how excited I get for the arrival of fall… it’s undoubtedly my favourite time of the year! The gorgeous rich colours of the landscape, crunchy brown leaves tumbling to the ground, warm cosy scarves, boots and of course – makeup up to match *happy sigh*

In this week’s video I showcase (one of) my favourite looks for fall… a purple smokey eye and dramatic rich berry lip. Those fabulous colours never fail to get me in the mood for a spiced pumpkin latte and gingerbread cookie – not to mention dusting off my fairy lights and seasonal candles.

So if beautiful berry tones coupled with moody mauves is your kinda thing too then sit back & hit the play button. My entire makeup look is a cocktail combination of super affordable drugstore finds, so it’s just as pretty on your pocket as it is on your face 😀

Makeup Revolution: Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Palette

Bright, bold & beautiful is how I would describe the Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette at first glance. Boasting 32 gloriously vibrant colours to dress your lids in, there’s literally a shade selection for almost every occasion – and at £8, the price tag is most certainly pocket friendly.

Rummaging through my palette drawers I seem to be building quite a nifty little collection from Makeup Revolution. But it’s not just me that’s falling head over heels for their range of affordable cosmetics, makeup lovers all over the globe are raving about the outstanding pigmentation and long lasting wear of a majority of their lines. But does this colourful Mermaid really match the wow factor of her tempting price tag? Let’s take a closer peek…

MUR Mermaids Palette

So here they are, all 32 colours – ranging from soft neutrals, punchy peaches, vibrant pinks, deep blues, rich browns and beyond. There’s certainly no lack of thought gone into the gorgeous range of shades, and if you’re having a tricky time of selecting tones then you’ll notice that diagonally the colours are set in complimentary blocks of 4 to keep you on the right path to successfully matching colours, ensuring you get the perfect blend! Certainly a great start for beginners in lid fashion 😉

MUR Mermaids Palette a

As for the packaging, it’s simple & chic. Although I’d love to see the palettes personalised in outer case styling a little more, perhaps one of the reasons they’re so affordable is Makeup Revolution keeping everything low keyed and simple to justify the price point. However the bright metallic blue storage box is certainly an eye-catcher… but if truth be told, I’d much rather have a great internal product with minimal packaging than a disappointing product that looks like it’s been designed by the hands of Picasso.

Inside the palette the shadow pods are simple round pans. Granted they’re not overly big, so fluffly brushes beware! However for those that adore plenty of reflection room the mirror is huge (the entire size of the outer case) which makes it a great travel companion as you’ve every shade you’d need along with one giant mirror to play about with all the colours. Jolly hols = sorted!

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette

As for pigmentation… well, I must admit a few of the lighter colours (particularly in the first diagonal row) will need a little more work to really pack a punch, however the brighter colours are beautifully vibrant and blend incredibly well onto the skin. When I’m trying shadows for the first time I usually just pop them on a naked lid (no primer, foundation or base layer underneath) so I can really test the staying power on the skin. I applied my shadows at 11am and low and behold, they were still sitting just as pretty come 8 pm later that evening. A pretty impressive time frame for no base whatsoever, which of course can only get better with a great primer to pull out the intensity of the colour and help settle the shadows to prevent fallout or fading… which, I like I said, hasn’t been the case here. No primer and very happy lids many hours later *Yippeee*

All in all the Mermaids Forver Palette is certainly a winner in my eyes! Sure some of the lighter colours require a little bit more work (though I find that’s even the case in some of my high end palettes which are x5 more expensive) however a slightly dampened shadow brush really helps to restore the colour pigmentation and keeps the shadows consistency from risk at crumbling too.

The Final Look…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette Look DSC02420

What d’ya think gals? Today, I opted for a gorgeous mix of bright pinks – and keeping to the diagonal pink line, with just a touch of seashell in the inner corner, I thought the overall look was vivid and perfectly matched. Most definitely a palette I’ll be reaching for regularly and recommending to friends who love to hoard a selection of fabulous colours for special occasions or simple everyday use!

The Make Up Menu: Antique Rose…

Antique Rose Make Up Look Main Image 1

My cosmetic drawers are literally bunged to the hilt with a multitude of gorgeous colours, yet for me there is nothing quite as feminine and beautiful as the delicate rose shades, particularly when they’re fused with warm antique golds. Ideal for most skin tones, ages & seasons – soft pinks and warm metals is often one of my go to looks for almost any occasion.  Sound like your kinda thing too? Then hopefully you’ll fall as head over heels as I am for today’s Make Up Menu

.

AR face

Antique Rose Make Up Menu Face

L’Oreal Infallible Matte 24 Hour – Shade 11 Vanilla: I’m almost ¾ of the way through the tube yet I’m still bouncing between whether I ‘just’ like it or love it. It would seem the verdict hinges on the hydration of my skin. When it’s dry it under performs yet when my face is fresh and fully hydrated it does a fantastic job at staying put for as long as I need it too. Damn those dry skin days, thankfully yesterday wasn’t too bad & it stayed vibrant for the duration. Result!

.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer – Shade 2 Light/Beige: My quest for a decent drug store concealer continues. Having only used this the once I’m nowhere near ready to give solid feedback however (as I’m sure you’re all yelling at your computer screens for some sort of feedback) what I will say is that you have to work super quick to get this blended as it literally sets before the wand’s out of the tube. I’ll be trying it with a variety of foundations so keep your eyes peeled for a thorough review coming soon!

.

