DIY Make-up Brush Holder

DIY Make-up Brush Holder

Happy Monday Lovelies,

I’ve been rolling up my sleeves this weekend and getting a little crafty – of course for those of you who know me, you’ll know I’m a fan of plundering through my craft drawers for inspiration on what nifty little DIY project to tackle next. However this one is a little more useful than normal, you see for Christmas my (incredibly thoughtful) hubby treated me to a gorgeous set of Nic’s Picks Real Techniques Make-up Brushes… that I must admit I fell in-love with the moment they skimmed my foundation clad complexion. So considering my brush collection is beginning to flourish, it became clear last week in one of my infamous ‘mid morning grumps’ that I needed a new home in which to display my bristly beauties – cue the DIY Make-up brusher holder.

You sitting comfy? Okay, let’s get to it:

What you’ll need:

 Brush holder1

An empty Jar

Washi Tape

Glass beads (optional)

Ribbon/trim (optional)

Scissors

A steady hand (not so optional!)

Here’s how to do it:

  • As luck would have it, I’d just used up a large mango candle a few weeks ago and kept the jar knowing it would come in rather handy for something at a later stage. Thankfully the wax was ridiculously easy to remove by scooping it out, however if a few little traces remain on the inside of the jar simply rinse out with hot water (don’t use boiling water or you could crack the glass) Voila, one clean & very naked brush holder…

Empty Jar

  • If the jar has a glass seam to it then make that your starting point! Turn the jar upside down and place one end of the Washi tape on the seam, then gently & steadily run the tape along the jar until you have one complete layer. Once you’ve reached the same seam you started at, cut the tape neatly with scissors and affix.

Brush holder2

  • Keep repeating with various coloured layers, the more the merrier in my humble opinion!

Brush holder3

  • Once your layers are complete it’s time to add your finishing touches… I opted for some purple ribbon a butterfly & a button. Remember it’s your jar so you can be as creative or innovative as you like!

Butterfly & button

  • If you’d prefer your brushes to stand up-right you can add some little glass beads – just make sure they’re smooth enough to not scratch or mark the handles of your brushes, otherwise you can leave it empty just like I did!

DIY Brush holder

So there you have it beauty buddies, a cute little home to hold your favourite cosmetic brushes that’s easy peasy to make in less than ten minutes! What do you think? Is this something you’d try? As always do say hi and let me know how you store your beauty brushes in the comments below!

*10 Steps To Make Your Wardrobe Update Easy Peasy

Hello lovelies,

Happy Monday! I hope you’ve all had a fabulous weekend? I’m mega excited with today’s feature as the gorgeous crew from LookBook Store guest post by offering their top tips on updating your fashion essentials for the new season! Time to sit back, relax and discover how you can organise your upcoming wardrobe essentials…

Wardrobe Update

With the changing of the season comes the need to update our capsule closet must have’s. Yes, you’ve read it right, so let’s take these simple steps on how update your wardrobe this season:

Step # 1. Take an assessment of your existing wardrobe

wardrobe2

Nope. I’m definitely not talking about school assessment. But the very first thing to do before updating your wardrobe is to assess the clothes that you already have. You might have one or two pieces on your closet that you’ve completely forgotten. Believe me, assessing your wardrobe might be a little tiring on your part but it’s so worth the effort.

Another thing about assessing your closet is you’ll have a time to reorganize your clothes!! This can also help determine what colours you need to update your winter wardrobe or what fashion failures you’ve stashed away at the back!

Step # 2. Mix and match

A single piece of clothing can be a lieutenant to an army of fashionable outfits. The best example for this is a simple white top.

White Top LookBook Store

White Lace Top

For instance, a simple white top can be fabulous by adding a chunky cardigan.

Or pair it with some jeans for a more casual look. And for a business-casual ensemble, take it up a notch by adding a coat and blazer.

Fit n Flare Blazer LookBook Store

You can also pair your white tee with a pencil skirt for an office look.

