Behind The Blog…. featuring Hayley from The Glasgow Girl

The Glasgow Girl

Well hello again you beautiful bunch…

Another day, another Behind The Blog! Is that the sound of joyful cheering I hear? I sure hope so gals 😉 For today I’m joined by one of the loveliest ladies I’ve had the pleasure of meeting on my blogging journey… Hayley from The Glasgow Girl.

I’ve been following Hayley’s pristine and beautifully presented little corner of the interweb for quite some time now and have to say she never fails to captivate me with her creative content, stashes of gorgeous goodies and beauty buys that only ever expand my exhaustive wish list.

If you’re obsessed with makeup, fashion & sassy accessories then The Glasgow Girl is the place to be. You’ll also be sure of a warm welcome as Hayley is one of those cheery blog buddies you feel you’ve known for years… or at least shared a few glasses of vino with on more than one occasion 😀 So without further ado here’s the glamorous gal herself to tell you a little bit more about the girl Behind The Blog…

Hayley

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Makeup, fashion, and all things pink! (ah I know this is 6 words!).

.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Over the last two years I have loved reading blogs, watching YouTube makeup tutorials and haul videos – and after much hesitation my wonderful husband encouraged me to put myself out there and start my own blog! The Glasgow Girl was born on October 2014…and I have never looked back!

 .

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

The Glasgow Girl…it might seem odd but I have heard people in work and in London say “Hayley…you know, that girl from Glasgow?” and it just stuck in my head, really!

 .

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Yes, I really do! Especially when I first started my blog, I didn’t really know WHERE to start, if that makes sense. I find that now  when I have a burst of inspiration I write down all my post ideas so that when I do have writer’s block I have a list that I can look at and draw inspiration from!

 .

What’s your favourite post to date?

Even though it is not about makeup or fashion, I love my “Friday Feelings | How to Feel More Confident” post. I received the most positive feedback from it, it took a lot to share that part of myself and how insecure I can be at times…and it just meant a lot to me that it was so well received.

 .

Describe your everyday clothes style:

I am a HUGE fan of layering and accessories! You will mostly see me wearing black skinny jeans with a huge chunky knit jumper or blouse, chunky platform boots, then finishing it off with a statement necklace or blanket scarf! That is pretty much my everyday look at the moment!

.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Only 3?! Ok…I can do this! I would have to say my L’Oreal True Match Foundation, NARS Laguna Bronzer and a red lipstick (Rimmel Kate Moss 107 lipstick or MAC Russian Red I would have to go for, but I can’t possibly choose!).

.

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

I find that my work can be very stressful and demanding at times, so I love to come home and get in my comfiest pyjamas and slipper socks, light my favourite candle and read a book with a cup of tea and Toast and Nutella….yum!

 .

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

My ideal Saturday night…I am quite a boring person actually so I love nothing more than ordering a takeaway with the husband, and curling up on the couch with a good movie!

 .

What do you do to relax?

Take a nice warm bath, light some candles, and either read or watch some ‘guilty-pleasure’, trash TV…we all do it!

.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

I bite my nails…it is an AWFUL habit that I have had since I was little and I just wish I could leave them alone and let them grow!

 .

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

I can’t single out just one, but every Christmas with my family. I have such a close family, and they just make every Christmas the best ever. As a child, it was just magical. My brother and I just had the best time, and we have Christmas traditions that we still up-hold to this day!

 .

What was your favourite school subject?

Music! I LOVED music and singing and playing the guitar!

 .

What’s your dream job?

I would love to work in a hospital laboratory, doing research and medical diagnostics, helping people. If I am helping people then I know that no matter what I am doing, I will be happy and consider it my dream job!

 .

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years time I would love to see myself back in Glasgow with my husband and family, finished my PhD and hopefully in our own house thinking of starting a family!

 .

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

1) To travel – especially to New York and Hawaii.

2) Own a designer bag (Louis Vuitton!).

3) Have a job I love, hopefully helping people.

4) To write a book (maybe one day!).

5) To start a family with my husband.

 .

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date would definitely be getting a First Class Honours in my Immunology degree from the University of Glasgow, and obtaining a PhD position at Imperial College London. It was such a hard time and incredibly stressful, and a lot happened in those 5 years but I came out in the end better for it!

 .

Who inspires you?

My Mum and Gran are the two most inspirational women in my life. They are my best friends, and I look up to them both so much in all aspects of life.

 .

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever” (Mahatma Gandhi).

 .

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

I would say go for it! Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there – I am so incredibly happy that I started my blog and discovered incredible bloggers who are so supportive, nice and amazing writers (like Karen!). I have no regrets and have never looked back, and you won’t either!
