Bourjois Smokey Stories Quad Palette…

bourjois-smokey-stories-over-rose-review

Howdy Beauty Buddies…

I think I may have a slight addiction to Bourjois. Looking back on my posts over the last few months (and at the stash of goodies I’m yet to review) Bourjois seems to crop up time & time again. Maybe it’s the chic packaging, the sexy French pronunciation 😉 or possibly that their products lure me in with a beautiful range of colour options. Either way, I’m having a Bourjois phase right now and I’m hoping the Smokey Stories Quad Palette in ‘Over Rose’ doesn’t disappoint. If you fancy taking a quick peek at my recent ‘Autumn Inspired BOOTS Beauty Haul’ then *Click Here*

Sitting comfy? Then let’s take a closer inspection…

.

What Bourjois Say…

bourjois-smokey-stories-3

“Prime, shadow, define and highlight the eyes with Bourjois Quad Smokey Stories eyeshadow. Each palette has 4 complimentary shades that blend effortlessly together to create the perfect smoky eye.

And what’s more, the lightest shade has an integrated base primer to prolong colour for 12hr hold.

Available in 8 smouldering shades.”

.

Let’s Talk Packaging…

bourjois-smokey-stories

It’s chic simple and pretty. Okay so it’s plastic and probably not going to win any innovation awards for product styling but all-in-all it looks rather pretty in my shadow collection – though it does feel like it could be easily damaged  so handle with caution gals. As usual, it comes with a teeny double-ended sponge tip applicator – which if truth be told usually ends up in the bin as I find them rather useless however they are rather handy when you’re topping up your peepers on a night out.

.

The Smokey Eye Masterclass…

Another cute little feature (which is great for those that aren’t too confident when it comes to shadow placement) is what Bourjois refer to as ‘The Smokey Eye Masterclass‘ – 4 simple steps to keeping you right when applying your shades correctly. You can even pop onto the Bourjois website and watch a tutorial if visual tips are more your thing…

1. PRIME with the lightest shade: apply over entire eyelid to prolong colour

2. SHADOW with the medium shade: blend into the outer corner of the eye

3. DEFINE with the darkest shade: trace along the upper lash line and sweep into the socket

4. HIGHLIGHT with the glitter: lightly dab onto the inner corner of the eye and under the brow bone to illuminate the eye

.

What About The Formula…

bourjois-smokey-stories-2

I must admit all shades are incredibly creamy and silky to touch – even the primer (the lightest shade) is really lovely and feels no different to the colours. According to Bourjois, it stays put for 12 hours and I have to say it’s really impressed me as it was on for a solid 10 hours with me and only faded slightly under the eyes where I applied the darker shade to ‘smoke it out’ a little. Fall-out is surprisingly minimal with the coloured shades, however, the sparkly highlighter/illuminator in the centre of the palette is quite messy so if you’re not a huge fan of shimmer approach with caution as a little goes a long way. The finish of the shadows sits somewhere between a matte and a shimmer so it really is a very happy medium!

.

Pro’s…

Available in 8 quad shades so a decent range of colour choice

Beautiful buttery feel to the formula

£7.99 – a great price for quality shadows that last a good length of time

Available in a range of drug stores

Small and compact to pop in your handbag

Applicator is of a decent quality (compared to some)

Mini online tutorial to help keep you on top of your application

.

Cons…

Packaging is a little flimsy and cheap

The pans of the shadows would benefit from a lip/frame to stop colours blending into each other inside the palette

Highlighter shade has masses of fall out – if only it was as creamy as the shades!

.

Final Thoughts…

bourjois-smokey-stories-review

bourjois-smokey-stories-review-2

Overall I’m reeeeeeally impressed with this cute little compact. The colours are incredibly easy to blend, very creamy and surprisingly long lasting. For £7.99 it’s definitely a winner in my books! *Click Here* to check it out via Boots online store.

Websites For Free Makeup & Beauty Samples….

Free and Luxury Sample Makeup And Beauty Websites

If you’re as obsessed about beauty (and blogging) as I am, you’ll know only too well how long your wish list is and how expensive sampling new products can be when you’re loading a shopping basket in your favourite makeup store – not all of us have the cosmetic budget of Kim Kardashian *sob*

One question I get asked pretty frequently, particularly from new bloggers, usually evolves around approaching brands to review samples which can be especially daunting when you’re working hard on building a community of regular readers. However both consumers and bloggers are using dedicated websites to request free samples more than ever before – okay, so for some freebies you may have to answer questionnaires etc but if you’re eager to try something for zero spend then surely it’s worth a few minutes of your time?

