Behind The Blog featuring Varsha from The Girl With An Accent…

The Girl With An Accent

Hello, Howdy, Welcome…

I’ve been in such a cheery mood these past few days, heaven knows why as I’ve a list to grumble about – but then who doesn’t, right?! Needless to say, I’m a great believer that a few rays of sun helps, and considering that we’ve been bizarrely blessed with a run of blue skies lately (living in Ireland that’s a rare treat at times) it’s been fabulous getting up in the morning to the sun streaming in through the blinds. Even groggily moving my arm to find a little warm spot on the duvet has been a treat. Can you imagine my elation living in some far flung sunny climate?! Ohh the temptation! However, I shall stop rambling and get right onto today’s feature…

Talking of cheery, I’ve a fabulous blog buddy to introduce y’all too today as the gorgeous Varsha from The Girl With An Accent, joins us for a quick chatter about life behind the scenes of her flourishing lifestyle and beauty blog. Varsha’s blog is a fun mix of many a great topic including yummy recipes, a sprinkling of beauty, a dash of wanderlust and oodles of personality. There literally is something for everyone, so if you haven’t already taken a virtual trip over to Varsha’s corner of the interwebs then be sure to check it out pronto, but not before we take a peek Behind The Blog

Varsha

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Recipes, beauty, life, ramblings and inspiration!

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Honestly, I’d been thinking about it for a while. I first wanted to start up a YouTube channel (and even filmed a video rambling on about things!) but that didn’t work out. I was just too insecure. Two years ago, I started writing for the magazine at my university and gradually gained a little confidence. I’ve always loved writing and sharing ideas and experiences but I was always a little insecure about it all. I finally mustered the courage one day and made an impulsive decision to sign up on WordPress and here I am! I’m still relatively anonymous but I’m ready to let people I know read my blog (at least a few close friends).

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

Like I said earlier, I’d been thinking about it for a while before I impulsively clicked the sign up button. About two years ago, I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in India. We started talking about accents and she told me that I had an accent. I told her she had one. That went back and forth a little until I realised we all have accents. It makes everyone simultaneously unique and the same.

It also says a little something about me. People usually can’t place my accent, because I was exposed to so many languages and accents while growing up. I’ve got a bit of a mix of an Indian and an American accent and since I’ve been studying English, an English accent can also be added to the mix. In other words, I’ve got a weird accent (as I’ve been told) and proud of it!

.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

The thing is I’ve got all these ideas popping up at the wrong times so I end up forgetting most of them (I know, I should be writing them down). So, since I forget I even had an idea, I tend to suffer from Blogger’s Block from time to time. When this happens, I usually check out other blogs (which ends up in liking and commenting all over the place) or browse Pinterest.

.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Can I pick two? My blog is quite varied so it’s hard to just pick one, I enjoyed writing them all!

Here’s one of my first posts ever “Late Evening Baking Time! – Banana Bread Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies” This one was such an unplanned post! It was nearing midnight. I was literally sitting on my couch watching TV and suddenly got a craving for cookies. So I looked something up and ended up with these delicious cookies!

The other one is beauty related and my first ever “Hello Favourites” I was so excited to use my new Naked Palette and couldn’t wait to share it all my lovely readers. I feel like you can really sense my excitement in this post. I also loved taking the pictures. It truly made me feel like a real blogger.

.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

This one is difficult! My clothes style tends to change with my mood. One day I’m a punk chick, the other day I’m a girly girl wearing a dress. But since I mostly just go to university, my everyday style is usually just denim jeans, t-shirt and cardigan with converse/boots.

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

MAC’s Prep+Prime BB compact (review here)

Collection’s Long Lasting Concealer

MAC ‘s lipstick Mehr (review here)

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I like to cosy up on the couch with either a book or a (Bollywood) film with a warm cup of tea.

.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Very much like how I relax and unwind after a stressful day. So, watching something on Netflix or even work on my blog! But I also like to hang out with my friends. Maybe even go for a cocktail (or two).

.

What do you do to relax?

I listen to music and read. I also find cooking and baking extremely relaxing. Sometimes I like to watch my favourite shows on Netflix. Or I call my mom or my best friend to talk.

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Putting off plans with friends (usually because I’m stressing about university too much). A mundane (and weird) habit of mine is not being able to finish my drink till the last drop. I always leave a little sip at the end of my glass or cup. I don’t know why!

.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Decorating the Christmas tree together with my family every year (including Christmas shopping and all, even though we’re not Christians!). There is one particular memory I have when I was probably barely 4. I’m sitting on the floor while my mom is braiding my hair while I look up at the lights in the Christmas tree twinkle. I just felt so happy in that moment. It’s one of my first really happy memories that I can remember.

.

What was your favourite school subject?

In secondary school it was Biology

At university it’s Second Language Acquisition! (funny how things change)

.

What’s your dream job?

This is a question I’ve been asked to address a lot lately.

Maybe an author. Or a chef. Or a restaurant owner. Or a journalist. Maybe even a full time blogger.

.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’ll be 27 then, eek!

I see myself holding my master’s degree, along with a teaching certificate. I’ve got a stable and great job. A nice apartment or house somewhere in Europe (most probably the Netherlands). And maybe even thinking about marriage.

.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Travel through all of Europe

See the Northern Lights

Write a novel about my best friend’s love story

Fly in a hot air balloon

Be thoroughly and wonderfully happy

.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Moving to the Netherlands to live on my own at the age of 17.

.

Who inspires you?

My mom, my friends, all you lovely bloggers!

.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Stop thinking of what could go wrong and think of what could go right”

.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just do it. Don’t think of what could go wrong. Think of what could go right. Step out of your comfort zone and touch the waters. It’s a whole new realm of possibilities and learning!

Oh, the wonderful things life brings us when we challenge it.