Woolen Pencil Skirt

Faux Woolen Pencil Skirt

Or, wear it with some leggings for a funky street style.

Check Mate

There is absolutely NO fashion limit for a white tee.

Step # 3. Create your own personal look book

Take some photos of your new outfits to keep track of your clothes. Not to mention, taking pictures of your outfits can help you figure out which ones can be paired to create different ensembles. Plus, you can experiment with your picture perfect angle.

Step # 4. Add a belt

You might haven’t realized it yet but a great belt can be a thin line between dull and fab. So it makes total sense to buy a good quality belt this season such as this one…

 Smooth Plate Stretch Waist Belt

Step # 5. Statement Accessory

What’s nice about statement accessories is that it can work well with casual jeans, and they can give an oomph to your office outfits too!

 Sweet Braided Necklace

Sweet Braided Necklaces

Step # 6. Patterns

Never be afraid to wear patterns this season

 Geo Patterened Sweater LookBook Store

Step # 7. Leggings under dresses and skirts

Add a more playful feel to your dresses and skirts by wearing leggings underneath… it’s also a great way to stay cosy on those chilly days!

Step # 8. Add a vest

A faux fur vest adds sophistication to any of your outfits by giving that sassy rock-chick look.

Step # 9. Add a blazer

Blazers are by far one of the most versatile pieces you can ever own. They’re casual-, cocktail-, work-, school-, and date-friendly.

Step # 10. Sweater

Aside from sweaters being perfect for these cooler months, another reason I love sweaters is because they can be paired with skirts, shorts, pants —  whatever!

My Friday Night Fav’s…

My Friday Night Fav's

Hello lovelies…

It’s the weeeeeekend *happy dance* Oddly enough, for someone who works from home there’s still something unique about Fridays (even if all the other days often mull into one) it just has that fuzzy exciting feeling… the entire human race seems in such a cheery mood with everyone wishing each other a happy weekend as they prepare to spend two glorious days wrapped up in a duvet with no alarm set *aaahh bliss* whilst those of us with kids are just so darn thankful to get a break from the damp & grizzly school runs.

However, Friday night is what I reeeeally look forward to! It’s that one night of the week I close the laptop, turn off my phone, light every candle I possess and spend a solitary night of catching up with ME – and this Friday night is no exception! So to kick start the weekend here’s a few of my Friday night favourites that have somehow evolved into an essential weekly ritual…

1) BRING ON THE BUBBLES

Honeymania Body Shop

First things first… I run a huge hot steaming bath! Every other day of the week a quick shower is perfect but Friday nights are for lying back in a tantalizing tub filled with my most special lotions and potions. I’m loving this Honeymania Bubble Bath Melt from The Body Shop. Just drizzle in for oodles of creamy bubbles that smell utterly amazing. Pure indulgence.

2) PAMPER THOSE PORES

creamy-coconut-large_1

After a good long soak in my honey infused bubbles it’s time to chillax with a little facial treat to pamper the pores. My skin usually takes quite a blattering this time of year with living right beside the sea, so it’s nice to treat my face to something that little extra special even if it is just once a week! Try out this gorgeous Creamy Coconut face mask by Montagne Jeunesse – it’s an absolute bargain at a mere £1 (currently available from Boots) and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth.

3) CURL UP IN STYLE

Evans Pyjamas

My next step is slipping into the comfiest pair of PJ’s & fluffy slipper socks I can find! I recently spotted this adorable BEE MINE Pyjama set from Evans, which I’ve promised myself as soon as pay-day arrives. Who can resist wearing such charming little bumble bee’s? Certainly not I. Great news for all my fellow curvy chums – they’re also available up to a size 32! *yippee*

 4) SHOW TIME

The Notebook

Once snuggled up on the couch it’s time to settle down with a girly DVD. My favourite one a the moment has to be The Notebook… it’s just one of those movies I never seem to tire of watching. Okay, I admit, Mr Gosling may have something to do with it – but screen hotties aside, it’s such a amazing story that has me clutching firmly onto my Kleenex from the opening scene. I’m pretty sure us gals measure the success of a movie in how many tears we shed. If by some random chance you haven’t seen it yet (where the heck have you been?!) clear the schedule and watch it… just remember to remove all traces of mascara beforehand to avoid resembling Alice Cooper.

