Seven Spooky Nail Art Designs For Halloween…

spooky-halloween-nails

I’m currently obsessed with browsing over intricate little nail designs, which is no surprise coming from a nail tech. Pinterest, Instagram, Google – I could spend hours sifting through the hoards of awe inspiring nail designs. However this Halloween I’ve a few clients who are super excited to get their talons transformed into something rather spooktacular!

To help me conjure up a few concepts of my own I’ve stumbled across some inspirational design ideas that have been hand-crafted by some of the best nail artists on the web. So if like me, you’re on the lookout for some fun ways to jazz up your nails this Hallows Eve then check out this creepy crew…

.

1) Peek-a-boo

google-eyes

Cute, fun and best of all an easy peasy nail art project for virtually any skill level. All you need is some good quality black & white polish, along with a dotting tool, and hey presto – you can create your very own little spooky eyeballs!

.

2) Mummified

How hilarious is this Egyptian mummy inspired nail art by YaGala?! I love the little googly eyes that give it such a fun 3D quality – definitely one I’ll be trying out over the next few days!

.

3) Sugar Skulls

x354-q80

Over the past few years ‘Sugar Skulls’ have become a hot Halloween trend, with awesome face paints and fun makeup tutorials! I love these colourful skull nail decals which make decorating your talons a whoooole lot easier. Simply wet, peel and stick! What a fab idea 😀

.

4) Haunted House

hw-nails

Wow!! I adore this cute little Haunted House scene from Stylish_Mom. That gorgeous matte ombre effect finished off with such intricate hand painted designs makes this the perfect eye-catching illustration for any trick or treater!

.

5) Itty Black Kitty

No Halloween nail art collection would be complete without the universal accessory of spookiness – the illustrious black cat. I love the purple background and cute kitty’s face peeking over the free-edge created by The Nail Trail. This is definitely one to etch onto on my to-do list!!

.

6) Wonder Web

spider-web

How fabulous is this chic spiders web design? However, fear not fellow shaky-handed folk as there are plenty of Halloween themed stamping plates to help you achieve the same precise detail without having to be a modern day Picasso!

.

7) Jack Skellington

halloween-nail-art-jack-skellington

Obviously, I had to include a nail design of one of my favourite Halloween characters’ – the fabulous Jack Skellington. I’m head over heels for this work of nail-art by Cute Polish… and it looks pretty easy to recreate. It’s certainly inspired me to give it a go!

Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

What a week…

Between a potent concoction of hospital appointments, blood tests, running errands, organising Emma’s Halloween costume, school appointments etc. These days I’m sure I moan 70% more than I ever did before… not getting time squeezed in for filming, trying to lift my head of the pillow some days, whilst other days I’m ever so thankful that I’ve managed to get up and dressed. Sounds crazy right? Especially at the age of 34. But this last month seems to be this very scenario on repeat play – kind of like groundhog day but in a week-to-week format. If anything, this past month has taught me to be grateful for schedules AND the ability to stick to them… something I was always good at but not so much lately. Is that an excuse to buy myself an Erin Condren planner? Nah, didn’t think so gals, but maybe a Christmas treat to roll in 2017 – I guess I should start leaving hints for Santa sometime soon 😉

But as always, I love to get a little Sunday chatter in with you lot… and if you’re scrolling through the interwebs on the search for a few fun snippets whilst you sip your ‘Sunday mug of yumminess’ then why not check out a few of the links below? If you’re a blogger too, you’re welcome to leave a link to any blog posts you’d like me to check out – which reminds me Emma from Country Girl Em, I’m still to catch up with your previous weekly round-up so I’ll be sure to pop by today for a chatter 😀 Why not check out her blog for yourself too, it’s certainly a favourite of mine!

DIY Spooky Halloween Bat Display…

halloween-bat-display

As Halloween swiftly approaches, I always get an overwhelming desire to roll up my sleeves, break out the acrylic paints, paper glue and dive right into making cute little Halloween crafts. Of course having an 11 year old daughter only adds to the excuse to run riot, and as per usual Emma’s roped into peppering our little abode with all sorts of spooky artistry.

