Behind The Blog featuring Deborah Bazeley…

Deborah Bazeley Wanderlust

Hey Blog Buddies,

Before we jump right into today’s exciting addition, I’d like to thank y’all soooo much for your lovely comments on yesterdays post the Spring Inspired Makeup Menu featuring Max Factor. I’m chuffed you guys enjoyed the finished look, your comments we’re indeed a treat to read! Also, quite a few of you seem just as impressed with the gorgeous Excess Shimmer shadow as what I am! It really is just as stunning up close & personal ❤

Talking of up close & personal, I have a incredibly inspiring gal gracing the virtual sofa today as the gorgeous Deborah Bazeley stops by for a quick chatter on her blossoming lifestyle blog: Deboarh Bazeley Wanderlust. As much as I adore my daily news feed sprinkled with beauty related news & reviews, I’m also a great fan of travelling, lifestyle & heaps of encouragement when it comes to *trying* to be a little more health conscious… heaven knows I need all the inspiration I can get from the aftermath of the Easter weekend *hides a multitude of chocolate egg wrappings*

So if all this sounds like something you’d love to check out too then get yourself over to Deborah’s blog – word of warning though, you may end up getting slightly addicted as it’s packed full of a multitude of fun features: procrastinators beware! 😀

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Backpacking, healthy living, fitness + humour

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I discovered blogging back in 2011 when I was in my final year of university. I attempted to write a number of blogs ranging from a cringey anonymous relationship blog (less Carrie Bradshaw and more Bridget Jones) to an incredibly embarrassing politics blog (I was studying Political Science at the time). The idea of having a free platform on which to voice your opinions and be published was almost unheard of back then, and I jumped at the opportunity.

However, my travel and lifestyle blog (and the one that you see today) began when I merely wanted to document my solo backpacking adventure through South America, USA, Fiji and New Zealand for my friends and family. I wrote purely for fun and from the heart, and it was the first and only blog of mine to receive a decent amount of hits and followers. From there, I started writing stories and discussing lifestyle and fitness, and I’ve never left it since no matter where I have been in the world!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Deborah Bazeley (‘Bazeley’ is pronounced ‘Baze-ley’, like ‘paisley’) is my full name and super easy to find on Google. I also wanted my name to be the primary focus so that if my travels ever stopped or if I wanted to talk about topics beyond backpacking, my blog could expand.

Wanderlust is the irresistible urge to travel, but I also see it as the urge to explore life itself. My blog is about exploring the world with our minds and bodies, as well as our passports. That’s why you will find everything from fitness posts, to solo female travel advice and reviews, to creative writing pieces.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! At those times there are a few things I do. The first is that I go for a walk as this is when all of my best ideas come to me. Secondly, I read other blogs and scour Pinterest for ideas. Thirdly, I ask myself “What information would you have found useful when…[travelling, writing, getting into the gym, etc]?”. (This was how I came up with my First Time Backpacker Series.) Fourthly, and finally, I write any old thing down and tell myself that it will be good enough – blogger’s block often comes when we’re determined to be the best, or when we start comparing our blog to other people’s. Some of my most popular posts are the ones that I thought to be my worst! Write it, edit it, add a picture and tell yourself, “It is good enough.”

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I would say my first post because it’s where I began, but my absolute favourite was my “Bridget Jones in Ilha Grande” post. It’s written in the style of the Bridget Jones’ Diary series, but it is actually what happened to me on a beautiful island off the coast of Brazil. The horny couple, the storm and the food ordering debacle are all real!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Jeans/leggings, loose t-shirt, check shirt over the top + Converse (or boots in winter). Easy, comfortable and simple.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Rimmel’s Radiance BB cream – it’s light and yet offers pretty good coverage, and it’s hands down my favourite BB cream that I’ve tried so far.

Coconut oil in my hair – I have so many hair masks, but nothing softens my hair like coating it in coconut oil overnight and washing it off in the morning.

Radiant overnight mask (skin phase 2)

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I have the same routine every evening: Turn on my fairy lights and light the candle by my bed. Write in my journal (I’ve kept a diary since I was 10). Write down five things that I am grateful for, as well as the happiest moment of that day. Then I curl up in my bed with my colouring book and my two ragdoll cats (called Merry and Pippin), and watch some Netflix.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Netflix, cuddles with my cats, a good hearty meal, and either my friends, family or boyfriend. I haven’t been particularly interested in going out or partying for more than a year now!