5) THE MUNCHIES

Popcorn

Of course no Friday night movie marathon would be complete without the obligatory munchies and seeing as I’m *trying* to be a tad healthier in 2015 I’m sticking to lighter snacks such as popcorn and freshly squeezed juices with my new fruit blender – which I must say is working a treat ladies, if you don’t posses one you absolutely must!! The smoothies are aaaamazingggg…

 pink heart

Are you a Friday night recluse who loves to hibernate and catch up with some ‘me’ time? If so, how do you unwind? As always I love reading your thoughts & feedback in the comments below so do take a moment to say a hi! Wishing you all a fabulous Friday night 🙂

My Christmas Eve Essentials…

Christmas eve essentials

There’s always something different about the atmosphere come Christmas Eve, it’s that electrical charge of excitement that leaves us full to the brim of holiday hype and hope. I love it! Yet in the midst of all the extra energy I seem to hit a point where I need to slow down and savour the moment. So to help relax and get my festive feelings in order here’s a few of the little treats and essentials I look forward too on one of the most magical nights of the year…

Pamper Hamper

Whilst everyone else is busy with last minute wrapping and preparations I find it the perfect opportunity to catch my breath for an hour after a busy few weeks preparing for Santa’s visit, not to mention the wave of jolly relatives that will descend upon me for plates full of turkey and stuffing the following day. Taking that little breather the night before helps to recharge my batteries and leaves me feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to party!
This gorgeous set from Soap & Glory has everything a girl needs to look and smell delicious, including: Clean On Me shower gel, Heel Genius foot cream, Hand Food hand cream, The Scrub Of Your Life body scrub, The Righteous Butter body butter, Glad Hair Day shampoo & a super smoothing Body Polisher! Best of all it comes in a cute bag and is a catch at only £18 from Boots. Check it out online or get yourself down to your nearest store pronto ladies!

Festive Tunes

Of course whilst I’m plucking & preening myself it’s essential I have something festive to keep my spirits well and truly in the Christmas mood. However this isn’t a time for screaming Wizards or festive floor fillers, this is a time for chilled out merriment… and who else’s yummy crooning vocals could woo me better than Mr Buble’s Christmas album of course!
If you haven’t got your little Christmas mitts on a copy where have you been? He’s well worth the investment especially if you’re a fan of those timeless Christmas classics sung by the likes of Bing Crosby & co. It’s full of gooey goodness that makes my heart melt *sighhhh + grin*

Pyjamas

I’m almost thinking it’s a mandatory requirement that everyone should be slipping into a fresh new pair of cosy pj’s on Christmas Eve! There is no better feeling after your little pamper session than snuggling up in a cosy pair of cute pyjamas and toasty slipper socks! I found this cute pair of robin pj’s on TJ Hughes website for only £9.99, what do you think? Personally I’m in love with them!

Christmas movies

I could literally pick a dozen of my favourites and still not be done, however seeing as our little girl is always tickled with Elf I’ll have to recommend it on Emma’s behalf! Honestly, this fun Christmas film has adults & kids tee-heeing with laughter at the awesome Will Ferral who plays an Elf trying to make his way in the big city… if you haven’t watched it make it top of your movie play list!
However there is one other sentimental addition I simply have to mention… Santa Claus the Movie. Yep it’s an oldie but as a kid this was the ultimate Christmas flick my sister and I watched every year before totting off to bed and hoping that we’d been good enough all year to justify a visit from Santa. It brings back a flood of amazing memories that make me smile so much.

