Bourjois Smokey Stories Quad Palette…

bourjois-smokey-stories-over-rose-review

Howdy Beauty Buddies…

I think I may have a slight addiction to Bourjois. Looking back on my posts over the last few months (and at the stash of goodies I’m yet to review) Bourjois seems to crop up time & time again. Maybe it’s the chic packaging, the sexy French pronunciation 😉 or possibly that their products lure me in with a beautiful range of colour options. Either way, I’m having a Bourjois phase right now and I’m hoping the Smokey Stories Quad Palette in ‘Over Rose’ doesn’t disappoint. If you fancy taking a quick peek at my recent ‘Autumn Inspired BOOTS Beauty Haul’ then *Click Here*

Sitting comfy? Then let’s take a closer inspection…

.

What Bourjois Say…

bourjois-smokey-stories-3

“Prime, shadow, define and highlight the eyes with Bourjois Quad Smokey Stories eyeshadow. Each palette has 4 complimentary shades that blend effortlessly together to create the perfect smoky eye.

And what’s more, the lightest shade has an integrated base primer to prolong colour for 12hr hold.

Available in 8 smouldering shades.”

.

Let’s Talk Packaging…

bourjois-smokey-stories

It’s chic simple and pretty. Okay so it’s plastic and probably not going to win any innovation awards for product styling but all-in-all it looks rather pretty in my shadow collection – though it does feel like it could be easily damaged  so handle with caution gals. As usual, it comes with a teeny double-ended sponge tip applicator – which if truth be told usually ends up in the bin as I find them rather useless however they are rather handy when you’re topping up your peepers on a night out.

.

The Smokey Eye Masterclass…

Another cute little feature (which is great for those that aren’t too confident when it comes to shadow placement) is what Bourjois refer to as ‘The Smokey Eye Masterclass‘ – 4 simple steps to keeping you right when applying your shades correctly. You can even pop onto the Bourjois website and watch a tutorial if visual tips are more your thing…

1. PRIME with the lightest shade: apply over entire eyelid to prolong colour

2. SHADOW with the medium shade: blend into the outer corner of the eye

3. DEFINE with the darkest shade: trace along the upper lash line and sweep into the socket

4. HIGHLIGHT with the glitter: lightly dab onto the inner corner of the eye and under the brow bone to illuminate the eye

.

What About The Formula…

bourjois-smokey-stories-2

I must admit all shades are incredibly creamy and silky to touch – even the primer (the lightest shade) is really lovely and feels no different to the colours. According to Bourjois, it stays put for 12 hours and I have to say it’s really impressed me as it was on for a solid 10 hours with me and only faded slightly under the eyes where I applied the darker shade to ‘smoke it out’ a little. Fall-out is surprisingly minimal with the coloured shades, however, the sparkly highlighter/illuminator in the centre of the palette is quite messy so if you’re not a huge fan of shimmer approach with caution as a little goes a long way. The finish of the shadows sits somewhere between a matte and a shimmer so it really is a very happy medium!

.

Pro’s…

Available in 8 quad shades so a decent range of colour choice

Beautiful buttery feel to the formula

£7.99 – a great price for quality shadows that last a good length of time

Available in a range of drug stores

Small and compact to pop in your handbag

Applicator is of a decent quality (compared to some)

Mini online tutorial to help keep you on top of your application

.

Cons…

Packaging is a little flimsy and cheap

The pans of the shadows would benefit from a lip/frame to stop colours blending into each other inside the palette

Highlighter shade has masses of fall out – if only it was as creamy as the shades!

.

Final Thoughts…

bourjois-smokey-stories-review

bourjois-smokey-stories-review-2

Overall I’m reeeeeeally impressed with this cute little compact. The colours are incredibly easy to blend, very creamy and surprisingly long lasting. For £7.99 it’s definitely a winner in my books! *Click Here* to check it out via Boots online store.

Makeup Revolution: Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Palette

Bright, bold & beautiful is how I would describe the Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eyeshadow Palette at first glance. Boasting 32 gloriously vibrant colours to dress your lids in, there’s literally a shade selection for almost every occasion – and at £8, the price tag is most certainly pocket friendly.

