DIY Cute Snow Owl Christmas Decorations…

Cute Snow Owl Christmas Decoration Crafts

As promised, I previously mentioned I’d be rolling up my sleeves and causing havoc with plundering through my abandoned craft drawers. However as the ‘season to be jolly’ is closing in (and many of us are preparing to embark on the perilous journey into the attic to dust off our Christmas trees) what better way to kick start the shenanigans than with an easy peasy festive craft? As most of you already know my love for anything owl related runs pretty deep, so this seemed the perfect project to get started. Fancy giving it a go too? Then’s here how…

Fold over each half of the tops of your toilet roll tubes until they’re closed & resembling the shape of an owls head. Next it’s time to load up your paint brush with a dose of white paint and get smothering your loo or kitchen rolls. I used regular white craft paint as it dries quick & is super affordable from pretty much any super market or craft supply store. You’ll probably need a few coats to make sure there’s no patches or uneven coverage.

Ps: metallics paints such as rose gold or silver also look incredible too!

.

Whilst you’re helplessly waiting on your painted loo rolls drying, it’s time to get crafty with your card. Using a penny & two pence piece as a guide (or whatever alternatives in your own currency) draw at least 7-10 circles using the smaller coin on the back of the card. Next draw another 2 circles with the larger coin for the eyes. Lastly you’ll need to draw 2 wings – an elongated tear shape is super simple to draw. Using a sharp pair of craft scissors cut out your shapes and set them to one side.

Repeat this step for every owl you’ll be making!

.

Once the body of your owls are touch dry it’s time to break out the craft glue and start gluing on the extra details. PVA craft glue is ideal for this as it’s strong, easy to work with, dries clear & very quickly. I find it easier to pour a little onto a paper plate & use a cotton bud to apply to the back of the shapes.

Start off by gluing the two larger circles near the top of the body for eyes. Next add the smaller circles to resemble chest detail. I started with the top row and overlayed them working down… 3 rows are more than enough for this. Lastly glue on the wings by ensuring the wider part of the tear drop is the part you stick to the sides of the body.

.

DIY Snow Owl Craft Tutorial Collage 4

Finally it’s time to finish the face details.  For the eyes you can use buttons, googly eyes (that can be bought from most craft stores_ or opt for simple little cut outs like myself & Em’s did. Using a piece of black foam (or card) cut out another two circles using the smaller coins as a guide & stick them in the centre of the larger sparkly circles. To add a fun little pupil cut out two tiny white circles and glue them onto the black circles. A hole-punch is ideal for these if you have one to hand!

To create the owl’s beak all you’ll need is a teeny triangle of orange coloured card. Carefully stick it underneath the owls eyes and you’re good to go!

.

DIY Snow Owl Craft Tutorial Collage 5

Voila! Your DIY Owls are now complete! Why not add some string so you can hang them from the tree or you could create a little owl mobile? Our little sparkly owl family will be perched along a window sill until the tree goes up next weekend!! *woo hoo* 😀

Holly Closing Winter

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Honesty, renovations, reviews, makeup attempts.

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve been reading other blogs for a while and all the tutorials I came across were perfectly done.  I figured I couldn’t be the only one who couldn’t apply makeup fantastically, so I set up a blog to show people it’s ok not to be prefect first time around, it takes practice.  I also wanted to add bits about my home life as my boyfriend and I are renovating a house and garden at the moment!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

It’s the name given to me by my Xbox when I created a live account.  It’s kinda stuck now so I use it for everything.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Luckily as I’ve only been blogging for just over two weeks, I’ve not had the dreaded BB yet.  I’m pretty sure if I did, a strong cup of coffee or tea and a trawl through the internet would give me ideas.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Awww, this is hard.  If you mean my own posts, then probably my smoky eye look post.  It was the first time I’d ever attempted to copy a tutorial and I had loads of fun doing it. https://closingwinter.wordpress.com/2015/08/08/attempting-a-smoky-eye-look/

If you’re talking someone else’s blog, then probably yours! (*blush*)  I absolutely loved reading through your Helpful Resources post (http://confettiandcurves.com/2015/08/17/helpful-resources-for-budding-beauty-bloggers/)

“Aaawwh, what a compliment, thank you kindly Holly 🙂 – Karen x”

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Very casual.  You’re likely to find me wearing jeans (either my own or my boyfriend’s ripped ones), a t-shirt/vest top and my beloved Converse.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

I’m loving my Garnier micellar water, Boots Coconut Oil and my Sleek palettes.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Watching crap tv, cuddling with my boyfriend and cat.  I also find blogging therapeutic.