Alternatively there are ‘Luxury Sample’ sites where you can purchase a range of high end creams, lotions and potions that you’ve been wanting to try before taking a risk spending £££’s on the full size product – and potentially not liking it as much as you hoped! First Impressions: The L’Oreal Brow Artist Kit…

There’s absolutely no denying it – I’m a sucker for a decent eye product. So of course after spotting a recent TV commercial for the L’Oreal Brow Artist Kit, I took to the interwebs to sniff out a little more info. Needless to say I was hit with a full 5 Star rating on the Boots website out of 80 reviewers – that’s not too shabby I must say.

Naturally my interest peaked further and so with mucho excitement I trawled myself around a number of stores to find this much raved about little kit. Thankfully store number 3 had the very last one in my colour *happy sigh* – as you can imagine I almost skipped to the counter (well, hobbled in a happy way) to part with my cash and bring home my new brow baby.

So how did it stack up to the glowing reviews? Was it really worth the £9.99? I guess you’ll have to push play and find out ladies 😉 Talking of which, thank you sooooo very much to my new subscribers for stopping by – I’m over the moon you guys choose to hang around & watch my chatters. Don’t forget, if you haven’t done so already you can *Click Here* to subscribe so you never miss a future upload!

Hope you enjoy the first impressions gals, it was great to finally dust off the camcorder again and get filming after last week’s break!

The Nail File: Bridal Nail Art Designs…

Bridal Nail Art Designs

With two major weddings this year to attend (my mums in just over a week and my step-daughters in mid November) its certainly been wedding fever gallore within the Rees household. Bridesmaid dresses, outfits, sparkly accessories, hotels booked etc etc It really is all go. Having worked in the bridal industry a good few years ago it takes me back to some of the fun being involved in planning weddings – of course at the time I had a bridal shop and was working closely with a number of brides from all aspects of their outfits. However now I’ve moved on it’s great once again to get the opportunity to be creative with some other aspects of bridal designs – namely nails. This week I thought I’d showcase some of the fun and simple nail art I’ve been working on over the last few days, it may even inspire any brides-to-be readers. Sitting comfy? Then let’s take a peek…

.

Simple French tip with an antique gold flower design

Bridal Nail 1

A slightly unique twist on a classy bridal favourite – the French tip. This would also look stunning in silver or rose gold… alternatively it could be put into the same colour as your maids dresses. What a cute way to blend in perfectly!

.

Lace effect matte nail in ‘Cake Pop’ pink

Bridal Nail 2

I must admit I’ve never been a fan of matte but I love the lace design against the backdrop of this beautiful opaque pink. This would also be equally stunning is a huge array of other colours too… I’m tempted to try it with a black and white design!

.

Gold floral lace-effect stamp on nude gel base

Bridal Nail 3

Although I’m usually more creative on longer nails, it gives a really good impression of just how pretty shorter nails can look too. If you’re anything like me, long nails are a certainly bit of a challenge to work with… don’t even get me started on attempting to type with them! *rolls eyes*

.

Bride-To-Be pink & white nail with single crystal & mermaid effect nail powder over white

Bridal Nail 4

I love this cute little design I spotted recently on Facebook, unfortunately I can’t remember the artists name to credit them but it really inspired me to give it a go myself! I adore the teeny necklace which adds such a fun yet simple elegant to the design.

.

The Grooms Tux black & white nail design

Bridal Nail 5

Bit of a unique one – but super fun for any bride who fancies something a little different that will certainly catch the eye of her guests and look really playful in photographs too!

Seven Deadly Sins Of Beauty…

Seven Deadly Sins Of Beauty

Howdy Beauty Buddies

Bit of an ominous title today but I assure you it’s all in the name of some cosmetic fun gals! Being slightly addicted to these TAG’s recently I thought I’d try my hand at the Seven Deadly Sins Of Beauty to see how I’d fair.  Never the less these seven questions really do get you thinking. So grab your cuppa and lets take a few minutes to scan over my seven deadly answers…

GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?

Considering I fricken LOVE a good bargain I have a ridiculous stash of goodies in my makeup drawers that have cost in or around £1. Most of my MUA shadows, blushes and a few lippies from Makeup Revolution have by far been the cheapest in my collection – bizarrely some of them actually perform just as well as high end spends too!

My most expensive items would probably be my Naked 1 & 3 palettes, as both weren’t far off £40 each. However I love working with these shadows when my brush is slightly dampened as the pigmentation is incredible & they stay put all night long – having said that working with them dry can be tricky as there’s quite a lot of fall out for the price tag in my opinion.

.

WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with? What product has been the hardest to get?

