Keeping Up With Karen…

Keeping Up With Karen

Happy Sunday Chums…

Well, I have to say this last few days has been a little ‘mehhh’ if truth be told, between battling a chest infection and a bit of a lingering head cold it seems that the winter lurgies have been doing the rounds super early this year. However on the up the weather has been pretty kind… anyone else notice how mild a November it’s turning out to be? I have a suspicion though my ‘season survival kit’ is going to need a bit of an update. Bring on the vitamins, cough mixtures &  flu remedies! In the mean time though, today shall be spent gladly recharging the batteries & enjoying a looooong lazy Sunday pottering around the house. Why not eh?

What’s your plans for today? Do let me know in the comments below if you’re up to anything exciting, or (like me) plan on spending it curled up on a sofa! As always, here’s a quick recap of this week’s fun features for those who may have missed out on all the action 🙂

Behind The Blog featuring Myra from The Plus Size Movement…

The Plus Size Movement

Howdy chums…

WHAT A DAY!!! Talk about nightmare Mondays… try breaking down miles from home at 7 am followed by a 5 hour wait in a freeeeeezing cold mechanics waiting room as my poor wee Florence (AKA my beloved Ford Focus) was slowly brought back to life with the help of a new alternator. Curse these mechanical gadgets that have nothing better to do than ruin my day! Thankfully I’m now fully thawed out & have a working car once again on my drive way *happy dance* If anything yesterday highlighted A) How much I take my little veee-hickle for granted, B) Car garage waiting rooms are a place of torture & grimness of immeasurable depths, C) WHO in their right frame of mind would electively want to make a career out of working with dirty cars in the freezing cold anyway? D) Actually, on hindsight, I’m incredibly grateful that folk out there do make that career choice… unsung hero’s the lot of them!

However, time for calmness & a steaming hot cuppa as I delight in introducing y’all to the gorgeous Myra, who’s kindly gracing the virtual sofa this nippy November morning, to give us a quick peek behind the scenes of her blog The Plus Size Movement. This curvacious beauty adores sharing posts about friends, lifestyle, body positivity & encouragement. One thing I love about Myra’s features is how incredibly genuine they are which gives such a warm & natural flow to her writing. It almost feels like you’re reading a letter from a friend or pen pal (anyone else remember the days of pen-pal letter writing?)

Anyways, enough gabbling from me; time to hand you over to the lady herself as we go Behind The Blog

Myra

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Honesty, body positivity, encouragement, motivation, personal experience

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I was looking for a blog that I can personally relate to but all the blog I kept finding had to do with either fashion or makeup. I’m plus size and I wanted to read about other plus size females and how they get through life. When I couldn’t find any blog like that, I decided to make a blog based on plus size but also body positivity and encouraging others to love who you are no matter the size. I wanted to touch on different topics and be honest about it.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

My blog name is The Plus Size Movement. I started thinking about how plus size and body positivity is becoming a current movement, thus the name. I loved the sound of it, it had a ring to it to me so I decided to use it.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

All the time!! Sometimes it is difficult trying to think of what should I write next. I overcome it by going into my thinking mode. I think of anything and everything that could possibly relate to my blog, I pick a thought and I run with it.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post to date is Validation to love yourself, it’s a poem about how we feel we need society’s approval to be beautiful.

http://wp.me/p5W8kT-2T

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

It definitely depends on how I am feeling for the day but my overall appearance is vintage inspired. I love vintage things so most of my clothes kind of look old fashion but modern. But I never fail to run to jeans and a t-shirt when I just want to be comfy.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My eyebrow makeup kit, my mascara, and my lipsticks.

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

After a stressful day, most of the time I will stay in my room and just listen to music and watch movies. Food is usually involved of course.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Well I am an introvert, that night life is not my life. My perfect Saturday night would be doing anything but going to the club. I like going out to eat, going to the movies, bowling, laser tag, go kart riding, I’ll even settle for a water balloon fight, I’m a kid at heart. But sometimes I do appreciate my alone time and would rather stay home and relax or have a nice conversation with a friend.

