Pink Of The Bunch! My Favourite Blush Pink Lipsticks…

Pink Lipsticks

From MAC to Makeup Revolution, there’s no denying that a large bulk of my lippy stash is made up of beautiful blush pinks. Oddly enough I wouldn’t consider myself to be a ‘pink’ kinda girl, it’s not a colour I’d ever wear, nor is it something I’d decorate my house in – apart from my 10 year old’s bedroom and even that was more sparsely pink with a mixture of other bright tones mixed in. Yet when it comes to painting my lips, pink is the first colour I reach for. It’s comfortable, like my lips only better… much better in fact. So to pay homage to a few of my most cherished pinks what could be better than starting the week off with a fun feature than showcasing just a few of these fabulous colours. Sitting comfy? Then let’s get started…

.

MAC Amplified in Craving

MAC Craving

After receiving this as a little extra Christmas gift from my beloved hubby, I had only ever seen swatches of it online – and turns out it’s quite a bit darker than I realised. Thankfully it’s exactly what I need in my collection! It’s a beautiful deep pink with a hint of plum that is soft enough for daytime wear and can be built up quite dramatically at night. Needless to say the staying power is incredible, but with a modest prices tag of £15.50 coupled with their seemingly superior reputation I’d expect nothing less. Now if only they could work on making their in store customer service as good as the longevity of their lipsticks!

Makeup Academy in Shade 2

Makeup Academy Shade 2 Lipstick

The budget brand that punches well above it’s price tag. This lipstick I picked up for £1 in Superdrug, and although it’s a little more fuschia infused than I’d normally go for it’s such a pretty summery shade that works well with so many skin tones. Layer this lightly and you’ve a ‘my lips but better’ look going on, build it up and it’s a beautiful deep. For pocket money, it’s an everyday keeper in my opinion!

.

Bourjois Shine Edition in 24 Rose xoxo

Bourjois 24 Rose xoxo

It literally pains me to type these words *sob* but after hunting high and low it seems that Bourjois have discontinued what I consider my all time favourite pink lippy. It’s soft, smooth, moisturising and leaves your lips beautiful refreshed and natural looking. Think of a long lasting ‘pinky tinted’ balm and you’re on the right tracks! Unfortunately I can’t seem to find a perfect dupe either… maybe one day, but until then Ill be using this as sparingly as I can! *sigh*

.

Max Factor Lipfinity in 60 Evermore Lush

Max Factor Lipfinity 60 Evermore Lush

Claiming up to 8 hours wear, you’d literally have to sit like a mannequin in order to get your 480 minutes worth of long-lasting wear. Mean while on planet reality, expect a few good hours of impressive colour pay off. It doesn’t dry your lips out, and is very comfy to wear. The shade selection could be a bit more dazzling for those that like to explore out of the comfort zone… however I find this a great lippy for work as by midday all I need to do is dab a little balm over the top (I use EOS) and voila, the colour is subtly revived for another couple of hours.

Makeup Revolution Lip Hug in Love Can Set You Free

Makeup Revolution Lip Hug Love Can Set You Free

This is probably one of the most complimented lipstick I’ve ever purchased. Having taken a chance on this during my most recent HUGE Makeup Revolution haul, which you can check out by *Clicking Here*, I wasn’t really expecting anything out of the ordinary. How wrong I was. The formula of the Lip Hug almost feels high end, and the longevity of the product is just as fabulous – in fact I’ve tried a few expensive lippies that would be put to shame by this. For £2.50 I’d recommend, if not insist, you treat yourself to a tube pronto 🙂

Rimmel London Asia

Rimmel London Asia Lipstick

An old favourite. Rimmel’s Asia is something I’ve been wearing since my early teens. I love the dusky mauve pink colour with rich tones of latte mixed in for good measure.. and it’s relatively long wearing too. Even though it may be a 90’s throwback, there’s no denying this colour is still well in trend 20 years later. Not bad eh? 😉

17 Supreme Shine in Barely Blush

17 Supreme Shine Barely Blush

The packaging gave me hope that it was a potential dupe for my beloved (discontinued) Bourjois, as pictured further above. However when I swatched Barely Blush I was actually surprised at how matte the formula was compare to my initial expectations. On wear it’s super comfy (and not matte at all) and although it’s not a replacement for one of my all time faves it’s quickly become a shade I reach for regularly as it compliments my skin tone and goes with a multitude of shadow staples too!

