Building A Beauty Room: The Reveal…

I’ve been on my beauty blogging journey for almost 18 months now. Time flies when you’re having fun right? 😉 I started out with my humble make-up bag half full of staple cosmetics, yet somehow over the past year or so it’s become (almost) a full time hobby with a variety of lotions, potions and countless eye shadows that have pretty much taken over every little nook and cranny of my bedroom. Naturally, when my hubby came up with the pretty nifty solution of me ‘taking over’ the spare room I couldn’t resist the idea of having my own space to blog, create, craft and spend countless free hours conjuring up an array of fun make-up looks. What gal could resist?

After ten days of intense DIY my little beauty room/office space is finally finished. All the chipped & broken nails, cursing at unfathomable flat-pack instructions, trips to the DIY store and half drunk cups of tea were certainly worth the effort, as even I’ll admit it’s turned out even better than I imagined – all thanks to Steve’s handy work and a little bit of vision and creativity on my part. I love it. From the moment I open the door to the second I close it, I feel like I’m in my own little haven.

Best of all, pretty much everything is from the shelves of Ikea so it’s super affordable. From the cute little picture shelf displaying my entire polish collection to the huge corner desk that was so easily adapted for my ring lamp. Okay, so there might be a few little extra’s I’ve picked up along the way but I couldn’t resist such pretty little accessories that really give the room a subtle sprinkle of chic femininity!

So if you’re thinking of decorating on a budget, revamping a room or simply on the look out for some sassy but affordable storage for your cosmetic bits & bobs, then I really hope this weeks video will help inspire you too!

  1. What a gorgeous wee space you’ve got there! Everything looks so neat and works perfectly. I got some shelves almost exactly the same as the 4×2 set in your video for my birthday. I actually really enjoyed getting my DIY on and putting them together. I wouldn’t say no to more videos featuring your nail polish and makeup collections either 😉 xx

    • Awwwh thank you so so much my lovely friend 🙂 Yes, there’s certainly lots of space to fill with new goodies Traci lol lol 😉
I have to say I done okay with the Alex drawers – they took about an hour to put together but I’d imagine the bigger ones would more than likely be a job for two of you with the size of them 🙂 Otherwise Ikea do a service where you can arrange guys to come out an build them for you… apparently it’s very good!!! Ahh just wish I lived closer and then I could have helped… heck we could’ve made a girly night out of it… or maybe that would have made things worse!!! Hide the vino!!! lol lol XXX

  4. I really like the finished beauty room! White furniture makes a room seem so fresh, clean and cheery! Great spot for the little Dior bag. Maybe it will do some tricks. That’s so nice that Steve helped put the room together. I guess you’ll keep him around haha 😀 bravo, bravo, great room to get beautified. Is Gomez allowed in there? Xoxo

    • Awwh thank you sooo much Cos, what a lovely comment to read – I’m chuffed to bits you like it so much huni!! Honestly I’m so delighted with how well it turned out huni. Isn’t the little card super cute? I just couldn’t not use it, too pretty to stash away somewhere and the Ikea frames are so inexpensive… only took me a couple of minutes!!! Hope you give it a go too, really cheers up the walls!! 😀 xx

    • Glad you enjoyed it huni – it was such a fun project to work on but after all the flat-pack building I’m so glad it’s finally finished Anne! Though my love for Ikea has been amplified, their stuff is amazing 😀 Isn’t the lamp cut-out blooming marvellous?! Steve done well!!! XXX

      • I adore Ikea, but there is always that moment half way through construction were you want to strangle them for their ambiguous instructions 😉
I think it came together so well, a great space for blogging and crafting.

      • YES!!!!! It’s those little drawings of smiley cartoon men, they make it look like it’s so damn easy when you’re hoping to heavens you’ve the right end screwed on or bolted in lol
Awwh thank you my wee chum, that’s very lovely & glad you like it too 🙂 XXX

      • I think they add steps that make absolutely no sense once in a while just for laughs. I recently put a bed together, and the last step was impossible. I could not figure out what they wanted from me 😉

      • Yes yes yes!! Honestly, so bizarre! Sometimes the drawings don’t even make sense, it turns into a game of Pictionary after a while *sigh* Hope your bed is still standing strong! 😀 xxx

    • Awwh thank you sweetie 🙂 Can’t believe the transformation – should’ve took a before shot lol
As far as I’m aware it was from Amazon, my hubby bought it for me for Christmas. I can ask him to get me the link for you if it helps? From what I remember it was about £130 – quite pricey but well worth it as they are FAB!!!!! It’s called a ring lamp, so if you can’t find anything under that search or if you’d prefer to go with where Steve got mine from let me know and I’ll get you sorted with the details 🙂 XXX

      • Yay! Hugs! 😃 Know that I am sending huge hugs right back! Your room really is perfect.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it! It has had to undergo some reorganising and DIY due to my compulsive shopping habits but I am happy with it too. I will eventually need an entire room for my make-up stash though. I already have to store half of my clothing in my mother’s room. 😂 xxxxx

      • I always know you are – I can literally feel them as I read your comments huni 🙂 Hey, that is always the best kind of Re-organising reason hehe 😀 It sounds like my kind of dream set-up… a whole other room for clothes and a whole stash of makeup hoardings! Fabulous hehehe 😀 XXXXX