.

What do you do to relax?

I have different things I like to do to relax but my top ones are listening to music and writing. Both provide me that escape into my own world.

 .

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I avoid talking about my problems. When it comes to other people, I encourage them to talk and remind them I’m always here but when it comes to me, I just tell everyone that I am fine and I smile.  The people who really know me, can see through my act.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I guess my most cherished childhood memory would have to be the first time I got to go to Florida with my mom and sister. It was just something new and I loved it, but that is also how I found out I am terrified of planes.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

My favourite school subject was English. It had to do because of the fact that I love to write.

.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job will always be to be a journalist, to be a writer. It’s why I love blogging, it gives me that feeling, in a small way it’s like my dream came true. But I am currently working on becoming a substance abuse counsellor, that’s something I want to do also.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully married with a stable job and a family. I hope to generally be happy with myself and my life.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

I actually don’t have a bucket life. Well maybe I do but the only thing on my list is to go to Italy and to travel and experience different thing.s

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Graduating College with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology.  I was never more proud of myself than the day I crossed that stage.

.

Who inspires you?

No one really. I was never the one to look up to someone else and gather inspiration from them, I always did my own thing. I have respect for those people who are inspiring though.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I don’t have a favourite inspiration quote, but I love a lot of different quotes, it’s hard to pick one.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I would say just do it and keep going. If it is something that you feel will help you and help other’s, go for it and don’t stop. I’ve been blogging for a few months now and I love it. Even if my posts don’t reach the amount of audience I would like it to, I’m honestly happy just to have the couple views I get. Be interactive with other bloggers also, that really helps and you will make friends.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Coffee

Beautiful Star Electric Straightening Brush….

As most of you know my Achilles heel lies in finding a great bargain… specifically one that promises to banish any of my many flaws; frizzy hair included. So when my darling little sister (aka the enabler) introduced me to the Beautiful Star Electric Hair Straightening Brush that’s currently available from MAKS Blowdry Bar in Lisburn for just under £35 *gasps of disbelief* I was more than intrigued. Of course like any mortal being I simply couldn’t resist the temptation – and at the grand old age of 8, my current straighteners are indeed appliance pensioners & well beyond their hay day.

So in today’s video I thought I’d introduce y’all to my latest ‘me spree’ treat as I test out the highly acclaimed straightening brush on my own follicles. Fingers crossed the results reflect just how in demand this hair care appliance seems to be!

pink heart

How often do you use your hair straighteners? Is switching to an electric brush something you’d consider? Whatever your thoughts do let me know in the comments below. Hope you enjoy the video chums…

Behind The Blog featuring Life According To Jamie…

Life According To Jamie

Top O The Mornin Chums…

Firstly, I’d like to say a huuuuuge thank you to everyone for the utterly amazing support on yesterday’s blog post ‘10 Tips on Growing Your Blog Audience‘  You lovely bunch seem to really enjoy my blog tip features, but your response yesterday pretty much blew me away. One thing I absolutely adore about the blogging community is how encouraging and welcoming it is for bloggers of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Being able to share just a few little pearls of wisdom that have helped me along the way is such a treat – but having you guys rock my socks off with such fantastic feedback is almost beyond words. Many, many thanks to y’all ❤

Talking of super duper blog buddies, here’s a gal I’m thrilled to introduce you all too as the gorgeous Jamie joins us this morning for a peek behind the scenes of her ever blossoming blog, Life According To Jamie. Both Jamie & I have known each other through blogging for quite some time now & I have to say she’s a genuine gem… never fails to pop by for a quick chatter. Jamie regularly tops up her virtual haven with sprinklings of fashion, beauty, yummy food & general lifestyle shenanigans. If that sounds like your kinda hangout then take a trip over and say a huge hello… you won’t regret it 🙂

So grab your cuppa & nestle down for ten minutes as we get to meet the girl Behind the Blog

Jamie

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Fashion, style, beauty, food & entertainment

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I had thought about starting a blog for a while before finally creating one last year. Before starting my blog I didn’t follow or read a whole lot of blogs, but I watched (and still watch) a lot of YouTube. I didn’t particularly want to be in front of the video camera so blogging was more for me!  I wanted a creative outlet that allowed me to share my interests with others and so my blog was born.