Eyelashes.  No matter how hard I try I just can’t seem to master the application… regardless how easy peasy some of the YouTube pro’s make it look. A combination of shaky hands, lack of patience and dodgy sight doesn’t help matters.

Oddly enough the product I found hardest to come across was a few years ago – which just so happened to be the EOS lip balms. Every store I asked in the staff hadn’t a clue what Iwas talking about. However as part of my birthday pressie my little sis managed to track one down for me. Typical though as since then I’ve seen them in a few drug stores but am still working my way through my cranberry one!

.

GLUTTONY: What are your most delicious beauty products?

Hmmm, it would probably have to be my MAC lippy in Brave – the smell of it is just incredible, like vanilla cupcakes. Nom ❤

.

SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

Again I’d have to say eyelashes, simply because I can’t be assed futtering around with them for ages and potentially wrecking my eye makeup to some degree or other. I’ve gotten to the stage now where I just whip out my ultimate mascara (Max Factor False Lash Effect) and layer up the lashes that way. Job done 😉

.

PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

Liquid Liner. When my eye liner is ‘on fleek’ I feel so much more confident about my makeup – nothing more satisfying than a sleek line that perfectly matches it’s twin. #eyegoals

.

LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

Hmmm – not sure how this one relates to beauty but hey ho…

Apart from the darn right obvious = hygiene, smelling as awesome as can be etc. I’d have to say humour. If a man can make me laugh he’s won my heart.

.

ENVY: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?

Oooh there’s just so many… however, my top three would have to be the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Wardrobe,  Laura Mercier Artist Eye Palette & Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop – which looks utterly gorgeous!

If I’m painfully honest cleaning makeup brushes is probably one of my biggest pet hates about being a makeup junkie. Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java – Illuminating Face Powder…

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java Illuminating Powder

Not gonna lie ladies, face powders have never really been my thing, simply because most of the ones I’ve tried in the past have left my skin looking a little cakey, dried out and in need of a good re-hydrating face mask. Maybe it’s pale skin problems or maybe it’s my overall skin type; either way powders and moi just haven’t mixed as well as I’d hoped we would. Could the Bourjois Poudre de Riz change all that? Let’s find out…

.

So before we jump right in with the review let’s take a peek at what Bourjois have to say about it:

“Bourjois celebrates its 150th birthday by reinventing its best selling cult classic from 1879! The delicately scented feather-light powder boosts skins radiance, smoothes the complexion and sets make-up. One transparent shade suits all!”

.

Let’s talk packaging…

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java 2

Let’s be honest it really is the first thing that catches your eye about this little cutie, well it certainly was for me whilst browsing the Bourjois stand in my local drugstore. Personally I adore the fact it’s designed in a very chic and vintage style, which looks exceptionally sassy on the dressing table. Of course the beautiful French text and descriptions give the impression of a high end spend when in fact it’s a mere £9.99. My only grumble is that they could be a little more clearer on the description of what it does and what it’s for, okay so it’s not too hard to figure out but just a little more info wouldn’t go a miss!

.

So what does it actually do?

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java 3

Apart from giving you a soft illuminating glow to your face I found it worked really well at simply setting my makeup whilst keeping my oily areas under control. The formula is incredibly light weight and has a very subtle micro glitter/shimmer running through it – which I must admit kinda concerned me that it may come across too much but it absolutely doesn’t, so for those of you who writhe in the mere thought of sprinkling unicorn powder across your face you can take a deep breath, this is far from shimmery however it does add a very soft luminosity to the skin by brightening it ever so slight.

.

What about the formula?

It’s a powder, so there’s not really that much to add here HOWEVER its incredibly fine and smells of THEE most beautiful floral scent that reminds me of dried flowers, old fashioned sweets and my grandma’s perfume all rolled into one. However considering that it is delicately scented this may not be suitable for all skin types – particularly those with super sensitive skin. From personal experience my skin reacts to most things but the Poudre De Riz De Java sat so finely on top of my foundation that it really didn’t bother my most moodiest of pores. It leaves a very silky smooth texture to your skin that doesn’t seem to transfer easily, nor does it leave my makeup looking cakey or too matte.

.

Application…

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java 4

It really is each to their own with this as some are happy to dab onto a dry blender sponge, however where powders are concerned I’m always a fan of sticking to good quality makeup brushes. I personally love the Real Techinques Duo Fibre Facebrush – which picks up the perfect amount of powder so you don’t need to worry about over applying. Simply tap some of the powder into the lid and apply over your finished makeup look to help set your foundation and brighten your complexion – it couldn’t be easier.

.

Pro’s

One transparent shade suits all – no hunting for colour matches.