This year I thought I’d attempt a really cute bat display I spotted in Tesco Food & Living Magazine. Although the original creation is displayed with the twigs pushed into a Pumpkin, Em’s and I thought we’d save ours the pain of piercing him with garden sticks and opted a glass flower vase instead finished off with black ribbon.

I must admit, this is probably one of the easiest and most effective Halloween crafts I’ve created (even the most novice of crafter can’t go far wrong), it doesn’t make too much mess (though a table covering is highly recommended) and is relatively quick so you’re not left grumbling a few hours later – great for eager kiddies who prefer to see their efforts come to life rather pronto!

So here’s what you’ll need:

HWC1

Firstly, get yourself out to the garden or local woodland and find some decent size twigs. Thankfully our garden is edged with rather bulky bushes so uncovering our twigs wasn’t too much of a task, however, you’ll also need to rustle up:

Some paint (acrylic works really well)

A decent child’s sized paint brush

Some black card

Twine or thread

A pencil and pair of scissors…

Something to display the twigs in when done: vase/pumpkin/large jar/ empty bottle etc.

.

Here’s how to do it:

After rummaging around the garden to find your chosen sticks, clear them of all dirt and debri. I’d suggest you also give them a clean under warm water to remove any hidden nasties that could be lurking. If necessary leave them to dry.

Garden

(We found ours right beside Peppa the cat)

Once dry it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get painting! Em’s and I chose a gorgeous coppery acrylic paint for a touch of autumnal shimmer. However blacks, browns and even purple will look equally as impressive. Just make sure you get all the nooks and crannies covered, then leave the paint to dry – this really shouldn’t take too long if using acrylic, ours were touchable in 30 minutes!

Copper Acrylic Paint

Next take your black card and draw a template of a bat with your pencil. Cut this out and use it to draw another 4-6 bats… or as many as you darn well like! Carefully cut out your little colony of bats and trim to neaten. You’ll also need to rub out any obvious pencil lines.

Bat Outline Bats Cut Out

Next make a hole in the head of your bat *ouch* and carefully tie your thread through. I used a hole punch as my card was rather thick. Now make a loop on the other end of the thread to dangle your bats from the twigs.

HWC5 HWC6

Display your twigs in a vase (or pumpkin) and enjoy your crafty art work… voila!

HWC10 HWC8

.

Top Tips…

  • Sprinkle your twigs with glitter for an extra twinkly effect… black glitter looks fantastic over black acrylic paint!
  • Once done keep them for Christmas. You can always swap your bats for mini baubles!
  • If you’re limited for space why not make a miniature version to display on your desk? Your bats could look super cute in a jam jar with some spooky themed ribbon tied around it!

Will you be attempting any Halloween themed crafts this year? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by for a quick chatter 🙂

Behind The Blog featuring A Girl Named Egypt…

A Girl Named Egypt

Howdy Chums…

It oddly occurred to me (as I was editing this very post) just how long Behind The Blog has been running for… November 2014 is when I first launched the series & since then I’ve had such a blast hosting well into the hundreds of bloggers who’ve featured on here. Getting to know each of you individually in such a fun & creative way has been such a treat, & of course I’m raising a tea cup to many more to come! So if YOU haven’t already featured on Behind The Blog then why not check it out by *Clicking Here* for all the information on how you can get on-board and spread the word of your online haven within the blogging community! Do keep in mind that it books up pretty quickly, so if you’re eager to get involved don’t hesitate to drop me a line 🙂

However, onto our second blogger of the week as we welcome the lovely Egypt who’s joining us on the virtual sofa this morning to chat about her blossoming lifestyle blog A Girl Named Egypt. Egypt is still making her way through school, but has embarked on her very own blogging journey (all thanks to the encouragement of her mum) & now adores pouring her creative skills into fantastic fun features that are such a treat to read. I find it so encouraging to see younger bloggers weaving their creative interests through blogging, and secretly I’m hoping my own daughter takes to blogging every bit as much when the time comes! So if you haven’t already met Egypt, do take a moment to pop over and say a huge hello – I’m sure you’ll enjoy catching up with her posts just as much as the rest of us do!

