Autumn Inspired Makeup: Purple Smoky Eyes…

There’s few words that can truly portray just how excited I get for the arrival of fall… it’s undoubtedly my favourite time of the year! The gorgeous rich colours of the landscape, crunchy brown leaves tumbling to the ground, warm cosy scarves, boots and of course – makeup up to match *happy sigh*

In this week’s video I showcase (one of) my favourite looks for fall… a purple smokey eye and dramatic rich berry lip. Those fabulous colours never fail to get me in the mood for a spiced pumpkin latte and gingerbread cookie – not to mention dusting off my fairy lights and seasonal candles.

So if beautiful berry tones coupled with moody mauves is your kinda thing too then sit back & hit the play button. My entire makeup look is a cocktail combination of super affordable drugstore finds, so it’s just as pretty on your pocket as it is on your face ūüėÄ

Glamming it up with Glitzy Grey’s…

Rimmel Salon Pro Moon and Collection Bedazzled Nail Polish Razzle Dazzle

Grey has to be one of my favourite staple shades!¬†It’s¬†the complimentary tone¬†that blends¬†in perfectly with just about any other colour – from pastel pink to deep rich damson. Of course when it dawned on me that my nail polish collection was missing this essential shade I had to put right to my wrongs and treat my collection to a bottle of ‚ÄėMoon‚Äô by Rimmel‚Äôs Salon Pro range.

Rimmel Salon Pro Moon

Considering that I‚Äôm a huge fan of their renowned Urban Purple *swoon* I really wasn‚Äôt expecting to be disappointed by the formula or consistency, however with Moon there seemed to be a very slightly runnier texture. Thankfully, the end result was a beautiful glossy grey, though it did take¬†a few coats to get there ‚Äď be warned gals, if you don‚Äôt have a UV lamp you could be in for a long wait as this is most definitely not the quickest drying formula. However after wafting my hands around for ten minutes between layers, and catching up with a few of my fav You-Tubers (yes Kaily Baute your channel was well and truly stalked for half an hour!) my nails were finally dry enough to admire¬†the final result: Voila…

Rimmel Salon Pro Kate Moon

At £4.49 it’s certainly a pocket friendly price tag for a good quality drugstore polish. If you’re on the hunt for a great staple grey with undertones of blue then I’d definitely recommend checking this shade out. It’s a definite thumbs up from me!

Being a bit of a magpie, it¬†would’ve been sacrilege to¬†stop at just a simple grey… c‚Äômon ladies you all know how much I adore a bit of bling ūüėȬ†So seeing as our own moon had been a bit of a heavenly celebrity this past week I couldn‚Äôt resist the temptation to add a cosmic sprinkle of glitter with yet another fabulous polish by the Collection Bedazzled range in the shade Razzle Dazzle.

Collection Bedazzled Razzle Dazzle

Available from Boots for a mere £2.99, this sparkle encrusted top coat is a guaranteed eye catcher. Okay, it’s usually more of a Christmas polish for me but I couldn’t resist the temptation to glam up my new grey nails.

DSC01198

I must admit, like most glitter polishes it’s renowned as a bit of a pain in the derri√®re¬†to remove, however I often find that very gently filing the top layer first before soaking my nails in¬†polish remover helps dramatically! As long as you‚Äôre prepared to put the effort¬†in you‚Äôll most definitely reap the bedazzling benefits of this sassy¬†polish. It’s affordable, long lasting, glitzy and adds that little bit of glam to liven up any nail colour.

Fizzy Berry Nails…

Blackberry Coloured Nails

I seem to be going through a bit of a polish infatuation at the moment. Updating my collection with fabulous fusions of pretty seasonal shades and glittering top coats is what’s really exciting me for fall. I literally go weak at the knees for anything sparkly and this week I have yet another little polish partnership that I‚Äôve fallen madly in love with. Check it out gals, are you swooning as much as I am over it?
.
berry1

Collection blackberry
I should begin by mentioning that like any deep coloured polish I started by applying a clear base coat to help prevent staining. Once dried it was time to break out the fun stuff! This week I’ve opted for shade no. 14 Blackberry ¬†from Collection 7 Day Wear Range.

