Ooft, what a busy little bee I’ve been this week….

Between creating some fun & sparkly nail enhancements, organising mini Halloween costumes, pumpkin carving with Ems and wedding outfit hunting. Isn’t it just THEE best feeling when you order something ever-so-pretty online and it turns up fitting and looking rather nifty too?! That rarely happens to me when I order from the interwebs but everything came together perfectly, which certainly helps the stress levels when it comes to planning for as big a day as your step-daughters wedding *Yippee*

Needless to say, I’m spending today catching up on a list of things I simply haven’t gotten round too – emails is high on my priority as I’m almost terrified to open my inbox for fear of virtually drowning in them! Oh, and before I forget – there’s only one more day to enter the international giveaway (details at the bottom) – if you’re not in you can’t win so get your name down chummies! Otherwise, why not take a peek at some of the fun shenanigans that’s featured on Confetti & Curves this week…

Halloween Costumes Throughout The Years…

ems-halloween

It’s not often I share snippets of my family life here on Confetti & Curves… but this year it felt a little different as it’s Emma’s last year in primary school. No more getting up at the screech of dawn to dust off the face paints and fake blood. It’s certainly the end of an era, but as my little girl prepares for High School I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of her cute, quirky and slightly gory Halloween costumes right back from P1…

.

Primary 1

 p1

Emma’s first year at school and her first Halloween party with all her new best friends… lots of green face paint and scowls as she opted for dressing up as a tiny witch!

.

Primary 2

p2

Her second year of school and once again it was witching hour… only this time I reckon she’d perfected the pose a little better 😉 Practice makes perfect after all!!!

.

Primary 3

p3

For her 3rd year of primary school, Emma based her costume all around her mini hat that she loved wearing… a long black wig and sparkly ball gown was the perfect ensemble for a scary victorian vampire type lady – we’re still trying to put a name to it 😀 Check out her makeup – all done by a tiny but talented Emma!

.

Primary 4

p4

More wigs, layers of cream makeup and a super hot wig with purple highlights transformed this little lady into a rather spooky (if not slightly cute) vampiress!

.

Primary 5

p5

Lots of hair back-combing, oozing fake blood and dark sultry eyes edged with veins was the ingredients required for Dracula’s Daughter. This scary look won her first prize at fancy dress! *woo hoo*

.

Primary 7 – Emma’s last year!

p7-2

Gosh my little girl looks so grown up… all dressed in her victorian maids costume she was eager to have her face painted just like a Victorian dolly – finished off with the little crack in her head to give the illusion of broken porcelain! I wonder if she’ll be up for doing some extra chores around the house seeing as she looks so good in character?! *hehe*

pink heart

One very proud mama – it’s been such an exciting and fun journey creating her primary school costumes over the years and watching her flourish into a confident little lady! Not gonna lie, I’m a little saddened it’s her last Halloween at primary school with all the great memories and friends she’s made but I’m pretty sure it won’t stop her partying just as hard next year at high school!

Wishing you all a fabulous Halloween weekend whatever you’re up to, don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below 🙂

The Makeup Menu: Inside The No 7 Gift Box…

no-7-gift-box

Oooh erm, hello Tuesday…. it’s been a while since I slipped from my normal routine, however with what feels like half the house turned upside down from re-decorating at the moment, it’s no surprise that I’m thrown into domestic chaos – and so is the blogging routine until the paint brushes are fully packed away again *sigh*.

HOWEVER, enough waffle as I grab my cuppa and tell you guys all about the fabulous little No 7 gift box I received in-store as part of a promotion when treating myself to a few beauty goodies. It’s been sitting patiently on my beauty table for a number of weeks now, eagerly waiting to be opened. Time to take a peek inside…

dsc03570

.

AIRBRUSH AWAY PRIMER

dsc03576

“No7 Airbrush Away Primer for days when you want your skin to look flawless and your makeup to apply perfectly.

Pores and fine lines appear to disappear and wrinkles are put into soft focus leaving your skin perfectly smooth and even all day.

Contains hyaluronic acid moisture locking spheres to help soften the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin.”