You know the drill by now gals… grab a cuppa & get yourself comfy as we take a peak Behind The Blog

Egypt

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog?

Reviews, DIY’s & Witty Innuendo-filled Ramblings

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

My Mum actually gave me the push to do it (Bello, she likes minions, Mum if your reading this ✌ ). Its actually not that exciting of a blog back-story but one day I had just watched the new episode of The Vampire Diaries, and like always, I was rambling on to Mum about everything that happened in the episode. She just casually said “Why don’t you make a blog”, I was like “ What?”, “Yeah, Then you can talk and rant about whatever you want to whenever you want to and you do heaps of nail art and crafts so you can write about that too” My mum said.

I knew about blogs because of people like Zoella and Sprinkleofglitter and I had being thinking about creating one a year before and I loved writing so I thought ‘why not?’ and spent that whole day and night researching, writing ideas and going through about 50 different themes and finally A Girl Named Egypt was born

.

Tell us about your blog name what made you decide on it?

Well like I was saying above I had thought about blogging for a while and one day being the YouTube obsessed generation we are, my brother and I were talking about YouTube and I just had an inspirational moment (A

K.A. Fate Fairy) that if I ever had a blog or YouTube channel that I would call it A Girl Named Egypt and I even created this…

BTBAGCE1

…horribly put together banner thing, a while before I actually created this blog.

P.S: I also took this picture with my super old time-stamped digital camera

Plus, I think its self-explanatory. It’s like a quick introduction to… well, everything .

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes I do, I actually had blogger’s block SUPPPER bad in September and I found the best thing was to just take a break and take a step back. Even though my irrational brain felt like I was letting people down for not blogging (but that’s just because I get all thingy and thought I would lose all my followers over just one week) it really helped. Its good to take a break sometimes and I would rather have no blog posts than a bunch of rubbish posts that I’m not proud of.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

This is kind off a hard question but I really love my 50 Things That Make Me Happy Part 1 & 2as i think they were quite funny posts and really “Me” But I really love Beware The Spider Bite (which is a cooking tutorial I made for Halloween) because of how they turned out. Or Hello Worldas that post is a very big step in my blogging journey; or 2015 In Review as I loved the huge progress I made last year!

(btw you might notice by now that I’m quite indecisive and its really hard for me to pick a favourite)

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

In one word… Different.

I don’t really have a “Style”, I kinda just wear what i feel like that day. Today for instance, I’m wearing ripped Skull tights and my “Doc martens” but yesterday I wore all monochrome with a little crop top and my black and white singlet / shirt over top, and tomorrow I will probably wear a dress and ballet shoes or something so yeah I don’t really have a set style.

Although Monochrome and Pastels do play a big role in my dream wardrobe and I can not look past a nerdy, fandom referenced shirt or band merch .

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

  1. I have a mild non-contagious skin condition which is genetic called Keratosis Pilaris which isn’t as bad as it seems but to keep it at bay you have to moisturise and exfoliate so my moisturiser Nivea Incredibly Smooth is number one everyday item
  2. Nivea Make-up Wipes. I love these and I use them to remove make-up and just to clean my face morning and night but they are so amazing to use for trips.
  3. Lip Balm… I take one where ever I go! Currently I’m using Baby Lips tinted lip balm in berry crush and its also SPF so its perfect for NZ Summers.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

YouTube and Music. If I’m having a really crappy day these are my saviours.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

BTBAGCE2

Hmm, probably sitting in my bed with popcorn and hot chocolate, MORE chocolate and watching Supernatural, Lost, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Rupaul Drag Race and again YouTube and music and then reading one of my bi-gillion books.

.

What do you do to relax?

