My mission: to find a swoon-worthy gel polish for my desperately weak and fickle nails! Could Sally Hanson’s Miracle Gel really live up to the hype & expectations? It certainly looked alluring as I turned the corner in my local Superdrug Store to be confronted with a blinding array of little coloured bottles jumping out from the pristinely arranged stand. Seemingly at the time I wasn’t the only one who was lured in by its visual wonderment, as a girl beside me turned and asked if I had tried it before. “Nope, but I think I’ll give it a go…” was my reply, as she seemed to mentally debate over the price tag compared to some of the other drug store bargains.
I for one was drawn towards the shade Totemly-Yours, a soft nude that would be the perfect tone for starting my new job. It’s chic, feminine & sophisticated – exactly the look I was hoping for. So with fingers crossed that it would look every bit the professional gel finish, I wandered happily towards the cashier so I could treat my disastrous digits to a mini make-over of the Sally Hansen kind.
Wanna check out my results? Then let’s get started…

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel…
“The ONLY TRUE 2-STEP GEL MANICURE with no UV light needed. Over 45 shades to choose from! And it’s only from Sally Hansen. Leading the revolution in gel technology”

.
£9.99 for the base colour & £9.99 for the gel top coat… quite an investment for a drug store offering in my humble opinion. I certainly had my fingers firmly crossed that it would be a winner!
.
Step 1: Apply 2 coats of Miracle Gel™ Colour
Step 2: Apply 1 coat of Miracle Gel™ Top Coat *
* Top coat needs to be purchased separately.
.
2 Steps: with a base colour of over 45 delicious shades, Sally fans are certainly spoilt for choice – and the colours are incredibly beautiful. It really is tough narrowing down the choices!
Easy Removal: One swipe and it’s off. Really, it’s that easy.
No UV light required: That’s right ladies, a glossy finish without the need for any expensive gadgets!
Great self-levelling: As my nails are pretty much the furthest thing from smooth due to breakage etc It takes a really good formula to settle into the humps and bumps and smooth everything out. This done a pretty impressive job of making my nails bed look evened out and much healthier than before application.
.
Gel? What gel? For the price (£20 for the base colour & gel top coat combined) I expected a gorgeous glossy gel finish for an entire fortnight… what I got however was a few days of high-shine that slowly merged into what looked like a standard glossy polish. Shiney yes, but not entirely gel-like.
Drying Time: Prepare to set up camp for the evening gals as this stuff stays tacky for what feels like a small lifetime. 2 hours later and I was still hesitant about touching things for fear of it ruining my new mani. Most certainly not for those in a hurry!
Longevity: 14 days you say Sally? Hmm, not this bottle huni. The results for me were (almost) the same amount of chips & wear as a standard polish after the end of week 1. What happened to 14 days of glorious gel-ness? *sigh*
Cost: Above all I really think my biggest bug-bearer lies with the cost. It’s not that the product is particularly bad… it’s an incredibly pretty polish and looks rather pleasing to the eyeballs! However for me the spend doesn’t justify the overall finish and longevity. Sure it may be a little more longer lasting than a standard polish, but not by a long shot.
.
If you’re eager for a gel like finish I’d save the hassle and book an appointment with a local nail salon as it would most likely last a good few weeks beyond what Sally promises in her Miracle Gel. Having said that, if you’re on the lookout for a very pretty finish that you’re aiming to get 4/5 days wear out of before it begins to show signs of tiredness (and don’t mind the over-spend) then go right ahead. Personally, I think I might just stick to letting the nail technician work her magic to save me the effort! Sorry Sally, I usually love your products but the Miracle Gel just hasn’t won me over *sob*
Have you tried Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel Polish? Has it worked out for you? Have you any recommendations for a ‘life-changing’ gel polish without the need to rush out and buy an expensive lamp paraphernalia? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below. As always, thank y’all for stopping by & wishing everyone a fabulous weekend whatever your plans may be 🙂
Cheerio Chums…
…
Catch me on:
I tried the Barry M daylight curing ones which require no UV lights, as these were a little cheaper! They are great but the colour choice isn’t yet fantastic! I have been tempted to try these Sally Hansen ones!

Were you impressed with them or were they just ‘meh’? I honestly didn’t find Sally’s impressive at all – just seemed like a glossy polish than a gel If you do try them hopefully you’ll have a better experience than I did Bella XX

Oooh, well I’ll certainly bear that in mind Bella 🙂 Was going to try Essie next to see what they are like! Have you tried them yet? X

No! But I noticed they’ve always got beautiful colours out! I’m so lazy with my nails! I used to have them done but then I am too lazy to keep going! Makeup is more my thing haha 🙂 X

I think that’s the same as me too Bella, it’s the hassle of going to the salon (or at least finding time to go!! lol) Plus some of the products virtually wreck my nails… a polish ain’t so bad 😀 XXX

I completely agree with you as from the picture I could see the normal glossy shine of the nail polish and those nail shades doesn’t really seem to look like a gel based pro salon finish and with the hefty price tag of £10, it is definitely need to think again to invest in it. Well, the review is utterly bang on. Have a wonderful weekend Karen.

