Behind The Blog… featuring Lisa from Cuppa Sunshine & Sugar

Cuppa Sunshine and Sugar

Hey Beauty Buddies…

Hope you’re all keeping well & surviving enjoying the week so far?! I’ve been having a huge Spring Clean around the house by bagging things for local charity shops and also adding to a monumental mountain of trash. Is it just me, or is there something completely liberating about having a maahoosive de-clutter? The freedom of opening my kitchen drawers without a landslide of junk spilling out (almost) moves me to tears! As for Emma’s room, who knew a 9 year old could hoard such vast amounts of EVERYTHING?! She’s got a collection of Barbie shoes that would put Jimmy Choo’s entire collection to shame… 2 hours alone wading through a toy chest of dolls, dried up felt tip pens and missing jigsaw pieces *face palm* Thankfully calmness has been restored and we’ve topped up the storeroom of the local charity shop for the entire season!

However this morning it’s back to virtual reality as I present you all with another fun-filled Behind The Blog. You know the drill by now ladies: kettle on, feet up & bum nestled into the nearest comfy chair 😉

As always, if you’re new to Confetti & Curves *friendly wave* and not entirely sure what Behind The Blog is all about *click here* to bring yourself up to speed – you may even find yourself getting involved! And why not?

So who’s perched on our digital hot-seat this morning? Well,  it’s none other than the incredibly witty, stylish and sassy super-mama Lisa from Cuppa Sunshine & Sugar. Lisa really is a little ray of sunshine that burst onto my blog-radar late 2014 and since then I’ve been hooked on reading her positive & humorous posts that never fail to ignite a huge smile. Even her ‘About’ page makes you feel like you’re catching up with a life-long chum. If you haven’t already checked out her cosy little corner of the interweb make sure to get yourself over and say hi, she really is a blogging treasure!

Anyways enough from me, here’s the lovely lady herself…

Lisa Cuppa Sunshine and Sugar

In only 5 words describe what readers can expect from your blog:

Humor, Positivity, Family, Food, Fun

What inspired you to start blogging?

Long answer:  I have always LOVED writing and connecting with people through it.  While the world increasingly floods us with negative and disheartening media…I was feeling the push to put something positive out there.  To blog was an idea that had been sitting in the back of my mind for so long and I wasn’t brave enough to take on.  Until recently, I wasn’t ready to put myself out there to be received or to not be.  After much encouragement from those dear to me… I just went for it.

Short answer:  I’m a self-proclaimed word nerd that loves a good chuckle.

Tell us about your blog name… what made you decide on it?

So I gotta break it down because it’s kind of a mish mash of a lot of meanings really.  It was created in a collaborative effort with my Mr. Man.  He’s the best!

Cuppa:  My Dad and Grandmother’s side of the family is from England where the term “cuppa” is so often used.  It has become a frequent phrase among family and friends for me.  Want a cuppa tea or a cuppa coffee or??…they all are delicious and ooze positive feelings, especially at the start of the day but really any time of day.

Sunshine:  Forever I have sung “You Are My Sunshine” to my littles and let’s face it…sunshine in general fills us up with happy feelings and feel good attitudes which just adds a little pep to our step!

& Sugar:  I.LOVE.SUGAR. There are only positive feelings when I see it, smell it and devour it.  Period.  Plus, it has been my lifelong nickname from my Dad.  Awww, right?  Yeah it’s sweet, cute and slightly embarrassing if he tags on “booger” in front of my friends as a teenager.  Yep. Sugar Booger.  Needless to say…he is a huge source of humor for me! xoxo

Do you ever suffer from Blogger’s Block & if so how do you overcome it?

Not yet.  I have found myself worried that it must be coming.  So, I plan ahead.  Every time I have an idea or thought of something I’d like to write about or share, I jot it down on paper that is organized by categories.  Once on paper, it calms my mind rather than trying to remember all of my ideas in a jumbled mess.  Jumbled mind messes overwhelm and stress me out.  I also try hard to find balance in my posting frequency.  Post enough to keep it fresh, but not too much that it becomes “too much”.  At the moment I am on somewhat of a schedule so that my dedicated readers know what they can expect from me.  Friday Funnies, Sunday Scoops, Weekly Whims (Tuesdays) with the occasional one-off for say a special announcement and/or an AWARD acceptance…whoop whoop!  It is my hope that by keeping a frequency balance I will prevent reader and writer burnout, but still keep my blog active and fresh.  I am of course new to this so I have resolved to just tweak it as I go, as needed.

