Behind The Blog featuring Yazzi from The Pretty Pomegranate…

The Pretty Pomegranate

Firstly ladies, a huge thank you indeedly on the lovely comments from yesterday’s post The Make Up Menu featuring MAC Craving… I have to say I’m really gaining momentum as a MAC craver and although it ain’t the ‘be all and end all’ in my collection, I can’t deny the colours are fabulous & the staying power is beyond impressive! I’m really looking forward to slowly expanding my collection so watch out for a few new lippies coming soon! Don’t forget, any recommendations let me know so I can check them out 🙂

However onto today’s post as I plump up the cushions on our virtual sofa yet again for another awesome blog buddy of mine *woo hoo* This week commences with the gorgeous Yazzi from The Pretty Pomegranate, a like minded cosmetic craver with a passion for Asian beauty products! In fact her blossoming blog just so happens to be jammed packed full of great reviews, news and awesome products you really should be adding to your wish list! I’ve known Yazzi for quite some time now and can honestly say she’s a gem here in the blogging community – always super chatty, friendly & incredibly welcoming to anyone making their debut visit onto her virtual haven. Do get yourself over and say a huge hello, I’m sure you’ll adore her as much as the rest of us do! 🙂

Anyways, enough from me – time to hand you over the the gal herself as we take a peek Behind The Blog with Yazzi…

Yazzi The Pretty Pomegranate

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Asian beauty, reviews, honesty, fun!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I have had so much fun trying out different products. Asian beauty caught my eye about a year ago and I began telling family and friends what I was discovering. It’s not too well known to us Westerners, although it’s becoming more mainstream, so I decided to share by starting my blog.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

I really just wanted something that sounded fresh. My hubby and I bounced back ideas and, between the two of us, we landed on The Pretty Pomegranate.

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

I have a couple of times. Moving, stress, and just life in general can really take it out of you. Thankfully, I try to keep a stash of posts ready for when those times happen. That way I still have content while I recharge to tackle new ideas.

What’s your favourite post to date? *please include link*

My “Where To Buy Your Korean Products” (link here: ) is pretty much my (figurative) child in word form. I spent hours researching reputable places. I searched for top websites, reviews, read hauls, and searched the sites for their product selection and shipping details. I even looked for places for those on the other side of the Atlantic to shop! I continue to add and revise it as well to keep it up to date.

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I’m so simple, honestly. Jeans, t-shirt, glasses. I can appreciate great fashion, but hardly embody it on a regular basis.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

– My Skin79 Hot Pink BB Cream (reviewed here:  ). I wear it all the time!

– My Skinfood Peach Sake Pore Powder (reviewed here: ). It smells amazing and helps to set my makeup and control pore size and oil production.

– My Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Clay Mask (reviewed here: ). It cleans out my pores and is just too fun to use!

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

It’s odd, but my night time routine really helps to calm me down. I’ll take a nice hot bath with one of my Lush bath bombs, do my skincare routine, and settle in to watch one of my Korean dramas. (If you’ve never heard of/watched a Korean drama, you need to!)

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Going with the hubby to either our fave Korean restaurant or sushi, coming home, and settling in the bed with my pup to watch a movie or K-drama. Oh, dessert is in there somewhere, too. I have a terrible sweet tooth!

What do you do to relax?

I have some digestive issues, so I’ve learned some breathing exercises. If I’m having a bad day or am particularly stressed/anxious, I’ll breathe a bit and go to a quiet place to relax. Inevitably my day ends with my night time skincare routine which, let’s be honest, is therapy in itself. 😉

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I’ll be honest and say I can be quite lazy sometimes. It’s only at home, though. At work or school I’m nose to the grindstone. But at home? I’m in my pj pants and trying to ignore the dirty dishes piling up in the sink.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

This one’s difficult because I don’t have one specific childhood memory that I cherish. I do remember fondly when my older brother and I would ride our bikes in the backyard and, when the ice cream truck would stop on our street, we’d run to buy our goods. It was always the same thing for both of us: one ice cream sandwich and two bubblegum cigarettes. Those bubblegum cigarettes were so fun! They were sticks of gum wrapped in paper with corn starch powder so you could blow on the gum and it would look like you were smoking. Terribly bad influence, but we had fun with them.

What was your favourite school subject?

I’ve always really loved English, specifically Literature. More recently, in college, I have loved my Social Science classes like Sociology (life changing, really) and Anthropology. I love learning how humans function, think, and interact.

What’s your dream job?

Well, I’m currently in pursuit of my BA in Public Relations. I’ll also be minoring in Japanese Language. It’s quite an odd combo, but I hope to work in PR, preferably for a Japanese company, and travel to East Asia often. If that falls through, I would also like to work in PR for a non-profit.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

This one is difficult because my next year and a half are in a sort of limbo right now. Ideally, in five years, I will have my BA in PR and will have landed my dream job or internship… or at least be in that company working my way up. It would be nice to be settling into our own house by that time because renting is getting pretty tiresome, but I’m open to a lot of different options. My big focus right now (besides Hubby and the fur kids) is the career path I’ve chosen.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

Study abroad in Japan.

Go to Seoul and shop for k-beauty.

Complete the Shikoku Pilgrimage (a pilgrimage of 88 Buddhist temples in Japan)

Volunteer at an elephant sanctuary.

Scuba at the Great Barrier Reef.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I joined the Honor’s Program at my college and, in March 2015, I presented one of my research papers at the Southern Regional Honor’s Conference. You don’t get awards or anything, but I was so happy that one of my professors thought that my research and presentation was so good that I should present it in front of the entire conference (consisting of  a few hundred Honor’s students and faculty).

Who inspires you?

This one is difficult because there’s not one person who inspires me—I feel that I take inspiration from various sources. I may read a quote, hear a song, or see an action and feel inspired. It’s corny, but true.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

I posted this on my Post A Quote Challenge Day 3 (link here: ). It’s by Maya Angelou. “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it! I hesitated because I thought I wasn’t “good enough” or didn’t have anything to contribute, but blogging isn’t just about telling people things they don’t know (like tutorials or reviews). Blogging is a huge community and it’s so worthwhile.