I struggle with relaxing as I feel really lazy and bad if i have a day “off” but that’s just because my brain works differently to most but usually crafts like clay, knitting (yes, I Knit), or reading and again music (I think close to 95% of the day I have music on) I’m actually listening to Melanie Martinez right now.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Ahh okay time to share but it’s okay because we are all friends here! Peeling off my nail polish is one of the worst. As I do nail art, you wouldn’t think I would but yes… ugh… and procrastinating, I’m really bad at that. If I’m not motivated I will just put things off or do other things I don’t really need to do and make “excuses”. And lastly worrying… this is the worst thing I do. You see my brain thinks of a situation like going on holiday and instead of being a normal brain it thinks up THE worst things that could happen and its really bad. When we used to go on holiday when I was younger I would literally make my self sick or feel bad from all the worrying about things that didn’t happen at all.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I have quite a few from my “Childhood” (I’m only 14 so I’m classifying childhood as 10 and under)

When I was maybe 8 or 9, It was my great auntie’s birthday and she lived about 6-7 hours away so my Nana, Poppa, little Cousin, younger Brother, Mum and I borrowed a big bus / small motor home and it was probably one of the best times of my life. We had so much fun. The bus was huge and had these weird bed/seats and you could walk around while it was moving and there was a bed at the back and because it was such a long trip we kinda looked around the towns too and had a Tiki tour around (Tiki tour is what Kiwis call having a look around places. See we are educational here at AGirlNamedEgypt); but one of my favourite moments was when we were coming home and we stopped off at a beach and played in the sea but the beach didn’t have proper sand it was like tiny pebbles and stuff. Then when we where done, we (the kids), all lay down on the bed/ floor of the bus (because it was moving it kinda rocked us to sleep) and dozed off and i just remember being so relaxed and the beautiful sunset.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I’m still in school (home-school) and currently it’s a 3-way tie, Science (Chemistry), Art and History. I’m not that good at Maths and stuff as it doesn’t really make sense to me, where as Art and Science comes sooo much easier. But I want to be a teacher (Primary / ECE) when I’m older so I’m going to keep on trying 😉

.

What’s your dream job?

Well, I really want to be a day care or primary teacher… but MY DREAM would to continue with Blogging and hopefully start a YouTube channel when I’m older as well.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I will be 20 (eek) so hopefully studying for my degree, have my full license and a small car, saving for England, still blogging and maybe even doing YouTube and having more relaxed fun as in not worrying about every little thing and just enjoying life in general.

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Probably driving for the first time and not killing anything… and driving a manual for the first time and not stalling it at all (I didn’t even know what stalling was until I finished lol)

.

Who inspires you?

My Mum and Nana – Our family doesn’t have the best of luck but my Mum and Nana always work through everything and try their hardest to do the best for their families and they are two of the loving and caring people i know 🙂 (Love you both, If your reading and I’m sorry Mum for all the grief I give you I hope you know i don’t mean it, just all that teen angst in me lol)

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

  1. Move to England – Probably not forever but i would love to live in England for awhile.
  2. Visit Japan – My whole family love Japan and Japanese culture, I would love to visit the little tea houses and stuff
  3. Have a family (when I’m older of cours )
  4. Go to Vidcon / Playlist Live
  5. Be HAPPY with my life – whatever happens in life and whatever path I take when I’m old and rocking on a chair on my front porch with all my grandchildren running around I want to be able to look back and think “Yeah, I kicked Life’s Butt” lol

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I have soo many quotes all over my room so these are my top 3:

You are one human with one life and its up to you to make it the best life you can – Dan Howell

You’re Mad. Bonkers, Off your head. But lt me tell you a secret. All the best People are – Alice In Wonderland

BTBAGCE3

This is the exact photo that is above my bookcase

Everything will be okay in the end, If its not Okay , Its not the End – From one of my best blogging buddies

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just do it. What have you got to lose? Making my blog was one of the best decisions of my life and it will most likely be one of yours, Blogging is something for you, it’s a chance to express yourself in any way you want to and to be yourself if you feel like you cant in your everyday life 🙂

Keeping Up With Karen

I love Sunday mornings… the smell of coffee wafting through the house, bacon sizzling on grill pan as I flick open the laptop and get caught up on some blog scheduling. As much as I try to keep to eating healthy during the week, Sunday morning is always my guilty pleasure but then again I opted for a ‘vino free’ night out with the gals last night as we danced our heels off to an Abba tribute band 😀 Okay, so the music might be a little ‘before my time’ but who doesn’t love warbling “Thank yoooo for the mussssic…” at the top of their lungs?