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Coming up with a blog name was really hard. I knew I wanted something that incorporated my name in some way. Since my blog is essentially a lifestyle blog and covers a range of topics that are interesting to me and my life I decided to call it Life According to Jamie.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Luckily, I haven’t suffered from Blogger’s Block yet! I tend to have too many ideas so I have an ongoing running list of post ideas and a tentative posting schedule. It helps that there are certain things that I always write about such as a couple OOTD posts a week and every Friday is Photo Challenge Friday.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

I have so many blog posts that I really love, but I think one of my favorites is “How My Cardigan Saved My Life” because it’s a completely true account of a mishap and something I think a lot of us can relate to. What’s that saying about best laid plans? 🙂

 http://lifeaccordingtojamie.com/2014/10/29/how-my-cardigan-saved-my-life/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

My everyday clothes style really varies depending on what I’ll be doing. For work, I’m usually in dress pants and a blouse. In the summer (I’m a teacher), I’ll likely be in shorts and a loose top. Weekends during the school year usually consist of skinny jeans and a sweater.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

My current top 3 beauty items are:

Wet n Wild Brow Kit,

Lipstick Queen Saint Lipstick in the shade Pinky Nude,

&

Benefit’s Rockateur Blush

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to snack in front of the TV and catch up on shows on my DVR

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday night would be out with some good friends eating good food with some drinks and having some laughs.

.

What do you do to relax?

I find being with friends and family relaxing….most of the time. But I also like my alone time so I find watching a movie or reading relaxing. I’ve also just gotten into adult coloring books!

 .

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Hmm I would probably say procrastinating is my worst habit, though I’m a bit OCD about certain things and at a certain times so sometimes I get obsessive about something and it needs to be done right away or I just cannot deal.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I had a great childhood filled with great memories, but if I had to choose just one it would be one winter (somewhere between 1993-1995) when we had a blizzard. After all the snow had stopped the snow plows came and all the snow got pushed to the end of my dead-end street into a humongous pile. Seriously, the pile must’ve been at least 10 feet high. At the time there were a lot of kids my age on my street and we all came out with our snowsuits and sleds and spent the entire afternoon climbing up the pile and sledding down. It was the best!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

I loved English and history equally. English moreso for reading literature than writing essays and history I just still love to this day.

.

What’s your dream job?

I’ve actually been thinking about this quite a bit lately. My dream job would be an entertainment journalist. Not for a tabloid magazine but a legit one! You know those articles in Vogue or Vanity Fair where the reporter meets some star for lunch or something fabulous and writes some in-depth piece about the person? That would be the dream. Getting paid to hang out with a famous person and write about it? Let’s make this happen!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope in 5 years to be closer to my dream job and to be married and my own little family well on its way.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

In no particular order:

Get married

Have kids

See the Northern Lights

Have some sort of career that stems from my blog

Travel the world

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Getting my Masters Degree in Education and moving up to a more leadership role at work.

.

Who inspires you?

Anyone who sets out to achieve their dreams inspires me! But of people I personally know, my mom inspires me. She’s always doing things for other people just because and she has survived 2 different types of cancer. I aspire to be that selfless!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

A quote I recently came across and love is “We are mosaics  — pieces of light, love, history, stars – glued together with magic and music and words.” I love this quote because we really are made up of all the good, bad, happy and sad happenings in our lives and all these little pieces make us who we are.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Do it! There’s no harm in trying it out. The blogging community is so welcoming. It is a lot more work than many who don’t blog realize, but you just might find something you love to do and don’t mind putting the work in.

.