Priced at only ¬£1.99 this is such pocket friendly polish & boasting a 7 day wear it should last a little longer than a standard varnish. After trying it out by itself (2 coats with no glitter top coat) I only managed to get 4 full days before I noticed any chipping… maybe I’m just a ferocious typer who causes havoc to her dressed up digits?!However thankfully after applying my sparkly top coats it lasted much longer… but we’ll get to that in a minute!

The formula of the Collection polish is actually quite a nice consistency, it’s not too runny however with being such a deep colour it needs at least two coats to banish any streaks or patches. Naturally, the more costs applied the darker the result. Fear not though ladies, for in natural daylight (and after a good day‚Äôs wear) the colour settles quite a bit and becomes a beautiful rich berry tone that is super pretty and a distinctively rich-plum shade.

sparkle-touch-top-coat-nail-polish-shot
When I spotted this glittery little glass ball of goodness in shade 889 Amethyst Dust from Miss Sporty, ¬†I knew it would be the perfect complimentary top coat to adding some sassiness to my Collection Blackberry colour. The consistency of this polish is actually quite runny however the plus side being that it dries relatively quickly. You will need to build up quite a few layers to really pack a punch with this glitter. I opted for 3 layers which might seems a lot but the results are incredible & it lasts a good 7-10 days providing you maintain it well ‚Äď for ¬£1.99 it‚Äôs well worth the pocket money. I find using a really good nail & hand cream daily helps to prolong the lifespan and keep my nails looking glossy and bright!

The Make-Up Menu: Perfectly Plum

Plum Makeup

Hey Beauty Buddies…

I seem to be lusting after plum colours right now, which is no shock whatsoever considering that autumn is my favourite time of the year. After almost an hour perusing the shelves of my local Superdrug store I invested my hard earned pennies in a few new delicious little items that would suit my pale skin & fall wardrobe perfectly; and there‚Äôs nothing quite like a splash of sumptuous plums and playful purples this time of the year! Let’s check out the menu…

mumpl1

DSC01102

1) Nivea Rich Moisturisning Day Cream: I always apply a small amount of this cream before adding my foundation. I find it helps keep my skin feeling hydrated & my make-up last longer. The perfect primer in my opinion!

2) Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte Foundation in Warm Ivory: Words cannot describe just how much I’m currently loving this foundation. Although it’s a full coverage matte formula it glides on with such ease, looks flawless, matches my skin perfectly and stay fresh looking throughout the entire day & night!

3) Collection Gorgeous¬†Glow Blush Block: This is such a creamy blush that just seems to contain the perfect amount of glow and dewy looking shimmer to brighten up the apples of my cheeks. Hands down my favourite budget buy of the year… yes it’s THAT good.

4) L’Oreal Lumi Magique in Shade no. 2 Medium: I’m still currently in the testing stages of the Lumi Magique, but so far it hasn’t blown my socks off with the results… however it is a nice creamy formula & I am a fan of the brush applicator as opposed to the usual doe-foot. It does brighten up under my eyes, however for a fraction of the price the MUA dupe done a virtually identical job for a fraction of the price.

5) Sleek Face Form Contour Palette in Fair: Yet another new addition to my collection! When I initially tried this out I wasn’t entirely sure about the colour pay-off… it almost seemed to immediately evaporate into my skin without a hint of colour. Now that I’ve used it a few times I’m building up a much better relationship with it… shall keep you update on my final thoughts soon!

.

DSC01105

1) Soap & Glory Archery Pencil: The well established dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. This pencil is a super quick way of taming the brows; it gives a softly groomed finish that’s incredibly natural looking.

2) Seventeen Eye Eye in Funfair: This looks suspiciously like a mini blush pot in the picture rather than an eye-shadow. Unfortunately the camera isn’t picking up the gorgeous rose gold multi-tonal sheen, but I find it the perfect transition shade for blending softly into the crease.

3) Seventeen Eyes Trio in Enchanted Smoke: A trio of autumnal shades for the perfect blend of plum, soft goldy pink and shimmering olive green. Gorgeous.

4) Maxfactor Wild Shadow Pots in Vicious Purple: I adore this little single pot of purple goodness, it really lifts the lid by adding a layer of shimmering deep lilac… perfectly compliments rich¬†plum tones.

5) MaxFactor False Lash Effect in Black: What a find… all thanks to the lovely Anne over at Doves & Roses for her recommendation – this gal¬†really knows a thing or two about quality alternatives to high-end spending! I have literally fallen head over heels for this powerful lash lengthener. The rich black formula adds lashings of volume from root to tip and really does leave your lashes looking every bit as dramatic as falsies. Well worth the investment!

6) Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light: I know, I know… it’s not exactly an eye product but I find this concealer exceptionally superb for tidying round my freshly sculpted brows for a clean shapely finish. Best applied with a small concealer brush & steady hand ūüėČ

7) Rimmel Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner: With its ultra fine brush this jet black liner requires super precise application so shaky hands beware! My absolute staple liner – nothing has came close to rivalling it’s staying power and sleek finish. A make-up must have for any winged liner lover.

1) Collection Work The Colour Lip Butter in Perfectly Plum: Just as the name suggests, this really is the perfect shade of plum for a pop of autumnal colour. Even the palest of skin can rock¬†this sassy shade¬†as it’s not too dark¬†to drain the complexion. It’s super moisturising and makes the ideal balmy top coat to keep your lips feeling totally hydrated.

2) MUA Power Pout Acrylic in Potency: For those of you who love a deep damson coloured lip the ultra rich colour of this liquid style lippy is fierce. Incredible staying power I put a very light layer and blotted it heavily with a tissue before apply my balmy top coat of Collection lip butter (see above details) Beware ladies, this colour applied straight from the tube isn’t for the faint hearted!

New Season, New Hair: L’Oreal Prodigy Review…

L'Oreal Paris Prodigy Review

Hey Beauty Buddies…

It’s Friday, fall is on the¬†way &¬†I’m ready for the weekend *excited air punch* ūüėÄ Yes, bit of a cheery chappy today chums as¬†I’ve spruced up my follicles and banished those pesky greys back to where they belong. With the turn of every new season I seem to break out a new hair style or colour… my own way of welcoming change I guess! Of course with autumn virtually on our door steps it was time for me to browse the shelves in search of a sassy new hair look that would (hopefully) compliment the rich vibrant tones this time of year brings.

After what seemed like an eternity¬†mulling through a sea of DIY hair colourant kits, I finally set my sights on L’Oreal Prodigy shade 5.30 Tan. A rich warm brown with a hint of auburn, just the ticket for new fall follicles don’t you agree?

Wanna know how I got on? Then grab your cuppa & let’s get started…

L'Oreal Prodigy Whats In The Box

1) Extraordinary Colour Cream

2) Developer Cream Emulsion

3) Conditioner

4) Two part mixing bottle

5) Instructions

6) Mixing stick & Gloves

.

Pros

The Box Contents: Contrary to the usually cheap gloves and flimsy instruction manuals included in home colour kits, the quality of the content was pretty impressive. I was rather taken by the handy little mixing stick and black stretchy gloves that somehow gave a much more professional feel to the preparation.

¬†The¬†Formula:¬†Most¬†dyes I’ve used in the past have been pretty runny & messy when squeezed from the bottle – this one however was so easy to apply and didn’t drip or splatter.¬†As for quantity there was more than enough in the bottle my thick mass of shoulder length hair. However if you do have longer locks then¬†I would suggest investing in two boxes¬†– just to be on the safe side. Better to have a little too much than too little right?

The smell: ¬†Now you girls all know how utterly sensitive I am to smells. Most hair dyes tend to leave my eyes streaming however this wasn’t the case with this one. No nasty chemical filled boudoir or half an hour of wheezing whatsoever – very impressed!

¬†The Conditioner: If any of you are familiar with a 90’s teens perfume called Tribe then you might very well be in for a treat as the smell reminded of it¬†so much… it is gorgeous! It’s quite fruity/florally – refreshingly different to many of the conditioners that are usually included in home hair dye kits. More importantly though; it left my hair feeling soft, bouncy and super healthy with¬†an amazing shine.

.

Cons

If you’re in a mad rush then¬†the half an hour developing time might leave you tapping your impatient foot.¬†Yep, there’s faster developing hair dyes available, however on reflection,¬†I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to be something many tackle whilst racing the clock! If you’re anything like me then you’ll actually enjoy taking your time with any beauty process – it’s all about enjoying a pamper. ¬†Catching up with your favourite YouTubers *Confetti & Curves – ahh hmm* ūüėČ ¬†& a nice hot cuppa will pass the time quicker than you realise!