However, if like me, you’re starting Sunday off on a rather chilled note and fancy glancing over what shenanigans has been happening on Confetti & Curves this week then here’s a quick catch up of what’s been happening on the blog over the past few days…

Behind The Blog featuring Emma from Puddle Side Musings…

Puddle Side Musings

Hey Chums…

Firstly a huge big thank you for all the awesome feedback & oodles of kind comments on yesterdays feature Building A Beauty Room: The Reveal. It’s been such a fun and inspiring project to work on and I honestly can’t thank my hubby enough for putting all the hours into making it such the perfect little space. Best of all is how affordable the entire room cost to put together, so if home decor and organisation (particularly on a budget) sounds right up your street then do get over and check it out; you just might find yourself rolling up the sleeves for a spot of DIY too!

Talking of organisation, I’m beyond chuffed to introduce y’all to one of my awesome blog buddies who’s a massive inspiration when it comes to creative planning, crafting and organisation tips, as the talented Emma from Puddle Side Musings joins us on the virtual sofa. I’m often in awe at this gals creativity, as pretty much anything she puts her hand to seems to radiate the immense talent and skill this creative blogger hoards. Of course being an Irish blogger (like moi) always makes it extra special introducing someone a little closer to home for a change 🙂

So grab your cuppa & get comfy for five as we take a quick peek Behind The Blog with Emma…

Emma Puddle Side Musings

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Crafting, planning…and other things!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Peer pressure. Look, I was 17. I was young and all my friends were doing it! I started blogging because a friend kept telling me to post photos of my art online. I’m 23 now but you know, old habits die hard.

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Because my blog is my space to think about things and it’s from an Irish perspective. I thought about Pond Side Musings (you know, because Irish people sometimes refer to the Atlantic Ocean as a pond, like ‘ah sure, America, it’s just across the pond there’) but I liked the idea of Puddle Side Musings more, maybe because it reflects how much it rains here.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I haven’t been blogging too long with Puddle Side Musings so I’ve been spared so far (let’s try keep it that way!). Blogger’s Block has been the death of two other blogs of mine though so I’m trying to keep notes of any and all blog ideas I have and crafts I might like to try. Also, I swear all that time on Pinterest is research to prevent blogger’s block!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

At the moment, I think the post on My Craft Room Workspace – because it shows off my craft supplies in a lovely clean room…and it may never be that organised again!

https://puddlesidemusings.wordpress.com/2015/10/01/my-craft-room-workspace/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Lazy and an ‘eh, I’m not leaving the house today’ style.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

I don’t have a large collection of beauty products, but at the moment because my lips are in an awful condition, I’m quite liking Lush’s Santa’s Lip Scrub and their Honey Trap Lip Balm. And…you know what, I can’t think of a third at the moment!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

With a cup of tea, a hot water bottle, a blanket and Netflix, or maybe some Grand Designs on tv.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

See above! (What, who doesn’t want to spend their night in with Keven McCloud!)

.

What do you do to relax?

Drink a cup of tea. Or five.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I ramble. I use far more words than I need to to get a point across. I blame that on doing an English degree. Aslo, I procrastinate a lot and it takes me forever to get around to doing things. Really, I have so many bad habits I can’t think of which is worst!

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Leaving early from school one day when I was 11 to go down to Cork with my family and to meet a new member to the family –a black labrador puppy named Victor. He’s quite grey now (13 years old) but he’s still my puppy!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

In secondary school it was art, and I hated languages – so with a decision that made absolutely perfect sense, I decided not to go to art college but study languages at university. At college my favourite subject was Japanese.

.

What’s your dream job?