.

What do you do to relax?

If I’m really wound up and have a tension headache, I do a four minute meditation and stretch out like I used to in ballet class. Otherwise I go for a refreshing walk/run or I lift some weights in the gym.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails, and I let anxious thoughts run the show a lot of the time.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I don’t have a specific one, but my parents, brother and I would all go for either a hike or a bike ride every weekend. We didn’t have proper gear or fancy bikes as we didn’t have much money, but all of my best childhood memories come from those trips. Plus, I have never felt fitter or more alive as I did back then!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

English, though I equally loved Politics when I reached A-levels.

 .

What’s your dream job?

Full time cat nanny, but I will settle for working in marketing!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working in marketing, writing and blogging, living with cats (and hopefully my boyfriend!), and exploring the world.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Learn French and practice my skills in France, volunteer for a cause I believe in, travel South East Asia, write a novel, and go on safari somewhere in Africa.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Travelling by myself around the world. I started in Brazil and I was utterly terrified as I suffered with General Anxiety Disorder, but I faced my fears and did it anyway.

.

Who inspires you?

Elizabeth Gilbert – I am such a walking cliché with my adoration of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, but I bloody love both her writing style and her worth ethic.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it.

I used to get so worried about what people would think of my writing (“What if they hate it?” or “What if I write something that I would be embarrassed of in the future?” or “What if no one reads it at all?”), but after a few posts I realised that when you first start out, the only people who will really read your blog are your friends and family (ie. the people who support you the most). This makes it a hell of a lot less scary and takes the pressure off when you first start posting content! See it simply as a chance to practice your writing skills (try to keep all posts to around 1000 words) and share your thoughts.

When you feel ready, get on social media and seek out similar blogs and new blogger friends, and get sharing and posting. Networking and supporting others is the only way that your blog will grow – take an interest in the community, and it will welcome you back.

How To Get Things Done In 10 Ways

Hey Beauty Buddies…

A maaaahoosive thank you to everyone yesterday who stopped by Confetti & Curves to check out Building A Beauty Room, I can honestly say that I’m bursting with excitement now that it’s slowly coming together – in fact I was even able to filming tomorrows YouTube video in it so you’ll catch a quick glimpse of some of the hard work that’s gone into making the makeup haven/office a reality 🙂 Not long to go until I’m able to give you guys a proper tour, and of course in the mean time if you’ve any links for cute little knick-knacks or storage essentials pop them my way & I’ll be sure to check them out!

However onto today’s fun-filled post as I’m deeeelighted to introduce y’all to thee gorgeous Allison from How To Get Things Done In 10 Ways! Sounds intriguing right? But I’m sure and certain you’ll have such a fun time getting to know this wonderfully witty blogger along with her quirky & hilarious scribed lifestyle & humorous ‘how to’ features. In fact if you’re anything like myself you’ll wholeheartedly appreciate Allison’s ‘Awkward’ category that has literally had me chortling out loud on a few occassions… so be warned if you decide to pay a visit whilst out in public! Last time I read her ‘How To Cry About Pretty Much Anything In 7 Ways‘ I got a few concerned glances in Costa’s whilst disastrously trying to stiffle giggles between sipping on a Cafe Caramella, which I admit wasn’t a pretty sight. Needless to say the store staff now seem to flash me sympathetic looks & over friendly smiles since the incident… you have been warned ladies 😀

Although I usually suggest a cuppa with these posts it may be best to hold that action today chums as there’ll be giggles a plenty with this gal around…

