Behind The Blog featuring Kirsten Emma…

Hey Beauty Buddies,

Firstly a great big thanks to y’all for the fabulous support & incredible comments on yesterday’s post How To Blend Your Eye Shadow Like A Pro. I had oodles of fun creating this post, particularly as experimenting with shadow looks is a favourite step in my make-up routine! Of course having been a daily blogger for well over a year now, the tips & tricks I’ve picked up through reading other blogs & spending many a happy hour glued to YouTube has been phenomenal. In fact, it’s part of why I find this community so darn addictive 🙂

Talking of community, I have the lovely Kirsten Emma featuring on Behind The Blog today as she takes a few moments to give us all a quick glance behind the scenes of her Glasgow based virtual beauty & lifestyle haven. Having studied design in Uni (combined with her love for blogging) it’s no surprised her features have always been sprinkled with dose of unique creativity. Fancy getting to know her a little bit better? Then get yourself comfy as we take a peek behind the blog…

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Make-up, Chattiness, Adventures, Glasgow & (hopefully..) friendliness!

What inspired you to start blogging?

I am a very creative person, and studied Design at University and successfully graduated. However due to a bunch of reasons that will bore the socks of everyone…I have found a job which is decidedly not creative and I felt like I was stuck in a total run. I thought blogging might be a good way to start getting back into doing something creating and that I find fun, and if I make some like-minded friends along the way then that’s a bonus!

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

It’s just my first and middle name. So boring, I know but if I had decided on something quirkier I probably would have forgotten it within a day and would never have been able to log back into WordPress ever again!

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Not so far, no, but I have only been blogging for around 3 months now so I imagine it will hit me at some point. What I would say though, is that I have tried to create posts that I can update on a monthly basis such as Monthly Favourites and Monthly Goals… so if worst comes to worst and all other content dries up I should have at least two posts a month!

What’s your favourite post to date?

My favourite to write was absolutely ‘It’s the end of an era, you might say’. In it I got to reminisce about my Uni days and living with a bunch of brilliant and equally crazy ladies through the years. Also SPICE GIRLS!

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Something that goes in at the waist and out at the hips! I also like chunky necklaces and comfy shoes

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Archery Soap and Glory Eyebrow Pencil (Blondeshell)

Revlon Lip Butter (Pink Truffle)

Rimmel Wake me Up Foundation (The palest shade)

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

The ability to rant about it to someone! Then a nice dinner, something good on the TV and getting cosy to forget all about it!

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Dinner (to somewhere I have never been before, I like exploring!) Drinks and maybe see some Live Comedy. Either with my friends or the boyfriend.

What do you do to relax?

Honestly? I do nothing. Sometimes you just need to lie on the couch and watch daft videos on Youtube, weird programmes you find on the telly, or end up one some random but cool website from!

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I go in huffs with my nearest and dearest and don’t really ‘use my words’. It drives my boyfriend mad as we could sort whatever is bothering me together, rather than just sulking about till I sort it out in my own head!

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Going to Blackpool with my family, or any time spent with my siblings at my Grans house on a Sunday. I hope if I ever have kids that they can get experiences like that.

What was your favourite school subject?

Art or English. I don’t think I really knew I liked English when I was actually at school but looking back I certainly found it interesting but the homework probably had me thinking otherwise.

What’s your dream job?

I’d love to be able to support myself by designing greetings cards and posters etc for people to buy. I enjoy doing things like that and it would also be great to create your own working hours and feel a bit like an entrepreneur. I am hoping to start an Etsy store soon, so we will see.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hmm… I hope that I have stopped renting flats and have managed to buy my own place. Hopefully my boyfriend won’t have got sick of me either and we have bought it together. I do want marriage and kids but I don’t know if that will happen in the next 5 years or not as that seems like too little time and is now making me scared. Ah. I also hope that I am happy in my job whatever I may be doing.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

To see the Northern Lights

Get Married

Walk the West Highland Way

Visit every State in America (probably only if I win the lottery for this one though!)

Design something that someone buys

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Graduating with a 2:1

Who inspires you?

Anyone who has followed or is following their dreams. These people always seem to take risks and fight though the struggles along the way. I wish I could do it without panicking, I like to have a steady job.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

Everything will be okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just do it. (Sorry NIKE!) I thought about it for ages and wished I had just started it sooner, even if you feel like no one is listening, just do it! People will start to like, comment and follow eventually. I found commenting on posts I liked and acknowledging the parts I especially enjoyed helped me start to connect with people in the Blogosphere, everyone likes to know their posts have reached someone, so I think it’s a nice thing to do as I know it is a nice thing to receive.