Sleek Face Form Contouring & Blush Palette – Shade 372 Fair: To be fair (excuse the pun) contouring really isn’t something I’m big into, simply because my skin is so fair. I always feel contouring could take my complexion to the edge of potentially resembling dirty unblended lines of foundation. However with this palette I actually have to make it work to contour; not entirely a bad thing in my opinion – a great palette for softly building and sculpting the cheek bones. Thumbs up!

.

Soap & Glory Peach Party Blush Block – Shade Apricot Jam: One of my favourite blushes, this is super beautiful, One stroke of your blush brush and voila – peachy perfect cheeks with a hint of dewy highlighter. It is stunning! If you haven’t got it in your collection already ladies make sure it’s top of your shopping list, you won’t be disappointed.

AR eyes

Make Up Academy (MUA) Pro Base Eye Primer: At a mere £2.50 this primer really does perform phenomenally well for the pocket friendly price tag. It most definitely keeps my shadow looking vibrant & crease free  – just as promised!

.

MUA Eye Shadow – Shade 22 Pearl: A beautiful soft pink that I used as a soft transitional shade along the crease line. Super pigmented & true to its colour, I love it.

Antique Rose Make Up Menu Eyes 2

MUA Eye Shadow – Shade 24 Pearl: Outer crease… very difficult to describe, the words mocha/rose/mauve all spring to mind to try. Undoubtedly beautiful, it’s a gorgeous deep antique shade that would compliment a variety of colours including purple, lavender, brown, pink, gold, copper… I could continue. Main thing is, it works wonders!

.

Maybelline Color Tattoo – Shade 05 Eternal Gold: All over the lid… not too brassy, I adore this warm gold colour that adds a subtle touch of glamour to the lids. I’m also super impressed at the longevity, without feeling heavy or overbearing.

Top Tip: blends so much easier when using your finger!

Antique Rose Eye Shadow

Rimmel Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner –Shade Black: My staple liquid liner, I’ve tried (almost) all of them and this gets the top spot every time. The super fine nib is incredibly precise and the black really is the darkest of blacks for a dramatic HD winged tip.

.

Barry M Brow Kit: A brow staple of mine, this cute little kit never fails to shape my brows into order. Highly recommended!

.

Barry M Lash Vegas Blackest Black Mascara with Fibres: Intrigued by this so called ‘fibre technology’ that has swept the mascara market, I had to give it a whirl. I have to admit it didn’t disappointment & certainly added length to my lashes however those looking for extra volume/thickness may be a little less impressed.

.

AR Lips

Antique Rose Make Up Menu Lips

Natural Collection Lip Liner – Shade Ruby Rose: I’m a huge fan of Boots Natural Collection range, not only are they incredibly affordable but the soft muted earthy shades are right up my street.

.

Max Factor Lipfinity – Shade Evermore Lush: Having been bowled over by the colour, I couldn’t resist testing out the Lipfinity range. From the first stroke it was beautiful creamy and could easily have been mistaken for a high end product. As for the staying power it really does last without feeling dry or uncomfortable. I’ll definitely be topping up my collection with a few more of these.

.

The Perfect Red Lip featuring CHANEL…

Chanel Red Lip

There’s no look quite as iconic as the classic red lip, wouldn’t you agree ladies? It oozes so much sophistication, style & sass. It’s actually quite amazing how a petite ruby tube of goodness hails as every girls staple in their cosmetic collection, even if it is something that can be incredibly intimidating to indulge in regularly.

Although it’s not a colour I wear every day (or every week come to think of it) it still remains a shade I tend to break out come the colder months of the year. One of my favourite red shades is the beautiful 444 Gabrielle by Chanelit’s definitely my most treasured red and the one I always reach for when my lips are craving a touch of delicious suave. However to ensure my daring red pout looks as impeccable as it can be, I always invest a little extra effort into the ‘prep & paint’ to create the perfect red lip…

.

Prep

1) Scrub

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub   Lip Prep Scrub

Using a little of the Lush Bubblegum lip scrub I gently rub my  lips to remove any dead skin that could make my red lips look uneven. Not only does this leave my lips feeling super fresh it tastes amazing too!

.

2) Balm

Lip Prep balm   W7 Lip Bomb

To ensure my lips stay hydrated I add just a little balm – not too much, just enough to stop them from feeling dry after the scrub!

.

3) Base

Lip Prep Base

Using my blending sponge I dab a little foundation onto my lips to create a very light base. I find this helps prime my lips, keeps the colour lasting longer and really brings out the shade so much more vividly.

.

Paint

1) Lip Line

Lip prep swatches   MUA Lip Liner Red Drama

I start off by lining my lips & today I’ve opted for MUA liner in Red Drama which is a deep sultry red that’s incredibly close to the Chanel Gabriella. This helps define the lip line and keep the lipstick from potentially bleeding onto the surrounding skin.

.

2) Infill

Lip Brush   Lip Prep Brush

Using smooth defined strokes, I fill the remainder of my lips in using this handy little retractable lip brush. The key to creating lasting colour is to build the layers slowly. Also, don’t forget to blot between layers. I added two to create a really intense, creamy lip.

.

3) Conceal

Lip Prep Conceal

To sharpen up the edges and stop any colour from bleeding I smooth off the edges with a little concealer. This really helps to create a smooth, sharp lip line that looks ultra neat.

.

4) Lip Lock

Lip Prep Lip cote   Lip Cote

Lastly, to keep my lip colour from transferring or fading prematurely I add a light layer of lip cote. This dries within seconds but keeps the colour locked in for hours; an essential if you’re wining or dining… we all know how messy a statement red lip can be, am I right gals? 😉

.

Pout

Red Lip Collage

Voila, my classic red lip is complete. What do you think? I personally adore this colour and usually wear it with a simple eye look to keep it as chic as possible.