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Randomness

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I told one of my friends that I had been thinking about it for awhile but had no clue what to call it or what to write about. Then she told, “Just do it.” She was right, I really had nothing to lose, so I figured heck yeah, let’s do it!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I had no idea what to name my blog. I wanted it to be cool, clever, quirky, a play on words, something just awesome (I also told my mom that she should have named me better so I could do a play on my name. Ha ha!) Anyway, my friend told me that I give good advice, so I could do an advice blog about different/random things. I immediately thought, “Oooooh, like Andy Anderson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?! I’ve always thought she was so cool in that movie!” And then my friend said, “Yes! And you could name your blog How to Get Things Done in 10 Ways!” And boom. That’s how that happened.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I definitely do! Don’t we all?! When I start feeling this way I just start thinking about why I started blogging and how I never stick with anything, so I should really give this a shot, especially since I love it so much! Also, the boyfriend always likes playing video games, so when he plays his games, I pull out the laptop and just start reading other blogs, surfing Pinterest for inspiration, and just jot down titles for posts, then when I have more time I start writing them.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh this is a hard one! Can I choose two? They’re actually posts from the beginning of my blog days, so while they lack pictures, I just love the content. I love being able to make fun of myself before someone else does and these just make me laugh every time I look at them again. But How to Not Be That Drunk Girl in 10 Ways (https://tenways10.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/how-to-not-be-that-drunk-girl-in-10-ways/) and How to be Awkward in the Workplace in 10 Easy Steps (https://tenways10.wordpress.com/2015/09/11/how-to-be-awkward-in-the-workplace-in-10-easy-steps/) are definitely the top ones in my mind.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Casual cute? Is that a style? I like to wear jeans. Love to wear jeans, and a nice sweater, scarf, cute jacket, and some nice boots. I like to be comfortable, but also look like I put in a little bit of effort into my outfit.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Clinque Even Better Liquid Foundation – pure amazingness in a bottle and covers absolutely anything and everything. I use this everyday.

It’s So Big Mascara – because it really does my lashes “so big”

NYX Makeup Setting Spray – I used to use the Urban Decay one, but this one is so much more affordable and just as nice!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I honestly like to come home, lay down on the couch, and turn on the TV. A nice cold beer or glass of wine is never far off either. I just like to chill and occupy my mind off of the stresses of the day.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Hanging out with friends. Just having awesome conversations, and awesome laughs. The boyfriend and I have grown to be pretty mellow. We just like being able to get together with our friends and hang.

.

What do you do to relax?

Become a couch potato. Straight up. It helps me unwind my body and brain.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails when I get nervous or stressed. It’s terrible because they’re normally pretty good, until something upsets me and I just destroy them. It’s terrible.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?.

Probably when my sister and I would play Lion King (she was always Simba, and I was Nala) and we would crawl around the house acting like lions. One day we decided that the recliner chair would be the perfect Pride Rock, so we both climbed to the top of it and then it tipped over and sent us flying to the ground! What dorks! But it still makes me laugh every time.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I actually really liked math. I was so good at it, and once it makes sense it was just the greatest feeling ever. I went all the way through Calculus and I loved it.

.

What’s your dream job?

I honestly have no idea. Something where I would get paid a lot, but I could write, and travel, and eat good food, and just know that every day of work was what I really wanted to be doing everyday. I’ve always kind of wanted to work for a magazine. I really like the graphic design aspect of that.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully either buying or had bought my own home, have a job that doesn’t make me stress out all the time, and maybe a puppy. Maybe. Or a kitten. I could do with either 🙂

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Travel back to Europe

Travel to Australia

Go through a corn maze

Throw a pie in someone’s face

One of those safari bed and breakfasts

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date…I would probably say that I saved my money and was able to put myself through a study abroad program for 3 months and it was the most life changing experience I’ve ever had.

.

Who inspires you?

Women in general. Women that go after what they want and don’t care about what others think. The women that want to challenge society and prove that they can do/say/be whatever they want.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

My favorite quote is by Robert Frost: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Could not be truer. Don’t dwell on things; because in a few weeks, months, years, will it really have mattered?

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Write about whatever you want. Don’t hold back – people will either like it or they won’t and it won’t matter because it’s your blog anyway.

Don’t be afraid to use pictures! People are very visual, and seeing pictures brings the whole thing together! I was nervous about putting pictures up, but it’s the internet, people are going to find what they want if they want it.

Stick with it! It might be weird at first but it gets easier. I blogged for two months without telling anyone because I didn’t want them to read it because I was embarrassed, but after that little hump, I started telling people gradually and now I’m like, “I don’t care. I like to blog. Go check it out, here’s the website.”

