Maybelline Super Stay Review…

Maybelline Super Stay Review a

Hey Beauty Buddies…

If you managed to catch Wednesday’s post  ‘HUUUUGE Superdrug Haul‘ you’ll have noticed a few Maybelline goodies made their way into my basket. Of all the drug store brands, Maybelline is probably the one range I have least experience with, so in order to cure my curiosity it’s time to see what all the fabulous fuss is about surrounding their Super Stay range. Is it really as ‘Super’ as the name suggests?

Fancy finding out more? Then get yourself comfy & let’s get started….

“Stays comfortable and looks naturally flawless all day. Micro-Flex formula provides 24-hour wear and no transfer. Withstands heat, sweat and humidity. Oil-free, dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free. Suitable for all skin types”

I was lucky enough to acquire a teeny sample tube of this in the shade Light Beige. Much to my amazement, I’ve managed to squeeze 5 applications & there’s still a considerable amount left. Retailing at £8.99 for a standard pump action bottle, it’s pretty much bang on with most of its rival brands such as Rimmel, L’Oreal, Bourgeois etc..
As I’m a gal who prefers full coverage, I’d class this as more of a medium, however the results are pretty flawless & it’s much easier to build upon without it looking cakey & unnatural. It definitely helped mask my imperfections without taking away the natural look from my skin.
As for application it literally glides on and is very easy to blend via sponge, foundation brush or fingers… in fact there’s been virtually no difference in final result of any of these methods, however my personal preference does tend to sit with using the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge – it’s just quick, effortless & leaves a sof airbrushed finish.
As for longevity, it did last a full days wear without looking completely faded, however, if like me you suffer from dry skin foundation does tend to disappear significantly rapidly – especially when out & about in the cold air. Thankfully a good moisturiser prior to application has helped maintain a fresher appearance for longer (I’d highly recommend Nivea Rich Moisture Day Cream, It’s currently working wonders for me)

Final Thoughts:

All in all it didn’t blow my socks off with performance or longevity, having said that it’s a comfortable medium coverage foundation that is great for simple everyday wear.

Maybelline super Stay 24 Hour Concealer Review

“Provides natural-looking coverage that lasts all day. Conceals imperfections, flaws, undereye darkness and circles. 24-hour wear, no transfer. Oil-free, non-comedogenic, dermatologist-tested, ophthalmologist-tested, fragrance-free”

For those who are regular readers of Confetti & Curves, you’ll be only too familiar with my battle for finding the perfect drug store concealer but have I found it with this one?

Unlike a few of the other candidates I’ve tried in the past this one hasn’t resulted in patchiness, cakey-ness or highlighted any under eye wrinkles whatsoever = result!! * Excited Air Punch* However you HAVE to work extremely quickly in order for this to blend. So forget dilly-dallying around drawing little triangles & interesting facial artwork, this is most definitely a ‘one area at a time’ ladies as this stuff clings like wall paper paste once it starts to set. Personally I think it’s best to apply BEFORE foundation to ensure better chances of a seamless blend.

On the plus, it’s been great for covering my red patches, particularly around the chin & directly above the apples of my cheeks. Priced at £6.19 it’s by no means a budget drainer for something that works so well. Standard doe foot applicator, you won’t need to use a huge amount to achieve an impressive level of coverage!

Final Thoughts

All in all it has been the only drug store concealer to tick all of my boxes so far: it’s affordable, covers well, doesn’t showcase the wrinkles & the colour is a great match for my pale skin. Would definitely recommend the spend!

Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick Review

“Stays fresh, light, and comfortable. Super rich color that lasts for 14 hours. Pigments are enveloped in a longwearing system. 20 long wearing shades”

Firstly it’s a well known fact that browny nude shades just ain’t my colour however I was pretty adamant to complete the look with the same brand of lip product. Considering the choice on offer was pretty dismal (3/4 colours – I mean c’mon!!) my instincts drew me towards this soft toffee shade called Beige For Good. Thankfully though when I eventually applied the colour at home it wasn’t anywhere near as disappointing as I feared. Although the colour is significantly a nude shade it did have a soft whisper of pink on my lips in comparison to the original ‘back of the hand’ store swatch. A blatant reminder that colours can significantly change on wearing due to the natural pink tint of lips!

