Buying A Beauty Box?

Buying a beauty box

Hey Beauty Buddies

I don’t know about you, but finding nooks, crannies, gadgets and bags to store all beauty bits in is always a challenge for me as I seem to be consistently outgrowing whatever little cosmetic carriers I invest in. Makeup bags are great but I’ve noticed that a lot of them are of limited size and can often get battered, bruised and zip torn. Determined to find something a little sturdier to stash my beauty belongings in, my ever empathic hubby thought I’d benefit from a Beauty Box. Let’s see if his creative spending holds up to the idea….

.

The Beauty Box

 beauty box

Made of sturdy aluminium this sizeable cosmetic carrier was bought from www.beauty-boxes.com. If you haven’t visited the site yet, it’s an online store selling a range of high quality beauty boxes, trolley’s, cases, makeup brushes & accessories… and when I say high quality, I really do mean it. Comparing this box to a few smaller similar styles I’ve had in past years it’s pretty much leagues ahead in the reliability stakes.

 .

Who’s it for?

Ideally, this would be the perfect beginners case for a budding MUA, a professional that carries a limited amount of beauty/hair products or someone who travels considerably and wants to keep their lotions and potions safe from being unnecessarily battered in transit. Admittedly I’m not any of those three but it does make a great case if you like to keep a select amount of regular use items in the one handy dandy place!

.

The Opposition?

 DSC00350

Okay, so here’s the current opposition… my pretty little Ikea cosmetic bag that I adore in every shape, way and fashion. It’s strong, has a metal frame that stays open when you’re vigourisly plundering through the contents. Has a zip that’s tough as nails, is under £5 (or somewhere around that region) and *most importantly* it’s the most gorgeous shade of raspberry. Yes, that’s right ladies – not pink, raspberry 😉 If you wanna take a trip down memory lane and check out a 2014 post of me rambling about it in all it’s glory just *click here* to be digitally redirected!

One of the reasons I l-o-v-e this makeup bag is simply because of the ability to contain everything in one roomy place and (unlike other bags I’ve used in the past) doesn’t faint into a pathetic mass of material on opening. I’ll admit, I had my doubts before transferring everything over to the Beauty Box if it would all fit, but ever the optimist I kept hopefull it wouldn’t end in a finger pointing rage of fury at the chubbiness of my Clinique Chubby Stick or saucer sized Rimmel Sun Shimmer compact. After all beauty comes in all shapes and sizes… isn’t that right ladies? 😉

Lets Talk Organisation…

DSC00360

Setting everything out before my very eyes put into context the vastness of products my make-up bag has been hoarding. This of course was the perfect opportunity for a damn good clear out & wipe down (hence the baby wipes)

 DSC00352

Everything slotted neatly into place and looked great once it was finished. One handy little advantage of the beauty box is that it eliminates the mass of mess that often accumulates at the bottom of a makeup bag as everything is divided into small compartments which saves times rummaging around for the smaller items such as liquid liner or stubby little lip pencils. One glance and you know where it’s at. However a slight drawback is that the compartments aren’t overly big and they can’t be altered to fit, which in my humble opinion is a much overlooked design drawback. The top row of smaller individual ones may be ideal for tipping a mass of bobby pins into on a whim, but area is limited for lippies and most certainly larger glosses; and with me being a gloss-hoarder it won’t be long before I’m reaching maximum capacity with this lot (and to be fair my stash doesn’t exactly rival that of Carli Bybel) just *click here* to check out her video & you’ll understand why this gal needs an entire room to house her obsession with make-up!!

.

Overall Verdict:

All in all the Beauty Box is a great way to organise a small collection of beauty essentials especially if your collection isn’t overly extensive or if you’re on the road and need a sturdy little companion to travel along with. Okay, the compartments aren’t huge but there are other shapes and sizes available if you do decide to upgrade to something a little roomier. Alternatively you could just buy a portable pink potting shed and be done with the hassle of finding extra space, genius huh?

For me this cute little case means no more messy makeup bag, no digging through masses of powder dusted mascara tubes or crumbling eyeshadow palettes… just mess free makeup at a glance!

Do you have a beauty box or is it something you’re thinking of investing in? What’s your favourite makeup storage solution? Whatever your thoughts I’d love to read them in the comments below so do stop by and say a quick hello!