Making a living from selling things that I make…in my hobbit hole. That’s not entirely necessary to the dream job but it would be rather nice. I would very much like to live in a hobbit hole.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Aged 28 and trying to pay of the loans I’ll need to do a master’s degree – what can I say, I’m a realist!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

  1. Go to Hobbiton
  2. Travel around Japan
  3. See the northern lights
  4. Find a career that makes me happy
  5. See a total solar eclipse

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Either graduating with a first class honours degree or tricking people into thinking I understand Japanese by surviving four years of it at university.

.

Who inspires you?

To give a vague answer – people who are able to get things done! I spend a lot of time procrastinating so I really admire people who are make a difference in the world by doing something with their lives.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” – Gandalf the Grey

Yes, my inspiration quote is from The Lord of the Rings.  Or else, “Not all those who wander are lost.”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Don’t jump straight into it! Especially if you’re unsure what exactly you want your blog to be about. Take your time, work on building up a supply of blog ideas, writing draft posts and when you feel like you’ve fond your style, then start your blog

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = No question, tea!

Coke or Pepsi = Neither – don’t drink fizzy drinks

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = messily organised!

Building A Beauty Room: The Reveal…

I’ve been on my beauty blogging journey for almost 18 months now. Time flies when you’re having fun right? 😉 I started out with my humble make-up bag half full of staple cosmetics, yet somehow over the past year or so it’s become (almost) a full time hobby with a variety of lotions, potions and countless eye shadows that have pretty much taken over every little nook and cranny of my bedroom. Naturally, when my hubby came up with the pretty nifty solution of me ‘taking over’ the spare room I couldn’t resist the idea of having my own space to blog, create, craft and spend countless free hours conjuring up an array of fun make-up looks. What gal could resist?

After ten days of intense DIY my little beauty room/office space is finally finished. All the chipped & broken nails, cursing at unfathomable flat-pack instructions, trips to the DIY store and half drunk cups of tea were certainly worth the effort, as even I’ll admit it’s turned out even better than I imagined – all thanks to Steve’s handy work and a little bit of vision and creativity on my part. I love it. From the moment I open the door to the second I close it, I feel like I’m in my own little haven.

Best of all, pretty much everything is from the shelves of Ikea so it’s super affordable. From the cute little picture shelf displaying my entire polish collection to the huge corner desk that was so easily adapted for my ring lamp. Okay, so there might be a few little extra’s I’ve picked up along the way but I couldn’t resist such pretty little accessories that really give the room a subtle sprinkle of chic femininity!

So if you’re thinking of decorating on a budget, revamping a room or simply on the look out for some sassy but affordable storage for your cosmetic bits & bobs, then I really hope this weeks video will help inspire you too!

Cute Miniature Wall Frames for your Beauty or Office Space…

DIY Cute Miniature Beauty and Office Frames

As a few of you already know, I’m in the final stages of a fun DIY project at the moment… transforming our spare room into an office/beauty space. As my creative juices are well and truly flowing I find myself rolling up the sleeves and tackling a few little crafty projects, just to add some cute personal touches to my new workspace. One of my favourite projects this week has been this easy peasy transformation of these dinky little Ikea frames I had lying in the bottom of my craft drawers…

DSC02123

After many months of feeling unloved and abandoned from lying in the bottom of my craft drawers, it was finally time to dust them off and bring them to life by incorporating some really simple but effective artwork. So if you’re looking for some inspiration to bring a sprinkling of creativity to your walls why not give this a go? It’s a 15 minute project that will undoubtedly add a touch of girly glamour to any bare looking wall area.

As my new space will be used for both blogging & beauty, I wanted a variety of colours, themes and textures rather than one particular subject. With the frame inserts being so tiny (8x9cm) I thought I’d take to the pages of some old magazines I had lying about that were ready for recycling.

DSC02125

1) For the first frame I decided to use some simple magazine text. I thought this would tie in rather niftily with the vast amount of typing I do – kinda keeping in with the blogging ‘editorial’ style theme. Once I found the text I wanted I lightly drew around the frame insert, cut it out and popped it into place. Voila – job done!