Thanks so much huni 🙂 As much as I wanted it to work out as a gel it just didn’t for me *sigh* Gorgeous range of colour choices, but a standard polish is just what it looks like. Onto the next lol x

It would be a shame if a lot of money were spent and it was a disappointment. Luckily, these are reasonable 🙂 Yayyy xo

I was lucky enough to get this is a freebie for something and as gel/top coats I was impressed because I am not that much of a believer that top coats work. It kept my nail varnish in tact for at least 7 days, whereas I usually average at 3-4 before chips start to show (or mere minutes if I am super clumsy!) But I agree, I don’t think it is totally worth the price tag. Lovely colour though! x

I think the top coat is certainly of decent quality Sophie, I just don’t think that it gave a ‘gel’ finish as promised. After spending £20 I expected a heck of alot better 😦 Isn’t the colour fab? Very nice… just wish it was gel!!! lol xxx

Yeah, I kinda had the same experience that you had (you can read my review here, if you want to: http://bottledindenmark.com/2015/03/02/sally-hansen-miracle-gel-review/). I know that the have revamped the top coat since I bought mine, so I was hoping they would embrace the critique and make a better top coat, but it sounds like it’s still the same..

Hey Nanna, glad I’m not the only one who isn’t bowled over by this. I had such high expectations with it being a Sally Hansen product. Top coat is just okay – decent enough but not worth that money in my opinion 😦 Will defo check out your review too lovely XXX

I am obsessed with Rimmel London nails polishes! I got rid of my OPI polishes and started collecting Rimmel.. They stay on my nails for at least a week or even longer until they start to crack..😳 Im not a fan of Sally Hansen especially their “quick dry”.. Totally disappointment!

Yeah, it really is a let down for what I thought was a reputable brand. Haven’t tried any of the other ranges but if they’re anything like this I’m really not sure it’s worth the investment. Might give Essie a go next 🙂 I do have quite a few Rimmel but I find they chip on me very quickly… think a good sturdy top coat is what I need 😀 Thanks for stopping by huni, great to read your feedback XXXX

I sure did, went through a couple of bottles but again it didn’t seem to work very well on me. Think I might try branching into a few other brands just out of curiosity 🙂 XX

I have this in the shade B Girl, it’s like a light blue/teal. I wasn’t very impressed with the polish not the topcoat. The polish for me was streaky no matter how many coats I applied and the top coat was almost too thick where it doesn’t spread out all over my nail. But you’re lucky that yours didn’t chop for at least a week, mine chips the next day or 2 says after I apply it to my nails, and i don’t even do anything harsh with my hands other than clean.

That’s sooo disappointing 😦 For something with that price tag it just shouldn’t have these issues. The more I read about it the more I’m angered that a product like this goes to market without anyone picking up on these issues. Surely they test the blooming things out firsty *rolls eyes* I thought the top coat was quite thick, but having said that the polish seemed to self-level very well. Still not a ‘miracle gel’ by any stretch of the imagination! Onto the next find 😦 Xxx

I honestly don’t think Sally hansen products are what people make them out to be or even worth their price tag. I have the base and top coat combined (blue cap) and it still doesn’t make my polish last and takes forever to dry. I have yet to find a good top coat. I recently bought a top coat from Julie g, it’s supposed to be quick drying gel like topcoat and that even doesn’t last on my nails.

I totally agree Shandel, all hype and very little results. For £20 I would have expected so much more, instead of just a standard polish finish 😦 I guess it’s back to the drawing board in the search… though I’m not that hopeful to find something that will rival a gel huni. If you do come across anything let me know, and of course I’ll keep you posted too 🙂 XXX

Do you have acsess to the brand LA Colors? They have colored gel polishes I have a couple, i totally forgot about them. I’ve only tried out one shade and I loved it. It lasted a lot longer than the Sally hansen ones did. I’ll direct message you a picture on instagram.

I tried this before going CF and was not impressed either. It really does take foreverrrrr to dry and mine chipped the same day if I remember correctly. It also applied really streaky. I’m all about the Wet n Wild. I wish I could get my hands on some Barry M!!!

Seriously Kaily I’m just so blooming anooyed because I bought this on the recommendation of a few other blogs that seemed to rave about it constantly. Almost makes me loose trust in reviews from them *grrr* After spending £20 on the stuff (which I couldn’t got a whole bunch of other stuff with) I’m pretty gutted it didn’t work out. Oddly enough this one didn’t seem to apply too streaky – it just didn’t look like a gel Nor was it long lasting. Should’ve saved the pennies and just got a gel mani lol Oh my gosh that’s odd, another blogger just recommended Barry M. Sounds like I need to give that a go instead. I was actually going to move onto Essie to see if it was any better but Barry M is everywhere here so may be a better bet 😉 Totally amazed at the amount of others that found this Miracle Gel disappointment too… such high hopes *sigh* Anyways, hope you’re keeping well as can be, you health & little bump doing well huni? Awe, I’m sorry 😦 I think sometimes bigger bloggers try so many things that they review something before giving a FULL shot Smaller ones too sometimes aim to please but they usually grow out of it. Are you able to return it!!?? I’ve never tried Barry M but I’ve heard really great things. I know a lot of people like the Essie color selection but I hear it chips really fast.

I think that’s probably the case Kaily… it’s been reviewed before it’s been tried Either that or else I’m just super picky lol Shame to hear that about the Essie, I would have imagined it to be pretty long lasting too…. you just wonder how these brands build up such a cult following when the products don’t last!!! Grrr! XX