  1. I have over 3 large make up bags (addicted much🙈). I have a 3 storey beauty trolley but that’s all filled with my beauty therapy products. I think I need a chest of drawers for all my make up! Xx

    • Oh my gosh that’s a heck of a lot of stuff you have!!!! I’m surprised you haven’t got down the Carli Bybel route and dedicated an entire room to the stuff lol I’m not quite there………… yet 😉 haha XX

  2. I love the idea of storing your makeup like that, but I do agree they should have made the compartements adjustable in size.
My make-up is in little jars and mini drawers at the moment, a bit of a mess. I have been eyeing those pretty acrylic Muji drawers, but it will have to wait till my next trip to the UK.

    • They really should have Anne, it would have been ideal then as it’s hard fitting glosses etc in *sigh* I think I need a trip to Ikea soon as they usually have great storage ideas for very reasonable money 🙂 Oh the Muji drawers are gorgeous!!! I’d be sorely tempted to indulge in a few of those myself Anne ❤ XXXX

  3. I have a beauty box I got it from a makeup store and it’s the best thing I’ve ever invested in! They can be quite expensive but I think they’re worth it I’m actually loosing space in my one now and should probably think of getting another but I love it! I have a giraffe pattern on mine 🙂 xx

    • Understandable Dasha, I guess everyone has their preferences – I have limited room too and not sure how much longer this will last so I might transfer nail polishes into it & invest in some little drawers instead 🙂 x

  4. I keep all of my makeup in this small wire container. I stack my palettes according to size and keep all of my small things in 3 separate cosmetic bags. It’s easy enough to grab and go and keep out of reach of my kid, which is most important haha!

  5. I really like these, I got one a long long time ago I really wanted it in pink like yours but I had to have mine in silver because it sold out 😦 hah I never really use it much now it’s stuck behind my bed I think it’s because I like my make up to be separated in draws for quickness (makes me sound lazy). Might have to have a snoop and see if I can fit my things in there, maybe nail varnishes I have lots of those and never know where to keep them 🙂 x x

    • Hey Millie! Shame it sold out in pink, it really is a lovely colour although I personally like the silver just as much!! I think the drawer idea is much more handier, especially if you have a lot of cosmetic products – like you say it just makes is so much easier to grab and go 🙂 I think I’ll end up putting my nail varnish collection in mine too as I doubt it will last much longer if I keep treating myself to the occassional lippy lol X

  6. Ooooh, I like those beauty boxes! You have quite a lovely makeup collection. Mines just thrown on the floor. Isn’t that a good place for the products? (The floor is the biggest shelf) keeping them in cute little boxes is a great way to keep everything organized (which I’m not, but I’m working on it :)) what a wonderful post Karen! Xoxo 😀

    • I’ve literally just tried the mascara Kayla… oh my word it really is fantastic!!! I’d love a dressing table – lucky gal 😀 Think I’ll have to have a little trip to Ikea and check out some of their drawer systems – they usually have quite good little storage solutions Xx

  7. It really is like a makeup toolbox, ha! I used to have one of those, but my beauty collection has long since spilled over into a multitude of baskets, shelves, trays, bags and even a carousel-type thing on my bathroom counter. My god, I’m out of control…

  8. I need this beauty box in my life! First off, I need to go through all of my makeup and get rid of a lot! I don’t think everything would fit inside of a beauty box it’s that bad lol. This post has made me want to get a beauty box now though. It will also give me a good reason to go through what I have and get rid of makeup that’s older or that I just don’t use. Right now I have a behind the door closet organizer hanging up with a lot of my makeup, then I have some in my makeup bag and little bits everywhere around the room haha! Thanks for sharing this wonderful post Karen! ❤ XXXXX

    • So glad you like it huni 😀 That is a wonderful idea going through your makeup and having a good sort out!! I’ve seen a few bloggers having blog sales recently which may be another idea to make some room & money lol Honestly I think you’d love this case for travelling with the essentials – it’s really roomy for that, which could be good for you travelling back to Michigan for a break. I really do like it although as a permanent container I don’t think it’s going to last me too much longer lol Thanks for the lovely comment as always Katie – hope you manage to sort out your makeup bits n pieces 😀 X

      • I really like it Karen! I think I will get myself one when I am able to. I have seen some bloggers have blog sales too. Though It’s hard to part with some things. I feel like somehow I am going to need something even though I never use it lol. Yeah it’s always hard to choose what to bring when traveling. This would be perfect for that but I also would love to just have it for at home. 🙂 X

  10. The way that went from messy to organized made me drool haha! The perfectionist in me loved the final result! Personally, it would be took bulky to have a giant box like that–especially since I move back and forth a lot from my house to my hometown.

    • Haaaaa you sound so much like me Romy, disorganisation is something that annoys me so much in my little stash lol It is quite a bulky box, so it definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea huni! Very understandable 🙂 X