QUICK FIRE QUESTIONS:

Tea or Coffee = Coffee

Coke or Pepsi =  Coke

Messy mayhem or Super Organised = A mix. Some things I like super organized and some things are an organized chaos 🙂

Cute kitten or Playful puppy = Puppy

Lip Stick or Lip Gloss = Lip gloss

Rock Chick or Pop Princess = Pop Princess

Behind The Blog… featuring Valentina Sofia

Valentina Sofia

Goooooooood morning beauty buddies,

It’s been one heck of a week but I’m grasping onto the fact that in less than 24 hours yet another weekend shall be upon us *excited air punch* 5 am starts on these dark & chilly mornings is really taking it’s toll on my energy levels – not to mention my tired and dehydrated skin! I think it’s about time I re-evaluate my diet and stock up on a few super-hydrating balms, body creams & pick-me-up’s. Overall I’m determined to keep as healthy as can be so as not to spend another winter bunged up in bed – that’s pretty much been the story this past 3 years! What’s your top tips for keeping as healthy as can be now the colder weather’s creeping in? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

However onto today’s post as we have the gorrrrrgeous Valentina gracing the virtual sofa of sassiness this morning to give us a little peek behind her blog Valenina Sofia. I love this gals super-postive attitude and fabulously fun posts that feel like you’re catching up with an old friend than meeting a new one. If you haven’t already visited her blog then do your senses a favour by popping over and saying a huge hello. She’s incredibly welcoming & a total cosmetic craver just like the rest of us 😉

In the meantime, get your feet up & grab your cuppa as we go Behind The Blog

Valentina Sophia

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog?

Your friendly neighbourhood lipstick lesbian! In reality, it’s more like hauls, reviews and lots of lipstick!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

In all honesty, I’m not entirely sure. One day I decided I wanted to use an old WordPress account that I created for a class to be a personal blog where I talk about fashion, beauty and my life, but after my first haul post I was hooked on the world of beauty blogging and three months later (to the day!), here I am!

.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

It’s my first and middle name! I love my name and I love my names together, and with this as my blog name/URL, I could easily switch to a different type of blog if I wanted to… I probably never will though.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Not really, but also yes. Sometimes I can’t think of what to write about, but it’s never so much that my blog lies abandoned completely. Usually I come up with four or five different ideas for what I can write about, write them in a day or two, and schedule them for the next two weeks!

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

It was so hard to pick one, but I think my favorite one has to be my collab with Lucie, Lipstick Addicts Anonymous! We were both so excited to write about it and it’s such a clever title, plus it’s about my favorite thing — lipstick!

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

A little bit of everything! Lately, I’ve been really into midi skirts with shirts tucked into them but I also love wearing leggings with a flowy top or a skater skirt/crop top combo!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Another hard question! I’m going to have to go with my micellar water, my MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick and my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette!

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

If I have any in my stash, a face mask is always nice. Usually, I just catch up on blog posts, chat with Savannah, and watch Netflix!

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Either hanging out at a bar or someone’s apartment with my friends, going to a theme park (especially for some fireworks), or having an early night with some wine and Netflix!

.

What do you do to relax?

I love taking baths but since I live in Florida and it’s always so hot here, those are few and far in between. That being said, I still indulge every once in a while! I also love doing some yoga or just doing my nails and not thinking about anything.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Picking at the skin around my nails and picking at my nails! If I don’t have my nails painted, I’ll pick at it all day and my fingers end up looking like a mess.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I have a big Hispanic family so summers would be spent with all of us at our lake house in Chile and thinking about it just makes me so happy! We had a phase where we were all into Harry Potter and I remember us playing Quidditch with footballs, tennis balls and brooms between our legs!

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Usually English and when I was in high school, journalism!

.

What’s your dream job?

I’d love to work for a socially conscious and aware women’s magazine, somewhere I can write about feminism and women’s rights issues but also talk about makeup!

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Living in a big city and working somewhere that isn’t paying me minimum wage!