Candles

Most of you know only too well that I have a slight obsession for candles any time of the year but when it’s Christmas and all those gorgeous cinnamon scents hit our high street I’m in a festive frenzy loading my shopping basket full of yummy yuletide wafts… and this weekend is no exception as I’ll be taking a trip to my local Yankee Candle store to pick up a their amazing Christmas Eve candle *swoon* Have you smelt it yet? It is divine! What better way is there to create an authentic scent-sational ambience?

Hot Chocolate

I don’t believe it’s officially Christmas Eve in the Rees household unless you’re holding a huge cup of hot chocolate with marsh mallows and whipped cream on top. Okay, so it’s not going to do the waistline any favours but who blooming gives a toot?  Tis the season to relish in a few extra treats including popcorn, gingerbread men and yummy bowls of little savoury tasties. You can tell what the New Years Resolution’s going to be this year again right? *rolls eyes*

Ps: Pop a little peppermint candy in your hot chocolate to give it a mild minty taste… it’s too yum for words!

The Stockings

Finally as the night draws to an end and you prepare to tuck yourself into bed, don’t forget to hang your stocking & leave out a few extra treats… after all it’s been a busy season for Santa & his elves, running around department stores searching for your favourite MAC lippies & must have eye shadow palettes (well, fingers crossed eh girls?)

Holly

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas Eve? As always I love a good chatter so do say hi & leave your jolly thoughts in the comments below!

*Get Minted…

Minted

Hello lovelies…

I don’t know about you guys, but being surrounded by Christmas decorations, fairy lights and fireplaces peppered with jolly little snow men ornaments really makes you take in your surroundings a whole lot more than normal, don’t you think? There’s so many exciting things to look at. In fact every shop I go into or house window I pass by my eyes are drawn to a festive focal point by something or other.

I think that’s why I adore having features in a room to study and be captured by – regardless of what season of the year it is. My eyes seem to just love something to keep them busy! This is why I often feel a little gloomy when in January I pack all the Christmas trimmings away for an entire year… only then does everything seems so bare.

So this weekend I thought I’d mull over some options for jazzing a few off my rooms up with some unique wall art & pretty prints… and of course what better place to browse an entire range of wall feasts and other delectable goodies than Minted.com

‘Oooh, what’s Minted?’ I hear you say!

Well, Minted is a thriving on-line community of independent artists… from illustrators, painters, package designers to stay at home mums. It’s a global community full of creative content, selling a unique range of art, home décor and stationary items delivered direct to your door. That’s right… you don’t have to leave the confines of your cosy abode this winter to dress up the walls of your dining room. Just a few clicks of a button and voila, your goodies are on their way. Sounds like my kinda shopping *peering out at a rather gloomy sky*

Anyways, I thought I’d share a just few of my favourite Minted finds with you…

April Showers by Olivia Raufman

April Showers by Olivia Raufman

I loved this gorgeous raindrop print by Olivia Raufman. Our living room has very similar colour schemes within the flooring, carpet, & a feature wall. I can really see this piece pulling all those gorgeous colours together incredibly well!

Life Is Sweet by Ana Sharpe

Life Is Sweet by Ana Sharpe

I adore this print by Ana Sharpe – as soon as I spotted it I knew it would brighten up the dining area in my kitchen perfectly. Plus who doesn’t love Macaroons?! *swoon*

On the Docks by Kirby Lee Smith

On the Docks by Kirby Lee Smith

Living beside the sea I’m obsessed with anything nautical or beach themed. My house is full of little jars of interesting pebbles and shells we’ve collected over the last few years, which I love! When I spotted this gorgeous piece by Kirby Lee Smith I knew it would perfect in my hall way as it’s got a very similar theme at the moment.

Eucalyptus by Kiana Mosley

Eucalyptus by Kiana Mosley

My bedroom has lots of purples (and as I’m sure you can tell from previous posts it’s one of my favourite colours) so when I spotted this amazing piece by Kiana Mosley I knew it would go perfect in my purple themed bedroom as a feature piece to catch the eye as soon as you walk in. I love the huge shade range… from soft lilacs to an intense blackcurrants. Super stunning, don’t you agree?