Saturday Night Makeup featuring Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in Midnight Plum…

Maybelline Midnight Plum Colour Sensational Lipstick Review a

I know what you’re thinking… it’s that time of the year when shop shelves are lined with flip-flops, beach bags & bikini’s yet I’m still obsessing over deep berry shades when I should be shopping for colours like ‘bubblegum’ and ‘watermelon’. Thing is gals, when I’m glamming up for a night out I’m always lured back to the deep sultry tones regardless of whatever season it is. Oddly enough (as many of you already know) I’ve always been slightly intimidated by wearing darker lip colours. Maybe it’s my pale skin, or maybe I’m just not nudging myself enough to try something new more often? However, on a recent swatching session in Boots my eyes were drawn in by the gorgeous purple packaging of the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick range. It’s a purple vision, wouldn’t you agree?! *happy sigh*

DSC02657

Of course being a tad wary as to the shade name ‘Midnight Plum’ I instantly assumed it would be something of a striking blackcurrant colour that my pale pink lips would shrivel in fear of. Much to my delight the swatch proved a little more sheer than the name suggested, so into the basket it went with the matching lip liner *kerching*

DSC02670

Come Saturday night, the plans to catch up with the bestie felt like the perfect opportunity to test out the Colour Sensational Midnight Plum to see exactly how it would perform. From experience, swatching lippies on the back of the hand is a bit risky as quite often it looks so very different on the lips due to the colour of skin. Low and behold it turned out a little darker than I thought but not dark enough to make me whip out the baby wipes and start scrubbing.

DSC02671

Moving onto the rest of the make-up I decided to opt for more of a soft platinum shade on the eyes with blended berry tones on the outer crease to give a little bit of depth. Considering that the lip colour is quite a deep rich tone I tend to like to keep the rest of the make-up softer. I seem to live by the rule of having either feature eyes or feature lips but never (or very rarely) both.

For this I used the gorgeous Makeup Revolution Iconic 2 palette, the super-duper dupe to the Urban Decay Naked 2. If you fancy checking out another one of my recent looks with this palette *Click Here* for more info! The soft cool shade of a champagne/platinum made the perfect all over coverage whilst the Boots Seventeen Eye Shadow Trio in Enchanted Smoke lent the best blend of soft plum to compliment the lip colour without taking away from the overall look

DSC02673

Onto the cheeks and I opted for yet another raved about product from Makeup Revolution; the Ultra Blush Golden Sugar Palette. I LOVE this palette. The pigmentation is utterly gorgeous & it adds a perfect wash of colour to the cheeks with a subtle hint of dewy highlighter. I choose a slightly more mauve shade (as you can see with the halo of dust!!) again to compliment the berry tones of the lips and eyes.

DSC02675

For those of you who love to keep your brows on fleek, you should really check out this Brow Duo Pencil from Billion Dollar Brows. One end is a concealer, and probably one of the best for covering up a multitude of brow sins… and I have many!! *sigh* The opposite end is a highlighter, and although I’m not a fan of highlighting under the brow this is such a subtle yet effective product it gives the under brow a slight lift without any horrid over-reflective obviousness. At £20 from Beauty Bay it’s one of the most expensive pencils in my brow collection but it works!

DSC02674

Considering that I’m hoarding a small army of mascara’s, I decided to start using up some old favourites that haven’t seen the light of lashes for a number of weeks. For those of you who are on the lookout for a super affordable ‘HD’ mascara that adds length but still allow the lashes to retain a natural looking whispy-ness then I’d highly recommend you part with a mere £6.99 and invest in the Seventeen Falsifeye HD. This also comes highly recommended by the lovely Wayne Goss, and if it’s good enough for a celebrity MUA then it’s certainly good enough for my ‘mere mortal’ lashes 😉

The Finished Look…

Maybelline Midnight Plum Colour Sensational Lipstick Review Results

I have to admit, for a plum lippy this really wasn’t as crazy as what the name ‘Midnight Plum’ conjured up. If anything it seemed more of a deep raspberry (but without grumbling) that worked perfectly for me! As for longevity this is certainly worth the money, I applied it at 8 pm and by 2:30 am it was still going strong – and after a few nibbles and glasses it held up much better than I expected! It didn’t feel drying or uncomfortable, though I did run a little EOS balm over my lips every couple of hours to keep them feeling fresh rather than reapply which prevented any dryness and flaking. For £6.99 this really worked its socks off, felt incredibly comfy on and smelt like the inside of a sweetie factory… what’s not to love?! I’ll certainly be topping up my collection with a few more shades pretty soon!