Personally, I’m a huuuge fan of the No 7 primers and this is no exception. With its silky texture that doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily, Airbrush Away helps to smooth out imperfections allowing your foundation to appear slightly more airbrushed and flawless. It glides on like a dream and makes a considerable difference to keeping your makeup looking fresher for longer. Say goodbye to parting with unnecessary wads of cash for a decent primer, as for £16.50 this is definitely an affordable investment – and a little goes a loooong way ladies! It’s definitely worth the spend!

.

STAY PERFECT EYESHADOW in MATTE MOCHA

dsc03577

“No7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow delivers high impact colour. Blends effortlessly and lasts for hours.

For even longer lasting results, use over No7 Stay perfect Eye Base and apply with the No7 eyeshadow brush.”

As many of you already know, I’m a bit of a magpie when it comes to eyeshadow – the more shimmer the better. If truth be told… if you take a peek into any of my palettes you’ll notice that the matte selections are barely touched, so needless to say I was a little sceptical when it came to imagining me falling head over heels for this particular formula. Okay, so it hasn’t got the glam of my beloved shimmer however this is a gorgeous shadow that truly deserves the praise. It may not be over dazzling in appearance but this beautiful warm grey is a gorgeous colour that works incredibly well with so many other tones (I’ve found it especially fabulous with plum tones!!) Just as I’d expected from No 7, it outlasted my expectations. I applied this at 10am and by 6:30pm it was still looking fresh and well. At £7 it’s not the most pocket-friendly of drug store options however its endurance makes the spend completely justified. Available in 22 individual shades or you can buy the trio’s – one thing I will say is that this particular shade (mocha) is a fantastic staple for anyone!

.

DRAMATIC LIFT MASCARA

dsc03579

“Inspired by haircare, No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara contains flexible polymers and Keratin to help boost lash from root to tip.

The curved brush helps to capture all lashes and push them upwards, No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara is proven to lift lashes by 70%.

Wand Style- A curved styling brush that fits perfectly in to the roots of the lashes to help lift each individual lash to create the ultimate wide awake look.

Finished Look- Lashes are lifted by 70% and are boosted from root to tip.”

Okay, this is where I tend to grumble a little. No doubt about it, at £13.50 it’s not the most expensive of mascara’s by a long shot however why-oh-why do I never see a dramatic difference in my lashes compared to some of the cheaper drugstore brands? In fact, one of my biggest disappointments in mascara has got to be from MAC – which certainly wasn’t priced for what it was worth. Yes, the No 7 Dramatic Lift is a nice mascara but unfortunately I didn’t see anything extraordinary about my lashes after application. One thing I did notice is that the mascara didn’t tend to flake like many of the cheaper alternatives too. On the whole, not enough drama for me however so I’ll still be sticking to my classic Max Factor False Lash Effect. Sorry No 7 *sob*

.

SHEER TEMPTATION LIPSTICK

dsc03581

“Colour glides easily over the lips, creating a shiny lipgloss effect without any stickiness.. Now we’ve added some gorgeous new bang-on-trend colours to the range, perfect for a subtle daytime look or more dramatic evening lips.

Enriched with natural waxes and Theobroma oil (which you’ll find in chocolate!) to care for your lips, and Maxilip to help hydrate the lips.”

Tucked inside the little box of goodies was a lipstick voucher for a Sheer Temptation Lipstick. I opted for the shade Caramel Kiss… which seems to be a bright pink on the website – yet nothing of the sort in reality! So as you can imagine by the name of the formula this is certainly not a heavy matte concoction, but instead, a beautiful lightweight lippy that feels incredibly nourishing and kind to your lips. There was no bizarre taste, no nasty stickiness – just a smooth & silky coating of lip colour that felt intensely hydrating to wear. Of course being a sheer lippy it doesn’t have overly lengthy staying power, though I managed to get about 2.5 hours out of it – which in my humble opinion isn’t anything to grumble about for something that feels so nourishing to wear. Okay, so you may have to reapply, but honestly gals, once you feel how soft this is on your lips you won’t have any hesitation to pampering your pout a second time round!

.