Lightweight

Great for setting makeup

Ideal for keeping oily spots under control

Smells like a little bowl of floral gems  (anyone remember those?!)

Non mattefying, so it shouldn’t change the finished look of your foundation!

Beautifully presented in vintage inspired packaging – a classy addition to any vanity table

A great happy medium without over spending on high end alternatives.

.

Con’s

Not everyone might be a fan of the scent – though I can’t imagine why, it’s beautiful!

It’s not the cheapest powder available in drugstores… however it has been the only one that hasn’t left my makeup looking caked.

May be tricky getting the last little dregs of powder out of the packaging due to the sealed unit.

.

Final thoughts

Bourjois Poudre De Riz De Java 6

As much as powders and I haven’t really bonded in the past I must admit this has been the most successful one of tried to date. It’s lightweight, smells beautiful and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. I appreciate that Talc based products aren’t for everyone but for those who are okay to wear them this is most certainly a lovely product that looks great, feels great, lightly illuminates and is certainly worth the £9.99 spend in comparison to its drugstore rivals.

The Nail File: Summer Shenanigans…

The Nail File

Considering the sun seems to be in hiding these days I’m barely clinging onto the final weeks of summer, hopeful that there’s still a few rays of sunshine to come our way. But of course all these rainy afternoons hemmed up Confetti & Curves HQ can only mean for one thing… nail art galore. And this week has been no exception as I’ve been trying out some fun freehand styles that have really helped put me back in the holiday mood. Check this fun bunch out…

.

Marble Gel Nail Art

I love this swirly/marbled gel effect using two of my favourite colours for summer – hot pink and turquoise blue. I just adore how the black adds a whole other level of contrast and makes the colours pop… of course all topped off with a dollop of bling 😉

.

Strawberry Nail Art

What could be more symbolic of summer than a big juicy strawberry… on your nail! What fun this design is for a cute accent nail on the fingers or tootsies. Never the less it’s just a bit of fruity fun that’s put me right in the mood for a strawberry daiquiri *nom*

.

Fruit Nail Art Design

Life’s a peach – sorry just couldn’t help myself to another cheesy cliche 😉 However this cute little peach accent nail was super fun to create and surprisingly easy to design. Simple, chic & a bit of cheeky fun!

.

Watermelon Nail Art Pic

As much as I loved creating this fun watermelon nail I’m utterly gutted about how blue the tip came out on the image as in reality it’s a beautiful bright shade of green. Maybe it’s just my dodgy laptop screen but in real life this is such an eye catching contrast of summery hues!

.

Liquid Glamour Galaxy Nail

I completely forgot about this design until I stumbled across it again last night, this was my attempt at a glittery galaxy nail that I created a few weeks ago. Although the camera isn’t capturing the sparkle too well this really glistens in the light and just looks like a mesmerising galaxy on the nail. This would be the perfect accent nail for a solid purple, blue or glossy black gel polish!

Creating An Aquarium Nail…

What a melting few days of sunshine we’ve had here, and whilst everyone is lapping up the rays I’m cooped up in the shade with my pots of glitter & acrylic having a blast of a time creating some fun nail art. This week I thought I’d bring the camera along so you could check out my first attempt at creating an Aquarium nail, which is pretty much sprinkles of glitter encapsulated in a teeny well of acrylic.

As expected it was a little bit fidgety but none the less a fun little project for me to work on. Needless to say I’ll definitely be attempting it in the future but for now it’s onto some 3D art and the stamping plates 🙂

So if you fancy procrastinating for another 5 minutes or so, then get yourself comfy and check out how I created my first Aquarium nail! If you’ve any suggestions for some future project by all means leave them in the comments below and I’ll put them firmly onto my to-do list.

Wishing y’all a fabulous day ahead and hope you’re a enjoying the few extra sun rays! Don’t forget to lather on that extra SPF 😉

Get Ready With Me: Peachy Summer Makeup Look…

Howdy Chums…

It’s feels like ages since I’ve filmed a ‘Get Ready With Me’ style makeup video, so having woke up to a few cheery sun rays peeking through my bedroom blinds I was inspired to get the camera out and hit record when trying out a summery peachy look – which always works a treat on warming up my translucent Irish complexion!

.

So what’s on my face?! Here’s a run down of the products featured in today’s video…

DSC03008

To prep my face I used No7 Airbrush Away Primer (£16.50) along with No7 Colour Calming Primer Green (£10.50) – both are utterly amazing at prepping skin, particularly if you suffer from red patches like moi!

For foundation I’m using my current fav, No7 Lift & Luminate (£16.50) which hydrates and add a dewy look to brighten up my skin. *Click Here* to check out my recent review 🙂
