Time to sit back, relax and discover how you can organise your upcoming wardrobe essentials…

Wardrobe Update

With the changing of the season comes the need to update our capsule closet must have’s. Yes, you’ve read it right, so let’s take these simple steps on how update your wardrobe this season:

Step # 1. Take an assessment of your existing wardrobe

Nope. I’m definitely not talking about school assessment. But the very first thing to do before updating your wardrobe is to assess the clothes that you already have. You might have one or two pieces on your closet that you’ve completely forgotten. Believe me, assessing your wardrobe might be a little tiring on your part but it’s so worth the effort.

Another thing about assessing your closet is you’ll have a time to reorganize your clothes!! This can also help determine what colours you need to update your winter wardrobe or what fashion failures you’ve stashed away at the back!

Step # 2. Mix and match

A single piece of clothing can be a lieutenant to an army of fashionable outfits. The best example for this is a simple white top.

For instance, a simple white top can be fabulous by adding a chunky cardigan.

Or pair it with some jeans for a more casual look. And for a business-casual ensemble, take it up a notch by adding a coat and blazer.

You can also pair your white tee with a pencil skirt for an office look.

Or, wear it with some leggings for a funky street style.

There is absolutely NO fashion limit for a white tee.

Step # 3. Create your own personal look book

Take some photos of your new outfits to keep track of your clothes. Not to mention, taking pictures of your outfits can help you figure out which ones can be paired to create different ensembles. Plus, you can experiment with your picture perfect angle.

Step # 4. Add a belt

You might haven’t realized it yet but a great belt can be a thin line between dull and fab. So it makes total sense to buy a good quality belt this season such as this one…

Step # 5. Statement Accessory

What’s nice about statement accessories is that it can work well with casual jeans, and they can give an oomph to your office outfits too!

Step # 6. Patterns

Never be afraid to wear patterns this season

Step # 7. Leggings under dresses and skirts

Add a more playful feel to your dresses and skirts by wearing leggings underneath… it’s also a great way to stay cosy on those chilly days!

Step # 8. Add a vest

A faux fur vest adds sophistication to any of your outfits by giving that sassy rock-chick look.

Step # 9. Add a blazer

Blazers are by far one of the most versatile pieces you can ever own. They’re casual-, cocktail-, work-, school-, and date-friendly.

Step # 10. Sweater

Aside from sweaters being perfect for these cooler months, another reason I love sweaters is because they can be paired with skirts, shorts, pants —  whatever!

  1. Such a great post Karen! I know that I am going to have to really assess my clothing when it comes time to make the big move! I am afraid I have TOO many clothes! Any tips you could offer a clothing hoarder would be greatly appreciated lol. I am thinking it’s going to have to be a project that I will have to get started on soon! 🙂 xo

    • Thank you so much Katie 🙂 Sounds like you have the complete opposite problem to me – I always complain I have far too little and tend to spend my year living in my staple basics lol I’d say get all the items you don’t need rounded up and sell them on E-bay as a bundle!! A friend of mine cleared out her wardrobe and ended up ditching 7 tops and 4 pairs of trousers… she managed to get almost £100, which I thought was pretty darn good!! 😉 Happy organising chum Xo

      • Yeah I was thinking I should sell the items that I don’t want and could really make a lot of money that way because I would be getting rid of more than your friend lol. In the past, I would give my old clothes to friends but those were my “skinny” clothes that I hung onto forever lol. I would really like to lighten the load before we move but then again I have a friend who might benefit from my clothes after we move back to Michigan. It’s not that I don’t like the clothes myself I just have too many and need to stop buying clothes lol. I have clothes I haven’t even worn yet haha. So I will have to think of what I want to do with them soon. 🙂 Xo

      • Oooh decisions decisions miss Katie!! Well, I guess you could split it onto 2 piles – sell and save. That way you could make a few extra dollars and of course your friend could benefit from a few nice items! Just a thought but good luck on having your clear out… I’m sure once you get it sorted you’ll feel a great achievement chum hehe 😀 Oh, and of course go easy on the clothes spend thereafter!!! lol XXX

  4. Loved this Karen! I’ve been in the process of slowly clearing out my closet to make room for new pieces. My rack is shrinking and my sister’s closet is bulging! Every time I go back home, I have a carry-on full of goodies. It’s nice for her, but it’s also nice for me since I feel so…clean! I can’t wait to start shopping for new clothes.

    • What a lucky daughter you have Shirl 🙂 I’d love to say I had a full closet of clothes to sort through but I seem to be collecting less and less over this last year – I think my appreciation for bargains has diminished slightly! lol Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂 X

  5. I really need to do this. I always find it so hard to match an outfit together just because my clothes is a disaster zone. I’m hoping once I have sometime for a little spring cleaning I can declutter and remove some clothing and add more updated fashion into my wardrobe. Love this post!

  6. Such a super post! I am all about staple pieces myself that are versatile and go with most anything. I realized I was essentially wasting my money on ‘trendy’ items!

    • Thanks so much for dropping by huni 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! I agree, a select range of staple items is much healthier than a wardrobe full of threads you’ll potentially never wear again! I’ve discovered that this year after clearing out my closet and coming across so many sale items I bought and never wore!!! Such a waste *grrr* X