The Make Up Menu featuring MAC ‘Craving’ Lipstick…

The Makeup Menu featuring MAC Craving Lipstick

As much as I fall head over heels for strong bold colours combined with sultry smokey eyes, it’s not something I reach for very often, in fact it’s rare that I do ‘over dramatic’ make up… unless of course I’m planning on hitting the tiles, and being an often exhausted mama who works her socks off & is addicted to blogging daily, I’m sure you can imagine there’s very little time for dancing around handbags under a mirror balls these days!

So instead I prefer to play it safe with my make up looks. Currently I’m building up a great collection of everyday staples that are affordable, long lasting and easy to wear. A delightful menu of cosmetics that keep my daily lust for a little glam more than happily topped up without going too overboard. Having received one of my most lusted over MAC shades for Christmas (the very beautiful Craving) I just couldn’t resist putting together a little ensemble of what I’ve been opting for this weekend…

.

Face

Face Makeup Menu

Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte in Warm Ivory: My go to foundation. This is the only foundation that totally retains its fresh looking tone throughout the entirety of the day without fading, drying or going patchy. It keeps my oily T-Zone under control, all whilst feeling softy & velvety to touch.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer in Fair: The only concealer (so far) that has really worked well without caking or drying. A must have for those who find most concealers either too heavy or alternatively slippy on the skin!

Make Up Revolution Hot Spice Blush Palette: This was sent to me as a tester sample, something that I’ve been itching to try… and it most certainly hasn’t disappointed. The colours are indeed subtle yet completely buildable. Ideal for pretty much all skin tones, it’s a beautiful selection of spicy shades to warm the complexion perfectly!

.

Eyes

Eye Makeup Menu

Make Up Revolution Iconic 2 Palette: This little eye shadow palette has absolutely gob smacked me. The colour pigmentation is incredible as is the longevity of wear. Shockingly, it’s super affordable yet really does give the high end rivals a run for their money. Combining a predominant mixture of shimmery metallic tones (along with a few complimentary earthy mattes) makes it a great palette for both day & night wear!

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black: One of my favourite mascaras at the moment, this formula leaves my lashes fluttery, separated yet adds lashings of length without  the dreaded clumping.

Billion Dollar Brows Best Sellers Kit: I’ve been trialing this kit quite a bit recently and have to say it has me utterly hooked. Never before have my brows looked so shapely & in such a natural form. The soft ashy tones work with both blondes and brunettes. Keep your eyes peeled for a full tutorial on the amazing kit that every brow fanatic needs in their makeup bag!

Lips

MAC Craving Lipstick

MAC Amplified Cream Lipstick in Craving: In my opinion this is pretty much a ‘my lips only MUCH better’ tone that is completely buildable to showcase a strong pop of playful pink or applied sparingly to keep a soft and natural lip shade that is perfect for everyday wear. The formula is incredibly comfortable & seems to mimic a feel that sits somewhere between matte & creamy… hence the longevity of a matte formula with the moisturising feel of a very slightly creamier texture. Gorgeous!

There you have it ladies, the finished look! For me, MAC Craving simply adds the perfect pop of pink that looks very slightly creamy but is super long lasting and incredibly complimentary to us gals sporting a slightly lighter complexion! Another new favourite to add to the collection 🙂

Lipcote: The Secret of Lasting Lipstick…

Lipcote Review

A few weeks ago I posted ‘The Perfect Red Lip featuring CHANEL‘ and was shocked to the bones to find out that quite a few of you lovely ladies weren’t already familiar with Lipcote. Having been asked multiple times to elaborate on Lipcote, many were super curious to know a little more about this mystical lip saviour. So seeing as the party season is firmly on our doorstep here’s exactly why you need this little bottle of pout potion to seal the deal…

.

lc01

My love affair with Lipcote started way back in the 90’s when statement lips were a high school disco essential *cringe* I was a huge fan of Rimmel’s Heather Shimmer back in the day, but trying to keep the colour locked in for the duration of my teenage school discos was a bit of a hassle, especially having to constantly reapply. However as destiny would have it I stumbled across a tiny bottle of Lipcote nestling amongst the shelves of my local pharmacy; intrigued at its claims of keeping my lipstick locked in place I bought a bottle not really expecting much, however since then it’s became each & every time I wear lipstick

Lipcote

.

lc02

“Lock Lippie to perfection. Lipcote, the Original Award Winning Lipstick Sealer is the secret of lasting kiss proof lipstick! From a girl’s night out, hen or wedding do, to a red carpet and catwalk event by the makeup professionals, this Brit beauty cult classic, made with natural ingredients is the ultimate makeup tool no self-confessed lipstick fan should be without!”