Rummaging through my palette drawers I seem to be building quite a nifty little collection from Makeup Revolution. But it’s not just me that’s falling head over heels for their range of affordable cosmetics, makeup lovers all over the globe are raving about the outstanding pigmentation and long lasting wear of a majority of their lines. But does this colourful Mermaid really match the wow factor of her tempting price tag? Let’s take a closer peek…

MUR Mermaids Palette

So here they are, all 32 colours – ranging from soft neutrals, punchy peaches, vibrant pinks, deep blues, rich browns and beyond. There’s certainly no lack of thought gone into the gorgeous range of shades, and if you’re having a tricky time of selecting tones then you’ll notice that diagonally the colours are set in complimentary blocks of 4 to keep you on the right path to successfully matching colours, ensuring you get the perfect blend! Certainly a great start for beginners in lid fashion 😉

MUR Mermaids Palette a

As for the packaging, it’s simple & chic. Although I’d love to see the palettes personalised in outer case styling a little more, perhaps one of the reasons they’re so affordable is Makeup Revolution keeping everything low keyed and simple to justify the price point. However the bright metallic blue storage box is certainly an eye-catcher… but if truth be told, I’d much rather have a great internal product with minimal packaging than a disappointing product that looks like it’s been designed by the hands of Picasso.

MUR Mermaids Palette b

(image taken with the plastic name cover over shadows)

Inside the palette the shadow pods are simple round pans. Granted they’re not overly big, so fluffly brushes beware! However for those that adore plenty of reflection room the mirror is huge (the entire size of the outer case) which makes it a great travel companion as you’ve every shade you’d need along with one giant mirror to play about with all the colours. Jolly hols = sorted!

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette

As for pigmentation… well, I must admit a few of the lighter colours (particularly in the first diagonal row) will need a little more work to really pack a punch, however the brighter colours are beautifully vibrant and blend incredibly well onto the skin. When I’m trying shadows for the first time I usually just pop them on a naked lid (no primer, foundation or base layer underneath) so I can really test the staying power on the skin. I applied my shadows at 11am and low and behold, they were still sitting just as pretty come 8 pm later that evening. A pretty impressive time frame for no base whatsoever, which of course can only get better with a great primer to pull out the intensity of the colour and help settle the shadows to prevent fallout or fading… which, I like I said, hasn’t been the case here. No primer and very happy lids many hours later *Yippeee*

DSC02425

All in all the Mermaids Forver Palette is certainly a winner in my eyes! Sure some of the lighter colours require a little bit more work (though I find that’s even the case in some of my high end palettes which are x5 more expensive) however a slightly dampened shadow brush really helps to restore the colour pigmentation and keeps the shadows consistency from risk at crumbling too.

.

The Final Look…

Makeup Revolution Mermaids Forever Eye Shadow Palette Look DSC02420

What d’ya think gals? Today, I opted for a gorgeous mix of bright pinks – and keeping to the diagonal pink line, with just a touch of seashell in the inner corner, I thought the overall look was vivid and perfectly matched. Most definitely a palette I’ll be reaching for regularly and recommending to friends who love to hoard a selection of fabulous colours for special occasions or simple everyday use!

The Make-Up Menu: Peach Sherbet

The Make Up Menu Peach Sherbet

After last Fridays post, The Must-Have Eye-Shadow Trio, quite a few of you lovely ladies were rather intrigued about the pigmentation & quality of these affordable mini compacts. Not being one to turn down an opportunity to get dolled up (and as I’m rocking the warm peach sherbet tones right now) what better excuse to create a quick look for this weeks Make-Up Menu? Heck, you might even take some inspiration by re-creating this warm summery look over the weekend too. Why not!

Okay, so here’s the menu gals…

Face

DSC00947

Nivea Intense Moisturising Day Cream – I use a small amount of this intense moisturising cream before applying any cosmetics to my skin as it helps keeps my face hydrated and make-up lasting longer. Don’t forget to leave it absorb into the skin before layering on Foundation etc!

Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte – My current go-to foundation. This literally knocks the spots clean off all others I’ve tried over this last few months… yep, I’ve finally found ‘The One’ gals! *wipes away tears of joy* Affordable, flawless & long lasting. Perfection in a pump.

Soap & Glory Kickass Concealer – Not by any means a full coverage concealer, however what it does do is very lightly cover blemishes and adds a little dewiness to the complexion. Initially I wasn’t entirely sure if I’d repurchase it again but now I’m really beginning to like it a lot!

Rimmel Sun Shimmer Bronzer – My ultimate bronzer. Wanna find out more about it? Then *click here* to feast your eyes upon my recent review.

Soap & Glory Peach Party – There’s always that one item in your make-up collection that you use sparingly because it’s just so darn beautiful & you don’t want it to end… and that’s exactly how I feel about this blush. If you’re on the lookout for something to add a soft peachy glow to your cheeks then look no further, it’s beautiful.

.

Eyes

DSC00951

MUA Eye-shadow primer – Keeping it in the MUA family today ladies. I’ll admit I’ve read mixed reviews about this eye-shadow primer but I have to say it’s doing an outstanding job for me; great for an everyday pocket-savvy primer.

MUA Under-eye Concealer – A new addition to my collection (after hunting high & low for the L’Oreal Lumi wand without success) Once again MUA have *really* impressed me… this noticeably brightens up my under eye area & helps luminate my cheek bones for a bright & dewy look.

MUA Chocolate Box – What a gorgeous trio of warm Indian Summer type colours. Peaches, earth tones, golds, red, brows & purples all seem to emulate seamlessly from these three stunning shades once blended.

Max Factor Mascara – So far it’s impressive, I’m keeping my lashes firmly crossed that the formula doesn’t clump too early. The result to date has been long luscious lashes, the brush seems a little clumsier yet it really gets into those lash roots.

Soap & Glory Archery Pencil – Known as the dupe for Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz. I am SO impressed with this handy little roll up pencil. No sharpening required, just quick & easy brows ‘on fleek’ ladies 😉

Rimmel Glam Eyes Professional Liquid Liner –  My go to liquid liner for those hard to master cat flicks. The brush is incredibly precise & the formula is the perfect creamy consistency for jet black coverage.

.

Lips

DSC00954

Rimmel London 077 Asia – I’ve literally been in love with this shade from the first time it glided over my lips at the tender age of 13! Almost 20 years later & it’s still one of my all time favourite Rimmel lippies. Rich, creamy & long lasting – what’s not to love?

Tanya Burr, Picnic In The Park – Such a pretty pink that adds the perfect layer of blush-tinted gloss to any pout. Long lasting & not overly sticky, I’ll definitely be checking out some more of her range gloss range! Have you got a favourite?

.

Tools

DSC00956

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – A complete game changer when it comes to applying makeup. If you’re craving an airbrushed finish then look no further, this little egg shaped sponge is photoshop for your foundation. Yes, it really is!

Real Techiques Cheek Brush – One of my favourite blushes, especially for contouring the hollow of my cheek bones with a skimming of bronzer or adding a pop of blush to the apples. So versatile!

Barry M Shadow Brush – Such a handy little shadow companion for adding the darker shades on the outer crease to give some depth and definition.

Lamora Blender Brush – Blends everything together seamlessly. Check out my post on this set of bargain beauty brushes, such a great affordable find!

Superdrug Retractable Lip Brush –  Essential for smoothing out your lippy and creating a sharp lined effect edge.

Eyelash Curlers – Nothing fancy about this little pair… does a great job at curling the lashes prior to mascara application. Simples.