See above.  I definitely prefer a night in to a night out.  If I meet up with friends, it’s usually at each other’s house, rather than a pub/club.

.

What do you do to relax?

I like baking and reading blogs.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Speaking before thinking!

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Going to visit my grandparents in Devon.  They died when I was 8 so I struggle to remember all the details, but there are some, like my Grandpa’s mint jar and the lovely smell of their kitchen, that I remember vividly.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Probably English.  I used to love writing stories.

.

What’s your dream job?

I have no idea.  I’ll let you know when I’ve found it!!

Still blogging, maybe married with a child.  Or on a beach somewhere.

Sky dive, see the pyramids at Giza, gamble in Las Vegas, get married, and go to Monaco to watch Formula 1 live.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I was self-employed for 4 years when I was 20.  I owned a gothic clothing shop.  It was an incredible experience!

My friends Sarah, Charlie, Jess and Amy.  They’re all really strong amazing women and inspire me to do great things.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Behind The Blog featuring Seri’s Blog…

Seris Blog

Howdy y’all…

Apart from being deliriously happy it’s only one more sleep til another weekend descends upon us, I’m also a bit of a cheery chappy to introduce the ever so smiley Seri from Seri’s Blog joining me on the virtual sofa today! *woo hoo* Ladies, you’re most definitely in for a treat with this talented young gal as her blog is a little treasure trove of lifestyle, beauty, food, reviews… pretty much everything fun & fabulous!

Not only is she a superb blogger, she’s also the co-founder of A Dollar Campaign (I hope you don’t mind me linking this Seri!!!) which is a superb cause that’s dedicated to finding a cure to pediatric cancer. Being a mama, this is an issue that’s most definitely fiercely close to my own heart… to see the great efforts of others (like Seri) being put into fighting such a worthy cause for children suffering from such a heart breaking illness is just incredibly moving. Keep up the amazing work Seri – I’m pretty sure the whole WordPress family is in major support of your hard efforts!

So please do take the time this morning to settle down with your cuppa and get to know this fabulous young lady a whole lot better, she’s such an inspiration and I’ve no doubt you’ll adore her & her blog every bit as much as I do!!

This question involves a bit of a back story. And it starts with the hit TV show the Bachelor! I was watching Sean Lowe’s season and I decided to follow him on Instagram. From her blog, I came across many others that I fell in love with. Before that, I hardly even knew about the blogging world!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I usually don’t, and here’s why– Whenever I have an idea, I ALWAYS write it down right away. I also keep a separate calendar just for my blogging schedule. I have all my posts scheduled for weeks in advance. So in case I do have blogger’s block, it’s okay because I have time tofigure it out!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I love the About Me posts that I post every Wednesday. But my very favorite post is when I shared my homemade gift ideas. I love this post because I love getting creative while making things for the people I love!

Happy 1st Blogiversary Confetti & Curves…

Happy Birthday Confetti And Curves

I can’t quite believe it’s been 1 whole year since I created my little online haven, Confetti & Curves. Over the course of this last year I’ve learned so much & met so many amazing people that have inspired me creatively & made my blogging journey such a memorable one.

Casting my mind back twelve months ago, I was in a very different place than I am today. As a few of you already know, I battle daily with OCD & GAD – two incredibly draining disorders that have the power to control, if not ruin, your life. It hasn’t been an easy ride I can assure you, but logging in every day to read an abundance of encouraging & supportive comments has been the driving force to keep me going – all the while enjoying every moment I spend writing, creating, photographing, planning, filming & just generally having fun chatting with you lovely lot.

I really don’t say this as often as I should but from the bottom of my heart thank you all so very very much for your support… and for coming along on this exciting journey with me! I’ve had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful mixture of exciting brands & pr teams, whilst continually building a small army of undoubtedly the best blog buddies & regular readers a girl could hope for.

