How To Get Things Done In 10 Ways

Hey Beauty Buddies…

A maaaahoosive thank you to everyone yesterday who stopped by Confetti & Curves to check out Building A Beauty Room, I can honestly say that I’m bursting with excitement now that it’s slowly coming together – in fact I was even able to filming tomorrows YouTube video in it so you’ll catch a quick glimpse of some of the hard work that’s gone into making the makeup haven/office a reality 🙂 Not long to go until I’m able to give you guys a proper tour, and of course in the mean time if you’ve any links for cute little knick-knacks or storage essentials pop them my way & I’ll be sure to check them out!

However onto today’s fun-filled post as I’m deeeelighted to introduce y’all to thee gorgeous Allison from How To Get Things Done In 10 Ways! Sounds intriguing right? But I’m sure and certain you’ll have such a fun time getting to know this wonderfully witty blogger along with her quirky & hilarious scribed lifestyle & humorous ‘how to’ features. In fact if you’re anything like myself you’ll wholeheartedly appreciate Allison’s ‘Awkward’ category that has literally had me chortling out loud on a few occassions… so be warned if you decide to pay a visit whilst out in public! Last time I read her ‘How To Cry About Pretty Much Anything In 7 Ways‘ I got a few concerned glances in Costa’s whilst disastrously trying to stiffle giggles between sipping on a Cafe Caramella, which I admit wasn’t a pretty sight. Needless to say the store staff now seem to flash me sympathetic looks & over friendly smiles since the incident… you have been warned ladies 😀

Although I usually suggest a cuppa with these posts it may be best to hold that action today chums as there’ll be giggles a plenty with this gal around…

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I told one of my friends that I had been thinking about it for awhile but had no clue what to call it or what to write about. Then she told, “Just do it.” She was right, I really had nothing to lose, so I figured heck yeah, let’s do it!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I had no idea what to name my blog. I wanted it to be cool, clever, quirky, a play on words, something just awesome (I also told my mom that she should have named me better so I could do a play on my name. Ha ha!) Anyway, my friend told me that I give good advice, so I could do an advice blog about different/random things. I immediately thought, “Oooooh, like Andy Anderson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?! I’ve always thought she was so cool in that movie!” And then my friend said, “Yes! And you could name your blog How to Get Things Done in 10 Ways!” And boom. That’s how that happened.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I definitely do! Don’t we all?! When I start feeling this way I just start thinking about why I started blogging and how I never stick with anything, so I should really give this a shot, especially since I love it so much! Also, the boyfriend always likes playing video games, so when he plays his games, I pull out the laptop and just start reading other blogs, surfing Pinterest for inspiration, and just jot down titles for posts, then when I have more time I start writing them.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Oh this is a hard one! Can I choose two? They’re actually posts from the beginning of my blog days, so while they lack pictures, I just love the content. I love being able to make fun of myself before someone else does and these just make me laugh every time I look at them again. But How to Not Be That Drunk Girl in 10 Ways (https://tenways10.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/how-to-not-be-that-drunk-girl-in-10-ways/) and How to be Awkward in the Workplace in 10 Easy Steps (https://tenways10.wordpress.com/2015/09/11/how-to-be-awkward-in-the-workplace-in-10-easy-steps/) are definitely the top ones in my mind.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Casual cute? Is that a style? I like to wear jeans. Love to wear jeans, and a nice sweater, scarf, cute jacket, and some nice boots. I like to be comfortable, but also look like I put in a little bit of effort into my outfit.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Clinque Even Better Liquid Foundation – pure amazingness in a bottle and covers absolutely anything and everything. I use this everyday.

It’s So Big Mascara – because it really does my lashes “so big”

NYX Makeup Setting Spray – I used to use the Urban Decay one, but this one is so much more affordable and just as nice!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I honestly like to come home, lay down on the couch, and turn on the TV. A nice cold beer or glass of wine is never far off either. I just like to chill and occupy my mind off of the stresses of the day.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Hanging out with friends. Just having awesome conversations, and awesome laughs. The boyfriend and I have grown to be pretty mellow. We just like being able to get together with our friends and hang.

.

What do you do to relax?

Become a couch potato. Straight up. It helps me unwind my body and brain.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails when I get nervous or stressed. It’s terrible because they’re normally pretty good, until something upsets me and I just destroy them. It’s terrible.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?.