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Going to Europe, moving to a big city, getting married, having a family, and making enough money to support my makeup addiction!

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I recently celebrated my two year work anniversary at Universal Orlando, and it’s really weird to think about because I used to never be able to hold a job for more than a few months at a time!

.

Who inspires you?

It’s super cheesy, but definitely my mom! She’s always been there for me and she’ll always be my rock and my inspiration. And also, all of the beautiful bloggers I’ve met in this community! You’re all such wonderfully kind people and I love following everyone and reading about them, their lives, and their makeup!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I’ll be completely honest here: I had no idea where this quote was from and I had to google it! But the first thing to come into my mind was “She believed she could, so she did.” Apparently it’s from Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey. The more you know.

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Don’t conform to what you think a beauty blog is supposed to be like, and don’t shy away from making a blog if you’re not an expert at makeup! Your blog is what you make it and no one can tell you how to run it, what to write about, or what to do with it. This community is all about solidarity, about learning and learning together, and that’s what makes it so beautiful!

.

Happy 1st Blogiversary Confetti & Curves…

Happy Birthday Confetti And Curves

I can’t quite believe it’s been 1 whole year since I created my little online haven, Confetti & Curves. Over the course of this last year I’ve learned so much & met so many amazing people that have inspired me creatively & made my blogging journey such a memorable one.

Casting my mind back twelve months ago, I was in a very different place than I am today. As a few of you already know, I battle daily with OCD & GAD – two incredibly draining disorders that have the power to control, if not ruin, your life. It hasn’t been an easy ride I can assure you, but logging in every day to read an abundance of encouraging & supportive comments has been the driving force to keep me going – all the while enjoying every moment I spend writing, creating, photographing, planning, filming & just generally having fun chatting with you lovely lot.

I really don’t say this as often as I should but from the bottom of my heart thank you all so very very much for your support… and for coming along on this exciting journey with me! I’ve had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful mixture of exciting brands & pr teams, whilst continually building a small army of undoubtedly the best blog buddies & regular readers a girl could hope for.

So today I’m going to raise a rather full champagne glass *hiccup* and make a heartfelt virtual toast to every single one of my fantastic friends & readers across the globe for making Confetti & Curves the lively little corner of the interweb that it is. The impact blogging has made on my life has been the most worthy form of medicine. So thank you. Here’s to many more years of blogging bliss ahead… bottoms up chums *clink*

Mini Photo Studio

This was one of my very first crafty posts, and probably still one of my most successful! Having dived head first into the world of beauty blogging, a productive little space to photograph my lotions & potions became a necessity rather than a luxury. For anyone on a budget or simply looking for a fun but handy DIY project (that costs mere pennies to make) this is right up your street!

Celebrating With Wedding Ideas

Wedding Ideas

Having previously made a career in the wedding industry by owning two gorgeous bridal suites, Wedding Ideas was always one of my favourite bridal magazines. It’s never short of a wonderful range of creative and innovative suggestions for all tastes & budgets. Seeing my very own article feature with them was probably one of my most exciting personal highs to kick start 2015! *energetic air-punch*

From Tears to Triumph; Leah’s Weight-Loss Story

Leahs Story

Anyone who struggles with weight loss & adapting to a healthier lifestyle knows only too well how difficult the process of taking a healthier approach to life can be. However, when your health & well being depends on that change you’ve no other option than to boldy battle through. Watching my younger sister, Leah, completely turn her life around has been phenomenal. In this interview-style post she shares her own personal story on how she turned her weigh-in woes into ‘woo hoo’s’!