So today I’m going to raise a rather full champagne glass *hiccup* and make a heartfelt virtual toast to every single one of my fantastic friends & readers across the globe for making Confetti & Curves the lively little corner of the interweb that it is. The impact blogging has made on my life has been the most worthy form of medicine. So thank you. Here’s to many more years of blogging bliss ahead… bottoms up chums *clink*

Helpful Resources for Budding Beauty Bloggers

Helpful Resources For Beauty Blogging

In theory there’s no right or wrong way to blog, if you love it you simply just do it. However, if your blogging with an audience of regular readers in mind there are a few tips & tricks that can be really useful to keeping your blog ticking over like a well oiled machine. In my case, I’ve learnt a lot by making a mound mountain of mistakes – there’s nothing quite like the journey of a steep learning curve! However, those bumps along the way have paved my own personal growth as a blogger. Being able to share what I’ve learned with others is just a simple way to give new bloggers a helping hand in avoiding the pitfalls such as bloggers block and crazy scheduling mishaps; this post pretty much catalogues some of my own helpful resources that might come in handy for others!

Once again, thank you all so very much for tagging along & making Confetti & Curves one of my most cherished projects to date. If anything, blogging has made me realise that no matter where we are in the world, what our cultural backgrounds are, size, shape or skin colour… a genuine passion for what we love doing pulls us all together to become the greatest of friends that have yet to meet.

Pimp Your Pumps…

Pimp Your Pumps

Hey Blog Buddies…

I have to admit, although I relish a pair of super-comfy casual shoes I’m rather partial to a teeny bitta bling every once in a while. Naturally not all summer days are bursting with sunshine here in N. Ireland, so having a pair of sassy little pimped-up pumps helps add a touch of fun glam to any summer outfit for those slightly cooler days. I absolutely adore mine & have even been asked by complete strangers where they can get a pair of their very own…. hmmm I feel a crafty little DIY tutorial brewing 😉 Here goes:

.

1) Treat yourself to a shiny new pair of pumps. It doesn’t have to be the latest Converse, in fact it’s probably best you try it out on a cheaper pair first. I bought my tester pair from Dunnes Stores which were well below only £8. Not bad eh? 😉 Alternatively you could always up-cycle any old Converse you might have lurking in the depths of your closet by popping them in the wash (just make sure to check out the manufacturers cleaning guidelines first!)

grey converse

2) Gently clean the tip of your shoes with a baby wipe or damp cloth to remove any grimy residue that may prevent your crystals from sticking… this leaves the tips clean & ready to decorate!

toe of pump

3) Pour a blob of fabric glue onto a paper plate – you’ll only need to use the tiniest amount so make sure it’s no bigger than a penny. Whatever you do make sure you use fabric glue to ensure the materials bond together strongly enough for everyday wear & tear. Ordinary craft glue just ain’t an option crafters! I’d recommend using Gem Tac by Beacon, it worked a treat for me & set the crystals perfectly!
Fabric Glue
4) Scatter out your gems onto a separate paper plate. Roll a small blob of Blu Tack onto the end of your cocktail stick.  Carefully lift a crystal using the blu tack end of your cocktail stick and dip the base of the crystal very lightly onto the glue then immediately fix to the toe of the shoe. Start at the edge and work across.

Alternatively you can put a tiny patch of glue onto the rubber toe and apply your rhinestones straight onto the shoe, however you need to work really quickly as it dries super fast!

5) Leave your shoes to dry overnight then Voila… your sparkly new pumps are ready to wear!

Don’t forget you can try this with a whole range of brightly coloured rhinestones!!

Fancy giving this a try yourself? What coloured crystals would you go for?

Make Your Own ‘I Heart Buttons’ Wall Art…

DSC00533a

Happy Monday Blog Buddies…

It’s been a ridiculous length of time since I’ve tackled some crafty DIY projects, so this weekend I thought it was high time I put right to abandoning my craft drawers and got a little creative with a truck load of buttons I’ve had gathering dust in some containers. I must say I ADORE button craft and find them incredibly cute in almost any project, but seeing as I had a spare frame from Ikea and a rather bare looking bedroom wall I thought I could combine the two and tackle this cute heart shaped button collage to brighten up my boudoir decor. Fancy giving it a go yourself? Here’s how to do it…

.

The must-have ingredients:

One rather fabulous looking photo-frame – Ikea are great for a whole range of shapes & sizes to suit any budget

A small truck-load of buttons (well, maybe just a container full)

Glue Dots or Clear Drying Craft Glue

.