Behind The Blog… featuring Kayla from Bambi Leigh

Bambi Leigh

Morning Chums…

Last night as I nestled my posterior onto a comfy chair for a spot of blog reading & virtual chit-chat; a shocking amount of THEE most annoying pop-up ads appeared before my very eyes. Cue at least 2 friggin painful hours of trying to figure out how the heck to rid my poor computer of such shenanigans. Needless to say my stress levels where stratospheric as I wondered which window would be best to fling my laptop through…. you’ll be please to know I regained (most) of my sanity after finally resolving the issues all on my lonesome. *No computers where harmed in the process* but I gotta admit gals, I did feel like an Irish/female version of Bill Gates after rectifying such an ordeal *energetic air punch*  Ahh my love/hate relationship with interweb technology never fades…

However onto much more cheerful tidings of joy as I introduce y’all to one of my fav little WordPress rock chicks – the gorgeous Kayla from Bambi Leigh. Many of you will undoubtedly already be familiar with Kayla’s giggle inducing posts, but for those of you who aren’t it’s pretty much essential you treat your peepers to a dose of this extremely witty gals features. So if you fancy your beauty & lifestyle posts laced with a little laughter & peppered with smidgen of random quirkiness then look no further ladies as Kayla has it sussed. However before you pop over to say a huge hello check out her hilarious interview below. Ready for a giggle? Then it’s time to get to know the girl Behind The Blog

Kayla

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Humour, sarcasm, f**kery and a little beauty and style thrown in 😉

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Honestly? Boredom. When I first got started I wasn’t really aware of the whole blogging community, so it was just a creative outlet and a way to connect with like-minded people! I lost pretty much all my friends so I needed somewhere to tell people about the new mascara I’ve been loving or why I don’t like that new movie – luckily I found a group of people that seem to care!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Bambi came from my boyfriend taking the mick out of how clumsy I was and Leigh is my middle name so I just mashed the two together! If I could pick again I’d drop the Bambi and just have Kayla Leigh though.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Sob into my cheerios. I know that everyone says to take a break and try to completely forget about your blog for a while, but I tried that once and went nearly a year without posting! I usually just pick up my camera and start taking photos of something that I like and then I’m usually hit with a post idea!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh this is hard! The first one that popped to mind is my Populuslive Haul. I enjoy haul posts anyway but I think this one stands out as everything was basically free!

https://bambileigh.wordpress.com/2015/04/27/populus-live-haul/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Black trousers, black shoes, and a blue tunic – my work uniform!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Currently I’d have to say my Tartelette palette, the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara and the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. But it’ll probably change next week!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A nice shower or bath, YouTube or American Horror Story and an early night! Maybe with a bit of online shopping thrown in 😉

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

See above! But throw in a super unhealthy Indian takeaway with a cheesy naan or a Chinese takeaway with lots of crispy chilli beef… Mmmmm (FYI: I have ruined my diet for the day and just ordered a Chinese all because of this question!)

.

What do you do to relax?

Sleep! But if I nice nap isn’t feasible I’ll make a hot drink, grab a snack and watch some David Attenborough

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I always touch my right temple so there’s constantly loads of tiny little weird spot bumps in that area and I ALWAYS scratch at them. Luckily they’re not really noticeable but that area does go really red when I’ve been having a scratch session.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Most cherished? How bad is it that I can’t think of anything?! I used to really enjoy going to Tesco with my Nan and Grandad and sharing a muffin in the café though J

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Is there such a thing? I wouldn’t say favourite, but I did enjoy Applied Business. Not so much the subject – more so the fact that the teacher was always high on pain meds so we could play Impossible Quiz all day.

.

What’s your dream job?

If I HAD to choose just one I’d go with special effects makeup artist, but go and check out this post to find out about four other I’d love to do!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully making more money than I am now and living in a nice house with a kid or two! Maybe in the US!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list!

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I’d say moving out of my Mum’s I think. I thought I’d be living at home until I was about 30 because it just seemed too expensive but I’m happy that I can (just about) afford my own place!

.

Who inspires you?

I don’t really have anyone that I look up to much, but I look at everyone around me for inspiration – if you look close enough there’s always something!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I wouldn’t say it’s inspirational, but; ‘Those who matter don’t mind, and those that mind don’t matter’

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Stop being a wimp and do it! There shouldn’t be anything stopping you. If you’re not sure what you want to blog about just start writing posts about whatever you like until you figure it out – you can always delete old posts! And have a look what different hosts offer you rather than just going with the most popular as it may not be right for you 🙂

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = I’m not choosing – don’t be mean Karen!

Coke or Pepsi = Neither!

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = Super organised (says the girl who’s sofa is currently covered in wires and there’s about five bras on the bedroom floor)

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = Cute kitten

Night In or Night Out = Night in

Heels or Flats = Flats

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = Lip stick – keep that sticky devil shit away!

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Rock chick at heart!

Paperback or E-book = I love a paper back but they take up too much room so I’ll go with E-book