Probably when my sister and I would play Lion King (she was always Simba, and I was Nala) and we would crawl around the house acting like lions. One day we decided that the recliner chair would be the perfect Pride Rock, so we both climbed to the top of it and then it tipped over and sent us flying to the ground! What dorks! But it still makes me laugh every time.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I actually really liked math. I was so good at it, and once it makes sense it was just the greatest feeling ever. I went all the way through Calculus and I loved it.

.

What’s your dream job?

I honestly have no idea. Something where I would get paid a lot, but I could write, and travel, and eat good food, and just know that every day of work was what I really wanted to be doing everyday. I’ve always kind of wanted to work for a magazine. I really like the graphic design aspect of that.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully either buying or had bought my own home, have a job that doesn’t make me stress out all the time, and maybe a puppy. Maybe. Or a kitten. I could do with either 🙂

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Travel back to Europe

Travel to Australia

Go through a corn maze

Throw a pie in someone’s face

One of those safari bed and breakfasts

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date…I would probably say that I saved my money and was able to put myself through a study abroad program for 3 months and it was the most life changing experience I’ve ever had.

.

Who inspires you?

Women in general. Women that go after what they want and don’t care about what others think. The women that want to challenge society and prove that they can do/say/be whatever they want.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

My favorite quote is by Robert Frost: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Could not be truer. Don’t dwell on things; because in a few weeks, months, years, will it really have mattered?

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Write about whatever you want. Don’t hold back – people will either like it or they won’t and it won’t matter because it’s your blog anyway.

Don’t be afraid to use pictures! People are very visual, and seeing pictures brings the whole thing together! I was nervous about putting pictures up, but it’s the internet, people are going to find what they want if they want it.

Stick with it! It might be weird at first but it gets easier. I blogged for two months without telling anyone because I didn’t want them to read it because I was embarrassed, but after that little hump, I started telling people gradually and now I’m like, “I don’t care. I like to blog. Go check it out, here’s the website.”

Trick or Treat? Happy Halloween from Confetti & Curves…

Trick or Treat Halloween 2015a

Face paints, toffee apples, fireworks & a whole lotta headache… yes it’s that time of year (once again) where we load our cars with oversized vegetables to spend an evening covered in seeds and stringy gloop in the hope that our fruitful efforts will wield some sort of impressive yet terrifying organic candle holder *rolls eyes*

I’e already had droves of mini skeletons & Dracula’s grace my door with their chanting and tiny treat bags. It seems the older I get the more it all becomes a bit of a kerfuffle & unnecessary hassle, yet deep down my mischievous inner child secretly loves the fancy dress & distinctive aroma of brightly coloured screeching rockets. Of course this all leads to the perks of having a 10 year old daughter as there’s a solid excuse to roll the sleeves up and get caught up in the Halloween fun…and this year was no exception.

As school ended last week for mid term, Emma dived into the car declaring she’d won best dressed at her school party *woo hoo* Clearly my horrendous 5am make-up attempts worked a treat – that’s the great thing about zombie cosmetics, the worse looking the better! Of course this pre-empted me being summonsed to Tesco’s fruit & veg aisle to dig out two heavy weight pumpkins that would kick start the spooky shenanigans. So in honour of what turned out to be an evening of Halloween fun, here’s a little peek at what ghostly goings on have been happening in Confetti & Curves HQ these last few days…

.

Emma  Emma2

Okay, so I’ve cheated with Em’s photograph & used last years piccies (yep, I forget to take those essential proud parent snaps this year *groan*) but in honesty this years costume wasn’t a kick in the rump of last years. All much the same, needless to say it’s still quite a transformation – not bad right? 😉

Pumpkins Tesco

As for our trip to Tesco’s here’s the two monsters we arrived home with… my poor back trying to lug this pair in and out of the trolley!!

bat png

Pumpkin Carving

And so the carving begins by firstly scooping out the rancid innerds. I must admit, the stench of pumpkin doesn’t make my mouth water. Thankfully these two weren’t (too) bad… indeed my Yankee Candles were saved for another day. However the kitchen table was more like a scene from a vegetarian horror movie.

bat png

The concentration on Emma’s face… her Jack Skellington creation took complete silence and focus. I on the other hand was happily drawing simple little triangles. Can’t beat a bit of tradition.

bat png

illooms light up balloons for Halloween

Being a bit of a worry wart when it comes to naked flames, I spotted this pack of 5 illoom light up balloons on offer (also in Tesco) for a mere £2.50. No need to worry about candles etc, these are so much safer to use and last an impressive 15 hours! Quite the bargain, don’t you think?

bat png

Pumpkin Carving 1

Voila! Our work is complete. Considering I’ve a good 13 years experience on Emma I’m a tad deflated that mine looks a bit ‘meh’ in comparison to Jack Skellingotn… not that I’m competitive or anything *pfft*

bat png

I’ll be Instagraming a pic of these frightful faces lit up with their illoom balloons on Saturday night, so keep your eye’s peeled and do let me know that you think! Now just to prepare for Saturday nights Monster Mash festival & firework display 😉

.