1) Colour your lips as usual & blot using a tissue to remove any excess. Repeat.

2) Apply an even layer of Lipcote over your lips & slightly beyond.

3) Keep your lips parted for a few minutes to ensure the Lipcote sets successfully.

Lip Prep Lip cote

lc04

On initial application the original version had a bit of a bitter waft & taste of alcohol due to the intensity of the formulation however fear not gals as thankfully the sassy Lipcote team have relaunched it with a new vanilla scent/flavour *woo hoo*  There can initially be a minor tingling/stinging sensation but again that tends to fade extremely quickly – however if your lips are dry or cracked avoid using for two reasons:

1) To prevent spread of bacteria or infection into the product

2) To prevent coiling yourself into a spring like position from the pain of what will feel like vinegar being poured into an open wound. Ouch!
.

lc05

Absolutely… for a 70ml bottle it’s a mere £3.60 which will likely last you 100 applications! Most definitely a wise investment if you’re a regular wearer of lipsticks, particularly bold colours as it works a treat by keeping the colour firmly on your lip rather than your wine glass, teeth, fingers, food, boyfriend… need I go on?

Lip Cote

.

lc06

I’ve been a fan of Lipcote for a number of years & it’s never let me down. Okay, the initial smell & slight stinging sensation may not convert everyone into being as much of a fanatic BUT it’s affordable, long lasting, easy to use & doesn’t turn a matte lip shiny – thanks to it’s quick drying invisible formula. For £3.60 I think it’s beauty bargain… for keeping my lipstick locked to my lips all night long – it’s invaluable!

The Perfect Red Lip featuring CHANEL…

Chanel Red Lip

There’s no look quite as iconic as the classic red lip, wouldn’t you agree ladies? It oozes so much sophistication, style & sass. It’s actually quite amazing how a petite ruby tube of goodness hails as every girls staple in their cosmetic collection, even if it is something that can be incredibly intimidating to indulge in regularly.

Although it’s not a colour I wear every day (or every week come to think of it) it still remains a shade I tend to break out come the colder months of the year. One of my favourite red shades is the beautiful 444 Gabrielle by Chanelit’s definitely my most treasured red and the one I always reach for when my lips are craving a touch of delicious suave. However to ensure my daring red pout looks as impeccable as it can be, I always invest a little extra effort into the ‘prep & paint’ to create the perfect red lip…

.

Prep

1) Scrub

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub   Lip Prep Scrub

Using a little of the Lush Bubblegum lip scrub I gently rub my  lips to remove any dead skin that could make my red lips look uneven. Not only does this leave my lips feeling super fresh it tastes amazing too!

.

2) Balm

Lip Prep balm   W7 Lip Bomb

To ensure my lips stay hydrated I add just a little balm – not too much, just enough to stop them from feeling dry after the scrub!

.

3) Base

Lip Prep Base

Using my blending sponge I dab a little foundation onto my lips to create a very light base. I find this helps prime my lips, keeps the colour lasting longer and really brings out the shade so much more vividly.

.

Paint

1) Lip Line

Lip prep swatches   MUA Lip Liner Red Drama

I start off by lining my lips & today I’ve opted for MUA liner in Red Drama which is a deep sultry red that’s incredibly close to the Chanel Gabriella. This helps define the lip line and keep the lipstick from potentially bleeding onto the surrounding skin.

.

2) Infill

Lip Brush   Lip Prep Brush

Using smooth defined strokes, I fill the remainder of my lips in using this handy little retractable lip brush. The key to creating lasting colour is to build the layers slowly. Also, don’t forget to blot between layers. I added two to create a really intense, creamy lip.

.

3) Conceal

Lip Prep Conceal

To sharpen up the edges and stop any colour from bleeding I smooth off the edges with a little concealer. This really helps to create a smooth, sharp lip line that looks ultra neat.

.

4) Lip Lock

Lip Prep Lip cote   Lip Cote

Lastly, to keep my lip colour from transferring or fading prematurely I add a light layer of lip cote. This dries within seconds but keeps the colour locked in for hours; an essential if you’re wining or dining… we all know how messy a statement red lip can be, am I right gals? 😉

.

Pout

Red Lip Collage

Voila, my classic red lip is complete. What do you think? I personally adore this colour and usually wear it with a simple eye look to keep it as chic as possible.