Confetti & Curves YouTube Launch

Pink YouTube

Never in a million years would I have ever imagined gathering up enough confidence to start my own YT channel. In my world, blogging was already a big enough stretch… in fact I even initally shied away from sharing it with close friends and family. However let it be known folks that I’m living proof miracles really do occur, and creating my 1st video was indeed one of those miracles. See just how much confidence you guys lavish upon me? Amazing 🙂

Helpful Resources for Budding Beauty Bloggers

Helpful Resources For Beauty Blogging

In theory there’s no right or wrong way to blog, if you love it you simply just do it. However, if your blogging with an audience of regular readers in mind there are a few tips & tricks that can be really useful to keeping your blog ticking over like a well oiled machine. In my case, I’ve learnt a lot by making a mound mountain of mistakes – there’s nothing quite like the journey of a steep learning curve! However, those bumps along the way have paved my own personal growth as a blogger. Being able to share what I’ve learned with others is just a simple way to give new bloggers a helping hand in avoiding the pitfalls such as bloggers block and crazy scheduling mishaps; this post pretty much catalogues some of my own helpful resources that might come in handy for others!

Once again, thank you all so very much for tagging along & making Confetti & Curves one of my most cherished projects to date. If anything, blogging has made me realise that no matter where we are in the world, what our cultural backgrounds are, size, shape or skin colour… a genuine passion for what we love doing pulls us all together to become the greatest of friends that have yet to meet.

Behind The Blog… featuring Taylor from Tay’s Life Unscripted

Tay's Life Unscripted

Hey Beauty Buddies

I hope y’all enjoyed yesterday’s post My Top 5 Beauty Finds Under £5…  which was a little reminder that we don’t need to spend an eye-watering amount on topping up our cosmetic collections, especially with drug stores shelves packed full of quality products that’s so easy on the purse strings! Yep, clarification ladies that we can all enjoy creating gorgeous new looks that won’t break the bank *energetic air punch*

However back to our usual fun filled Behind The Blog feature today as I have thee stunning Taylor (or Tay as she also likes to be known) joining me on the virtual sofa this morning for a peek behind the scenes of Tay’s Life Unscripted. As an avid YouTuber, Taylor is definitely the girl to keep up with as she treats us to a variety of beauty related shenanigans. If you’re on the look out for a super friendly gal that’s a total cosmetic craver (particularly of red lippies) then do be sure to pop over and say a huge hello!

For now though, it’s time to curl up on your comfiest chair as we get to know the girl Behind The Blog

Taylor

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Interesting content with some sass!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I began blogging in order to take my mind off of a very stressful job. It slowly began to become my escape from the hectic reality that was my life. My life slowly began to slow down, but I just couldn’t stop blogging then. I always say I caught the bloggin’ bug. J  I’ve formed a family away from my family online. I love and cherish each one of my online friends. Their blogs and sweet comments always make my day that much brighter.

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

When I first started my blog, I didn’t want to pen it with Taylor. I wanted something that sounded short and fun, hence where “Tay” came from. The “life unscripted” came about because I didn’t want to create a title for my blog that trapped in a corner content wise. If you name your blog “beauty with tay” or “cooking with tay” then people automatically assume that you’re a beauty or cooking blog.  I didn’t want that. “Tay’s Life Unscripted” gives me freedom to write about all the randomness that I choose, because I let you know right in the name that it’s unscripted. Lol.

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I suffer with Blogger’s Block on occasion. If that dreaded block strikes, then I simply sit and look around at all the items. I am found to find a blog topic lurking somewhere amongst all of my things.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite post to date has to be my Birthday Haul from last year. I was so overjoyed to try Lorac for the first time. Who would’ve thought that it began a huge LOVE for the brand. It was also my first BIG haul. I was so excited to finally have high end items that other YouTubers talked about all the time.

https://tayslifeunscripted.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/its-time-for-a-haul-birthday-edition/

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Classic. You will always find me in pearls and in a red lip. Sometimes you’ll even catch me in my red pumps…if your lucky. 😉

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Urban Decay Naked Foundation

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Lorac Pro 2

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I love to scroll through my reader on my WordPress app and on Bloglovin’. After that, I’ll usually relax on the couch and watch Big Bang Theory. I’ve almost memorized all the seasons. I might have an obsession. Lol.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday would be going to dinner with my closest friends, then strolling over to Ulta or Sephora. Sometimes we even do “normal” 20 year old things like hit up a bar.