Have you any fun plans for Halloween? Or will you be locking the doors & closing the curtains in hope to avoid as much of it as you can?  Whatever you’re up to stay safe & have fun!

The Chubby Bunny Challenge…

Moi, participating in The Chubby Bunny Challenge… You can’t be serious?

That’s right gals, there’s not a mascara wand or blusher brush to be seen in this weeks video & considering that I’ve been contemplating whether or not to release this into the public domain I fear it’s either going to tragically kill or bizarrely boost the ratings of my little Channel… for all the wrong reasons *shakes head in shame*
However, seeing as my fabulous step-daughter Hayley & her boyfriend Tim were visiting for a few days it would have been an utter shame to part ways without some sort of cringe-worthy souvenir, right? 😉

Just over 4 minutes of possibly the most unattractive footage you’ll lay your lamps on this year… however I do hope you enjoy watching half as much as we did filming!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

My obsession passion for makeup, skincare and beauty as a whole. I bore my boyfriend everyday with it, so I thought I would bore you guys instead share with people that had the same interests as me. I didn’t want to be judged or having to explain why I needed 4 lipsticks of the same colour……..he would never understand.

Every day there is something new to blog about, I take inspiration mainly from magazines and my weekly trips to Superdrug.

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blog name is just a play on the fact that I live in London but I’m not actually from here originally. The name was actually my boyfriend’s idea, so I can’t take any credit for that. I thought it was a pretty awesome name and quite quirky.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! On a daily basis and it’s beyond frustrating. Some days I can blog for hours, but other days my brain just doesn’t want to play. On these occasions I tend to switch off for a bit and just read. Reading relaxes me, I find it so therapeutic. Majority of the time this is all I need in order to break down the Blogger’s Block.

 .

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post to date is definitely the one about my visit to the Dermalogica HQ.

http://notquitelondon.com/2015/02/25/my-trip-to-dermalogica-hq/

It was such a fun day and I learned so much……………I hardly slept the night before as I was so excited.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I’m a jeans girl. I have lots of pairs but somehow I always end up using the same pair over and over again (in between washes, obviously).

I am obsessed with jumpers and knee high boots……………………I have way too many and every winter I end up buying even more.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Concealer

Nude lipstick

Perfume

I carry these 3 items with me every day and have spares in different bags. *maybe the boyfriend was right about the addiction*

 .

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I actually find writing my blog helps me to unwind. I normally tend to write a few posts as soon as I get in from work. 16hour of stress slowly melts away…….

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Saturday nights are all about staying in with a face mask, surrounded by candles, and stuffing my face with salted caramel popcorn in front of a movie.

10 years ago my answer would’ve been very different………

 .

What do you do to relax?

I find it hard to relax as my brain never seems to shut off. However I find reading in my pj’s very relaxing. Failing that, a nice hot bath does the trick too.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

My worst habit is definitely being a worrier. I am constantly stressed because I worry about everything. My mum is exactly the same, so I have her to thank for that unfortunately.

 .

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Our family picnics up in the mountains. We used to go every Sunday and it was the best thing in the world. There were no mobiles, no technology at all. Just lots of fresh air and blue skies.

We used to bring board games, blankets and lots of food. We only went home when the sun went down…………pure heaven and the best times of my life.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I loved English. Essay writing and reading books for homework was my idea of heaven.

Reading is still something I do on a regular basis.

 .

What’s your dream job?

I don’t have a dream job exactly. I want to branch out into the beauty industry, and do a job that puts a smile on my face every single morning.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Having my own beauty salon would be a dream. However I would love to buy a house with my partner so I’m hoping that in 5 years’ time we’l be homeowners…….and a salon owner too.

 .

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Visit Thailand

Swim with dolphins

Visit New York at Christmas

Get married

Go to a Ed Sheeran gig

 .