Okay, it may not be the cheapest¬†option on the shelves but in my experience spending that little bit more on decent colourants goes¬†a loooong way in gaining¬†a much better result.¬†Like most home colours, it did turn out a little deeper than the picture suggested on the box, however the shade usually this lightens after a few washes so it’s not something I’d grumble over too much.

One thing I did find a bit off-putting was the sizing of the gloves. They are incredibly neat fitting with very little stretch Р might be a bit of an issue for those with slightly wider hands or long fingers!

.

TR

Before: Looking a tad washed out and in need of some oomf!

After colouring (and a little sprucing up)

L'Oreal Prodigy 5.30 Tan Review

Much¬†better… wouldn’t you agree chums?

As you can see it’s really lifted my¬†rather¬†dull looking¬†dark¬†brown hair by¬†added a little more warm & depth. There’s a slight red tone to the shade which is perfect for me considering that my natural hair colour is actually quite auburn – it brings out the vibrancy just a little bit more. Personally I think it’s the ideal shade for autumn: not too dark, but not too red for constantly maintaining an exhaustive upkeep of re-growth on the roots. Perfect!

.

Rec

Most definitely. If you’re looking for an easy to follow hair colourant that leaves your follicles looking & feeling fabulous then I’d urge you to give the L’Oreal Prodigy range a go. The colour is beautifully¬†rich &¬†left my hair feeling silky smooth & smelling divine! For the price tag it’s well worth the investment ladies.

Keeping Up With Karen

Gooooood Mornin’ Beauty Buddies…

Yes, it’s that glorious day of the week once again that we lazily pad down stairs at 10 am, groggily reach for the coffee cups &¬†plan to do absolutely nothing else all day long – well, at least that’s what I’m planning for today anyway! It’s amazing how the turn of a brand new month can almost flick a switch in the sensation of the seasons. This day last week I was happily perched out in my back garden enjoying (what would be) the last of the summer sunshine. One week later & I’m digging out woolly jumpers, cosy boots that have been buried away for months on end¬†&¬†treating¬†my winter coats to a good old wash in preparation for the chilly autumn days ahead. Summer has most certainly left the building.

However as always, for those of you curled up for a spot of reading this crisp September day I’ve compiled this weeks fun filled posts into one handy dandy little place for y’all to catch up on… I wonder can you spot a recurring¬†theme?! ūüėČ

So without further a do, grab your topped-up cup & snuggle down for a spot of Keeping Up With Karen…

Fall Inspired Rose Gold Nails With Maybelline Colour Show…

Rose Gold Nails

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been one for a sprinkle of sparkle but when it’s combined with my favourite pinky rose-gold tones it’s destined to be a winner. So when I spotted this rather sassy looking glitter polish from Maybelline Colour Show I just knew I HAD to have it… you know, one of those moments when your shopping list is all but forgotten whilst you ‚ÄėOoooh & Aaaah‚Äô over a¬†delicious unexpected new find? Yep, it was one of those. ¬†In fact, I’ve had quite a few of those moments in the past but a majority of the time the products I’ve ended up cooing over haven’t quite¬†lived up to the same excited¬†expectations once I’m back home testing. However¬†from the very first brush stroke of this shimmery chic polish I fell head over heels in love ‚̧

DSC01068

At a mere ¬£2.99 it’s¬†an absolute bargain & I personally haven’t stumbled across another glitter varnish quite as beautiful. At first glance the name¬†‘Pink Party Dress’ kind of took me back as it seemed much more coppery in the bottle,¬†however on application the warm pink tones subtly shine through to create a playful champagne¬†sparkle on the nail.

The formula isn’t too thick¬†or gloopy (like many of sparkle polishes can be) and it’s totally build-able from the first stroke. Considering that it boasts a super fast 60 second drying time you’ll not be left for wafting your hands in frustration whilst the minutes pass by.

DSC01065

The glitter itself is quite small but the coverage is certainly impressive… maybe it’s just me, but with a few of my other glitter polishes I tend to have to really try and smoother the brush with glittler to ensure the nail gets treated to punchy layer¬†of sparkle. With this polish, it’s bling from the moment you unscrew the lid.

Perfect as a sassy top coat, it’s¬†easily layered over your favourite nude colour or instead just jump right in to build it up to create an eye-catching all over sparkle. Whatever your preference it’s definitely one to add to your wish list as¬†the perfect addition to dress up your digits this autumn.