My Favourite Eye-look Tutorial with Urban Decay NAKED 3…

 DSC00472

Hey beauty buddies…

With the roaring success of last Mondays Makeup Menu post (thank y’all!) I thought I’d share a favourite look using one of my most cherished eye shadow palettes – the Urban Decay Naked 3. I am literally uhhhbsessed with the beautiful blush tones of this palette, simply because they work so darn well with my regularly insipid skin tone – in fact they work fab with virtually every complexion. If you already own one (congratulations you lucky little ducky!) or are tempted to treat yourself to a Naked 3 palette then you might wanna try out this simple but oh-so-pretty eye look. I’ve linked all the products just in case you fancy a quick nosey via their official web-stores too; aren’t I a thoughtful blogger?! 😉 Sitting comfy? Then let’s get started…

 .

Step 1 – Prep & Prime

 DSC00444

So to begin I’m using a teeny tiny dab of Urban Decay Sin Primer. I find this gives a beautiful soft shimmer which really helps to make the pigmentation of the eye shadow stand out & of course leaves layered up lids looking crease free & fresh all day long!

 .

Step 2 – The Brows

 DSC00446

My next step is to tame the brows using a spoolie brush, filling in any blank spaces with an eyebrow pencil and smoothing out with a Real Techniques eye liner brush. I find this elongates the brows and gives a natural but semi groomed appearance. It’s so darn easy to overdo it with the brows so remember to tread carefully, the Rupaul look doesn’t bode well for a lot of us!

Next I take a tiny bit of strange on my Urban Decay brush and lightly highlight just under the brows to give a nice sharp look that helps to define my brow line.

.

Step 3 – Blend It Out

DSC00448

Taking a Real Techniques base brush from my Nic’s Picks collection, I line along the eye crease with the colour ‘Limit’. Blend, blend, blend and when you think you’re done… blend it out some more!

.

Step 4 – Lift The Lid

 DSC00452

Next I pack the lid with ‘Burnout’ which is a beautiful blush pink with a just hint of shimmer. You may need to reapply at a later stage to help brighten up the lid & really make the colour pop… so load up your brush and get packing ladies!

.

Step 5 – Outer Corner & Under Eye

DSC00454

DSC00458

Taking my Real Techniques base brush I use a little bit of ‘Nooner’ to blend into the outer crease. This beautiful matte shadow gives an incredible burst of definition to the outer edges and really begins to create some depth and shape. Again it’s reeeeeally important to get your blend on girls to ensure no harsh lines & that everything mulls beautifully into a gorgeous soft ombre effect. I also pop a little bit of ‘Nooner’ under my lower lash line – this is completely optional, so if you don’t fancy creating a slightly smokier look then feel free to give the under lash a miss.

.

Step 6 – Touch the Tears

 DSC00457

Lastly using my Urban Decay basic brush I dab a tiny amount of strange around the tear ducks and out crease/lash line. I find this just brightens the corner of the eyes, making them appear bigger, brighter and beautifully blended.

.

Step 7 – Flick & Finish

 NKD look

With all my looks I love to finish it off with a small winged lash line using MUA Liquid Liner (I find the applicator the easiest of all to use). I then curl the lashes to give a little bit of lift & add a generous helping of Seventeen Falsifeye HD Mascara which creates a clump free, long & fluttery look.

Voila, the finished result in 7 simple steps…

DSC00476

 DSC00471

 (…albeit looking a tad startled!!)

So there we have it girls, my go to look using a range of muted tones from the gorgeous Urban Decay Naked 3. Do you have this palette? What’s your go to colours? Have you something similar or is it on your current wish-list? Whatever your thoughts do stop by & let me know in the comments below, hope you’re all having a fabulous May Day jolly holi 🙂

Face Of The Day…

Face Of The Day Confetti and Curves

Hey Beauty Buddies…

Something dawned on me yesterday morning as I was preparing to rummage through my make-up bag… I haven’t tackled a FOTD post! *gasp* So being less than an arms-length away from my trusty camera I thought it would be fun to run you through one of my daily make-up looks.

FOTD 2

.

After cleansing and moisturising I start of by prepping my tired and grey complexion with the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer. My go to foundation is Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 HR Foundation (to read my recent review *click here*) followed by a dab of the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer over any patchy or red areas. Lastly, I add a tiny amount of the Urban Decay Primer Potion to ensure my eyeshadow will last as long as possible without any creasing or fading. If you haven’t tried this primer you must – it’s beyond amazing and will last a lifetime!