1) The Frame

DSC00511

Firstly you’ll need to get hold of a decent size frame, however if your buttons are small enough I’m sure it could work equally as well in something a little more dainty. Steve bought me this frame from Ikea quite some time ago, it’s a very chic looking ‘Norrlida’ frame which is perfect for displaying a pop of colourful buttons! Measuring in at 50x50cm’s it’s quite a biggie, but seeing as it’s for a rather expansive wall it’s the perfect size for maximum impact.

.

2) The Buttons

DSC00520

For this project you’ll need quite a few handfuls of them, of course all that depends on the size of frame and shape that you’re creating. I easily used 200-300 and kept it to a mixture of different colours so it would pull in accents of any room colour should I wish to hang it somewhere else. Both E-bay & Amazon have a great range of buttons for sale in packs of colours to suit whatever shade your heart desires. I personally think the blush tones are incredibly chic!

.

3) The Heart

PicMonkey Collage

Now it’s time to roll up the sleeves and get on with the fun part… if you’re using the Norrlida frame remove the backing, take the strong cardboard insert & choose which colour you’d prefer the background for your buttons to be – black or white. I went for white as it will tie in a little better with the rest of the decor.

DSC00519

Next draw a large heart on the middle of the blank board. This doesn’t have to be too perfect as your buttons will take on a shape of their own… just try and keep the line as feint as possible.

.

4) Filling In

DSC00531

Carefully place a mound of buttons onto the canvas and begin to spread them out into the positioning & shape you want. After you’ve got the buttons placed where you want them to be it’s handy to take a quick snap of your picture, just in case any of them get misplaced or moved.

DSC00528

Keeping the buttons on the background, take your pack of sticky dots and begin to stick each button individually onto the canvas – this is by far the most time consuming of the whole project, mine took at least 40 minutes to place so I’d suggest you keep your laptop close by and stock up on your favourite YouTubers to keep you company. Ooooh, talking of which… you can check out my channel by *clicking here* 😉 hehe

glue dots

As an alternative to sticky dots you can use clear-drying craft glue to affix your buttons with, however it is a little bit messier and will need a considerable amount of drying time before you can place your work of art into it’s frame – hence why I love glue dots. There’s no mess, just instant adhesive without the drying time!

.

5) You’re Done

Voila! Once they’re all stuck (and dried if using glue) then it’s time to house your button art back in the frame – this will test if you’ve missed any or not, which is why your picture earlier may come in handy.

Once the art piece is securely in its frame give the glass a little wipe with window cleaner to remove any smudge marks & get ready to hang your work of art for all to admire! I’m putting mine above my dressing table as it will work perfectly with all the coloured lotions and potions!

There you have it beauty buddies, my little weekend craft project. What do you think? Is this something you’d try? What colour would YOUR buttons be?

As always thanks so much for stopping by and don’t forget to say a quick hello in the comments below!

Ask Me Anything…

DSC00506

Hey Blog Buddies,

As most of you know, I launched Confetti & Curves back in October of 2014. Since then I’ve had the utter pleasure of making so many new interweb chummies – all thanks to the powers of WordPress & Social Media! Starting off in the blogging world is always pretty nerve wrecking but having a community of such supportive & encouraging folk really does wonders for the confidence and builds amazing new friendships along the way.

Of course being marinated with kindness from you lovely lot has also recently given me incentive and courage to even start my own YouTube channel *click here to check it out*… something I NEVER thought was personally achievable, yet it’s happened and I’m loving the *slightly intimidating* fun I’m having making my weekly rants and rambles. However recently it occurred to me that even though I blog 5 days a week, interview many of you guys for the roaringly successful Behind The blog series, read your posts & interact with as many of you as time allows me to, I thought it would be fun to invite you to ask me any questions you just might have that I normally don’t cover in my day-to-day posts. Sounds like fun? *Hmm* I thought so too 😀

So if there’s anything YOU would like to know – it could be about likes, dislikes, friends, personal life, family life, relationships, work, beauty, career, coping with anxiety, health, parenting, the blog…. *the list goes on*… then by all means leave your question in the comments below & I’ll be sure to tackle it all in a Q&A video. Oh, and do feel free to leave the url to your blog/YouTube channel too (if) you’d like me to include it in your mention.

Wishing ya’ll a rather jolly Monday *if that’s at all possible* 😉
