Behind The Blog… featuring Clarina from Clarina Beauty

Clarina Beauty

Hey Beauty Buddies…

So to kick start this beautifully fresh autumnal Tuesday morning here on Confetti & Curves I’ve one of my loveliest blog & YouTuber buddies joining me on the virtual sofa this morning. The gorgeous Clarina from Clarina Beauty (previously know as Claire, My Life In Words) has stopped by for a quick chatter on behind the scenes of her blog & YouTube channel. If you adore lashings of make-up tips & sassy tutorials (mixed with a sprinkling of girly chatter) then you’ll love Claire’s ever expanding corner of the interweb,so do pop over and say a huge hello if you haven’t done so already – you most definitely won’t be disappointed!

You know the drill by now chums: grab your cuppa & get comfy as we take a peek Behind The Blog

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Beauty, advice, lifestyle and creativity!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I love writing and I wanted to put it to better use. I had no idea what blogging was or how to start a YouTube channel and it’s definitely been a learning curve but I absolutely love doing both.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

‘My Life in Words’ is a very vague name because at the time I had no idea what I was doing! But my blog is literally my life in my own words so it makes sense.

*Since publication of this interview Claire’s blog name has change to Clarina Beauty*

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes! I have two extremes which are Blogger’s Block and Crazy Writer (I just made that up) where I will either stop mid post because I feel lost and like I’ve hit a wall or I’ll have tonnes of ideas in one day so I’ll just role with it and publish 3 new posts.

I overcome writers block by going away for a few hours, switching off and more often than not an idea will pop into my mind completely out of the blue!

What’s your favourite post to date?

Weirdly, I loved the ‘How to Start a Successful Blog’ post I did. I got such lovely feedback because it seemed to help so many people. I wanted to do that post because I remember how lost I felt at the start! Read that here –

I also loved my most recent tutorial, ‘Wearable Purple Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial’. I got a new Mac palette and I just had to do a look with it. Read and watch that here –

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Honestly, my clothing and hair is rejected on a daily basis – I’m all about the makeup. But I love my Miss Selfridge cropped denim jacket paired with a white floaty strappy top with black and white patterned leggings and converse. I’m definitely more about comfort. I love my Uggs so much I wish it was acceptable to wear them in summer.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

  1. Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder is my number one holy grail product – it’s the only thing that keeps my oily skin at bay.
  2. Mac Pro Long Wear Concealer because it works with my blemishes and gives me a highlight.
  3. Becca Cosmetics Highlight in Moonstone – I have been all about the strobing recently!

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

A glass of wine, slippers and a massive dinner are all you need in life.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

See above… haha, I’m joking! I do like to dress up (and sometimes do my hair) and head out to a bar with friends which may or may not result in being a very late night. I just love to catch up with them and that seems to be the only way recently since we’re all mega busy during the day!

What do you do to relax?

I love a bubble bath with my favourite pink bubble bar from Lush, followed by a deep skin cleanse in front of a horror or romantic film (quite a contrast, right?).

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Nail biting – I just had to stop biting my nails to answer this question! I also pick the ends of my hair off. Such irritating habits I’ve never been able to stop.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Probably going on days out with my grandparents. They always took the time to take us out for the whole day when we visited them.

What was your favourite school subject?

Probably Art or ICT. I loved how relaxing the art lessons were and the freedom that we had with our ideas and work but I also loved ICT which is no surprise because that’s what I did my degree in!

What’s your dream job?

Something crazy like a Celebrity Events Organiser – do they even exist? Or I’d love to invent something that everyone needs and has.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully still blogging and youtubing! I would hope that I’m happy, successful, married that sort of thing; all the general stuff we all worry about.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I have a very extensive bucket list that I am working through

  1. Swim with dolphins – how cliché
  2. Visit all seven cotenants
  3. Drive through America
  4. See the Northern Lights
  5. Race a supercar on a race track

Read my post ‘Bucket List’ here –

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

This is going to sound quite sad, but I had ‘Appear on TV’ on my bucket list for years and I finally managed to make that happen last December when I appeared on popular British TV program Come Dine With Me! That’s one of my biggest achievements.

Who inspires you?

YouTuber Jaclyn Hill gave me the confidence to start my own channel and I’d have to say my mum because she supports me no matter what.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

My phone cover “Remind yourself that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing”.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

First of all, go for it! It’s probably the best thing I’ve ever done.

Find a main topic you’re going to enjoy writing about and brand yourself around this. Give yourself a catchy name that you can use in your URL, blog name and in your logo.  Leading me nicely onto, create a logo! People are much more likely going to remember you by your logo than anything else.

I could go on and on…