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Starting my blog is something that I am very proud off. I put it on hold for so long, that to finally have it out in the open and being received so well by everyone makes me feel incredibely proud. It’s a huge achievement as its been a dream of mine for so long

 .

Who inspires you?

My mum. She was a single parent with 2 kids.

She worked her ass out to make sure we never went without, and she always did it with a beautiful smile on her face.

She inspires me every day………even more so when she is on one of her many cruise trips, while I’m working my ass out.

 .

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I love Dr Seuss quotes. SO weird yet so true.

Dr Seuss Quote

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it. I waited a whole year before I had the guts to click the publish button………….it was scary but so worth it.

Write down some ideas of what you want your blog to be about, colour scheme and overall image.

Stay true to yourself and write about what you love.

Its such a fun experience, so don’t forget to enjoy it.

Cute Christmas Decor For Your Crib…

Cute Christmas Decor

Having spent most of last Sunday covered in glitter from putting up the Christmas tree and all the festive trimmings that come with it, my little home now looks like the inside of Santa’s grotto. However the desk I work from upstairs seemed to be looking a bit too bleak for my liking, but without wanting to spend a small fortune dazzling it up with Christmas goodies I decided to set myself a small budget and spruce up my little workspace with a few festive treats that don’t burn too much of a hole in the pocket…

Fairy Light Fever:

Having first spotted these in the aisles of Primark, I was pretty shocked to discover they were a mere £1.50… what a bargain! Last year I bought a set from Ikea which were considerably more pricey, although the light is quite a harsh white tone so I’m just not as keen. These ones however omit a lovely warm glow that makes the perfect backdrop for photo’s or just to cheer up your work space.

Fairy Lights

Candles Gallore:

You all know by now how much I blooming adore my little scented candles and after finding these pretty gold & purple holders in Ikea I just had to bring them home with me! The gold ones were £2 each and the purple one (I’m pretty sure) was only £1. I also spotted a bag of 100 Glimma tea lights for £1.75, they last approx 4 hours constant burning and are undoubtedly the best for value out of all the ones I’ve tried yet!

 Ikea Candle Holders

Merry Material:

I’ve been hoarding felt squares in my material box for the last couple of years, so I thought it was high time I put them to good use. These fun festive fancies are so darn easy to make too; it’s simply a matter of cutting out your shapes and sewing or stitching them together, alternatively you could use material glue – just don’t forget to stuff em’ before you seal otherwise they’ll end up looking a tad skinny. I opted for making a cheery little robin & traditional Christmas pudding. Cute eh?

Handmade Christmas Decorations

The Empty Pickle Jar:

When I spotted this empty gherkin jar lurking on top of my kitchen counter I knew he had a greater destiny in life than simply ending up in the recycling heap. After digging out my glass paints, I decided to give it a colourful lease of life by up-cycling him as a unique little candle accessory. One can never have too many tea light holders right? 😉 You can buy glass paints from any good craft store. I use Pebeo Vitrea pots as the colours are so vivid & glossy. Alternatively E-bay is full of great starter sets from as little as £5 or you could opt for glass paint markers which are super easy to use!

Glass Painted Pickle Jar

Twinkling Twigs:

At this time of year my garden is awash with leaves, twigs and lots of other green fingered paraphernalia, so why not put some of it to good use? After gathering, clean & dry your chosen sticks (or twigs if you make a mini version – your empty gherkin jar could be ideal for this) then spray with either gold or silver paint and dust with glitter (optional, but looks super pretty)

Once dry you can display them in any vase or jar you like, as mine was see through I used some pretty pebbles to add some detail & keep the sticks supported … voila, your own glittering twig display!

Don’t forget you can also interweave some fairy lights through them to create some extra twinkle… they really help emphasise the sparkle in the glitter.

Twinkle Twigs

The Mini Tree:

Last but not least, what Christmas space would be complete without a teeny tiny tree? I spotted this one in a local discount shop for £1 and just couldn’t resist! They also had lots of multi coloured battery lights that work a treat in helping to make it that little bit more cheery. He’s rather adorable wouldn’t you say?

 Christmas Tree

So there you have it, my way of adding a sprinkle of festive cheer to any work or living space without costing a fortune… in fact I spent well under £15 for the whole lot. Not bad eh?

Christmas Decor

Have you added any mini decorations to help cheer up your crib? Or maybe you have a few merry little tips of your own to share? As always, I love reading your thoughts & feedback in the comments below! Til next time…

Cheerio Chums 🙂