Final Thoughts…

dsc03571

No 7  continuously seem to impress me the more I dip into their product range. I started a number of months ago with their Beautifully Matte foundation and since then I’ve been hooked. Considering this was a freebie gift set that has a great range of goodies to suit everyone, I’d certainly recommend any makeup maven yet to try No 7 to pop into your local Boots store and give them a go. The staff have always been so incredibly helpful, so if you’re not sure what you’re looking for don’t worry as they’ll certainly keep you right without seeming pushy!

no7-collage-review

I love the final look and this is definitely a great range of staples I’ll enjoy using as part of my daily routine. Thanks No 7 – you’ve converted me once again to even more of your fantastic range!

Wow, what a week it’s been here at Confetti & Curves HQ! Firstly thank you all sooooooo so much for your kind congratulations and lovely messages in regards to my 2nd blogiversary. It’s been a fantastic journey so far and I’m hoping there’ll be many more blog birthdays down the road to celebrate. Also, a huge thanks to all who have participated and shared the exciting international giveaway I’m currently running – Win a Kat Von D Eyeshadow palette of your choice. If you haven’t already entered, never fear there’s plenty of time to get your name down as the competition closes at midnight (GMT) on 31 October! *yippee*

In other news, I’ve spent much of the weekend deliberating over various colours of paint to revamp the kitchen with. Here in N.Ireland, the kitchen is always the heart of the home, as it’s the one room we seem to spend most of our time in…. chatting, drinking tea, eating dins, discussing how our day went etc. So I’m eager to make it as cosy & fresh looking as possible. As much as I love neutral walls I’ve opted for a soft pistachio green; well, actually the colour is called French Vine but you get the idea gals 😉 The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the chaos that’ll be caused in my kitchen over the coming week – but hey, as long as the tea bags and kettle are accessible I’ll stifle my grumbles.

Talking of kettles, why don’t you flick the switch on yours, put your feet up for five mins and check out some of the shenanigans that’s been happening here on Confetti & Curves this week…

Howdy Chums…

Yippee, it’s the first Sunday of October – and you know what that means… autumn is officially here, AS is the countdown to ‘Trick or Treating’ too 😀 *dramatic cackle* When I was a little girl, Halloween was probably my favourite time of year. There was something so exciting about dressing up in ghoulish costumes and scaring yourself witless with local ghost stories etc. Now I tend to look forward to the fireworks, pumpkin carving and curling up with a DVD; namely Hocus Pocus, which never fails to amuse me – even into my 30’s! Are you a fan of Halloween, or like my hubby do you consider it just another day of the year? *eye roll*

As for today, well I’ve a few things on the agenda – firstly a huge mug of tea followed by a good read of my favourite glossy mag ‘Glamour’. It seems like forever since I’ve sat down and spent some time flicking through the pages, cooing over all the makeup goodies and reading the fun articles. I’m also hoping to get a little filming done as unfortunately my aches and pains put a ginormous scupper on my schedule this week – so keeping fingers crossed I gather up the energy for a beauty chatter today! What’s your plans?

As always if you’re starting the day off with a dose of blog reading then why not take a peek at some of the shenanigans that’s been happening here on Confetti & Curves the past few days…

Bourjois ‘Golden Rose’ Little Round Blush Pot…

bourjois-little-blush-pots-review

Come in, come in…

Are you well? It feels like an age or two since I last sat down and conjured up something remotely beauty related, and if truth be told I do believe I’m having withdrawal symptoms – or at the very least, showing minor signs of madness at having hardly opened the laptop this week! But then again I’m always bleating on to other bloggers about not persecuting themselves with guilt. So with that in mind, I shall merely apologise for my absence in replying to your abundance of lovely comments and get right to work on reviewing this little pot of prettiness from Bourjois...

.

Okay, so after a friend showcased this little purchase for the first time a number of weeks ago , I knew I had to check it out for myself – particularly as the subtle rose glow on her cheeks looked super pretty. Needless to say, she’s a fair-skinned blonde so these beautiful pink tones give her complexion a radiant glow. However, quite often with my dark hair, many of the pink tones can often look a little harsh and doll-like on me.

.

What Bourjois Say…

dsc03395

“Our timeless blusher has been around for almost 150 years and have made Bourjois famous worldwide thanks to its amazing texture and packaging.