Although the consistency feels incredibly matte there is a very subtle sheen, having said that it’s not awkward to apply and is completely comfortable during wear. However, unless you’re sat bone idle or wear it just before crawling into bed for the night there’s very little chance it’s going to last the endurance of the full 14 hours as claimed. C’mon Maybelline, we’re women – we talk, drink wine, consume chocolate. I’d be so much more happier to buy something that said ‘Guaranteed 3 hours wear’  than it claiming to last a ridiculous duration providing you don’t move a muscle. That being said I did get a good few hours of solid colour before it slowly faded, which isn’t ‘Super’ impressive considering the sales claims.
Another little grumble is the packaging. I’m just not loving it. The white & clear plastic casing is something I’d expect from a teenage focused range. The models in the glamorous Maybelline ad campaigns always seem so chic & sophisticated, yet the packaging for the Super Stay range simply doesn’t translate that same glamour.
However, one thing I reeeeeeally liked about the product was the size of the lipstick body. It’s surprisingly dainty which is a great help for those amongst us with slightly more petite lips (and who want to apply directly from the bullet) as many of the rival brands have a much fuller lippy circumference making application a tad trickier.

Final Thoughts
All in all a nice product that’s easy to apply & comfortable to wear. I just wish there had have been a much better range in store. Although the packaging doesn’t grab my attention, it hasn’t done enough damage to put me off potentially investing in a few more.

Have you tried anything from the Maybelline Super Stay range? What’s your opinion on their collection? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by & say a quick hello.

Wishing ya’ll a fabulous weekend 🙂

    • YES!!! I mean it’s the height of stupidity really! honestly I think they’d get far much more credit if they just kept it realistic lol Thank you so much hui, it looks a heck of a lot better than I thought it would… maybe it’s time to try out a few more nude shades 😉 hehe Hope you’re having a fab weekend lovely lady XXXXX

  1. Hi Karen, love to see another range of super stay collection from Maybelline New York and to be honest, I have never tried this range but yet, the results looks impressive on you but as you said, the packaging doesn’t sound interesting at all meanwhile comparing to the quality of the product though.

    • Hello lovely 🙂 Absolutely spot on – agree with you 100%. Love the overall finish but quite disappointed with the packaging! Considering this isn’t the most budget of products too you’d think they’d put a little more effort in. I’m personally a fan of the Sleek Cosmetics packaging… something a little more classy like that would have been so much more appealing!
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend huni, great to get a little chatter with you 🙂 XXXX

  3. Your final result is amazing hun, you look gorgeous ❤
I am not a huge fan of a stick (did try a few, but they all failed) and I do love Maybelline a lot, so I really need to go out and buy some for me to try 😉
    Awesome post hun 😀

  4. You are so gorgeous, Karen! Did you find these products were hard to wash off your face? I have found long wear products to be hard to fully remove in the past. Also, your eye brows look literally perfect! I don’t know if you have in the past, but you should post a tutorial!

    • *blushing* Awwwh gee Cyndel, what a compliment!! Thank you so much huni ❤ Honestly I didn't find these hard at all to remove but I have been using my Olay facial scrub which is pretty darn good at shifting all sorts & is so affordable too. I reckon the formula of the products would be a little stubborn to remove with just make-up wipes so maybe a good micellar water or face wash is the better option!
The brows?! Ooh what a fun tutorial to do… though I'm not in any way an expert, it's just a little Barry M kit – cheap and cheerful but I love it so much! 😀 Actually works better than my Soap & Glory Brow pencil (& it's over twice the price) Will defo do a little run through of what I do sometime soon 🙂 Thank you for lavishing me with so many compliments – what a start to my Monday morning Cyndel 😀 hehe Hope you have a great week ahead chum XXXXXXX
