Happy Tuesday Blog Buddies,
So today I have another gorgeous gal in the Behind The Blog hot seat as the talented Fiona from Fiona’s Wonderland has kindly allowed me to bombard her with questions. Considering she’s in the midst of studying Journalism at uni I’m pretty sure she’s more accustomed to asking the burning questions than answering them… right Fiona? 😉
If you haven’t already checked out her sassy little corner of the internet then I suggest you get yourself over pronto… however not before you’ve read her fun filled interview of course! She’s an avid beauty blogger who’s incredibly witty and always interactive with her followers, so if you love a bit of chatter you’ll feel very welcomed over at Fiona’s Wonderland!
Talking of chatter, enough of my ramblings as it’s time to pour yourself a cuppa, settle down and get acquainted with the the girl Behind The Blog…
In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:
Beauty, fashion and much nonsense
What inspired you to start blogging?
I study Journalism at University and thought starting a blog would be a good way to get some experience and give myself a break from all the “hard news” stories I’m (not) finding for assignments. Also, a couple of my friends have blogs themselves and like the little sheep I am thought it sounded like fun and jumped on the bandwagon myself!
Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?
Sadly, I really am less creative than a colour blind llama, and I wish I could say there was a brilliant meaning behind it, but I just happened to be watching Alice in Wonderland at the time. With all the nonsense and madness in the film, I just thought that I wanted my blog to be somewhere I could just post whatever was going on in my head, which usually is total nonsense. So I guess it just fit at the time.
Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?
I haven’t been blogging for too long so I don’t really experience blogger’s block. I suppose if I don’t have something to write about, I just won’t. I hate reading blogs where it looks like a post has just been churned out for the mere purpose of having something published. The only downside to blogging at the moment is trying not to repeat thoughts about something over several posts – sadly, my bank account doesn’t allow anything else!
What’s your favourite post to date?
I really enjoyed writing my Harry Potter post since anyone that knows me will know that my obsession is verging on unhealthy, and not to mention my English student analysis skills are on top form – https://fionaswonderland.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/the-harry-potter-tag/
Describe your everyday clothes style:
I tend to roll out of bed 10 minutes before a lecture, so very simple and casual – jeans or leggings and the first top I find in my drawer, ironed or not…
What are your current top 3 beauty items?
My Smashbox BB cream is my new favourite thing. I don’t like wearing a heavy foundation on a daytime but it’s buildable enough to warrant me only having one product for daywear and nights out.
I’m going through a bit of a dark lipstick phase for a night out and love my Rimmel lipstick in shade 30. I think the colour suits my skin tone more than any other lipstick I own and is probably the first thing I’d repurchase if I lost all my makeup.
Ok, so I might be cheating with this last one, but my Miss Dior perfume is my go-to scent at the moment and I probably use too much in a day when I consider how much it actually costs. Oops.
How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?
I’m basically describing my current situation – Comfy pjs, hair up, makeup free, Yankee Black Cherry candle burning, fairy lights on, steaming cup of tea (or 2) at the ready, a good book (currently Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare), the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack on repeat and a bar of Dairy Milk Oreo Chocolate close by.
Describe your ideal Saturday night:
As much as I enjoy a good night out in Newcastle, I just can’t hack Saturdays with all the locals. So with a Domino’s on it’s way, a film or two, a glass of wine on my bedside table and maybe even a sneaky tub of ice cream waiting in the freezer, I’d be sorted!
What do you do to relax?
Read, blog, read blogs… drink an insane amount of tea, indulge in one too many squares of chocolate and if I’m really feeling worked up, I might even go to the gym.
Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?
I procrastinate. A lot.
In life I have a tendency to panic at the prospect of work, so I’m one of those people that leaves every assignment till a day or two before the deadline. I tidy to procrastinate working and work to procrastinate tidying. But then again, I can just stare at the ceiling to procrastinate procrastination!
Whew, do you follow? If so, become a rocket scientist!
What’s your most cherished childhood memory?
I grew up on a street with alot of kids my own age, so summer holidays were the best. We’d “call” for each other at 8am and stay outside until it got dark. Making clubhouses in my garden shed, running for the ice cream van and selling cakes to the elderly people that lived on the street.
What was your favourite school subject?
I hated school with every fibre of my being, but our Art classes in secondary school were the one time of the week where the teacher didn’t care what we did or how we behaved and it really was like a 2 hour break from long division and Spanish reading comprehensions.
What’s your dream job?
Eeek. I wish I could answer this, but my brain can’t keep up with how fast my life is going.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully having returned from travelling, thinking about marriage and kids, (if I manage to find someone decent…where are they?) with some sort of career nailed down and a house of my own.
What top 5 things are on your bucket list?
Visit New York at Christmastime
Travel to at least 1 country in each continent
Have a hot air balloon ride
Go to a film premiere and watch the red carpet
See the Northern Lights
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Getting into uni was always something I thought was a natural progression from school, but I was so surprised at how difficult it actually is, and I’m really proud of myself for managing to do it. It’s given me a few more years to figure out what I really want to do with my life and I’m enjoying it more than I ever thought I would. I really don’t know what I’d be doing if I wasn’t here.
Who inspires you?
It might sound cliché, but my parents moved back to England with next to no money, no house of their own, a 4 year old me in tow and they managed to build a life from nothing. They’ve taught me the importance of working hard and how rewarding it can be, even through some low points.
Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?
“Everything happens for a reason”
I’m not one to believe in our lives all being predestined , but I do believe in this, just from the things we do ourselves. Coincidence is just too… coincidental (sorry)
What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?
You’ve got nothing to lose by doing it, so if it interests you, jump at the chance. It ‘s a great way to make friend with the same interests as you and it may even become a stepping stone to a career path.