The baked texture transforms when applied to the skin into an ultra-fine pressed powder, which is easy to apply and blends impeccably. One stroke of the brush reveals the irresistible aroma of the rose scented powder.

Its built-in mirror and brush is perfect for touch-ups on the go!

The Little round pot blush exists in 12 shades to match all skin tones”

.

The Colour Choice…

picblp

Oddly enough from browsing the colour choice online there seems to be better colour range in their blushes than in some of the foundation choices, so you’ll certainly not be stuck for choice. My local Boots only carry a small range however if you visit the website the choice becomes so much more vibrant and vast. I settled for Rose D’Or (Golden Rose) simply because it was the colour my friend had choosen and I adored it on her skin so much!

.

Let’s Talk Packaging…

dsc03400

Cute, chic and perfect for popping into the handbag – that’s exactly how I’d sum up this compact little pot. Though don’t be fooled by its petite appearance as you get a healthy little mound of blush along with a cute blush brush. Okay, so I’m not usually a fan of the enclosed applicators or brushes, but it could be a handy dandy little tool on a night out with the girls as well as the compact mirror. It’s small but everything you need all in one!

.

What About The Formula…

dsc03397

As far as blushes go, it’s lovely. In fact I’ve very little grumbles about it at all. Okay it’s cheap and cheerful drugstore stash however the texture is really velvetty and although it has the lightest hint of rose gold shimmer in it, it won’t leave you resembling a 1970’s disco ball *phew*

The staying power is reasonable, as it lasts anywhere between 6-8 hours on me and hasn’t transferred onto my hands when I’ve touched my face. Another little bonus is the scent – like most Bourjois products it has a beautiful light perfume aroma that I can only describe as smelling slightly vintage… in a non musty way of course 😉

dsc03430

As for pigmentation, a little will go a looong way. It’s very buildable and easy to apply. I use a Real Techniques micro fibre blush brush which always seems to put just the right amount of colour on my cheeks without going OTT.

.

Pro’s

At £7.99 (from Boots) it’s affordable yet good quality for a drug store range.

Compact & great for popping into the handbag.

Fantastic colour range online.

Comes with a cute little brush and mirror… all you need for beauty on the go.

Very pretty packaging with a little magnetic closure.

Beautiful velvety texture.

Buildable and easy to blend.

.

Con’s

Perfume scent may agitate overly sensitive skin.

.

Overall Thoughts…

dsc03446

Lightweight, velvety and not too harsh on the purse strings. A great buildable blush with plenty of colour choice that gives a beautiful natural glow to even the fairest of skin. I love it!

Howdy beauty chums…

Oh it’s been a jolly few days here at Confetti & Curves HQ as little one is on the brink of turning 11 years old!!!!!!! May not seem as shocking to you lovely lot, but being her mama I am AHHHMAAZED at just how quickly the years have flown in… it certainly doesn’t feel like a decade ago that I was changing nappies and filling my washing machine with drool soaked bibs! Needless to say, Emma had a fabulous time at home with the clan for a ‘make your own pizza’ party followed by a girly slumber party with her bestie… much giggling and whispering to late makes for a pair of very tired girls this morning munching their way through cereal.

What’s your plan for today? Are you having a quiet one or are you looking forward to something special? After a week of battling with horrific Sciatica pains, I’m taking it easy – terrified to move as in case something gives up and I end up howling in agony once again! So my apologies for being a little late in replying but I’m afraid no position was comfy enough for me to handle an hour in front of the laptop – thank heavens for scheduled posts *phew*

Autumn Inspired Makeup: Purple Smoky Eyes…

There’s few words that can truly portray just how excited I get for the arrival of fall… it’s undoubtedly my favourite time of the year! The gorgeous rich colours of the landscape, crunchy brown leaves tumbling to the ground, warm cosy scarves, boots and of course – makeup up to match *happy sigh*

In this week’s video I showcase (one of) my favourite looks for fall… a purple smokey eye and dramatic rich berry lip. Those fabulous colours never fail to get me in the mood for a spiced pumpkin latte and gingerbread cookie – not to mention dusting off my fairy lights and seasonal candles.