FOTD 3]

Sidecar: Across lid

Sin: Inner crease

Toasted: Outer crease/above lid

Hustle: Outer corner crease

Considering I’m a shadow obsessive, my eyes always take the longest in my routine – everything else just seems so quick to apply in comparison. Today I’m using one of my favourite palettes Urban Decay NAKED, followed by MUA liquid liner and two coats of Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara.

 FOTD 3

.

As most of you know I’m paler than pale so to avoid looking like an extra from Twilight it’s essential I wash over my cheeks with a skimming of bronzer. Recently I’ve been using the MUA bronzer, which I has undoubtedly been one of my most used purchases this year. To apply I always reach for my Real Techniques Cheek Brush from the Nic’s Picks set. It’s by FAR the best brush I’ve ever used for evening applying powder. It controls the product so nicely, feels incredibly soft on the skin and puts everything right where you want it: on your face in an orderly manner!

 FOTD 4

Lastly it’s time to add a little pout with a small coating of MUA Bare (shade 14) I’ve really grown to adore this shade, however it took me a little while getting used to going so light. Usually I’ll add a base of Revlon Crème Gloss in Wine Anytime before applying, just to add a little extra note of pink!

 Face Of The Day

Finally… Taa Daa

And there we have it, a fresh face ready to tackle the rest of the day ahead thank to a multitude of my favourite make-up must haves.

pink heart

Hope you all had a great weekend! As always thanks for reading and don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below… see you all tomorrow with an exciting Behind The Blog post! *Yaaay*

Tried & Tested: Claire’s Natural Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

Claires Natural Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

Product:

Claires Accessories 5 Piece Natural Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

Where I purchased it & cost:

Claires Accessories Store, £4.50 – this product is also available from their website

*Click here* to check it out!

Manufacturer Description:

– 5 x 0.8g

– 1 Double ended sponge applicator included

– Packaging: Plastic

Packaging:

I’ll admit, the casing is pretty basic, nothing major to shout about but then again the palette costs a mere £4.50 so it’s pretty safe to say it falls well within expectations. The outer branding looks really pretty and of course the palette comes with it’s own double ended applicator – which is actually quite robust compared to some of the basic applicator freebies supplied with well known ‘drug store’ brands.

Pros:

Honestly ladies I was pretty darned shocked when I spotted Claires make-up collection whilst popping into my local store for some hair clips. I had absolutely no idea they had their own range of beauty goodies. Being a fanatic of shimmer I fell in love with this palette instantaneously as the shades are stunning… in fact it’s so pretty I almost didn’t want to smear the individual little pots of perfection when I got it home! I know, I’m a weirdo – but things look so much prettier when they’re brand new & unused *sob*

The consistency of the eye-shadow has a creamy texture and applies well onto the eye lid. The light shimmer tone is wonderful for making even the most exhausted of peepers come to life, even after a few simple strokes.

The shadows are easy blendable and somewhat sheer however with a decent eye primer they will stay put for the duration of day/evening. Not bad for £4.50 right?

Cons:

I’ll admit the pigmentation isn’t up there with some of the big players such as Urban Decay, however they are buildable and have a beautiful tone/texture.

The top of the shadows are dusted in a beautiful light glitter that I assumed would have been present throughout the product, unfortunately after the first couple of strokes it becomes apparent it’s simply a pretty topper *sigh* However don’t let that put you off, the shades underneath are still just as impressive without the sprinkle of glimmer.

Re-purchase/Recommend?

Would I repurchase? Absolutely!

Would I recommend? Most definitely!

Verdict:

Claire’s have really impressed me with this sassy little palette. Okay the packaging is basic but the product is fabulous for such an affordable price tag. Considering I’ve had numerous compliments when wearing these shades it always seems a shocker when I tell my admirers it’s a Claire’s eye shadow palette – so few people know about this gorgeous range of make-up must haves! Time to up the promo Claire’s… more beauty addicts need to know about this dazzling collection of goodies.

Overall I’m bestowing it with a rather impressive 8/10