What’s your favourite post to date?

Shooting for Mom of The Year—then he got the toilet brush!

Describe your everyday clothes style:

Jeans, Blouse or Sweater, Uggs or tall leather riding-style boots and usually a scarf.

Pretty simplistic on jewelry.  Just wedding ring, favorite Michael Kors or Baby-G watch, white gold hoop earrings-but sometimes fun dangle style, and my Vintage Pearl necklace with personalized tags.  Sometimes I throw on a fun beaded necklace if I forego the scarf.  I love the look of large handbags and have many stashed away, but while toting around a diaper bag I usually just use a cute clutch/wristlet that easily fits in the diaper bag or a cross-body medium size purse.

What are your current top 3 beauty items?

Eyebrow pencil.  Foundation.  Lip gloss.  (If you will allow a 4th for my favorite hair product it would be BioSilk Silk Therapy…one of my LOVES for 10+ years)

How do you like to relax & unwind after a stressful day?

Comfy pj’s then a good giggle and snuggle with my family.  Also a couple of slices of Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese helps too.  What?  Yep cheese.

Describe your ideal Saturday night:

Take-out and chillaxing at home with my crew.  For a date night though…me and The Hub like dinner, shopping and a movie.  Girly Night with my group of girlfriends is always a rocking good time too.

What do you do to relax?

Skydive.  Just kidding.  Ziplining is as close as I will ever get to soaring through the skies.

To relax it depends on my mood.  I like to read, watch TV, blog, shop, sew, craft, bake and hang out with friends and family.

Everyone has their bad habits, what’s yours?

Staying up too late.  I regret it every single freaking morning.

What’s your most cherished childhood memory?

Oh geez.  That’s hard.  There are so many.  Probably camping and boating with my family.  I always loved when we would wake up early, jump in the boat to dash across the lake to the marina for breakfast and giant popsicles.  My first time fishing…I was about 9 years old.  My dad was a smoker then and every single time he would light up I would yell “fish on!” and he would have to put out the cig to “handle” my fish.  This went on for about 20 or so fish in a row and my dad was a grumpy smoker that wasted a bunch that day.  Hahaha!  Oh and the best part of that scene was my Grandpa standing in the middle of the 16’ boat holding a very large patio umbrella up to shade us all.  That umbrella was huge, looked ridiculous and was perfectly imperfect.  J

What was your favourite school subject?

Crap.  Well it most definitely was NOT math.  We’ll go with Language Arts and Social Studies for a tie.

What’s your dream job?

Saturday Night Live cast member would be awesome.  Although, successful mom, wife and blogger is super great too.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I am never where I thought l would be when I look back, but I am always blessed with where the years take me.  So I guess the most honest answer is…I have no idea, but I can’t wait to find out.

What top 5 things are on your bucket list?

1) Travel Europe (then see as much of the world as possible).

2) Get my Black Belt in Taekwondo (Brown belt now…one more to go then BLACK!)

3) Go ziplining in various places around the world.

4) Attend our kids’ college graduations.

5) Be a Nana (Grandma). “Love ‘em to pieces, sugar load them and then send them home!” will be my motto.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

Raising my children.  Every single day feels like a new achievement in preparing them for their lives outside of the nest as independent, respectable, humble, contributing members of society.  So I say that aint so shabby! << insert Southern drawl from my roots!

Who inspires you?

My Mom.  All of the minutes of every day.

Do you have a favourite inspirational quote?

“Be kind to others, not because they are nice but because you are.”

What top tips would you give to someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Just go for it.  It’s hella scary to jump two feet first and put yourself out there, but at the end of the day if you follow your heart and put the real genuine you into your material you will be unique and there will be an audience for you.  The planet has enough people for that.  You can do it!

  2. Organized chaos is as good as it gets at my house. De-cluttering, purging the the toys and outgrown clothes is a must at least twice to three times a year. I totally have some drawers like that Karen. Hahaha!

    • Honestly Lisa… I thought I WAS bad until I tackled Emma’s room. WOW, nine year olds can’t half hoard some stuff lol Needless to say it’s looking awesome… I give it to the weekend before I’m trampling on lego and barbie accessories once again *rolls eyes* Glad I’m not the only one with drawers that virtually attack on opening haha 😀 Xo xo

Karen… Cleaning and organizing the chaos is hard but I love the after feeling. That great feeling after a good clean, when you feel that the house is lighter, lol.