So if beautiful berry tones coupled with moody mauves is your kinda thing too then sit back & hit the play button. My entire makeup look is a cocktail combination of super affordable drugstore finds, so it’s just as pretty on your pocket as it is on your face 😀

No7 ‘Lovely Lips’ Lip Balm in Parisian Pink…

no-7-lovely-lips-lip-balm-review-parisian-pink

My handbag,  my bedside cabinet, the bathroom shelves, my beauty drawers and the car glove box all have one thing in common = lip balms. Apart from eye shadows, lip balms are undoubtedly my next biggest hoard of beauty stash. They are EVERYWHERE. In fact, if you weren’t from this planet you’d swear they were breeding. However, the reality of the situation is… every time I walk into a drugstore (or any store for that matter) if there’s a display of lip balms you can be sure I’ll be scanning the offerings in search for any newbies that may have slipped my radar.

As I’ve said (many times before) I live right beside the sea. As picturesque as it sounds, the sweeping Irish sea air just loves playing havoc with my beauty regime. A few moments outside on a fresh fall day = withered lips, and hair that resembles a large stack of wood shavings… thank heavens for Frizz Ease *sigh*

However, back to lips – a few weeks ago I treated myself to my annual ‘Fall Haul‘, which if you happened to miss you can check out by *Clicking Here* Needless to say, on browsing the shelves of No7 with a ton of advantage card points at my mercy I was beyond ecstatic to discover a gorgeous new lip balm range called ‘Lovely Lips‘. As you can imagine I simply HAD to have it – there really was no mental negotiation gals!

I’ve now been trying ‘Lovely Lips‘ for a few weeks, particularly just as our weather has been on the turn… and I’m more than ready to share my thoughts. So if hoarding up on lip balms is your thing too then get yourself comfy and keep reading…

.

What No 7 Say…

no-7-lip-balm

“Nourish and condition lips with our moisturising beauty balms. Enriched with mineral oil and Beeswax, lips are left feeling comfortably soft and smooth, even at the end of the day. Provides sheer, buildable colour in 4 wearable shades for a natural look. Contains Vitamin E for added condition and care.”

The Colour Choice…

Poppy petal  Poppy Petal
   Parisian pink  Parisian Pink
        Deep raspberry  Deep Raspberry
    Coral blossom  Coral blossom
Okay, so there’s not the same massive choice compared to their exhaustive lipstick range, but this is a balm, and you probably wouldn’t expect there to be. However, I do think that it would be beneficial adding a non-tinted or clear option to their colour choice – simply because some may prefer to have the nourishment of a balm but without the tint. Otherwise, the colours (featured above) are indeed very beautiful. Personally, I’ll be trotting back to Boots on my next spend to top up on Deep Raspberry – or possibly even Poppy Petal… ooh decisions, decisions *sigh*

Let’s Talk Packaging…

Forget your standard little plastic tube – this is so much more sophisticated, chic and pretty all rolled into one sturdy lippy tube. It resembles a lipstick and has a twist up base so no more dipping your pinkies into teeny little pots of gloop. You can apply your balm in style ladies 😉

What About The Formula…
no-7-lip-balm-parisian-pink-a
There’s little else I can say other than beeeeeautiful. Really it is. My lips feel nourished, soft and pampered. The balm is smooth, silky and glides on effortlessly – unlike some of the cheaper balms that have a glue-stick feel. However, at £9.99 you’d certainly expect it to be a little more ‘luxurious’ than your average ‘couple of quid’ spend. The bees wax and vitamin E make your lips feel completely hydrated from the initial application and thankfully it’s not sticky or uncomfortable to wear. Bear in mind it’s not going to last as long as your favourite stay-put lippy but expect a good couple of hours wear before needing to reapply. The slimline shape of the product is great for slightly smaller lips too as it’s in no way big or bulky to glide over your lips. As far as balms go it’s definitely a winner for formula!

Final Thoughts…

3 words = I LOVE IT.
Yep, I know I’m a No7 fan through & through but this is yet another one of their products that has completely impressed me. The Parisian Pink has such a beautiful ‘my lips but better’ finish that stays on for a good couple of hours before any need to reapply. Needless to say, I’ll certainly be investing in a few more shades when I’m due my next No7 spree!