Wisdom by Griffinbell Paper Co

Wisdom by Griffinbell Paper Co

Of course as most of you know only too well, I have a rather unhealthy obsession with owls. They’re (almost) everywhere throughout my home, so when I spotted this rather striking cutie by Griffinbell Paper Co, I knew he’d be the perfect partner for jazzing up my work area… it’s also a little reminder of the one thing I need more off!! *hahaa*

So, what do y’all think of my top picks, do you like? If so, let me know which one is your favourite… as always I love reading your thoughts and feedback in the comments below!

6: To say I’m a fan of the Michael Kors tote range is a bit of an understatement – I don’t think there’s one I haven’t fallen for yet. However, this exquisite pale gold bag is well towards becoming my new MK favourite. Classy, stylish and sporting lots of room for your essential tote-bag goodies what’s not to love? Create the perfect sultry look for your night out with this delicious array of 12 bronze, eye-bedazzling shades. Check it out for yourself  right here at Feel Unique

The Nibbles

This time of year restaurants are often alive with corporate parties & family get-togethers, so even though your favourite little haunt may seem like a pretty safe choice it’s best to call and pre-book well before your big night out… simply to avoid a two hour wait in a chilly winter queue just to get your bum on a seat.

As most work parties tend to book hotels and traditional restaurants for their Christmas dins, it could be a good idea to branch out and try Cantonese, Indian or Italian food as there’s less chance they’ll be hiving with half drunken CEO’s… and of course so you don’t end up tired of Turkey before Santa’s even had a chance to pack his sleigh! Alternatively, if you’re keeping a watchful eye on the purse strings why not opt for dinner at home or a cheeky take away delivered to your door before hitting the town; this is always a good option for those who take multiple hours to get ready! *whistles innocently*

The Drinks

If like me you’re a hopeless case for a hangover, my advice would be to line that tummy with dinner before popping your corks so there’s something to help soak up the potential effects. Without sounding like an ageing party-pooper;  mixing a multitude of shots may seem like a barrel of fun, but keep in mind it’s more than likely going to end in a rather painful duvet-day the following morning. Who hasn’t seen the Sunday social media news-feeds filled with tales of woe and promises of never to so much as sniff a cork again?! My point exactly 😉

If you’re on the look out for something light and refreshing I’d personally suggest these yummy little fruity spritzer style drinks (pictured above) called West Coast Coolers. Here in N. Ireland they’re incredibly popular, my favourite has to be the Original, however the Rose is amazing too. So if you’re looking for a light seasonal tipple to sip, I’d highly recommend you give these a go. Just remember to enjoy responsibly!

The Entertainment

Organising a night out takes a fair amount of planning – especially if there’s quite a few of you in tow. As much as I love dancing the night away, sometimes it’s fun to do something a little different; and come the festive season there’s just so much choice on offer. A few unique and fun ideas could be to catch a theatre show or musical, better still why not embrace your inner kiddie and opt for a pantomime instead? They’re full of cheesy Christmas cheer to get the giggles going, leaving the serious chatter for cocktails and dinner at a swanky venue afterwards. Alternatively if you’re feeling brave enough to embrace the cold winter weather then why not opt for some late night shopping at a local Christmas market? It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up some really unique little gifts and stocking fillers!

Don't Forget

It’s one of the busiest seasons of the year, so if transport is top of your priority list make sure you book your taxi’s well in advance to avoid being stranded at your door step. Same applies for eating out too!
Keep wrapped up warm with a stylishly snug scarf & hat set to avoid being landed with any winter colds or sniffles if you’re out & about. Do keep a tight hold of your hand bag or purse wherever you go… a bustling night on the town is a pick-pockets dream particularly if you’re planning some late night shopping or Christmas fairs with chums.