.

What do you do to relax?

My favourite way to relax begins with a good pamper session. I put my favourite mask on then lay up on the couch to cuddle with my cat, Zazzles. And of course, I’m watching Big Bang Theory. I’ll finish up the night with a glass of wine and a bubble bath.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

My worst bad habit would be biting my nails. I can usually control myself, but every once in a while I get so nervous or bored that I just bite them.

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

My most cherished childhood memory would have to be cooking with my grandmother. She was an EXCELLENT cook. She refused to use anything from a can or box, so she taught me the old fashioned way to do everything.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

Science has always been my absolute favourite. I love learning about the way things work and the process behind what makes it work.

.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to be a corporate trainer in the multifamily industry. I love teaching and I LOVE this industry. The great thing about the trainer is that they get to travel a lot, but they get to come home every week. This would be a dream come true for me. Also, I want to have my own lipstick line one day. You know I had to throw that in there since I’m obsessed with red lipsticks.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself in the corporate office of a multifamily management company, whether it’s as a trainer or a regional.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Travel to the UK.

Travel to California

Travel to New York

Move to Atlanta

Take a Road Trip across the US

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement has been becoming an Assistant Property Manager at the age of 22. I didn’t realize it was so rare until I went to a business trip several weeks ago. I was the youngest assistant manager out of all of them.

.

Who inspires you?

All of my friends inspire me. They are the biggest encouragers in my life. They push me to do things I never thought I was capable of completing.

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“It’s the beautiful moments like this that make up for the ugly love.” –  Colleen Hoover

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I would choose a blog name that’s broad that way you can change up your content. Be consistent in blogging. Take good quality photos. Be genuine in your writing. Don’t feed people reviews that you think they want to hear.

.

The Perfect Tan?

DSC01017

Hey Beauty Buddies,

So as most of you already know, this summer I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect sun-kissed glow. Considering that our sunny skies have been very hit or miss this season, I’ve been trying an assortment of goodies from high end to bargain buys… so when the gorgeous PR team behind Lauren Goodger’s tanning range, Lauren’s Way, got in touch to ask if I would like the opportunity to try out a few of Lauren’s products I jumped at the chance. Could this really be the end of my search for achieving the perfectly bronzed body? Grab your cuppa, get comfy & let’s find out…

.

Firstly, let’s see what ‘Team Lauren’s Way’ have to say:

LAUREN GOODGER - Beauty shot

The grey skies and rainy days which so often feature in our summers – especially this one! – can leave us longing for sunshine, while summer fashion tends to mean exposed skin; but after months of grey skies, a natural tan to complement summer style can be difficult to come by. Enter tan queen and TOWIE star Lauren Goodger, who has now launched her LW Tan range here in Ireland//Northern Ireland – and beauty aficionados are loving the shades, the smooth finish and the scent of her affordable but effective product range.

The team at LW TAN has developed a shade for everyone with a go-to guide for first timers and experienced tanners alike. Many people are often confused over which shade is best suited to their skin tone, but Lauren explains:

“Our LW Medium range is perfect for first-time tanners or fair skin. If you’re nervous about trying tanning, then this is the shade for you. Products in our Medium range include: MEDIUM BRONZING LOTION; MEDIUM BRONZING MOUSSE; INSTANT WASH OFF GLOW and GRADUAL TAN.

.

“Our LW Dark range is perfect for medium/dark skin tones as this will leave you with an instant, bronzed glow – adding glamour to any look. We carry products such as DARK BRONZING LOTION and DARK GLAM TAN in this range. Not forgetting our LW MAN TAN too.

.

“Our LW ‘Darker Than Dark’ range is ideal for olive/dark skin tones, providing instant colour and leaving a deep, bronzed, intense colour after just one application. Our products in this range include DARKER THAN DARK BRONZING LOTION; BRONZING MOUSSE and DARKER THAN DARK GLAM TAN.

.