2) For the second frame I wanted something a little more cosmetic related. After browsing through the beauty section of the magazine I stumbled across an image of raw eye shadows – perfect for the gal who’s addicted to shadow palettes 😉 Again I repeated the step of placing the frame insert over the image and drawing around the outside with pencil before trimming and slotting in into place.

3) For my third frame I decided on something quite patterned that would compliment a few of the nik naks I have scattered around the room itself. I’m all for florals and ‘shabby chic’ so when I spotted this floral printed suit in the fashion directory of the magazine I knew it would add a subtle hint of nature-inspired femininity.

As much as I enjoyed the easy-peasy task of picking different patterns and styles from the magazine, I’m always a fan of creating something handmade. For my fourth frame I decided to add a personal touch by paying homage to my creative streak & sketching something simple. My instant thought was a set of lips, not only due to my cosmetic drawers being laden with glosses and lippies, but also because of my step into YouTube that has enabled me to gain the confidence to chatter in front of the camera. Of course, anyone else looking at the frame will assume it’s just a drawing of a set of lips but it means a little more than that to me 😉

DSC02129

For this I used my Faber Castell watercolour pencils. I absolutely adore this set, as it give you the freedom to draw free hand however once finished you can transform your drawing into a watercolour painting by simply running a dampened brush over the artwork. It’s quick, easy and totally mess free = win win win!!!

How cute are these? Such an affordable yet effective way to add a little touch of personality to any beauty area or work space…

DSC02130

These mini Ikea Tysslinge frames also come in a choice of colours & finishes should you prefer black, white, wood or metal effect – the choice is entirely up to you. So why not put your old magazines to use or create some personalised drawings to brighten up your office or beauty space?

Keeping Up With Karen…

Regardless how organised I am, every year it never ceases to amaze me how I always tend to find myself composing an exhaustive list a few weeks before the big day – even when I have myself CONVINCED beyond reason that everything is sorted. Have we a hidden stash of various batteries for Emma’s toys? What about crackers for the table? Oh and don’t forget a table cloth – has to be gold, gold’s the theme this year!! *chews on lip for fear of missing something else* Ahhhh, that’s it… DISPOSABLE NIBBLE TRAYS!!!

Yesterday I closed the laptop spent the entire day avoiding all thoughts of what’s on my to do list but instead made pizzas & watched Jurassic World with Ems & Steve. It was glorious. Not a string of tinsel or toy advert in sight. I can’t help thinking that at times the pressure we place on ourselves at Christmas is so overbearing it can zap the fun straight out of it. Forget the endless TV ad’s highlighting the latest 48″ Star Wars action figure or Beach House Barbie… just sitting around watching a whole load of dinosaurs causing carnage whilst nibbling on a Hawaiian thin crust with the family is a nice break from the constant reminders of an endless to do list. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for celebrating the festivities, but occasionally it can be a little too easy to forget the reason for the season. Stress less, enjoy more & be grateful for what we’ve already got, right? ❤

So for those of you who aren’t rushing around a shopping mall today but deciding to take a weekend off from the mayhem of planning etc. Here’s a quick recap of what fun shenanigans have been featuring on Confetti & Curves this past week.

Disclaimer: lots of sparkle & cheesy seasonal references ahead, you have been warned!!!

Has everyone survived the Black Friday carnage without injury? I hope y’all came home armed with bundles of bargains, as for me I opted to avoid the high street mayhem this year by preparing to convert the abode into somewhat of a mini winter-wonderland. It’s now hubby’s job to venture into the depths of Spiderville (aka the attic) the retrieve our array of fairy lights, baubles & giant stuffed snowmen.

I’m really beginning to feel festive already… heck I’ve even got the seasonal DVD’s lined up including: Elf, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Jack Frost, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Polar Express, The Grinch, Muppets Christmas Carol…. I literally could go on and on!

However without ranting too much about the arrival of the Jolly Hols, if you fancy feasting your eye’s over a quick catch up on the weekly shenanigans then here’s a short run through of what’s been happening over the last few days here on Confetti & Curves, so grab your cuppa and let’s get started…