Try to carry as little cash as possible, make sure your abode is well secured before leaving for the evening and keep any pricey items such as laptops etc tucked well out of sight! Of course last but not least have fun, enjoy your night out & don’t forget the reason for the season guys 😉

Do you have any up-coming fun nights out planned? What’s your top tip when organising an evening out on the town with friends? Or are you more of a cosy night-in kinda gal? As always I love reading your thoughts and feedback in the comments below…

Cute Christmas Decor For Your Crib…

Cute Christmas Decor

Having spent most of last Sunday covered in glitter from putting up the Christmas tree and all the festive trimmings that come with it, my little home now looks like the inside of Santa’s grotto. However the desk I work from upstairs seemed to be looking a bit too bleak for my liking, but without wanting to spend a small fortune dazzling it up with Christmas goodies I decided to set myself a small budget and spruce up my little workspace with a few festive treats that don’t burn too much of a hole in the pocket…

Fairy Light Fever:

Having first spotted these in the aisles of Primark, I was pretty shocked to discover they were a mere £1.50… what a bargain! Last year I bought a set from Ikea which were considerably more pricey, although the light is quite a harsh white tone so I’m just not as keen. These ones however omit a lovely warm glow that makes the perfect backdrop for photo’s or just to cheer up your work space.

Fairy Lights

Candles Gallore:

You all know by now how much I blooming adore my little scented candles and after finding these pretty gold & purple holders in Ikea I just had to bring them home with me! The gold ones were £2 each and the purple one (I’m pretty sure) was only £1. I also spotted a bag of 100 Glimma tea lights for £1.75, they last approx 4 hours constant burning and are undoubtedly the best for value out of all the ones I’ve tried yet!

 Ikea Candle Holders

Merry Material:

I’ve been hoarding felt squares in my material box for the last couple of years, so I thought it was high time I put them to good use. These fun festive fancies are so darn easy to make too; it’s simply a matter of cutting out your shapes and sewing or stitching them together, alternatively you could use material glue – just don’t forget to stuff em’ before you seal otherwise they’ll end up looking a tad skinny. I opted for making a cheery little robin & traditional Christmas pudding. Cute eh?

Handmade Christmas Decorations

The Empty Pickle Jar:

When I spotted this empty gherkin jar lurking on top of my kitchen counter I knew he had a greater destiny in life than simply ending up in the recycling heap. After digging out my glass paints, I decided to give it a colourful lease of life by up-cycling him as a unique little candle accessory. One can never have too many tea light holders right? 😉 You can buy glass paints from any good craft store. I use Pebeo Vitrea pots as the colours are so vivid & glossy. Alternatively E-bay is full of great starter sets from as little as £5 or you could opt for glass paint markers which are super easy to use!

Glass Painted Pickle Jar

Twinkling Twigs:

At this time of year my garden is awash with leaves, twigs and lots of other green fingered paraphernalia, so why not put some of it to good use? After gathering, clean & dry your chosen sticks (or twigs if you make a mini version – your empty gherkin jar could be ideal for this) then spray with either gold or silver paint and dust with glitter (optional, but looks super pretty)

Once dry you can display them in any vase or jar you like, as mine was see through I used some pretty pebbles to add some detail & keep the sticks supported … voila, your own glittering twig display!

Don’t forget you can also interweave some fairy lights through them to create some extra twinkle… they really help emphasise the sparkle in the glitter.

Twinkle Twigs

The Mini Tree:

Last but not least, what Christmas space would be complete without a teeny tiny tree? I spotted this one in a local discount shop for £1 and just couldn’t resist! They also had lots of multi coloured battery lights that work a treat in helping to make it that little bit more cheery. He’s rather adorable wouldn’t you say?

 Christmas Tree

So there you have it, my way of adding a sprinkle of festive cheer to any work or living space without costing a fortune… in fact I spent well under £15 for the whole lot. Not bad eh?

Christmas Decor

Have you added any mini decorations to help cheer up your crib? Or maybe you have a few merry little tips of your own to share? As always, I love reading your thoughts & feedback in the comments below! Til next time…