“Our NEW RAPID LW Solution 60 range is suitable for all skin tones, the light and hydrating solution leaves a holiday looking tan that develops within only 1-3 hours! No more waiting 8 hours for that luscious, luxurious tan you’ve always wanted. Available in both SOLUTION 60 BRONZING SPRAY and MOUSSE, Solution 60 is paraben free and specially formulated with tanning agent dihydroxyacetone to speed up the tanning process providing flawless coverage and a sun-kissed colour which is suitable for all skin tones and which lasts up to five days.

“Like all our products, it is infused with citrus and fruit extracts for a gorgeously fresh aroma. It’s the perfect tan for last minute parties and those who don’t have the time to wait for their tan to develop.”

.

Lauren also advises that for a streak-free application with all tan products, the LW BODY POLISH should be used prior to application to buff away dead skin. The tan products should ideally be applied with a LW TANNING MITT, and to maintain a golden and fresh colour, the LW TAN ENHANCING MOISTURISER can also be massaged into the skin daily. All LW products are long-lasting, luxuriously hydrating as well as being quick and easy to apply, plus the colour guide allows you to see exactly where you are applying it. Simple!

The Review

It’s quite an extensive range wouldn’t you say? Of course considering that my skin is bordering on translucent, I’m always a teeny bit apprehensive that I’ll end up looking obvious, blotchy and totally unnatural. However since I was sampling the Laurens Way  Solution 60 Mousse I’d have to wait at least an hour to see the final results after rinsing off. So using a clean tanning mitt & a whole lotta faith I got to work:

LW collage

I’ll admit the colour didn’t necessarily calm my nerves – if anything when I applied it I was convinced that it was far too dark but holding out hope I left it for a full hour as the guidelines recommend. On rinsing the result was INCREDIBLE. No nasty biscuit smell, no streaks, no lines, no obvious looking unsightly patches – just a beautiful radiant glow. My skin feels super soft with a hint of a sweet citrus smelling aroma. I am hooked.

Awaking the next morning the tan hadn’t faded, streaked or in any way looked patchy – just that same beautiful glow. I also noticed that it blended in beautifully over my hands… an area that always seems to be the first obvious sign of false tanning. In this instance there was no obvious lines or splodges – just an even sun kissed colour.

Of course the ultimate question is: would I re-purchase or recommend the Laurens Way Solution 60 Mousse? Hmm, lets look at the evidence before making a final decision…

Cons

A little higher priced than other ranges at £19.95 per bottle.

For those with little patience (or on a busy schedule) waiting (at least) an hour for the tan to develop is obviously more lengthy than an instant option. But ladies… it’s WELL worth the wait as the results are amazing.

Pros

Super easy to apply.

Very quick drying.

The citrus scent is beautiful.

The result is completely controllable… the longer you leave it the deeper it gets.

No dry patches, nasty streaks or obvious blotches – just a smooth natural glow.

Skin feels super soft.

Incredibly natural looking – even for the fairest of skin tones.

Totally mess free & easy to apply.

Like I said above, it may be a tad more pricey but rest assured it’s worth every penny for the finish & condition it leaves your skin – plus it’s a sizeable 150 ml bottle & a little goes a loooong way!

& not surprisingly…

It’s a finalist in the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2015!

.

So the answer to the above question is a resounding YES, I’ll most certainly be highly recommending the Lauren’s Way Solution 60 Mousse and will definitely re-purchase. I’ve finally found a tanning solution that actually works for my skin and ticks all my major wants in a tanning solution.

Lauren, I was running out of hope in finding a natural, build-able tan that would work with my pale complexion without that nasty biscuit smell… you’ve created a winner that even us pale beauties can enjoy. I love it!

Check out the Lauren’s Way website for more info on all the range & how to purchase 🙂

pink heart

Have you tried anything form the Laurens Way range? What’s your thoughts on tanning lotions or mousses? I love to read your feedback in the comments below so don’t forget to stop by and say a quick hello!

Have a great weekend – cheerio chums…
